Curious, why?

blah /15char

The color and music notes scream mesmer to me. It is kind of nice though maybe I’ll make it

I guess I see ya there, just never hit me that way. I only got it because of playing a bard in EQ for YEARS, so I had to get it. My Mesmer is a bit silly looking the way it does, and he still uses Ambrosia (norn!). I’d still rank Minstrel as my third favorite focus, my favorites being Ambrosia and Courage… much cheaper options

I do think it’d fit your gold scheme. And who says Music can’t be what triggers your control of the elements? In fact in a book series I’ve read “Incarnations of Immortality” a lady who plays a harp becomes Mother Nature and controls the elements through playing that harp…

Remember, Healing signet takes the spot of a healing skill. So where warriors are leaning on their passive regen from the signet a guardian has Shelter, which acts in two ways, a block and a heal (there are others but are more situational overall) The block is a HUGE thing.

The block leads in to the other reason guards are so powerful defensively, active defense. Between Blinds, reflects and Blocks (including Aegis) guardian has a nice advantage in that category. Now Warrior has some blocks, and whirlwind for extra evasion, you really can’t forget the power that blinds have or the power of a skill like Wall of Reflection.

If you’re looking at mainly WvW, yes there is certainly power in that ball of meat that a warrior is, but, I ask you, what do you see people wanting more of? I know in my old guild we ran 1 war, 2 guards, 2 necros in the “frontline” group. Sure Warriors have the passive ability to soak up damage, but that’s not what this game is about, this game highly relies on active defenses. When engaging Dodges are your first line of defense, Applying blinds if people screw up is another thing that has major impacts, that fails, we have shelter to weather the storm. As we wade through the combat we’ll gather up and heal, how? Blasting water fields and Guardian Empower! The actions and skill use has guardians in a fine spot, if not already a bit OP in that realm of team oriented WvW.

Guardians may lack as far as a passive basis is concerned but the active abilities of a guardian make it one of the toughest things around. I somewhat agree with your statement that it wouldn’t “extremely out balance it” but only in the sense that I don’t think it’d have a major impact either way, guardians would still be tough SoB’s with a low HP pool such that if you get caught you’re going down. Where I think it might have an issue though is in smaller skirmishes in the PVP realm (including WvW roaming) where you have slower kills allowing that passive regen to really take hold. In PVE… well a good guardian likely wouldn’t see much difference as you don’t get touched often thanks to blinds/blocks/reflects/dodges

Waiting for Yaks Bend to lose in WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I am playing on Yaks Bend.

Yak’s losing would not help them take red garrison, in fact quite the opposite! But the colors do rotate, they do not depend on whether you won or lost the week before.

False.

1st = green
2nd = blue
3rd = red

Always.

Then how do you explain Yak’s being blue this week since they won last week?

If I understand it correctly there is an addition of RNG added to the system that allows for some variety. This is what explains the changes. In theory it would allow YB to actually jump to t1 if they got a high roll and the 3rd rank t1 server got a low roll, assuming the overall scores were close enough (I don’t follow it enough to know).

That said I had the same issue on BG not that long ago, we were ranked 2nd in overall scoring but could not get lucky enough to get green, TC who was ranked 3rd actually bumped up during that time but we never did. In the end I was lucky enough to take the garrison I needed to finish 2 weeks before the season hit and we then got green a few times and I actually finished completion on a second character during that.

To the OP your best bet is to capture the garrison, I know it’s tough. Second option is to hope for the luck of RNG to get you into the right color. If all that fails seasons act outside of the normal scope and you may see the color more often there though that’s going to vary depending on your success and how the math works out.

Ok. I am completely confused now. I had traits at 6/4/0/4/0, with the trait items set at anything that would increase burning duration or similar.

Why did it make such a huge difference when I switched to the 6/6/2/0/0 V,VII,XI/VI,X,XII/VI ?

I mean, the difference is HUGE (to me). I was using scepter dagger, so switching to d/d wasn’t that much of a change, but …why is such a simple change doing so much better?

Scepter is a burst damage weapon and the auto attacks are quite pathetic. Dagger’s autos are very decent.

You’ve changed to the power based dagger build where you really can pretty much lightning whip everything. Ideally rotating between attuenment to hit other big damagers and stack might then upon swapping back to air you get a large hit from the GM minor in your Air trait tree.

Builds are a big deal in this game, it may not seem like a major change to you but you shored up multiple areas.

God, I hate people.

Amen.

Kicks I’ve seen are for following reasons:

1. LFG says experienced. After we wipe on part X, two of the people admit to being first timers; kicked. I don’t mind running new peeps through paths, but not those who can’t read.

2. Being Mouthy.

3. Dungeon Switchers – Switch at the end at your own risk.

4. AFK/Late -shows – We aren’t going to 4-man 3/4 of the dungeon and have you show up at the last minute. When we go in, you go in. Or you get kicked. Even if we need a 5th person for last boss; guarantee it won’t be you.

“Being Mouthy”? It’s a common thread in the discussion, why do people hate folks that talk so much? I’m, if nothing else a chatterbox in runs, people seem so dour ><

There’s being talkative and being mouthy. Being mouthy generally goes with being a kitten. In general I agree though most PUGs hate communicating, even if it’s simply asking what banner they’re using.

Look up some of the PVE DPS stuff, if you learn that, you can just destroy things. Specifically I’d suggest Dagger/Focus. Do your might rotation, whip it with lightning, and things fall over like they’re nothing. Condition damage isn’t all that great, especially for killing things that have lower hp as it takes a while to ramp up to full damage potential. Being an Ele you’re always going to be on the squishier side but learning to use the defensive tools you have you can avoid most damage.

If a rule is broken it’d be pretty obvious right? I mean “he used a hylek pot” “there’s a minipet” ""He double walled" “Lupi has defiance stacks” whatever the rules are it should be black and white right? Are there any grey area rules?

Shouldn’t it just take someone watching it through once, not seeing anything “ok approved” If someone comes along 2 days later and goes “Hey they broke ruleX at 4:05” it shouldn’t be disputable should it? Maybe i’m just far too nonchalant about it but it doesn’t seem like it should require all this talk.

Thing about medkit is yeah you could trait it for might, it does have the bags, but… Turret can be used to blast a fire field for 20s of 3 stacks of might. It can be used to create a water field which you can blast with detonate as well as the other blasts/leaps we have for even more healing. In the end Turret is just too kitten good to not use.

For PVP/WvW… Retailiation is the answer you’re looking for. FT’s 1 skill is multiple hits, each hit causing retaliation damage will have you killing yourself. This is especially true against multiple opponents in WvW.

PVE… it’s not bad, just not optimal, though using it as a swap for flame blast/napalm/toolbelt skill is great, it’s just not a main kit in an optimal setting.

Jerus.4350

Engi without kits won’t be max level dps, simple as that. Can you still be effective though, sure.

Engi’s DPS simply comes from big damage tools spread across multiple kits. Elixir gun has your Acid Bomb. Grenades has your shrapnel and freeze grenade as well as a solid 1 skill. Flamethrower has Flame Blast/Detonate(as well as a fire field to blast for might). Bombs has your highest damage 1 skill. Even toolkit has prybar which isn’t bad.

The idea to maximize engi dps is to rotate through the kits and land your big damage attacks.

Again though, you can be effective with other things, the utility and buffing of elixirs can be quite potent. Turrets are a lower damage but passive consistent damage. So I don’t think you need to feel confined to kits but just realize that they are the top damage and why.

Turrets in PVE are generally a bad idea, if things have particularly nasty attacks that you will just dodge the turret will eat the damage and likely be destroyed. AI in PVE is pretty bad and not a good idea to rely on. Again though, doesn’t mean you can’t, just that it won’t be optimal.

I can understand gemstore consumables because they may not be available to everyone. And map glitching like hell would cause controversity. Im still of the opinion that the current rules are a bit too restrictive. They stopped the jumping over CoE doors and other similar tactics which actually made things quite interesting.

I can agree with this. But, with the restrictions currently there, I think it’s lame that some things are allowed while others are not.

Engi/Mesmer meta is both assassin. Mesmer due to reflects and Engi due to both damage potential math and “on crit” abilities. IIRC Guard and Ele both have setups where assassins gear is optimal (on guard I think it’s only partially).

GW2 is far from the only game to use one shots. One shots are actually more important in other games IMO. They are what keeps people having to play well instead of fully leaning on the healers to simply heal them out of any trouble. In EQ we had emotes prompting you to do different things, (run away, look away, duck, etc), and DCUO we had things that we would have to dodge (no dodge button but there was a roll).

GW2 doesn’t have healers though, so our defensive options need strength, unless this is to become a game where it’s more about healing yourself than actively avoiding damage… which honestly, it can be… Take a look at this, even Lupis “one shots” can be made to not be that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKO11Y55DTM.

Making Blinds and Blocks not fully block damage would literally destroy the combat that I love about this game.

SQ didn’t use to use poison fields in melee range, it had NOTHING to do with the walls, as I said, there are melee and range attacks on NPCs, if you’re at range you get the range attacks, if in melee you get the melee, then some attacks are both and you’ll get them in either. SQ was changed not due to a bug but because of the constant complaints by people who didn’t understand the game mechanics.

For example, Lupi’s kick will not trigger if you are at range, and his bubble will not trigger if you’re in melee… which answers your other “example”.

If you want an example of where a wall will prevent an attack, Lupi’s Rapid Fire in phase 3 will not trigger if he’s on the wall… again that’s literally the only one I can think of.

Nothing is stopping range fighting in most places. It’s simply easy, boring, and usually takes longer due to lower dps so people don’t want to do it. I’ve done Lupi ranged… it was terrible and I never want to do it again.

Guardian shield. Never have I seen so much potential in a defensive weapon and yet be completely unable to utilize it. Due to the situations it is useful being such that you cant take advantage of it because the effects either dont last long enough or simply arent ENOUGH to actually make a difference.

I echo this sentiment. And still I wonder why shield on guardian is so poorly thought out.

Try being a warrior. The cool downs on the skill are so long they make them one shot deals in most fights.

atleast your one shot deals DO something.

Again, 2/24…

As for the rest, I just have to say I disagree on just about everything but the comments on Conditions (which to my knowledge are only good in PVE for a few professions in solo settings).

I will point out, that you seem to understand that teamwork is available and is good in this game, it’s simply that PUGs don’t take part in it. I’d like to highlight that last part, why do you think PUGs don’t utilize these advantages that we can gain through teamwork (defiance stripping, reflect rotations, stealth, etc)? It’s simply because PUGs don’t like to communicate, so any changes that would require more talking… how popular do you think it’ll be?

What bosses don’t use skills if you stack btw? I know Lupi won’t use his Rapid Fire if you wall him, but what others? I know there are some bosses that have melee and range attacks and will use whichever the situation demands, but that’s not the same thing.

The only problem with control is that with how defiance is set up it really requires good communication. If you watch the videos of premade groups they utilize it quite well, if anything close to that was possible in a less organized group with less communication then control wouldn’t be viewed so negatively.

As far as Support… /shrug, look at most trinity games. 1 heal,1 tank, rest dps, so yeah…

As far as the reply in general… I’d have to argue the opposite. The idea that people enjoy the current setup is exactly why major changes shouldn’t happen. Now some new content with altered AI and what not, that coudl be cool. But nothing kittenes off a player base more than massive changes to the current gameplay. Look at SWG NGE if you want the prime example.

And personally I think blinds are possibly a bit overkill, but mainly just thief’s, the rest are more like blocks… you can’t block everything. Active defense is what makes this game fun, if you play correctly you can really do well. It’s not about wearing the right gear but having enough skill.

Mesmers are part of almost every record run, and if we’re not talking record runs then engi and rangers both have spots if properly played.

Again though, Warden’s feedback is the key support trait on mesmer, also far reaching manipulations to get some of the portal tricks done more efficiently. Even Harmonious Mantras at times could be fitting, though I don’t think it’s generally meta.

Also, Subject alpha isn’t stacked in Meta runs, maybe PUG runs, but path1 it’s very dumb to stacks, and path 2/3 you’re going to save time by simply rushing in and killing, especially the second spawn.

What’s this now? Axe+Mace are most certainly part of the warrior PvE meta.

That’s for the vuln stacking/utility. So if your group has say an engi or ele you may not even care about swapping to them and simply stick with the GS.

Axe is higher dps than gs

Yeah, my bad, I was thinking old info from before the most recent GS nerf, where GS camping was highest dps but you lost your vuln, making axe/mace typically better. Now of course you’re probably right that swapping is ideal.

And I assume you’re just talking about the auto attacks right? because GS skills still hit plenty hard that I’d have trouble beleiving that it shifted that much.

Swipe, dodge
p3:
Single target suck, 4 hits, Double dodge or dodge + Focus5/shelter/focused renewal, I’m not sure if you can time shelter to last through all 4 ticks but might be able to and even if not you should have enough hp after to survive a single tick.

Lift, dodge back + Focus5/shelter/focused renewal, if none are up you can double dodge out

Rapid fire, you can put him on the wall to avoid it, or WoR and then dodges/blocks like normal if WoR isn’t up … personally I haven’t gotten him off the wall yet

As oxtred said having 1 in honor is nice for the vigor trait. I think I was doing 66020 with shout recharge and focus recharge traits differing from what Oxtred said above. May not be the best but it worked quite well.

Aye, the direct effect would be stabilizing precursor prices initially, but that would send ripples through the economy. Like was pointed out, what about rare/exotic prices on the TP? Mithril Prices?

Meh, people are gamblers. Currently they have 2 guaranteed ways to get a pre:

1. Buy gems with real money, convert to gold, buy from TP.
2. Farm gold, buy from TP.

Yet people still try for the RNG. They still think they can beat market prices and that’s why so many people throw tons of rares/exotics in the forge.

Why would they discontinue their gambling if pres were introduced to the gem store?

It wouldn’t stop, simply saying that if the pre’s took any kind of price cut in the suggested new system that it would have effects on other things notably the rare/exotics and the components to make them.

Guys, seriously, think about it. $10=800 gems=X gold. Precursor costs Y gold. Z is the some factor you can multiple X by to get Y. So, Z units of $10=Z units of 800 gems=Z units of X Gold = precursor.

YOU CAN ALREADY BUY A PRECURSOR WITH REAL MONEY.

Yes you can, but thats not the point. Making something that was obtainable in game, and with in game currency, available ONLY through payment of real currency is just a terrible idea. Yeah it would increase gem sales, but destroy the precursor market on the TP, which in turn would cause a significant loss of a valued gold sink. I believe such a loss would also effect the prices of mats, and have far reaching negative effect on the economy as a whole.

Are you forgetting Gold->Gem conversion?

Not saying I support the OP’s idea, but seriously people remember there is a Gold->Gem and Gem->Gold conversion…

Ok look at it this way.
More people farm gold and convert to gems. Prices of gems skyrockets. There will be less people convert gems to gold, which help keep gem prices down. Also, the rare/exotic weapon markets fall. No one is buying them to throw in the Mystic forge to get a precursor. Which in turn causes the mat prices to fall (for a time as there is less demand), as no one is crafting rare/exotic weapons to sell. There is now a significant gold sink (TP fees for buying and selling mats and weapons) lost. Which means there is more gold in-game which leads to inflation of gold. Which has an effect on ALL prices of everything on the TP. Which in turn leads to prices being higher as there is more gold in circulation. Now the prices COULD balance out eventually, IF the amount of gold going into gem conversion is equal to the amount of gold removed through the game through TP transactions.

However, I am sure there are people who are much more qualified to speculate on the market better than I can on this matter, but thats how I see it happening.

Again, not in support of the OP’s idea. I simply think people forget about conversion too often. As Nevets has been pointing out, you can already buy Pre’s with gems… you simply have to convert them into gold…

Undead Slaying/Force in your GS, Bloodlust in your axe or mace with Undead or Force in the other. At least that’s what I would do and I assume what Miku did/does.

Most Hated Weapon in the game?

scepters, they are pretty much the most useless weapon of the game regardless of profession, if it doesn’t lack damage it lacks useful skills.
i would go as far as saying that if one weapon needs a complete overhaul for every profession it’s the scepter.

Um… Well Guard scepter has the potential to be the highest damage weapon if the target is large enough to take all the hits from smite.

Ele Scepter is solid weapon with good burst damage and lots of blasts making for good might stacking, though typically combined with LH once the stacking and burst is done.

On Topic… The 3 surfboards annoy me. I think the effects are cool, I love that when you wave them it creates a scene, I hate the look of the swords themselves though. If they could somehow do the same effects but on say Bonetti’s Rapier… omg best sword in any game ever. But as it stands… no… (summons comicbook guy) worst swords ever!

( Focus 5 is a dps gain, shield 4 isn’t- not like I care, just saying)

Isn’t focus4 also with it’s bounces or am I mistaken? Seems like plenty damage.

I will say, what bugs me isn’t so much the glitching, but the fact that people refuse to be open that they are going to do it. If people would simply put “WoR Lupi” or something like that I’d know to avoid that group, but now I just have to ask as soon as I enter and there is a guardian in the group.

I understand why people glitch things, but I simply don’t want to be a part of it when fighting Lupi is the main reason I run Arah.

If plan is to leave anyway you could always take Sigil of Paralyzation and interrupt Lupicus.

I may just have to start doing that.

Lupi and I have some things to work out still, that’s about the only thing I do in game now.
