I’m very surprised by the ranger statistics. I have found the rangers in-game to be absolutely thrilled with the ranger experience overall. Myself included.

I’m guessing a lot of the upset people were PvP or WvWvW, where i hear they’re a bit underpowered.

For PvE we are overpowered IMO – At least for solo play. Dungeons, tried a spirit build? Don’t think they could do with some work?

WvW we’re good, but sPvP underpowered isn’t the word because 1v1 I have zero issues the problem arises when more come into the fray. We can get shut down/gibbed easily compared to other class’s. We have non-working abilities, which might be fine for PvE but every second counts in pvp.

Also, our abilities are just BORING in comparing with other class’s. Go make a thief and play with the shortbow, make a warrior and play dual axes/greatsword and see our knock off abilities.

Speccing for survivability isn’t an argument. I’ve already stated this.

Other classes are more than capable of speccing a glass cannon build and having superior survival skills. Those who spec survival have superior damage. Why should ranger (and perhaps ele and even engi though I can’t say for the latter I’ve not played it) be pigeon holed into a spec to deal with a certain thing when EVERY other class get’s a reliable condition remover. There’s just no argument.

Point to me where I said we don’t have the tools? I said we SHOULDN’T have to spec so many traits/specific pets to deal with something anyone else can do on a whim. Why should rangers have to spec a boring spec to deal with certain class’s while those certain class’s can spec what THEY want, how they want, when they want and get away with it? Again, there’s just no argument. Rangers need a reliable, instant, working condition remover. It’s just THAT simple.

People shouldn’t have to spec numerous things and a certain pet to deal with something that most, if not every? (ive only played 5) has in an instant.

Secondly, you speak as though the game’s 1v1. It’s not. With how small the maps are it’s hard to come by 1v1’s without someone joining in. You only have a certain amount of dodges, and a ranger caught in a root will have a far harder time than anyone else.

Like I keep saying, “dodge” is not an acceptable answer, because it can be said for EVERY class, and since there is so much to dodge, it’s not always available.

@midenoch um… Idk about you but my pets never ignored an F3 command an will interrupt himself to reply to it… As for the on demand condition removal we have spirit of nature (it removes ALL your conditions), shake it off on the bear, activating the signet, evasive purity, and healing spring drops 1 condition on cast an an additional condition every second or so…

Oh please.

If you’re caught in a root, do you think you’ll have time to start casting SoN freely?

Shake it off is TERRIBLE, it never works. Unless you keep your pet passive and next to you. It’s slow and unreliable. In a game where every second counts, this is NOT acceptable.

Same can be said for the signet, it’s just unreliable.

And healing spring. Once again, you got time to always cast it when stuck in a root and 100blades is hitting you? You think you got time to wait 1-2-3-4 seconds for it to remove the right condition? AFAIK it removes the last on your applied. A competent player would have applied more by the time it’s finished casting. Sorry, a competent player wouldn’t let it cast.

Everyone spec’s for evasive purity too, which, removes poison and blind doesn’t it? Which helps how if you’re rooted? By dodging..can you dodge while rooted?

Also, your pet always works for you? Strange that it’s a known bug and the forum complains about it all the time, I guess you have some patch we don’t. Let’s say it did work and broke the cast and came running back to you. You got time to sit around and wait for it also? I guess you have the traits for it to run 30% faster also.

Things like 100b or PW get the generic response “Just dodge it”

1 – That can be said for EVERY class.

2 – Can’t dodge while rooted. Can’t break roots because pet’s too stupid.

Kiting a warrior is no problem, but how fair is it that you’re there full damage spec’d kiting away and yet, doing normal amounts of damage, only to have 1 person come in and root you then the warrior get’s a 100b of and gibs you (Don’t spec for damage then? Yeah, like, only ranger’s aren’t allowed? Fine that the warrior does though and still tanks the damage? After all, we could spec survival and do less damage than a litter of kittens)

It’s not a 1v1 game I know, but if the tides were turned and someone rooted that warrior, I’m not going to instantly gib him no matter what his spec. Same for thief.

If we had a decent WORKING WHEN YOU NEED root remover, I’d be 100x happier.

As it stands, all our utility slots except for QZ is pants. The prime quirk to the class being pets abilities is also pretty USELESS also, since they just don’t work.

I speak for myself as a ranger and no one else.

I love GW’s but I have 2 problems with it. The first 2 weeks were great, then it started to die off or so it felt. Maybe people left my server I don’t know, people in the guild just no longer logging on, events getting less and less, so on and so on. Yes, people spread out zones, but not THIS drastically. I’d quite like the overflow as a permanent thing really.

As for my class, well, it’s buggy.

Pet’s run up ahead and aggro everything

Pet’s F2 ability rarely works

An extreme lack of interesting utility slots.

No viable, or even acceptable conditional remover. One from a pet, one tied to a pet. The first falls under the F2 ability, the latter falling under pet out of range, dead, long cool down and pretty mediocre aub-ability tied to it.

The main problem I dislike with the class are the abilities. They are CHEAP knock off’s from both the thief and warrior.

Auto attack for shortbow does nice damage, more than the thiefs, but IMO the other abilities are either more damaging, more flashy looking, or like our evasive shot deals minor damage and a short swiftness on a cooldown, thieves one I find better, not so clunky and can be used numerous times.

The lack of any decent utility slots and no real damaging abilites on the shortbow make it primarily just auto attack. This is not fun for what is rather a signature weapon alongside the longbow.

Our longbow while having nice abilities, is weak on damage.

Our 1 hand sword is also stupid, we have to turn off the auto attack to make sure of it properly. It’s a weapon that you can quite easily work against you than for you.

Greatsword is a weaker knockoff version of the warriors. It’s not really hard hitting either even if you pump all your traits into powe/crit while wearing glass cannon gear. Not compared to other weapons.

Axe 1h’s are “okay” for AoE, but boring. Axe offhand is once again, a weaker knock off from the warriors. This plate class can move while spinning, while the dexterous ranger becomes stationary and hit’s less.

Our traps are good for PvE but even spec’d for them I’d expect more from them. Damage wise at least. They are however pretty bad in sPvP since a competent player will just walk around them. Unless you once again, trait for them to ground target.

The traits feel very counter-intuitive.

Spirits are absolutely useless. For PvE and PvP. Even specing myself fulling into them I can summon all of them to follow me and a single AoE from a warrior/thief..whoever, will literally one shot them. Their casted ability is the same as the pet’s F2 and by the time they’ve gone through their pointless animation, it’s laid it down nowhere where you wanted it, they die in dungeons from a sneeze and a waste of talents making you useless elsewhere.

So, in short:-

It;s buggy, VERY uninteresting abilities especially for signature weapons, you can be shut down very easy and I feel I’m putting in 10x the work on my ranger than other class’s (Honestly I played to rank 10/Level 80 with it before even trying out another and trying warrior/thief for the first time I destroyed people far quicker, far easier and able to spec how I WANTED than rather how I NEEDED to spec to deal with certain classes. It’s also very bland looking and armour is not very rangerish IMO, with a lack of “real” AoE except for barrage or spec’d traps.

1v1 I don’t have a problem with them killing people, but RARELY do you, if ever, get a 1v1 in small scale PvP, in WvW they do fine but it’s a zerg fest IMO, and when it’s not 1v1 you can be shut down quicker than certain other classes and gibbed very quickly (I did spec a decent survival spec and could tank a long time, but again, VERY low damage yet playing 4 other class’s as a tank spec did more damage, or if I spec damage, it’s nice damage when you get the chance, but you need to have situational awareness, which is fine, not when other class’s can go in guns blazing and produce same/better results.

Seriously, my main gripe is such boring utilities. Either boring, or worthless. Same for traits, high end traits worthless, or which other class’s get for free anyway.

Solo PvE we are very strong. 1v1 We can do well, wvw again, well..but it’s all situational, or just plain boring. It’s not fun having to flank people and auto-attack to get their out-put of mashing buttons.

I think it is but I’ve not installed the program I usually use to see everything yet, since I changed from AIDA32 I’ve forgotten what it was called. It isn’t 1gig though, it’s 2. the 5550 is also GDDR2 AFAIK and I “think” it was only 512mb.

Whatever the case, it’s a superior card to my last, which, is the whole point.

It is irrelevant because when using the EXACT SAME settings from a card that’s older and worse, the newer one should be preforming better.

Also, I ran/run around 33fps with every maxed out except for shaders on medium and shadows off with native settings. Pretty much the same as my old card, with the exact same settings, resolution, OS and a clean system. The only difference was older GPU drivers and less windows updates on the old machine, oh, and being dual core rather than quad, and half the ram on the new, with everything up to date.

I’m thinking CPU bottleneck or drivers… The 6670 is definitely a step up from a 5550, but what EXACTLY were the models of the CPUs, and what drivers are you running?

Before doing anything about the computers, make sure you get the newest driver from AMD’s web site (NOT the CD or from the company that built the computer).

See Page 7 of the Tom’s Hardware article " Guild Wars 2: Your Graphics Card And CPU Performance Guide". If you “upgraded” from an Intel Core i3 (dual core) to an AMD quad core, then I won’t be surprised if you don’t notice a difference.

I already told you what drivers they were, 11.8 on the 5550 and the latest for the new one, unless they’ve updated in the last couple hours. Of the top of my head it might be 12.8 but whatever, it’s the latest, from the site.

Both windows 7.

I don’t remember the make of the 5550, it’s not with me anymore, I’d take a gamble and say the same since it was the same place I got them from pre-built (My only 2 times I’ve ever bought a prebuilt in 20 or so years, but I had no choice, that story is irrelevant anyway :p)

and it is an i5 quad core-2320.

Loading speeds is a major improvement though, it’s just FPS, and I only get 10 if I’m VERY lucky by overclocking to the max on the GPU.

Original dual core, 3gig (around that, can’t remember) 4gig or ram, ATI 5550. I “think” the CCC and drivers was version 11.8 (so old, was lazy). Quite a few windows updates not done either.

New computer (Still not great I know!) quad core around 3 gig, 8gb RAM, ATI 6670.
Everything updated to latest.

Yet, I’m getting almost identical FPS settings. I have no overclocked the card, nor did I the last. I’ve bumped the sliders up and seen a slight improvement, but I’ve never really trusted doing it so put it back to default. I’ve also put it all on performance settings in CCC while on the older 5550, I had a few tweaked to quality.

I’m not interested in “that’s a crap card, get blah blah instead” I’m not going to give a TLDR as to why I’ve got it, but it is what it is, and it is meant to be better than the 5550.

Any help as to why please?

Stealth finishes

in PvP

Posted by: Izziee.8392

Izziee.8392

It’s the ONLY viable tactic to finish someone. Else you’ll just find yourself being dazed/knocked/whatnot’ed to death.

Stealth finishing is clever use of stealth, and the reward is appropriate.

So what you’re saying is, it’s the only viable tactic?

So then, it’s balanced that only a couple can do it?

Okay. Sounds fair.

Either that, or you can place a blind on the downed person and you can pray someone’s there to daze the guy who’s trying to resurrect him.

Also, it’s not like it’s a surprise out of the blue. You’ve been fighting the thief/mesmer/engineer/anything because of combofields that create stealth.

It’s not exactly hard to predict when they’re going to fill your throat with a banner.

Besides, you can still hit people in stealth you know. Just throw in the general direction where you think he might be.

its not the only viable tactic the only reason you say that is cause thiefs and memsers are so hard to finish cause there downed abilities but thats a topic for another thread i just feel it would be better if stealth broke when you started casting the down cause you could still get the jump on people but it wouldnt be a free kill like it is now

No. I’m only saying that because the stealthed person has used a cooldown to finish the guy who’s lying on the ground, bleeding to death slowly.
He’s used a bloody cooldown to do that.
OF COURSE he needs to be rewarded for doing so.

So now, you defend the only viable tactic as though it can be countered easily.

That would make it not the only viable tactic.

Yet, you just stated it was.

I see some contradiction in your post there.

So, if it is the only viable tactic, pretty unfair to the other 6 classes, perhaps they should all get a stealthed finisher.

If it isn’t the only viable tactic, then it wouldn’t matter if you lost it, because as you’re stating it is, that must mean you think it’s strong enough to warrant being so.

Interesting.

“So, a thief blows multiple CD’s (Devourer’s Venom, a gap closer (Inf strike, steal, inf sig), haste)), and every class should just be able to hit a stunbreak and get off scott free?”

You mean like, when every other class does it and a thief just vanishes wasting their cooldowns and getting off scott free?

But it’s fine, no one should spec pure damage and have fun, because a thief will kill you, you have to spec your class around thieves. A thief on the other hand, their allowed to spec pure damage, because that’s what they are all doing mostly to get these numbers. Double standards much?

Oh wait, they should learn to dodge. Not like, you know, you need to do that with EVERY other class anyway.

But in the end it’s fine, once you’re out of initiative, you can’t keep bursting like those other classes who’s cooldowns usually take longer to come off than initiative regains anyway.

Still, thieves claiming their not OP must clearly mean their not, after all, it’s the majority that’s wrong and just haven’t learnt to play yet while the thieves are super skilled.

You know, I actually have no problems in dealing with thieves, especially 1 on 1 (but in a zerg fest they have one of the two class’s best abilities at not getting stamped so able to rally) probably because I’ve not met many who’s needed to learn their class, but I do have a problem with the generic defence replies which pretty much go for all classes anyway.

One of those classes was a thief. I went right into the HoTM, picked 2 daggers and 2 pistols and stuck a random sigil and runes in the pre-made armour, barely scratched the surface in what I could spec and just put all my points in damage.

I never buy stories like this, I’m sorry. They always reek of exaggeration. Mostly because there’s so many different ways to really run a thief (or any class) for that matter than the notion of randomly picking your Sigils and Runes (alongside what might be the worst one of the class’ weapon sets, I.E double pistols) is just absurd. Either you were playing against a bunch of derps (which is likely since I assume you hotjoined) or you’re a player with strong instincts.

But this “I picked a random set of crud and slotted it and dominated” oozes faux machismo bull more than anything I’ve read in a while. Just like anybody who says it about any other class.

Default build, a subpar offset, and random runes/sigils? And I’m supposed to believe what you’re saying? You’ll have an easier time convincing me that you are a hyper intelligent housecat typing on a game forum than you will of convincing me that you dominated under those circumstances.

The good news is that whether you believe it or not, doesn’t matter in the slightest to whether it happened or not. I know for a fact it did, and thus, is all that counts. I encourage everyone to go try it and see for themselves.

Some random on the forum believing me or not certainly won’t change the facts sorry to say. Apparently though, thieves seem to think that the absolute majority have no warrant to what they say. You get the “dodge this dodge that” argument, but the exact same can be said for every other class. When people from numerous class’s state something, there’s a reason for it. When the class in defence tries to deny it it has zero merit to it, why? because it’s their own class and either don’t want to admit it for obvious reasons (which there are many, all bad reasons). Claiming your own class isn’t or is something just doesn’t wash. So, as I said, I encourage others, especially some of the weaker class’s, to go right ahead and try it and see for themselves, like I did.

OP, why do you go ahead and automatically assume people haven’t tried thieves out in a game where you can instantly get to level 80 and PvP right off the bat? Really, why make that “assumption”?

Let me tell you, after level to 80 and then playing to rank 10 with my ranger I decided to try out another class. I had tried every spec, build, pet and weapons with my ranger for the record. I tried 4 other classes.

One of those classes was a thief. I went right into the HoTM, picked 2 daggers and 2 pistols and stuck a random sigil and runes in the pre-made armour, barely scratched the surface in what I could spec and just put all my points in damage.

I utterly destroyed people with no effort at all, far easier than with my ranger. I felt disgusted in myself even and promptly dropped the class.

So yeah, please, don’t make assumptions and make it out as you’re some hard done by class. There is a reason 90% of people whine about thieves, that doesn’t come from thin air nor with out merit, and the whole L2Dodge argument get’s stale, especially when that exact mechanic is needed for every other class as well.

I also tried guardians, and felt those were pretty balanced. As a ranger, they can take a while to kill so good node defenders but they are no threat.

Ranger AoE?

Posted by: Izziee.8392

Izziee.8392

You have both amazing, and terrible AoE. It completely depends what you’re doing. For PvE, AoE is awesome, for sPvP it’s okay, for wvwvw you pretty much just got barrage, you can trait your traps but the range isnt so great, but it’s alright if their running at you.

If you’re a SB/LB ranger like me, while I don’t find mesmers hard at all, I find them extremely annoying, and having AoE for them can be lacking in sPvP. You can open with barrage but it roots you, and you can lay your traps, but you probably won’t be running with many with a sPvP set up and then you’d need them to run over them, which a smart player won’t do, and you’re even more unlikely to have them traited anyway.

But generally speaking, it’s awesome for PvE, or being zerged with everyone on you.

Just my opinion. For direct laying the smack down while on the move we have pretty bad AoE.

It’s far from a must considering we have so many ways to get swiftness.

Hell, having an eagle out gives you 10 seconds of swiftness to you and your allies with a 20 second cooldown. You got your 3 seconds on evasive shot, you got your elite skills, horn, 5 points in skirmish gives you it on weapon swap, not to mention the buffs from allies anyway, and our spirit giving a chance for it. That’s a lot of swiftness in a lot of abilities/traits. It’s hard to NOT get it when you need it, and those 5 points won’t be saving your pet when needed (especially with good micromanagement anyway) so better to get a 10 point IMO rather than 2 5’s.

The only thing I am unsure of is the eagle in sPvP, I never seem to see it being cast, I’m wondering if it’s exempt from it, I haven’t really checked (though I like it for it’s F2 ability for more bleeds, as well as it’s cat like precision.

So no, it’s really far from a must. I’ve probably even missed a few.

There’s been a few times I’ve been able to claim a camp, but lately even that seems like I am unable to.

I know full well you can’t if someone else has it.

I am GM to the guild, so obviously I have permissions.

A camp I just ran to, had no one claim it. I tried to claim it, had no option to do so. Someone else came along and claimed it.

I’ve tried claiming a keep before, I got the message “You do not have permission” No one else owned the keep.

I would like to ask how then? I’d say perhaps you would need to have a certain amount done to claim one, since I only just walked up to the camp, but there’s been occasions I’ve walked up and just claimed it.

Is it just buggy and I need to wait for kinks to be worked out, or is there a special knack (other than being first to the keep claiming NPC)

Also, what does the guild actually get for owning a full on keep? I know you can upgrade it with cannons and stuff but does the guild get influence per hour for owning it? is there any benefits aside from fun in defending them? Thanks!

I find a lot of the rangers weapon skills are weak knock offs from the warrior/thief. Warrior when dual axe’s for instance can move when spinning them, and they seem to do more damage. Thief with shortbow has a better AoE (IMO! it’s not as reliable since the cluster is a bit random, but it’s more fun and can do some rather large damage) and their evasive shot move can be used a couple times and even then initiative grows faster than our cooldown, or at least similar levels. The greatsword has similar but far worse abilities than a warriors, and our 1hand sword while one of my favourites, is no where near as good as a warriors (for spvp at least) and hey, we’re rangers,

I’ve always seen a ranger as a class that’s proficient in dexterity type weapons, fast and agile with a bond to nature (some nature spells and able to talk with animals and “summon/command” them for a short time, not keep them always, yet the thing that bugs me most of all, we can’t dual wield swords/daggers. Is it really harder to use a dagger in the mh than offhand??.

I love the ranger but currently it’s so broken with the pets always up in front aggroing and the cursed F2 ability not working. We have no flashy abilities (Hell, even the thiefs shortbow’s autoattack looks more interesting, or the warriors longbow shoots pretty fire)

We have so many utter trash traits, especially in the grandmaster’s tree (we do have some good ones) and our builds seem rather counter productive at times. Let’s not even mention how the ranger, a very dexterous class, has to trait for a 10% movement speed signet while the warrior in plate gets superiour speed. Same as the rogue (albeit understandable) Hell, in “most” ranger lore, the ranger is a bit of a jack of all, and has some minor but weak stealth abilities, especially in the wild.

I do love my ranger but it feels too much like a “hunter” from WoW, with cheap knock off yet worse abilities than the other classes which should in theory be designed more for the ranger, while having nothing flashy for eye candy and suffers from the targetting issues more than any other class (As an ele I can run away from a mob while still spamming ice shards 180 degrees behind me, if I try to jump shot as a ranger, well, good luck, first you get slowed down, second there’s a good chance you’ll change your target, third the cone of fire isn’t really that large and forth, you could end up just hitting something else (doesn’t warriors arrows automatically pierce things btw? unsure of that)

Besides all that, our armour isn’t very rangerish (again, just my opinion) I also find our evasive shot is sluggish and not very fluid, and we’re extremely easy to shut down in melee range, though we output good melee damage, we have silly abilities as mentioned with the 1h sword.

Don’t even get me started on spirit builds and spending like 9 seconds summoning them all for them to actually be dropped in a single AoE in spvp even when traited fully into everything for them.

I feel I do amazing in sPvP but with that said, I’m forced into a very boring build, or I could take my chances with a fun build but get torn to shreds easily, while other classes also suffer from it, don’t feel as punished for it (bar perhaps the engi, I feel they could also do with some love but I don’t play one).

1v1 we are very good, but maps are so small, you don’t get 1v1s very often, wvwvwv is a zerg fest (but we shine there) and our downed abilities are so PvE orientated it feels like a large portion of what we got seems like the dregs that they didn’t dare give another class.

Frustrations over lack of endgame

I guess I’m lucky in that I dislike raiding. Also have always will. I’ve been a GM longer than some here have even been alive, but, to keep my guild mates happy I’ve raided.

So it was a breath of fresh air to see that’s not really the case here. The end game here is what I’d do in other games, PvP.

That said, wvwvw I find…like you say, a mess and a zerg fest, and sPvP has so few maps, and to be honest, it gets VERY boring playing a match with rogues and warriors with the occasional mesmer in. Today I kid you not, 5 warriors, 4 rogues. It’s like this always.

I can beat them 1v1 and I can even beat them in packs, the problem is, I feel FORCED (ranger) to spec a build I don’t really enjoy with low damage out put both in burst/dps but decent survival. It saddens me to see my spirits 1 shot by an AoE from either of these classes though.

If I go full on damage, I don’t do close to what these classes do, unless I choose to go melee, but then I get absolutely shredded. So while I have no issue in PvP with surviving and killing, I have issues in feeling forced to spec into things that aren’t fun, just to compete. Hell, even after trying both those classes myself, I see my class has knockoff abilities that they have, yet in every case worse (Spinning axes for example, warriors can move, I can not) Shortbow for rogues, they have the same evasive shot just tied in with better addons to it, along side no cooldown while being able to pull it off 2-3 times and initiative regaining faster than mine has a cooldown.

If I want to play a spec I enjoy to make it work I need to go to wvwvw where it shines, but alas, that problems already been discussed.

So I both can and can’t agree with you. Especially the lack of sPvP “battlegrounds”

Why I think that crafting is broken

in Crafting

Posted by: Izziee.8392

Izziee.8392

Yeah no, the crafting doesn’t need to be any easier than it already is. What are you expecting OP? This is an MMO, it by and large is already a time sink. Do you have any idea how many people are at 400 crafting already? I think instead of putting down the system, you need to reconsider how you’ve managed your mats and what you chose to craft.

Oh I’m sorry, I was expecting Anet to follow what it has already said. Maybe if you had been reading and not just the opening post you would realize that I’m trying to level crafting as I level so I am able to use the gear I make, however the consensus is to only level up crafting when you hit end game when it is financially possible.

Yeah don’t go assuming because YOU can’t do something.

I leveled crafting while leveling. All the way to 400 and actually regret how much XP I gained from it since I missed the zones at my appropriate level.

It’s easy enough. It’s TOO easy.

You have your opinion and that’s all it is. Taking a look at the general census in this topic, you are by far the minority as well.

Mystic salvage kit - less than 25% rare salvage?

in Crafting

Posted by: Izziee.8392

Izziee.8392

Well unfortunately, since it’s 25%, you could technically salvage 1,000 times and not get a rare, since it’s 25/100 chance every time. It doesn’t add up the more you salvage, or make it more likely to get a rare.

To sum it up, it does indeed seem like you’re having an unlucky streak, but don’t be gambler! Don’t think “My luck HAS to change now!” and keep going at it if you think you shouldn’t! :P

That really isn’t how percentages work, for something like that to happen would be almost impossible. Percentages are just that, and the more you do of something, the closer it will be.

For example, prospecting in WoW (Actually, I’m an avid crafter in ever MMO, I love it) but I have quite honestly prospected over 200,000 elementium ore along side similar, yet more obsidium. I get almost exactly what percentage of coloured gem I am suppose to after a huge batch of prospecting. Same with disenchanting and basically, everything that follows the pattern of percentage.

That said, as the OP already stated, his sample size wasn’t very large. He should however still be in the 22-28% range.

Legendary weapons, Mystic Clover and 2 million karma

Izziee.8392

On guildwars2guru we are a bunch of players who have been trying to figure out how to make the Legendary weapon Twilight. Here is a link to the thread: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/62812-crafting-twilight-speculation-and-how-to/#entry1906790

We have a list of items that we think you need to make the weapon. However the most interesting item is the Mystic Clover, we have come to the conclusion that you need 250 Mystic Clovers. The only known way of getting the Mystic Clover is by combining “10 Obsidian Shards + 10 Ectoplasm + 10 Crystals + 10 Mystic Coins”.

HOWEVER it is a random out come which means you have a chance of getting Mystic Clover, when taking into account that it is random and that you need 10 Obsidian Shards it basically takes aproximately 1,5 million, yes 1,5 million karma to get your 250 Mystic Clovers from this random recipe.

In addtion to the 1,5 million karma needed for the 250 Mystic Clovers you also need 525k karma to buy another 250 Obsidian Shards. This makes the total Legendary grind cost you aproximately 2 million karma. Asuming you spend 12 hours a day farming 50k karma it will take you 40 days to get 2 million karma. I have seen rediculous grinds before (Diablo 3 – Paragon lvl 100 comes to mind) but this grind blows everything else out of the water.

I see two options either the recipe costs a lot more than was originally intended or the Mystic Clover has its own recipe too (which of course would have to be much cheaper). So if anyone have any insight on a recipe to make Mystic Clovers in the Mystic forge please share.

I take it you’ve never played eve online then?

Want to know how long it will take before you can effectively fly a titan (PROPERLY fly one)

Here’s the good news! You’re not alone, so don’t worry about facing anyone with it any time soon. Oh? We should all be able to get things right away? Here I was thinking people were already complaining about nothing to do (I’m not one of them)

Silly me.

Sons of Nightmare on Gandara

Whole host of the above issues but the main one I am concerned with is not being able to build anything

I can’t even see what’s in the build queue

I can’t add anything

If I try to make a rank able to add something the game disconnects me.

Wasting a lot of time here.

in Ranger

Izziee.8392

So, I’ve tried many builds. If I go full on damage with power and precision as well as condition damage while wearing the full damage gear, I get chewed apart.

But that makes sense right? Being a glass cannon, well, why should you be able to tank?

With that said, if a thief or warrior choose a pure class cannon build, not only is their damage insanely higher than the rangers they also live longer. So, put the classes together both maxed out in damage, then they win in damage and survival. I do think the rangers damage is weak, especially with the long bow. Short bow isn’t “that” bad, but relying on hitting sides/back isn’t always possible in sPvP. I do more damage as melee, but again, such a glass cannon that being a ranger, ranged should be optimal.

Once again, this wouldn’t be so bad IF the pet’s abilities worked on demand. Not 5 seconds or 20 button mashes later.

HOWEVER, I’ve also tried a pure spirit build where I’ve bumped up my toughness and vitality to max, put on the same gear and end up with 25k HP compared to the 18k not so high damage glass cannon. I’ve increased the spirits chance for the buffs, made them follow and every ability designed for them.

Yet, I summon all 3, which can take a while (not sure on cast time, perhaps 1.5 sec each) and along comes a 100B warrior and bam. All spirits dead instantly. That’s not to even bring into their actual abilities being pretty worthless since they fall behind you, have an animation and long cast time that when they’ve used them, their not where you want them to be. It’s not just warriors, it’s any real AoE ability. It completely destroys the spirits instantly. So that makes the spec rather weak and pointless. My survivability is amazing when I actually have all 3 up, even more so with the elite (who doesn’t die from AoE so easily) and I can easily tank numerous players, but the trade off? My damage is utter trash. Fair trade off, if the spirits worked properly (no animation time on casts, stayed closer to you, and perhaps even allowing the ranger to place the effects and having a reduction against AoE).

We have some nice abilities but by taking them, we kitten ourselves in other areas. Playing my thief, I just get upset seeing how great their shortbow abilities are in comparison. We can take traits to transfer stuns etc to pets, but it’s a long cooldown, we got shake it off, but good luck with that working every time, and our downed states, while amazing in PvE, pretty much suck in sPvP.

Rangers are fine in PvE (i’d like to see damage transfered from the pet to the ranger perhaps) and their alright in WvW, but in sPvP unless you’re taking a survivability spec, then we miss out on so much compared to what others gain for producing higher damage. Again, it’s all about choice, but some of ours are forced if we want to compete for average abilities anyway which others get with no trade offs.

I’ll state very clearly, this is NOT 1v1 situations, but group play. 1v1 I’ve no issue. Being zerged, while we should die…it shouldn’t be 10x faster than numerous other classes. I believe buffing spirits survival would help greatly.

The weirdest thing, I couldn’t even whisper people after the guild issue was fixed (for me not everyone else)

Then suddenly 20 minutes later my characters cycling through all sorts of names back and forth to whisper. (no, wasn’t hacked, I believe it was INSANE lag trying to message the people I tried to whisper 20 minutes earlier) then i got spammed with whispers I had sent, back to me, as though others had said them…

Having a hard time targeting

I’ve played almost every mmo out there(except asian ones) and i don’t remember i had a problem with targeting in any of them.
I am constantly losing my target during fights , sometimes my target just disappears during a channeling spell and i have to double check every time i target someone. is there any kind of sticky targetting in this game?

I’m going to assume something here, that the “better” players are the ones with the problem. I’m really not trying to sound egotistical here, but I’ve done pretty well in most games I’ve played, I also find the targetting system a bit dodgy. There’s some in the guild who say they don’t have a problem, then there’s other’s who do, who also are generally pretty decent gamers.

I see some here saying move with your keys not mouse, I see others saying use RMB not LMB. Firstly sure, no issue if I back peddle. Secondly, same issue no matter which mouse you use to turn.

As a ranger, it makes it very hard to do 180/360 jump shots to kite with. In fact, they are pretty impossible since it slows you down in the air when you turn direction. There is a cone of fire in which you can strafe and keep firing but obviously there’s a deadzone to that cone, and keeping it even at the max possible degree before you start to stop shooting, means anyone can catch up. The further you are into the cone the quicker they will catch you. Some abilities even allow you to jump backwards but again, if you run away and do a 180 to use the ability, you’ll either halt for a second before you turn to run, or again, slow down.

So as I said, it seems the higher the skill cap, the harder it is to keep the same target, I’ve also found on occasion someone/something blocking your LoS can switch the target, but I’m yet to test that extensively, more an observation. If however, I play in a casual sense, and back peddle, or stop and shoot or anything along those lines, you can keep your target with no issue. It’s not so bad on full endurance, but when you’ve rolled a couple times, you need to slow down and lower your skill level :P

Sounds weird I know. I’m sure people will disagree but so far, that seems the case regardless. I don’t find it much of a coincidence that the better players are having this issue while others are not either. Still, each has their own opinion, none more valid than an others since that’s all it is, an opinion, and as of yet, no hard evidence to prove either way.

WTF is a “better player” btw a “better player” would know that doing “spin jumps” does not make you immune to damage, and also dosent make you any harder to hit than just turning around without jumping.

also…..i keybind like anyone else but in this game it is necessary to strafe with q and e so instead of using both mouse buttons to move forward like i would normally do i use q w e plus right mb for turning. middle finger and ring finger for skills 12345.

so plz dont give me this “better player” crap

bottom line….stop hilding both lmb and rmb, you are doing it wrong.

i mean really you should be adapting, i would strafe circles around your corpse in wvw

I’m sorry? Where did I say spin jumps make you immune to damage? That’s a prime example, a better player would understand that being able to do a 360 while firing on the 180 means you can kite easily. Just so we’re clear hear, kiting does not mean “immune to damage” lol. It means you can fluidly keep running in the same direction (You know, away from the player?) while still being able to fire. You pretty much proved my point.

Today I logged on, I checked the guild (I’m GM) it showed me and me only in the roster, our emblem had changed back to the original, I couldn’t type but was representing, we had no influence, the roster was just strange…I could go on.

30-40 minutes later, it all came back.

Then I get a mail from a guildie “what’s up with the guild?” she couldn’t see anything either.

I proceeded to put it down to personal problems rather than serverwide or whatever, and started to recruit. 2 members wanted to join, I tried to invite them but they didn’t get the invite. I couldn’t even add them as a friend, nor could they me. I asked in map, same problem.

I go out to do other stuff, come home and our influence hasn’t increased, our last thing that we have built is stuck on 00:00 and I can’t queue anything up.

Is there a work around? Anyone having issues also? I don’t really know what to do since this is a huge bug effecting not just me but the whole guild.

I would imagine it’s a case to case scenario.

Toughness for fast hitting abilities. For arguments sake, let’s assume 2x daggers, reducing fast but smaller damage would be more beneficial for toughness, while having a huge 2 handed hammer smashing into your face, I’d take vitality.

Also, the problem is GW’s isn’t like other games, having high health would benefit a character getting healed a lot, but there’s no real healers.

Picking one over the other isn’t really going to help you, they both benefit against different things, so unless you’re dedicated to fighting a single mob type then just play around with it and see what suits you best.

There is a way to see who contributed coin/items/influence. I’m at work atm so I cant say exactly where it is but I think it’s under the guild log. The reason I know is because I purchased drinks for patrons outside the bank area in lion’s arch and looked at how much it gave. It does not show total amount 1 person contributed but you can add up by going through the log.

I’m not sure you read correctly, or I just don’t understand you. I already stated that he didn’t purchase anything. Currently, in the history I see a couple things

XX members logged in earning XXX influence
XX activities were completed earning XX influence
Player X bought letter of commendation earning 400 influence
Player X bought (blank? bugged I guess) earning 1000 influence (Which, I believe is from the deluxe edition)

No where can I find where [Player] has earned [xxxx] influence. But you’re stating that you can see who earned what influence..? “There is a way to see who contributed coin/items/influence.

Had a member state that he had “single handedly earned the most influence”

I didn’t think it was possible to see, and being a GM I’d imagine I’d have the option to check that, so am I missing it?

He hasn’t added influence to the guild via any books like some have, and I’ve got the achievement myself for a lot of influence in the guild but that doesn’t show. So, before assuming he’s just making stuff up, I’d like to know if there’s an option for this, it would be nice for me to be able to see who is and isn’t pulling their weight (Just for promotion reasons obviously)

Thanks in advance.
