I’ve gone for P/T/V armor (from AC) to balance out some of our squishiness. This works well in 1v1 and 1v2, but you still cannot go up against more. than that. Still running berserker trinkets and weapons, which nets me 16k HP and ~2500 armor and with trait points, my attack is over 3100. The major hit is crit chance and damage which is only around 31% and 60% respectively.

This is why most MMO’s do 1 boring content update every 6 months. When they try to do something fun and exciting a small group of people just have to go and ruin it for everyone.

Sooo went from 40% to 25% now….

The percentage does not matter. It could be 1%, but the fact remains, a one time event that left a large chunk of the world at a disadvantage, allowed others to get those items via the 1% RNG factor.

I would guess in a dungeon or a world boss chest, there would be two treasure tables. One used to determine level/type of item and the other to determine the item. It seems in Lost Shores, the first treasure table was done away with and everyone automatically got exotics (which then allowed the 1% precursor win factor).

Not good planning on Anet’s behalf really.

Hate to be the one to break this to you friendo, but you don’t have hundreds of thousands of friends… and if you did, you’d never manage to pull of your seemingly magnificent feat of organisational prowess you clearly have when organising a trip to the local cinema with the lads.

These aren’t comparable. Anet can’t manipulate time.

No, but they can create instances across the weekend for the various timezones and account lockout those that have participated in the event. Everyone gets an opportunity then, and ‘realism’ is maintained.

Anet managed this for years in GW1 and CoH. No reason they cannot now.

Disagree. A thief already has to us a weapon skill using half their initiative, a utility or a trait to achieve stealth. It’s a bit rich asking to use more initatove to actually hit something on top of all that.

-When damaged in stealth, you should become slightly visible(as if you are still 90% in stealth, with no name appear)

Disagree. There are AoE effects that hit the entire area of Shadow Refuge. Other stealth only last 3 seconds. If the first point in your post is addressed, this request becomes mostly redundant anyway.

-when you use any of your weapon abilities while in stealth, stealth should break, even if your attack is missed, or blocked, or evaded.

Blocked or evaded, yes. A miss, no.

That will then justify the raw damage this class can easily perform.

The class already has the lowest health and only medium armor, while in some regards being kittened by the initiative system. I don’t think too much needs to be done to ‘justify’ the burst damage. That is what Anet want the class capable of afertall.

Actually, you don’t have to go burst, condition, or a balance between both. What ever happened to pure damage based DPS builds like the one’s that many people run with S/D? For example, I run a 0/30/20/20/0 build which has no “burst” to speak of, and no condition damage either. It’s a balanced DPS build which, quite frankly, would be ridiculouslyly OP with “Assassin Training”.

I can’t tell if this a troll or a joke. There is no pure dps build on a thief not involving crit or cond , period.

He’s pointing out that you can run a power/crit build without necessarily using a burst play style. Burst is not synonymous with power-based damage, afterall.

And I can 100% guarantee it won’t be a viable build at killing anything other then 100% afks if it runs Just Power and not crit. If it is crit based, with the scaling of Crit damage, no matter what he is going to be doing burst with the hardest hitting attack in the weaponset.

Maybe he is playing a different game and doesn’t know what forums this is. The attack animations/attack speed in this game (at least for this archetype) are crazy slow (barring quickness ofc), compared to other games. Add that to the unnaturally limiting initiative system (slow regen too), there is 0% chance for Power only DPS

The 14 kills / 5 deaths I got on my power thief using P/P and Shortbow last night in two hours of WvW says otherwise. Sure, I still have ~45% crit rate, but I don’t backstab, I don’t pistolwhip and I don’t use assassins signet. I just wear people down with pure DPS while dodging and breaking combat with stealth when needed.

I’ve also seen screenies of Kill Shot hitting for 31k. Unlike a lot of other thieves, I’m not overly concerned with BS being ‘tweaked’, but I really wish as much attention would get paid to other similar one shot skills.

I primarily use P/P for dungeons or champions/bosses in Orr. The set definitely needs some love in that there is no escape mechanism associated with the attacks. A cripple on body shot would help fill this role rather nicely.

Another condition such as weakness would be handy on unload also. As it is, it’s pure spam as the thief tries to spike for damage.

I’m in two minds about buffing headshot though. It is powerful, but I could see some extra utility such as a shadowstep 300 backwards as fitting right into the skill. Daze the victim and get out of there!

They need to seriously reconsider the whole initiative mechanic. It is so bad and completely goes against every other ability precedent in the game. Just admit it seemed like a better idea on paper and turned out terrible in execution. Round the class with set cooldowns rather than spamming as much burst as possible and make the class more fun to play.

I get so tired of this argument.

A thief with a full bar of initiative can ‘spam’ three or four attacks AT MOST before running out and having to wait for regeneration or using utilities to augment their initiative. People perceive this as spam, as a thief can use the same attack several times in a row.

Lets compare this to other classes. Four attacks, swap weapons, four attacks. A total of eight attacks in the time a thief can get off three or four, maybe five if they have regenerated enough initiative.

Additionally, Anet have stated they want the thief to be a mobile burst class.

An audio cue prior to the visual cue would be quite handy. My reasoning, playing through AC the other night with 5 Australians, and the half second lag we all had that night was just a disaster with Kholer. We would see the visual clue, and either dodge or use LoS to break. However, due to the lag we would be too late and get pulled anyway (through pillars or mid dodge) anf the get dead.

Other times I’ve played through the dungeon and not had any problems, so it is only at certain times the lag get too much to dodge on a visual cue only.

Actually, the ele can do that to 5 people at a time.

The backstab burst build has an easy fix. Tone done Assassin Signet or remove the ability to shadowstep/steal while CnD is casting. Problems solved and people still have their backstab builds. Just makes landing a backstab harder for them.

Given the lack of AoE on pistols, I would love to see this come about. Maybe on unload only if people are concerned about coupling bleed and an AoE effect.

I joined Lion’s Arch Irregulars a little while ago, and I must say I am rather impressed. If you’re looking for a more mature guild but still love to have some fun, I heartily suggest checking the guild website out and putting in an application. Definitely one of the better guilds I’ve been involved in in almost 20 years of gaming!

Winterds, your posts still actually do not address these ‘design’ issues you keep bringing up.

-Story mode makes it hard to find groups – this has nothing to do with dungeons and is more about the social aspects of MMOs.
-The reduced rewards in Exp mode makes it hard to find groups – I assume you mean diminishing returns? Basically someone has to run all three paths before diminishing returns kick in. So you’re saying everyone else on every server has run the dungeon 3 times in a 24 hour period and you can’t find a group? Refer to the above social aspects comment.
-Griefing has nothing to do with dungeon design and more to do with people. Refer to the above social aspects comment.
-Tokens not scaling properly is a bug issue and not a design issue.
-Trash is 10x harder than bosses? Really? I think you’re mistaking numbers of mobs for difficulty – learn to love AOEs. A party issue rather than a design issue.
-Sidekicking does not work properly? Maybe there is a bug here, I’m not sure. I’ve personally never encountered this issue.

Please also don’t bother comparing the game to WoW. They are separate games and these comments coupled with your passive aggressive threats to leave GW to go back to WoW really makes you seem a trolling fanboy.

If you have true issues about design. post them. If you have ideas on how to ‘fix’ dungeons, post them in the suggestions thread

No. Please read. In general, dungeons are poorly designed. THE TITLE is called “your dungeons are killing it for PVer’s”, i am totally unhappy and disappointed with dungeons in general and THEY ADDED another problem to the dungeons by making the badges only drop at the end. Guy come on, some people PUG dungeons, it’s just a part of the game, by saying only do dungeons with guildies is a major design flaw.

Your original post contained nothing about GW2 dungeon desgin, other than a complaint around tokens being issued at the end. Even then, this was solely based on griefing. You have given no evidence or stated any other reason as to why you think they’re designed badly.

Dungeons are the hardest aspect of GW2. Why would you expect otherwise and why would you think you could do them with PUGs?

I’m using a 30/10/10/20/0 build with P/T/V armor and Runes of the Dolyak. Everything else is Berserker oriented. The hard hitting plus solidness of the build is holding up really well for me, and dungeons, while not a cakewalk, are not too bad.

I would like to incorporate some extra condition damage into the build, but of the D/D and P/P sets I use (plus SB for WvW), I really can’t afford to take points away from Power or Precision for a single attack (DB).

Griefers are and always will be a problem in MMOs. Ignore them and move on. Join a guild or party with people you know and trust. It’s a little harsh laying the blame of trolls/griefers at Anets feet and ‘threatening’ to leave the game because if it. If they’re too much for you to handle, I suggest finding a single player game where you’re shielded from such acts.

Given the premise of your entire thread is that dungeons are not fun for you…there is a simpler answer than changing an entire game to allow you to ‘have fun’.

As a counter, I find them fun. Therefore, keep them in.
