Also looks like they might have listened to all the defiant complaints in that thread and opted for a dumbed down version which locks out the option to coordinate CC to strip stacks for chained stuns.

I still maintain that defiant is fine. They just need to teach players to use it properly. If this is an open world only version of defiant then im fine with the change. Because yeah its terrible implementation when it scales up to 50 stacks on open world stuff.

Ugh. Though I though defiant was a little clunky in that without voice coms and quick communication it’s really really hard to coordinate. If I toss a CC and TeammateA tosses a CC at the same time, boom 2 stacks gone… what if there was only 1 stack, now we start back at the 5 stacks… Of course it’s fine if you simply have one person control it, but that’s basically mes/thief then.

I hate the idea of simply a time locked system like that, but I did think it was imperfect.

Struggling with Hammer guardian in PVE

in Players Helping Players

Jerus.4350

^^ Exactly, what is the problem you’re seeing?

Hammer does have drawbacks, mainly in it’s back loaded damage and light fields. Blasting a light field does very little in PVE which is a pain.

The backloaded damage is kind of the biggest issue in use IMO though, you’re not really rolling at max DPS until you get that field down. In contrast to GS which you’re starting out bursting out a ton of damage and don’t drop till you start autoing.

Hammer is still a strong weapon though.

Basically your have GS/Mace which have strong burst (mace not as much, esp in rotation but for quick burst you can lay the field then swap to another weapon which is very nice)

Hammer/Sword are your solid auto attacks, sword is consistent with any burst coming from the focus skills, and hammer being backloaded and having a ramp up time but then sailing smooth as one of our highest DPS options.

Scepter is just niche in that it isn’t good unless you have to range or if the target is a large hit box.

So generally speaking for fast fights you’ll want to use GS for your damage, for longer fights Hammer becomes a solid option assuming light fields aren’t an issue.

A thing to note though hammer’s abilities can be quite handy, there are situations where immob is really cool to have, and then ring of warding layed down to stop any charging trash mobs can be absolutely amazing. Banish also has it’s niche uses and mighty blow for blasting things like stealth for fire fields before battle.

So what runes/food were you using just as a question of curiosity?

I was running 2/6/0/6/0 (Attack of opportunity does as much as slashing power and I like to spam my F for more fury)
Privateer runes, Birthday cake.

Nice, sorry for not thinking of the WvW boost.

Pretty crazy that you can grab almost 7k more hp just with a few little tweaks and the right time of the week

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jerus.4350

How does the kicking feature still require only 3 out of 5 people to kick? Why isn’t it 4/5 to prevent griefing?

Also, I think you can’t opt to not kick someone? So it just sits there forever, taking up space on your screen, which makes people hit “ok yes please kick this person”.

… isn’t it still 2/5? I know there was a patch implying it would raise to 3/5 but pretty sure it was an ineffective change.

Arah pushing Lupi into wall exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jerus.4350

Thanks for the response,

We just finished Lupi, but with ranging instead.

What determines the technicality of the exploit?

Developer/GM opinion basically. There aren’t such black and white rules.

I’ve seen devs call it an exploit in conversation but, in the PVE dungeon speed run tournament, which ANet has been kind enough to donate prizes to I believe, it was allowed.

Personally I hate it, it’s unfun.

An exploit though is a grey term in itself, it’s basically using unintended mechanics and tools.

If you were to argue this case. Is reflecting lupi like that unintended, pretty obviously yes. However, is anything you’re using working in a way that it isn’t designed to do? No, your reflect is reflecting projectiles, you’re just intelligently placing it to reflect the most it possibly could. So.. yeah grey area.

You know it is perfectly fine for people to want a fast run. What I don’t like is how the more toxic people seem to congregate into these LFGs.

So I join a group as a full-zerker war (it’s my alt set but still all exotics. Only half the trinkets are ascended) running a phalanx strength build. So I am getting psyched to pump out 25 stacks of might to the party when someone goes:
“Are you zerk?”
I reply, “yes”
“Good bye you lied to me. Zerk wars don’t have 25K health.”
And then I was kicked. I blocked that person and then ran another path.

Still annoying though.

Often people mean full damage setup when they write zerk. You had zerk gear but apparently you didn’t have damage runes or food. The 44060 PS build you can get up to 23k without going for defensive gear options. With the more widely accepted as better PS build (05063)you’ll cap out at about 21k

So what runes/food were you using just as a question of curiosity?

As for toxic people… /shrug plenty of them everywhere you look.

Most likely grabbed Great Fortitude which would push you to almost 25k

That’s part of the 44060 build I posted about which is the reason for it’s extra 2k hp. Still off by 2k, only explanation I can htink of would be runes/food or some gear/trinkets/waepons that aren’t zerk?

Is anyone using this SD build? I am messing a little around with it. On the “mist poor golem test guy” seems quite competitive… even without the new confusion damage (10 stacks with concussion bomb and pyr bar).
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdQQFAUlUUpPrlcxmKseNSbBN23sGQeiR81GGAA-ThRBABXt/o8DPdAAcBAy7BAQp6PmpEEA-e

I was messing around with one similar the other day. While it can’t match the vuln or blast potential of the meta it seemed to still pack a punch all while being a bit easier to handle

On a side note, Confusion really isn’t bad anymore… still not sure if using concussion bomb is worth it but pry bar is an easy choice if toolkit is out, and then when I use pistol/shield on lupi I’ll toss in the static shot now and then in rotation. It’s not bad.

Damage builds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jerus.4350

Jerus.4350

^^ Thad summed it up well. PVT gear is an option. Defensive builds are an option. Pretty much you can go a lot of directions sacrificing damage for defense. The only thing I strait up would not sacrifice for damage is group supporting tools. Namely blinds/reflects for your group and maybe some condi cleansing too.

Ranger has a neat Greatsword, it has a block on there which is cool though timing a block isn’t really any easier than a dodge. BUT, the big thing is that your 3rd auto evades for you… you have a chance to simply evade an attack by accident without even trying! it’s cool Aside from that you have your longbow. You can bring quite a few different utilities including Signet of Stone for invulnerability.

Necromancer is also not bad with DS being able to absorb a lot of damage, when you’re under stressful fire you can always use that and auto attack within it till the threat is over then drop out and build lifeforce back up.

You also could go warrior, check out Wooden Potatoes tank video, he takes a nomad warrior and just laughs at stuff… of course you do almost 0 damage so it’s basically just leaching off the work everyone else is doing and that’s not fun or cool. But there’s that and then being a part of every speed run, so it scales between the two sides and in every sense you have a lot of passive defense to act as a safety net for failing to actively defend yourself.

Troll kicks solution.

We don’t even have a real player to player trade system. I don’t think they will add a special feature only for people sell dungeons, specially because it is not a supported feature.

HUGE HUGE difference there.

The player to player trade system isn’t there for a reason, the TP gets the job done just fine, the only “problem” people are trying to avoid with trading is the fees which are there for a reason. It combats inflation and keeps the economy stable by bleeding pure gold from it.

The group system in this game is just terrible though, there is no reason it is what it is over something else. They just made something and don’t care if it’s crap. I mean they least they could do is make the LFG not automatically place you in groups but instead have you go up for acceptance just like if I were to /join. That alone would do a heck of a lot to combat dungeon stealing as well as avoid the need for instantly kicking people who ignore messages whatever they are. For kicking simply requiring a majority and having an option for everyone to vote so 2 people could counter the other 2 people… that would be huge. But even these simple things we simply arne’t getting

Side note for all the people who say that Staff has the highest DPS in the game: it is true (I TCed it myself!), but it is only applicable when your enemy does not move much, when you have access to the required buffs, and when you do not need to do anything else but damage. Technically, that is very niche.

Well that’s pretty good in PvE since you can lock down enemies so they don’t move much. And its pretty good to support a node in sPvP, ppl have to take you attack, waste their defense or get out of the node. But its just not that good in solo or in pvp fight out of a node. All weapons have its purpose, we don’t want them to all have the same strength.

It surely makes things easier but in general go with power/precision/ferocity type stuff, GS/Sword+Focus as weapons it’ll give you the most mobility and quickest kills. Learn to dodge and you’ll survive just fine. When leveling quick kills REALLY help as does being able to move through the map.

2 tricks to learn is GS you can use the 3 skill and leap ahead, if there are mobs you can weapon swap to prevent the damage portion and stay out of combat for faster running

Sword2 will leap towards a target you can target something far off leap towards it then click somewhere else to detarget and you’ve just moved forward with no reprocussions like getting in combat.

I can very much get behind that last sentence. I just really don’t want to have GW2 turn into the same feeling I get in other MMOs where it’s like “kitten… I can’t even do this because I took a couple months off and now I’m behind a months work in older content people aren’t doing as often” That’s my fear and why the entire idea of vertical progression annoys me, because again that’s one of the big things I love about this game is the escape from that.

This is horizontal progression, as horizontal as creating a vertical progression graphic then asking people to lie down on their side and watch it again.
Well anyway we still don’t know how much time it will be required to collect points, but when they said they see this system as a long term goal I can’t help worrying about it.

See I don’t get this. What is worrying about something taking a long time.

People play MMOs to be there a long time. If there are no long term goals, then people stop playing. Not all people but enough people. If enough people stop playing, there is no MMO and you have to find another one.

All any MMO ever is is a list of things to do. Guild Wars 1 was even like that. Once there’s nothing left to do, people leave.

You stay with or leave an MMO based on how much you like the list of things to do.

That’s the beauty of GW2 currently though. If I had quit 6 months ago and came back today the only thing I could be missing are some styles, no functional power. So I could hop in and play with my friends on whatever they are working on without having to jump through hoops first.

I tried dabbling in one of my other games a little bit back, I simply couldn’t care enough to spend a month farming to catch up.

Of course the devil’s in the details, we’ll see what these mastery’s have in store. But artificially locking content through months of farming… what happened to the “this game isn’t grindy”, at least we now know why they emphasized that so much in their presentation, they knew they were going to get called out on it.

Policy on the LFG Tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jerus.4350

Jerus.4350

The LFG (Looking for Group) Tool is intended to be used to help put together a group to enjoy game content, such as Open World, Fractals of the Mists, or PvP. Over the last several weeks players have expressed increased concern about abuse of the LFG Tool as a growing number of individuals have begun using the LFG Tool to advertise the sale of in-game items.

Clearly, if a group-formation tool is flooded with item sales and trade messages, it will be difficult for players to use it for its intended purpose. Beyond that, trades and sales initiated in the tool are at high risk for scams. While our Customer Support Team will take action on the accounts of players who engage in scams and other disallowed activities, they generally will not be able to replace items of players who fall victim to these unscrupulous individuals.

Our policy: Players may use the LFG Tool only for the formation of a group.

Players may use the tool to sell a spot in a group, but they may not use it to sell or trade items or for any other unintended purposes. Doing so will result in an account infraction.

You can help us reduce the spam and refocus the tool by reporting individuals who are misusing the LFG Tool. Simply click on the name of that player in your chat window, right click, choose “Report,” and then choose “LFG System Abuse.” With your help we’ll be able to keep the LFG Tool clear for your use in forming groups.

Curious, will the reports lead to anything more than the gentle wrist slap that people who have been abusing the LFG tool to grief people and steal dungeons have gotten?

Sorry… don’t mean to hate on ya Gaile, just very disheartening seeing people walking around Lions Arch who have gotten away with griefing dozens of people over quite a period of time and even having Chris Cleary post that he was “dealt with”.

And if that’s the kind of treatment you get for abusing the LFG, what is there to fear?

If it works, it will be a very low-impact way to gate content and to let people decide what kind of direction they want to take with their unlocks. It’s a customization track.

I’m curious how you define “very low-impact”

Really sounds like they’re either going to be vertical progression or a gating device. In either case can’t say I’m excited at all about them. My skeptical pessimistic self even wonders if their need to make this means the amount of actual content is quite slim, if they’re spending all those resources to slow us down.

Of course they go into slippery terrain Jerus. That mastery thing could be a huge flop. What if you can hardly fight mobs in some of the new maps and mastery give you more resistance and more dmg against them. That’s would be pure vertical grind progression.

But if they go like Windsagio said, more toward a metroid kind of progression or even like Zela, then it could be a lot of fun. Special tools that allow you to gain access to new part of the region or that can be used with some special mechanic to defeat bosses.

Thing is it’s still a time sink where you’re grinding trying to unlock something so you can go see more content. Not that time sinks are necessarily bad, but it’s just… yeah… we’ll see how it goes…

Great post. They’re introducing Vertical progression while being hesitant about admitting it.

Personally one of the things I love so much (and was even discussing with a friend last night) about GW2 is the fact that it doesn’t have that vertical progression. The fact that the game is about content, styles, and just having fun. Grinding and working on things are there if you want to do it but there’s no hand on your back pushing you to do it only carrots that I can choose to go after or not.

Getting a legendary or even ascended didn’t make or break me, it was done to give a little bump or just for a cool style.

I fear these masterys will become a grindy time sink that you have to go through just to enjoy the content at the end of the expansion… in other words it sounds like they’ve gotten away from one of the beautiful aspects of GW2 and has gone the way of other MMOs.

I really don’t think it will be power creep Jerus (Or at least I really hope it won’t lol).

Specific mastery that we know of are learning a new languages, gliding, jumping from mushroom, gaining access to new reward, etc.

Total speculation on my part but here some possibilities of Fractal Masteries

- Unlocking new recipe to upgrade infusion. Right now, crafting +5 is easy, crafting +8 is hard, crafting +10 is stupid. Maybe a new recipe will make crafting +10 and +15 more accessible so we can do higher level of fractal.
- Unlocking new skills that allow you to go through some higher level instability.
- Unlocking new collections and rewards.

Reread their list.

-Master Lore: Attunement with new ally races can be trained to understand their language, unlocking secret locations and access to battle techniques that can weaken your shared enemies.

Does that not sound like you’ll get some debuff to them, essentially giving the player more power… aka power creep.

-Master Combat: The Heart of Maguuma will be home to some of the most challenging combat in Guild Wars 2, and Masteries will give you the tools you need to excel in these fights. Hunt new enemies, master abilities to defeat champions, and become more deadly against the new creatures waiting in the jungle.

This set of systems is vertical progression from what I’m reading today. Whether that will be true in fractals… we’ll see.

“Uncover new depths” could be shiny flavor text or could mean that they’re finally adding levels.

don’t really care about more rewards if there aren’t actual new fractals themselves.

but my expectations are basically zero, so I’m not leaving myself any room to be disappointed.

Very true, sorry, it was like 2AM and after a bit of whiskey >.<

Funny you mention it, in a fotm 29 atm, they wanted to and did bug Mossman :/

It’s unfortunate that they exist but at the same time he’s brutal enough that I can understand it. I’m still trying to master him myself. Love chill, immob and reflects on him though.

I managed to assemble a decent shout/symbol support build based around using the staff and hammer that I’ve used successfully since launch.
The hammer offers nice control for veterans
while the staff gives some crowd damage and just enough distance from champions to feel comfortable.

I also keep “Retreat”, Merciful Intervention, and Contemplation of Purity on, unless I need to break more stuns in which case I replace “Retreat” with “Save Yourselves”. I also utilize Renewed Focus so I can further buff my allies and myself with my virtues.

2 Zeal – Shattered Aegis
6 Valor – Strength in Numbers, Meditation Mastery, Altruistic Healing
6 Honor – Pure of Heart, Writ of the Merciful, Pure of Voice

Occasionally I will respec on the spot if the party needs to be more spread out than I can effectively support, but even then I keep my hammer and a few other details so I can still intervene if someone needs backup.

I mean no offense, but you’re leaving a lot on the table unused.

Master of Consecrations is simply an overpowered trait when it’s useful. Not only is it lowered reuse it’s also a longer duration! The effect on Wall of Reflection alone makes it almost a must have is many situations.

That is why I think flexibility and learning where to adjust your build for different situations is so effective. While your build may be solid in many situations when you really benefit from say a reflect you’re sitting with nothing let alone a fully buffed up rotation of them.

And just a side note, a well timed Stand your Ground or Hallowed grounds can nullify any need for stun breaks for your entire group! not something to overlook

I now pronounce Jerus as the new master of TL;DR mojo.

While I admit it’s probably not worth reading, TL, really? you don’t even have to scroll!

Meant it more as a compliment for being able to condense a thread worth of drama into a small enough post for me to read trough with my limited attention span.

Ahh well thanks hehe, it’s my drunken late night rambling but sums it up without any unnecessary additions to the drama I think. Love you all even if the drama entertains me… and I hate kicking in general but that’s just me and I understand it’s merely my opinion

If you’re going to put your hope into something instanced it’ll likely be fractals, so get your AR ready and work on those… god I hate the RNG though.

If you’re gonna go precision go with Ranger runes and run a mini pet. 7% constant damage instead of under 50% and 6%. Though with healing turret you can heal so much that maintaining 90% isn’t that hard, personally I’m usually either dead or above 90%

Take out the maintenance oil and go with say lifesteal food (such a great food) and with Exotics you’re down to 71%( 72% with ascended). So boom you’re back in the golden “not being wasteful when buffed” zone.

I’m sure there are some solid trait setups like that for every profession.

Exactly my thoughts, except for ele I cant really think anything for that, well anything that would really save them. But those trait setups need to be better known.

Outside of going full PVT nothing will really save them from much. My buddies and I use to use Valkyrie but it wasn’t long till I was convinced that didn’t really make enough of a difference to really be worth it, better to just dive head first into zerk and learn to actively defend yourself.

Of course as I understand it a rare set of armor will be fine in most dungeons to start so that could always be a cheap starting option and move to exotic zerk once you learn the mechanics. Really though the biggest thing you could do is join NOOB or one of the guilds open to training people (ARES ) and have someone teach you and explain the fights so you can more easily learn what to do.

For Ele it’d probably be easier to start and level a Warrior just to learn mechanics then convert back to Ele once you master. Easier than even a PVT ele that is.

What did I miss ?

PlayerA: I got kicked for watching Cutscenes at the final boss when asked not to watch cutscenes
Group A: You deserved it for kittening off your groupmates
Group B: that sucks, i’m sorry you went through that
Player B: What the hell is wrong with you group A guys?
Player C: Dude went against the group and got kicked, he deserved it
Player B: Player C what happened to you? I expected different from you
Player D : Why does something have to be wrong with player C, they disobeyed the group screw player A
Player B: I expect more compassion from player C, why do you have to be a jerk player D?
Player E and F: You’re a jerk player B
Player B: what’s up with all the guild presence defending player D?
Player C: yeah sucks he got kicked at the end but he was being a jerk to his group
Group A: he deserved it
Group B: he didn’t deserve it at the end of a dungeon
Group A: ok, yeah at the end is kinda a kitten move but he still was a jerk to his group so he deserved it

About sums it up from what I read /shrug Though the summary doesn’t really do justice to the juicy drama

Skate venom, Harpy feathers, whispers and ash legion kits. Rest is just fluff and overkill that can be achieved with proper usage of class skills.

Bandit potions work on Cliffside, but yeah generally potions you might alraedy have for dungeons, if not skale venom is a good options (weakness is nice and vuln is always good).
