It is a game, do they HAVE to give you a reward every time? I think it is ludicrous to think that way. In RL, you don’t get rewarded every time you do something. You are starting to sound like this…

Getting stuff after you kill monsters is the cornerstone of MMO gaming. Is this concept really that hard to grasp?

Sounds cool, very SAB -esque, and although I sucked horribly at that I would have a go at it if it were introduced as permanent content.

Actually, I’d one up that idea and propose SAB content be altered slightly and added as a permanent dungeon. All the jumping puzzle fun, with tougher mobs (non-stackable though, for those guys) and tokens for armour and weapon skins. I think SAB themed armour is potentially pretty awesome (or, well, awful). It could be minimalistic with some of the pixelly ‘super’ effect. Maybe have some of the classic 8-bit heroes inspire the designs.

I remember reading quite a few posts last year lamenting the ‘disbanding’ of the dungeon team, so it’s probably safe to assume that hasn’t changed.

If by some miracle we were to get a new 3 or 4 path dungeon, what do you guys reckon would be the theme? My money’s on a clockwork/steam creature lair of some sort.

It really is that simple. Suggestions like these are a bit selfish, imho. You want the entire game changed in a way that would upset a majority of players, when you could simply put some effort into grouping and play the way you want to.

Some people would prefer a challenge. Do you really prefer running the same dungeon doing the same boring thing over and over, no challenge whatsoever? Without the challenge running a monotonous dungeon becomes “work”. This is bad… Increase the difficulty and reward the player accordingly for completing a difficult task.

Actually, no, I rather enjoy it. Having a ‘script’ to go by takes a lot of the guesswork out of running. Everybody knows what to do, most of ’em do it and in between phases we goof off, emote, have fun basically.

Rewards aren’t going to be increased. It would be nice to topple the almighty BLTC, but this game’s reward and loot structure is very firmly rooted in maintaining the economic systems. So you can forget about that. If you want a challenge for the sake of it, there are many options available to you that do not involve altering the game’s code at all.

BLTP is simply a tool. Trying to make it something else is a personal issue nobody but you (and possibly your therapist) can address.

Posts like the OP’s main focus is elsewhere. No-one actually dislikes having a tool that enables us to buy and sell almost any item in the game, the issue is how much of the game seems to be built around it.

Oooh, here’s another analogy.

It’s like a smartphone. Pretty much everyone uses one, and some of us feel completely lost and naked without ‘em. But what if you had to use it for everything. Not just texting and taking the occasional selfie; I’m talking about needing a phone in order to collect your salary, access healthcare, buy groceries, you name it. that would get old fast, man.

While we’re using analogies, I think ‘nailgun vs hammer’ is a flawed way of looking at this. We need something more complex and fitting.

It’s like working on a job site, with not only a nailgun, but the very latest hardware available. But you’re working alone, under the scrutiny of cameras, and the foreman counts every single nail you use.

Old fashioned hammers-and-nails, saggy pants, cat-calling-at-the-ladies-passin’ by construction work. With all your best mates, taking your time (occasionally sneaking off at lunch hour for a few cold ones) but getting the job done.

I’m all for raids though. Don’t have much experience in ’em, but any new content and activities are a plus in my books.

Daily dungeons the best way to make dependable, tax-free gold and still have some fun along the way. Salvage the greens and blues, sell the rares (with 150% MF I get an average of one rare per path). Get your crafting up to 500 and you can make a small profit from crafting the tradeable Ascended components as well.

I have never had any luck flipping. Followed the guide of flippable items and they just kind of sat there in my sell list for about 2 or 3 days, before I took ’em down shrugs

Perhaps we won’t get a full-on expansion, but instead the option to purchase access to additional maps via the gem store. Each would come with it’s own set of hearts and events, a handful of unique rewards (skins!) and hopefully at least one new dungeon between the lot. And of course, a boatload of loosely related fluff in the gem store

I don’t think new races or professions are likely in the immediate future though.

no to purchasing new maps via the gem store if they release they better release to all otherwise at that time id be gone for good. they stated all item in gem store were cosmetic only

Well, look at it like this: You’ve got to pay for expansion content regardless of how it’s made available to us. If it’s broken up into small packages (LotRO and DDO have done this, I believe it worked reasonably well there) that can be bought for gems, then we have the option of spending cash or grinding and doing a gold→gem conversion. And this way, we only need pay for the content that we find interesting or appealing.

Definitely, the Canthan and Elonian aesthetics alone added so much to this series. It’s a shame GW2 didn’t incorporate more of them.

Stacking analyzed, and ideas for mob design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jahroots.6791

I don’t know what kind of players you have on your world but the zergs I participated in were, for the very most part, good organized.
Like I wrote, boss encounters have to readjusted to be less of a zergfest and damagetest but more of an organized fight. This does also apply to keeps in WvW.
And how exactly would it be gamebreaking?

C’mon man, ‘organized zerg’ is kind of an oxymoron. Also, if you find that most zergs are well organized, then why are you suggesting gameplay mechanics to counter them? Why do you want boss encounters to require more organization?

It could be game breaking because it would make res’ing downed players difficult, bordering on impossible in some situations.

You collide with the wall and keep running on the spot. If there was no collision detection, you’d run through it and into the Abyss (no seriously, I once fell through the map in CoE. Not during a Fiery Rush, though.) I think what you’re really suggesting is that Fiery Rush ends when you collide with something.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jahroots.6791

Jahroots.6791

Collision detection won’t stop the zergs, it would just limit the way players position themselves. Co-ordination is usually the opposite of what happens in zergs – There’s a handful of players who do the important stuff (turrets at Teq, Dropping siege in WvW) and everyone else just runs around and smashes things.

But I have noted that it could potentially be game-breaking. Is that what you want? Because that’s how you get ragequitters.

Item naming just needs to revert to the system used pre-patch, that was flawless. Our gear should be named after the skin, and any upgrades added.

E.g. ’Peacemaker’s Greatsword of the Berserker’ not ’Zojja’s Claymore’.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jahroots.6791

I don’t see how character collision would stop PvE or WvW zergs. It would just make them spread out a bit more. Large scale zerging is already pure chaos for the average player as is, due to frame rate drops and particle effects. Moreover, I think this would be game-breaking in a few ways. Think of the implications for res’ing downed players for starters.

Also, it’s collision detection that allows FGS rush to work in the first place. Lol.

Stacking analyzed, and ideas for mob design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jahroots.6791

Jahroots.6791

It is not.

To be fair, I should have used more objective language. Stacking can be enjoyable in itself. Better? Because I enjoy it, personally. As do most of the dungeon runners I’ve come across. The stack itself kind of sucks, visually, but the efficiency is very satisfying. Especially if you’ve experienced the alternatives.

Blood Red makes some good suggestions though, but as I’ve stated in other threads, more challenging mechanics will not add lasting value to dungeons. It’ll be interesting the first few times, then players will try to find the fastest and easiest way to get it over with. The methods proposed would be excruciatingly tedious unless (a)rewards are increased and/or (b) enemies’ HP pools are significantly reduced.

If you want to play the game for your personal entertainment then surely stacking in a corner (with limited skills and awful visuals) is some of the lowest entertainment the game can give you.

What if I told you…. bursting down enemies quickly and efficiently in a stack is enjoyable in itself? Because it totally is.

Meh, you lot are judging them too harshly. To be fair, that logic could be applied to most of the races in this game.

What makes them interesting to me is that there’s genuinely a level of mystery about them because they appear very infrequently in-game. I would like to see them used a bit more often (I’d trade twenty Quaggan in the open world for one Largos, please) but still sparingly enough that encountering one is still somewhat memorable.

Make fights harder and this is what will happen:

PUGs will find afk range safe spots.
Experienced groups will melee and do the fight properly.

Exactly. All this would do is make the content more difficult and time consuming for the average player, not enjoyable. I’m sure some of you remember when ‘Plz nerf TAFU’ was practically a meme on the forums.

My perspective is if they were to change AI, then they should increase the rewards from normal mobs and bosses to compensate for the change. If they implemented AI changes and left the rewards as they are now they no one would do them because the time vs the reward isn’t worth it.

And this is exactly why I oppose any changes. We are not likely to see any increase in rewards. Players have been complaining about sub-par and uninteresting loot long before the anti-zerk, skipping and stacking people started coming out of the woodwork.

Suggestion: remove underwater combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Excellent points, Orpheal, particularly (6) and (7). The loss of core mechanics is probably one of the main reasons many players dislike underwater combat. Some classes are still quite fun to play, but my mesmer and ele feel kind of….awkward and cumbersome underwater.

Was hoping that the remains of the Nightmare Tower would be made into an underwater dungeon, toxic-themed weapons and armour would have been pretty sweet. Underwater town also gets my vote as long as it’s not full of kittening Quaggans, lol.

Not exactly. But I don’t see any inherent value in having to learn ‘advanced’ video game mechanics. Some players enjoy this, others couldn’t care less.

Also, there simply isn’t enough endgame content to warrant making our existing dungeons any harder. Don’t forget that there’s still quite a few of players who don’t ever to dungeons because of the perceived difficulty.

As is dungeons are moderately challenging and do require some knowledge and skills, and I think this is adequate. Wouldn’t you prefer it if we could have more challenging mechanics in entirely new dungeons?

The game needs more rewarding content and better mob AI.

No, trust me. I pug dungeons daily. It is also common knowledge that most players avoid harder and time consuming dungeon paths, as evidenced by the LFG postings and discussions on the forum.

As for the latter , I agree to an extent. Hard content for good, consistent rewards would probably be well received. However, GW2’s track record for this isn’t very encouraging. Hence my view that we should keep things simple.

This game lacks middle ground

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jahroots.6791

Jahroots.6791

Yeah, there’s definitely a lack of moderate and appropriately rewarding content. Most of the new stuff I’ve seen added in the past year is either a mind-numbing easy mode zerg, or heavily time consuming and gated. Dungeons represent a kind of happy medium imo, we definitely need more content like them: Relatively fast, small group PvE stuff for decent account bound rewards.

Also, considering the minor stat increases (and possibility of getting a combination you have no use for), Ascended weapon and armour drops seem entirely too rare. Also, they’re account bound and un-salvageable. You’d expect them to drop at least half as often as exotics.

Unfortunately, ‘The Economy’. Full stop. That is why we can’t have nice things.

Build and gear template saving idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jahroots.6791

Jahroots.6791

It’s a great idea, although I think separate, pages for gear would work better than carrying all of it in one’s inventory. This potentially provides quite a few benefits for everyone involved.

- Increased economic activity : Transmutation charges and skins from the gem store, gear from the TP.

- Increased cosmetic freedom : Each gear page or template would be transmuted separately, allowing players to store their favourite looks and switch between them instantly.

- Encourages build diversity : Makes it easier for players to experiment with different stat combinations, and playstyles.

There is literally no downside to this, other than the cost and effort required on ANet’s part. A few of us have suggested this in the past, but for the most part the community seems to be comfortable with the current set up (these topics sink to the bottom pretty quickly). Here’s hopin’ though.
