If people love WoW so much why don’t you just stick to that rather than complaining here? This game has no sub fees and a lot of people play for that reason. If there was a sub fee then the game would lose a lot of players because it would be just another MMO which would have to follow the same model as WoW because that’s the only way charging that much money is justifiable.
Because we’re only paying for the game and nothing after (not including gem store but that’s completely optional) we get what we pay for. I would say that if you get 100 hours entertainment out of this game then it is well worth what you pay for it. If you didn’t get 100 hours of enjoyment out of this but played it for 100 hours+ then it’s kinda your own fault. Research pays off. And before you all say “but Anet promised this, and Anet promised that”, things change all the time. There is always advertising that glorifies the product because that’s life, that’s how companies make money. That’s all this game really is, a way to make money.
It doesn’t matter what forum you go on, no matter what game there will be complaining, but I don’t understand why. People have a choice in life to play games, you don’t have to if you don’t like it. You wouldn’t join a sports team for a sport you don’t like, so why play a video game you don’t like? I just simply don’t understand the mentality of a lot of people who complain on forums, and not just for GW, for pretty much every MMO out there.
And lastly no I didn’t play WoW from the start, and I know it had more than GW2 does as far as endgame is concerned, however, it was also p2p from the start so was needed and was well funded. The base WoW game was the same price as the base GW game and you had to pay the fee on top of that given them a lot more responsibility to keep the game as full as possible whereas just levelling to 80 in GW2 gives you your moneys worth, and there is still no shortage of things to do at 80. Whether you regard the activities as “fun” or not is merely opinion, and varies from person to person.
I honestly can’t believe some people expect a huge amount of endgame less than a year after release especially in an MMO. Look at any MMO, including WoW… None of them had what you’re asking for within the first year and a lot of it came from expansions released a few years after release. I really enjoy GW2 for the game, not for having everything handed to me like most MMO’s are based on. At the moment it is like any normal game in the fact that when you “finish” it, you finish it, that’s it, until they add more content. Maybe you shouldn’t rush to lvl 80, and if you didn’t then you still got your moneys worth because there is no subscription fee. I don’t get all the complaining.
Took me 2 mins to realise they were bouncing lol, easily distracted… But yea I’ve noticed a lot more girls playing MMO’s over the past couple of years and tbh the whole “hitting on girl gamers” thing is starting to wear off a little and I think that’s attracting more girls to play. That or they are generally just getting tougher on guys who treat them badly. Either way though I do like girls company, sometimes more than guys so I really hope it keeps growing and more and more do start playing without feeling the need to pretend to be a guy. I think it would definitely bring the community together more, MMO worlds like the real world needs a bit of both sides to be at its best.
I agree that the details lost somewhat but I kinda feel that if you make an Asura character then you should expect it. It’s always been the same with small characters in any games, they just lose the detail because obviously scaling is an issue, but upscaling the items would look horrible.
I personally think staves sit better on an asura than any other race and the detail isn’t lost as much as probably implied here but yea daggers you can hardly see. Making daggers bigger though would look so much more out of place, all for detail/showing off, but if you wanted that level of detail then you can always use another of your 5 character slots to make a different race character? I for example have an Asura elementalist and a Human elementalist for armour and weapon detail.
As much as I like a large bust it gets a bit too much and just really distracting! I’m a guy and think a male human wearing a skirt will make me question my sexuality more than playing a female character, so chose to make my elementalist female, and I really like it but in a lot of light armour they just bounce around all over the place and are massive! The flat chest physique is too small and the only other alternative is massive, there’s no middle ground. But I guess a lot of guys who make female characters make them for the bust size, so justified from ANets perspective but please make a middle ground or way to adjust them a little.
Jae there are plenty of games out there that have what you’re asking for. Guild wars isn’t even a year old and you’re expecting full on end game to the likes of other MMO’s that have been out for years and years. I suggest taking a break from this game, stop complaining and come back in a years time if you can’t enjoy the game for what it is now. There is end game but if it is not to your tastes, they are your problems and you should be the one to take action and not ANet who are doing a fantastic job so far. The only action you can take for yourself is to quit the game for the time being and wait it out, like I said, plenty of other MMO’s to go play. Unless you want to go get a job working for ANet and actually realise how difficult it is to satisfy everyone at the same time. I’m sure then you wouldn’t be complaining.
I agree and did write out a whole thing about this but it signed me out when I went to post it! But, basically, those familiar with FFXI or even unfamiliar with but read a lot of news will know about Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden. These bosses were designed to be beaten but not for a very long time and it took about 5 years for people to reliably kill AV. Of course, hardcore MMO players will walk through fire to beat something in the game so spent well over 24 hours in one fight without sleep or rest which led to illness and it being in the news.
While these are extreme examples of tough bosses, they really did give everyone a challenge and required a lot of coordination, usually only the FFXI equivalent of guilds would turn up to fight it because unless you had that level of coordination you were doomed to fail. Getting to Absolute Virtue was not very different from the way world events work now in GW2, in the fact that it was open world, anyone could go and watch (albeit with a high risk of dying) and it would pop after the first boss died, which was a LOT easier than absolute virtue.
I don’t think adding a boss on that scale would benefit GW2 but something along those lines where it maybe has the same HP as a world boss but used moves that would insta-kill anyone in the AoE area unless they had some kind of buff only available to guardians, or gained resistances for set times where no damage could physically be done so there will be that time where damage is pointless, or even just certain damage giving magic classes times where they are more useful or when bullets do more etc.
I’m in no way complaining about the game as it is, I love it! I could happily play for ages because I played FFXI for so many years, along with WoW etc and I got fed up of having to be elitist to even get the opportunity to play in raids etc. I do think though, having the opportunity to attempt a boss that was very difficult, but possible to kill would add a whole new level to this game and make it even better with more variety and will probably bring the community together more. The only thing I will say is that if a boss like this is made, it shouldn’t have game breaking items attached to it, so that it’s more for fun than achieving anything but I don’t think ANet would ever have game breaking items in mind anyway.
I find it very funny that people are comparing every MMO to WoW. The only reason a lot of MMO’s use the same template as WoW is because it was so successful and they can’t modify the template to make it their own and compete. GW2 is competing though, and has had a very good first year compared to a large amount of MMO’s and probably in line with WoW, even though it has a completely different template.
The only things that are similar are the inclusion of instances in general and parts of the UI but only what is essential in any MMO and to feel comfortable playing one. To say that there are no raids because there are no WoW style raids is just silly because a raid, in general terms, could mean any bosses being killed by a large force, as mentioned before. So in literal terms there are raids and they are the world events.
I don’t know about you lot but I actually play GW2 simply because it’s not WoW. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve quit WoW because of the elitist jerks telling me that I can’t play because I was too late after expansion releases, so don’t have the achievement to prove I can do it, therefore I’m a terrible player. Yes there are elitist people in any MMO but nowhere near as much as WoW, and on top of all that I find the combat etc a lot more dynamic and fun in GW.
WoW style does not always make an MMO better and is not always the holy grail, so following that style and saying something isn’t such and such just because it’s not following that same old template is just being blind to different ways. Kinda funny though how people always compare this to WoW. Maybe, just a thought, you should go buy and play WoW instead?
How much do you play? What motivates you to play?
- I play for like 5-6 hours everyday pretty much, less on weekends though because I usually have more to do on weekends. It’ll probably change a lot when my broken leg heals up and I’m back at work but for now it’s a fantastic way of passing the time!
What attracted you to this game over other MMOs?
- I’ve always played other MMO’s to look good which hasn’t really sat well with people! Turning up with decent gear that looks good rather than the ultimately best gear isn’t an option in most games but being able to get skins in this game is perfect for me. Also the fact that I was getting a bit too elitist in other games so wanted something a bit more relaxing.
How often do you play with and interact with other players? Are most of your friends people you know from in game, or from real life?
- I don’t really interact with many people in game, or at least not as much as previous games but at the same time I’m still lvling so that will most likely change the higher I lvl up. I have a friend in real life that I play with but most friends are too busy to play.
What do you do with your time in game?
- Dailies, exploration, missions etc etc
I actually really agree with this just to open the game up a little more, but I can see there would be quite a few against it. I used to play an MMO, don’t wanna name drop but a few might be able to tell, where there was an item held by the city and due to a siege event happening on a daily basis, could potentially be lost to the enemy. If you lost it because not many people turned up, then you lost all access to warps and other ways to travel etc so people were kinda forced to travel around all the areas. It was a hassle in a way but it kinda brought the community together more because 1. people were grouping up for the siege event more, and 2. people had to utilise each other to get around more effectively or look to each other for other routes.
I’m not saying doing exactly the same in this game is a good idea but something along those lines would be a nice addition to spice it up a little.
I agree with the concept but in practice it wouldn’t work at all. People would go around down voting everything just because they can and so nothing will ever get implemented on the basis that it has more negative votes. It happens all over with sites that have down voting, and is very clear where people haven’t even read what they’re disliking. Overall though it’s a good idea, but forum communities aren’t really place for that unless it’s a very close-knit community which an mmo isn’t really.
“you fan boys” sorry I’m not sure who you’re talking to, and seeing as that’s your only argument left I can only assume you have no point. I play everyday as and when I can cause I also have a life. I go on the forums to watch debates and be involved in them because I like them, and secondly to learn about other classes from other people and see how to better my character, because strangely enough that’s what forums are for… discussion.
I can see where you’re getting confused however, seeing as these forums are littered with people complaining while most people are content with what they have so don’t post. I personally just want to express how stupid these complaints are because they all just describe every other mmo out there today. I’m entitled to express myself in exactly the same way as you express your distress with this game.
Because I play a game I’m suddenly a fan boy? Btw I’m definitely not, but I know what I enjoy. This game was never advertised as having endgame and in fact never actually advertised anything other than story and dynamic events. I never said it was revolutionary but it is different to other mmo’s in the way it’s played, with weapons and skills etc. Like I say, what you’re asking for is WoW etc. Go run along to them if you’re unhappy?
Look all the anti-fan bois are out together in the same thread. How touching.
Two years from now, this game will still be doing fine. Hopefully by then you’ll have found other games to play that you actually enjoy.
The stuff that you complain about is of concern to players like you and rightly so. Ergo this game might not be for you.
On the other hand, I disagree with most of what you have to say, and so do other people.
It’s not a fact that this game is horribly imbalanced, it’s an opinion. It’s not a fact that rangers can’t run dungeons, because they can run them fine. It’s not fact that Anet is doing terrible things to the game, because some people really like the updates.
You have an opinion that differs from the opinions of others. You feel the need to hang around a game forum and badmouth not only the game, but more importantly people who are enjoying the game.
I’m not going to bad mouth you guys…because there’s no reason to. You just want a different game than this is. Which doesn’t by any means make this a bad game.
How much is arenanet paying you? Is it in carrots or dollars? You know that there are those of us who doesn’t want to run around chasing some DE for months, some want competitive pvp, some good designed dungeons, some WvW without skill lock…
Then find a new game? Plenty out there that have what you’re looking for.
This game is a whole lot better than most when it comes to devs listening to players. There are things they do need to balance because in any choice there will be players who benefit from it and people who don’t. Players who like the changes and people who don’t. Nobody can please everybody, the forums I guess are for everyone who actively dislikes the game but doesn’t wanna quit silently, rather scream and shout that it’s all bad, when it clearly isn’t because you got to lvl 80 in the first place. I just don’t get everyones complaining, constructive criticism is good, but raging that the game is terrible and there’s nothing good about it, is just plain silly.
I really like GW2, definitely a nice change from the other mmo’s I’ve played and gonna keep me entertained for a very long time, and considering there are no monthly fees, it’s even better! ANet do listen to players and make changes faster than most mmo’s today, and I guess if you still don’t like it, those other mmo’s are out there waiting to disappoint you just as much as GW does.
I’ve played both GW and while I liked GW1, 2 is better for me. This MMO is still relatively new, look at others for example, within their first year they’re completely different to how they are now. There are things that ANet have to work on but that’s like every game, if you’re completely giving up now then I’m afraid you’ll never be happy with gaming. Taking your frustration that all mmo’s are this way out on 1 of them is just stupidity, and to be fair the game’s better off without you and your complaining. Not meaning to sound harsh just the way it is.
And just to point out, there will never be true fact that 1 game is better than another. A game can be better in sales figures but consider how long GW1 has been out and how long 2 has been. You basically have no viable argument because it’s all opinions and while you can argue opinion, ultimately nobody will win, so good luck trying.
Fun is subjective and different for literally everyone. While people can spend thousands on the gem store to get legendaries, that is what they would call fun, possibly because they’re working so hard they don’t have the time to make their own but do have the real money to spend to get one. This would mean that every time they log on they can enjoy it more.
There are so many reasons why people with money would spend real life money to aid their game play especially if they can afford it. Hell, I’m not rich but I’ve bought some things with real money – it’s not expensive and makes your character look good, which is half of the reason I play RPG games.
If you’re rich in real life and want to buy your way to the best you should have that right seeing as the options there, without the gemstore the game wouldn’t be as accessible for a lot of people because of a constant subscription fee. People really need to stop complaining or find a new game, there are a lot of subscription games out there which have what you’re looking for.
On a side note – RMT ring a bell? If you’re looking to be the best in any MMORPG I’m sorry, it will never happen. No matter whether a game has a store or not there will always be ways for rich people to gain an edge over the competition. It’s actually much better in GW2 than it is in subscription MMO’s because spending real money for GW only effects visual and not so much stats unlike other games.
Just feel I should add this in – most “rich” people in the world don’t easily get to where they are and most have been working since they were legally able to work so they can achieve that level of work and earn their fortunes. Being rich is a nice outcome to a lot of hard work so I think if you do reach that level when you’ve put in all the work for it then you should be allowed to do what you like and seeing as this is a game where buying nice things with real money is acceptable and encouraged then I don’t think they should be slated for that.
Like it’s been said a lot already, the game would have to be P2P if they removed the gem store and I’d much rather someone looking “better” than me, but being able to play free for as long as I want. Besides, the items on the gem store are hardly bank breaking and only the people buying serious amounts of gems for gold are the people benefitting slightly, but even then if they choose to waste that money on a game they most probably have earned that right by working their way up in real life. Like I said, it takes a lot to be rich and really doesn’t come easy.
