Does GW2 have the content to keep a large player base?

That’s not what I said. I said, a lot of people are enjoying the game. If your feedback is you don’t like it that’s fine, but it’s not exactly actionable. You’re allowed to have your opinion. Mine is that I’m having fun, I’ve gotten my $60 worth and I’m not at end-game yet.

Just wait till you are. The closer you get to 80 the less fun the game gets.

GW2 is about having fun while you’re playing

And a lot of players are lacking exactly that.

Fortunately for GW2…the game was never designed to be a heavy PVE focused game so its a minor cost well worth having something different in terms of classes.

The majority of content in GW2 is PvE so I have no idea what you are talking about.

A glass cannon got one-shot by a glass cannon.

This, and more shocking revelations at eleven.

Basically this.
Also, people NEED to understand the concept of the conquest (TEAM) pvp mode:

  • The only things that are imbalanced are the ones that give an “unfair” advantage your whole team .
  • His cheesy glasscannon build is about 1shotting somebody then basically having CD on all his utilities.
  • He has won his team 5 points. They won’t win the game because of that so it is not imbalanced.

The end. In the actual tournaments, you see builds like this happen rarely ever because they just aren’t that benefical for the whole team.

Except of course when the enemy team consists out of 3 backstab thieves who each instant kill an enemy. And even thieves on cooldown can manage a 5vs2.

When you read comments of the youtube video of that backstab build you will see that some of the kills shown come from tournaments.

I like pve as it is, don’t want to bother with team strategy or group composition, instead of spending an hour coordinating and changing builds I can join an event and have fun with random people right away.

Good luck having “fun with random people” when doing Balthazar. And I also don’t think you will consider Shatterer & Co much fun.

Hidden Pistol is great on an engineer. Just see it as a more offensive Rocket boots with more damage on its toolbelt skill but without stunbreak on its utility (which on the other hand doesn’t knock you down).

Want balanced PvP? Either give other classes equally threatening combos or town down the thief.

Other classes should have equally threatening combos, I think that would really spice the PvP scene up quite a bit actually!

Imo that would ruin the PvP scene as every fight would last at most 1 second and the deciding winning factor would be who sees the other first as no one could defend against against the others instant kill combo.

And thus the Thief has to be brought down instead of elevating everyone else to its deadliness.

As for the whole “avoid in 0.2 seconds” remark, I’m curious if you think all players should have a charge-up animation similar to NPC mobs so that you have time to contemplate where you want to dodge, because as it stands now you pretty much have 0.2 seconds to dodge any attack most of the time as well. Every player attack in the game can be dodged to my knowledge… this means you can dodge Steal, you can dodge Cloak & Dagger, you can dodge Backstab, you can dodge Heartseeker, etc etc. When Basilisk Venom is activated, it’s applied to the next offensive action performed by the thief and only lasts for 30 seconds or one action, so if you dodge it…. guess what? It’s gone now. :-\

All fine and when you have a high noon showdown with a Thief and know that he will attack NOW. But as soon as you don’t see a thief he can instant kill you with no defense barring the stun break of basilisk venom.
Should every class do the same? Every class should be as dangerous as everyone else. But currently hardly anyone fears a class so much as a thief because only thieves have an instant kill combo.

Want balanced PvP? Either give other classes equally threatening combos or town down the thief.

Yeah, because we’re all so bloated of ego that we blow all our utility skills just to GET to you and backstab you, never once thinking we might need to escape if things don’t go according to plan.

Good argument.

What has that to do with what he said?
And in PvP a thief will blow his abilities to backstab someone. Maybe its you, maybe its someone else, but he will instant kill someone.

Also its not as if the thief lacks escape mechanisms.

You forget the people who are simply bored by the content, in PvE for example the bosses who are just incredible HP sacks with unblockable instant kill moves. The only strategy usable there is corps zerging.
Or the whole design of late game zones which 1 mob every 10 feet and ridiculous respawn rate.

In my opinion, you were outplayed and haven’t realized how to counter this particular attack yet.

Before Mondays patch there was no counter to this as Basilisk Venom couldn’t be broken. Now you have a split second to hit your stun break before the thief lands backstab, otherwise you are dead.
Sounds balanced.

Well considering how commonplace backstab thieves are, it shouldn’t be too much trouble to move your finger to your condition cleanse hotkey when you see a thief approaching, huh?

So where are the other classes “instant kill enemy unless he uses one specific ability within 0.2 seconds” combos?
And of course every class has as many stun breaks as there are thieves in PvP. When a class forces you to have a dead ability which you can’t use because it must always be ready to counter an instant kill combo it is a good sign that this combo is OP.

Overall I don’t mind that they can do crazy amounts of damage so quickly but the fact they are stealthed the entire time on top of it just doesn’t seem balanced really.

Yes that is not balanced BUT it also should not be possible.

Thieves stealth lasts only 2-4 seconds and break on first hit they do and they cannot stealth again for 3 seconds after. Only shadow refugee is a bit longer but the thief is trapped in that aoe circle during that.

That is how it is supposed to work.

If that perma-stealth thing is happening, problem is something else than mechanics and should be fixed to work as intended.

I have read in some topic, I think it was of the Thief board, that sometimes stealth lasts a lot longer because of rendering lag.

1. Don’t allow transfers to a server that your present server is currently at war with.

That won’t help when people switch so they just get the bonus and easy access to PoIs. They simply take a different server which is good in WvWvW. Its not that the current ranking is a secret and can’t be found on the web.

The monster AI is really strange. Sometimes they beeline me (quite often actually) and I can run them around in circles while the other players take them down without risk while other times I get completely ignored.

Just yesterday I attacked a monster close to a waypoint. The monster aggroed me and came towards me like normal while I got it down to 50% health. Then it reached my but instead of starting to melee it actually went directly through me and attacked a player which was standing some distance away at the waypoint. The player was AFK and has not done anything to the mob nor was he buffing even passively.

I think each monster has a list of which classes to attack first. Engis are often near the top but some classes are higher.

Just wondering if people noticed if, while transfers are still free, the servers which perform good in WvWvW and thus receive a bonus and have easier access to PoIs in the Mist have a much higher population than the ones which are bads as people change to those servers.

Can you please tell me the warrior spec which allows you to 3 hit pretty much every enemy no matter his spec with no chance to defend himself actively?

The end game PVP is a joke. World vs World sucks and there are no rewards. OF course people will leave for the superior game that has proven end game content. AT LEAST THERE ARE REWARDS!

Playing for rewards just means you were conditioned by previous games to perform X and recieve Y. It’s very difficult to reprogram your brain. In the old days people played game for FUN. Imagine that.

Because the dungeons are so much fun…

There are reasons that no one else has made a dynamic world with scalable events before at least on the kind of scale that GW2 does it! And if it takes a bit of time to get it to work optimally, then its well worth it.

Dynamic Events? Really? Such events have already been seen in Warhammer (Open Quests). And I fail to see how GW2 Events or Event bosses like Shatterer are more dynamic that the events in Rift.

Game that’s almost a decade old (WoW released Nov 2004) is bound to have more end-game content than one released a month ago.

What exactly do people expect?

If you want to reduce it to End Game content, TOR has more end game content, heck Mists of Pandaria alone has more end game content.

The problem is not the that there is to few end game content, its the whole design of how ANet wants end game to be which has issues.
Just ask yourself if 3 more dungeons designed the same way as the current ones would make the game better.

I love reading peoples opinion, but thats all it is..
Sure the game needs fixing up in places, same for lots of games, and these things get fixed in time. Games these days, especially mmo’s are constant works in progress

Which is sadly always used as excuse to release it half working. What most companies overlook is that many people are not willing to wait till the progress reaches a point where the game could actually be considered bug free for 99% of the players. The only advantage GW2 has here is that no monthly costs mean that players are a bit more willing to wait.

For that it has quite a lot of PvE content.
8 Dungeons, loads of overworld areas, quests and PvE Events. And when you deliver content than this content has to work and be of quality.

Arguing that you are not supposed to access the majority of content the game gives you is just stupid.

First up I really thinkt that this game is as good as any mmorpg can get at release,
and Ixal, you sould at least get your facts right, MOP´s launch was announced AFTER
GW2 launch was announced

Because companies never have their own estimates on when a competitor will likely release their product which will completely trash you product on the market.

The longer ANet would have waited, the higher would have been the chance that MoP would have been released first which would have had a huge impact on the sales.

Also, it is quite interesting that you define a non functional auction house and loads of bugged events as " as good as any mmorpg can get at release"

Some people seem to think the process of fixing a bug is changing a single line of code.

I work in the software industry. In many cases it is.
But then, I don’t work in the games industry so we can’t deliver code as unfinished as how many games are released.

This is mostly completely opinion, not “cracks”. And bugs are being fixed. Nothing to read here.

So it is “opinion” that many Events, after several attempts to fix them, do still not work, that the balance in dungeons and story instances is “strange” or that many abilities of certain classes are unusable?

A lot of cracks begin to show now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ixal.7924

Ixal.7924

So after playing and reaching a higher level a lot of problems begin to show with the game.

That starts with general PvE design with too high respawn rates even when no player is present and general mob density where you aggro 3 other mobs as soon as you dare to move (remember, the combat system is designed for mobility).
Bugs are frequent, either by having events bug out and at worst contesting a waypoint for days or classes where a lot of traits and abilities are simply bugged.

And if they are not bugged, they are not balanced. In the worst case a quarter of your class skills are simply weak (Engi turret skills for examples) and very often the elite skill you saved your skill points for is horrible (mortar). Racial skills are all around lackluster, although that is by design.
And it is not only the classes that have balance issues its also the content. “Trash” mobs are frequently more difficult than bosses, boss design is generally lackluster (Shatterer for example) and the rewards do not justify the effort in most cases. And the difficulty of personal story quests are all over the place ranging from cakewalk to horrible zerg of death, especially for elementalist or other non plate wearing classes.

And this are just the major problems. There are a lot of minor ones too like the Charr armor.

But the real issue here is that at least I haven’t much confidence in ANet to fix this issues any time soon. Many of those problems come from bad design and not bugs which means they won’t be changed or only after a very long process. And when you look at the patch notes they also do not inspire much confidence. How often has ANet fixed “Ship of the Line” by now? And there are still broken events, quite frequently actually.
And the only thing I get to hear from ANet is about their “Vision” of the game but not a single word about the problems people report except maybe a “We are looking into this issue”.

For some days now I have played in Fireheart Rise which is pretty much deserted on my server. Yet the spawn rate of both enemies and events seems still to be adjusted with the assumption that the are is teeming with players.

Events start every 10 minutes after you have finished them even when hardly anyone is around to do them. While normally that wouldn’t be much of a problem it is annoying when they contest a waypoint or fill an area you have to go through with enemies.

What just happened was that I had to go into a cave for a story quest, a cave which was choke full of fast respawning devourers and a veteran. While I fought the veteran half of the devourers I killed respawned and I had to do some serious work to stay alive. Somehow I managed to solo all of them to just had an event start on top of me which spawned 5 enemies around me -> Dead.

When I finally cleared the event I could search the camp inside the cave, slowly as I actually read things instead of rushing through and just as I finished my search after about 5 minutes the event started again and I was again surrounded by 5 enemies -> Dead.
