Ranks and points are fine, rank reflects time played, not how well that time was played or good you are at tpvp, but that’s what leaderboard is for. Points during matches don’t mean anything, and only noobs think they do, you don’t get any real advantage with things you buy with glory in this game so it’s just not a big deal. The only real problem atm is that the leaderboards between solo and premade queues aren’t split and the leaderboard does not have a proper decay feature. Those two things are elementary and need to be fixed before the leaderboards really reflects the players and teams, but adding a bunch of complex system measure individual players? Terrible use of development time.

Did you not read my post? I know what rank and points reflect, and I explicitly stated that they do not reflect skill. Or are you being redundant?

Then you completely missed out on the point behind half of my leaderboard discussion: the idea is to rate players based on different areas of skill, not just an overall rank. And, again, as I explained in my OP and in one of my later comments, there are issues with using the leaderboard anyways. But I’m not sure I should even have to requote those.

You finish by asking why ANet would waste development time on this algorithm, but you fail to recognize that the point behind my post wasn’t to convince ANet to implement this system, it was for players to create the ranking system.

You seem mad, my advice is to not make posts if you’ll get this upset when people disagree. Can’t be good for your health. I said rank is not a direct reflection of skill but is a reflection of time played which does matter and that they’re fine. I also said while points don’t reflect skill, that they are inconsequential and just for fun and therefore fine, which again, is a different take on it than what you presented. I also disagree that we need any additional rating system beyond the leaderboards, we just need the leaderboards to be improved, which is again, a different take on the issue than yours. I assumed you meant Anet would develop it because having players do it is such a terrible idea. Being that my post disagreed with all the main points of yours, I think you’re confused about what redundant means. It does not mean, “I don’t like your response therefore is redundant”. Activity: Moderate, most of us have full time jobs, we play consistently about 3 times a week for 3 hours or so each night, usually between 10:00pm to 1:00am (EST).
Guild has only 5 core members who’ve been together for many months, not currently recruiting for core team but would consider one or two good, mature players to fill in for off nights when only some of us are on, rank 40 min.
We have a TS3 server.

Dont want to seem like a jerk or anything but having a r40 req is pretty stupid if you ask me. I know a ton of people with high pvp rank as they farm hotjoin, but put them in a tournament and they are completely lost. Simple trial period is a much better way to recruit people. Sure, maybe you lose a game or two but you take the same risk bringing in a hotjoin hero with no strategic ability and with no min rank req you dont preclude possible candidates.

I wasn’t asking. This thread does not ask for or imply anyone wants opinions about their recruiting policies. Now, while you stating opinions as if they’re facts is cute and all, I don’t think rank 40 takes all that long to hit, we’re high 40’s and 50’s mostly through tournaments, and a player below 40 it is not likely to be experienced enough with his class to be a good fit. Being that our core team is already full, I’d just rather not waste time trying someone who is low rank on the off chance they are, which is entirely resonable and up to us.

I can see many familiar ideas from me and other users that you may have read in Warrior changes for SPVP viability topic and in a discussion about condition Warrior in another section. It would be better to keep going a single topic, splitting discussions won’t help to attract developer’s eye.

Back to your topic. The idea of adding gap closers is nice, some weapons are lacking them and it will greatly counter the problem of being kited (like Engineers like too do >.<).

Theyplayboy your idea is basically the return of “classic” stances and I guess that every Warrior would like to see the addition of F2, F3 and F4 as stances, that would be awesome.

I don’t know about “many”, some, but I disagreed with the tuning and had a lot of new suggestions to make and thought better to create a separate discussion of them so it wouldn’t get too confusing. I am allowed, as it turns out to start a thread as well.

Warrior needs some work yes. But the problem is that they are already uber in PvE and are currently the most played profession. How do you increase their viability in PvP without making them better than they already are in PvEasy? That’s the real problem the development team faces.

My suggested quick fix. In sPvP Only move Endure Pain and Frenzy into the F2 and F3 utility slots. Should be a rather simple change and will help the Warrior class out dramatically.

That’s a good point. But I think that’s doable. The changes I suggest don’t really increase warrior sustained damage (which is what make them OP in PVE) the damage boosts are minor and only to currently weak, underused weapons, but rather just gives them small boosts to healing, a bit more condi removal, makes a condi build viable and a few more ways to stay on top of fast moving/dodging targets (which is a PVP problem not a PVE one). I don’t think any of those things would have a significant impact on PVE, except for maybe the direct increases to the main healing abilities, but that could always be applied to PVP only. If sustained damage is what’s making them OP in PVE all Anet has to do is nerf their direct a damage in PVE a bit while leaving it as is in PVP.

On My Mark: Reduce CD to 25 sec and make it grant 10 seconds of AOE swiftness to warrior and players nearby. The vuln is just not enough for a utility slot and given warrior reliance on melee another option source of swiftness would be great.
Shake It Off: Should remove two conditions, increase CD to 30 sec to compensate.
Signet of Stamina: Reduce CD to 40 seconds.

Weapons:
Hammer: Fierce Blow range should get a slight increase to 200 for a small gap closer. Staggering Blow should be castable while moving as it’s not strong enough to justify not being able to move while casting it. Earthshaker cast time should be reduced from ¾ to ½ and just be more responsive.
Sword: Hamstring should add 2 stacks of 6 sec bleed (as an alternative over messing with the auto attack which I like as is), as the melee weapon for condi builds, sword needs a little boost to how fast it bleed stacks. Riposte needs work, the bleeds almost never lands, any melee attacker that gets blocked should receive the bleed stacks regardless of angle/where they are standing. It should also continue to block if only hit by ranged attacks by default, since it does not apply bleed at range this would give it some use against ranged attacks. Flurry is awful to land with the cast time AND short range. Cast time should be decreased to ¼ from ½ and the “normal” damage portion should be doubled.
Mace: Mace main hand should be the weapon of choice for a defensive warrior. Counter Blow should block full duration against ranged attacks by default and if it blocks a melee attack the attacker would take damage (about 20% higher than currently) and the warrior would gain 2 sec of protection. Pommel Bash is too much like Skull Crack being an instant close range interrupt, it should be changed to a small closer of 250 range, gaining a ¼ cast time to compensate. Crushing blow needs to hit about 25% harder to compensate for the close range and long cast time. Reduce 3rd auto attack combo cast time from 1 to ¾ sec.
Axe: I would make one change, but a key one, make Dual Strike (off hand) a gap closer with a 500 range. The need to pick up either sword MH or GS to have some gap closing/mobility makes axe, hammer and mace all really difficult to pick up unless you want to have no ranged capability. Some of my previous suggestions added small gap closers, but none that would help close larger ranges or with mobility. Adding a not as good but decent off hand longer gap closer/mobility skill to off hand axe would open up a lot more weapon combinations while making the off hand axe worth looking at in comparison to other off hand options, which it currently isn’t.
Longbow: Longbow autoattack needs some bleeding to make condi viable, longbow condi abilities are all in a fairly long cd while Fan of Fire is rather ineffective at range due to the spread. Auto-attacks should add 1 stack of 1 sec bleeds with each arrow, this would be a marginal barely noticeable damage increase for direct dmg builds but make it far more viable for condi.
Rifle: Is a confused weapon. It has a long bleed on auto attack while everything else about the weapon encourages direct damage setups. Vulnerability would be a far better suited role for it, so increase autoattack dmg by about 30% and make it add 5 sec of invuln per hit losing the bleed (name change to “Piercing Shot”). Also, double the damage of Brutal Shot to make that 1 sec cast time worthwhile, it’s not worth using atm.
Greatsword: Arcing slice damage needs to go up by about 25% so it’s actually worth using. Rush pathing to enemies really needs some help, in any place that isn’t flat all around using it is more likely to get you stuck somewhere or hit air.
Warhorn: It’s fine but for one thing, cast time is too long. For support buffs that do no damage to your opponent or heal you and need to be cast often to be effective, it just feels too slow and cumbersome to use while you’re getting wailed on. Lower the cast time on both abilities from ½ sec to ¼ seconds.

I have been playing warrior since the game launched in PvP I love the class. It makes me sad panda that even trying really hard, they just don’t seem quite worth it to bring in a serious tourney. Too much of a liability and requires too much babysitting by the team to do much. There have been a couple of threads with suggested changes but given how much I’ve played warrior I thought I’d take the time to think up my own ideas keeping with the flavor of the class Anet has.

Healing:
Warriors rely on their large health pool to survive. Health as defense is very inefficient because it devalues healing as a percentage of health, and basically kills your sustain. Warrior healing needs a boost to compensate for that. Mending base healing should be increased by about 1k, it’s CD shortened by 1 sec per condition removed would be a cool, balanced bonus. Healing Surge can stay as is but the CD should be reduced to 25 seconds. Healing Signet active heal should be boosted by about 25% and the passive by 50%.

Traits:
Brawn: The useless trait line. I like the idea of it gaining the functionality of the Adrenal Health trait to help bridge that health gap a bit, for every point invested you get 14 health regen every 3 seconds (420 every 3 sec total at 30 points), does not scale with healing power, rename trait line “Tenacity”.
Short Temper: Change it so the bonus also applies to attacks that get evaded or hit invulnerable targets, making it much more interesting.
Distracting Strikes: I think this trait should be scrapped, it’s terrible and does not fit, and swapped around with “Destruction of the Empowered” which is underpowered for a grandmaster trait and would fit better in this line.
Restorative Strength: Should also remove vulnerability.
Stick and Move: Damage bonus should be 5% rather than 3%.
Furious Reaction: Should trigger when the warrior is hit by a critical strike, not on taking over 10% health dmg, due to warrior larger health pool it currently barely procs in pvp and never does against condi classes with no big hits.
Rending Strikes: Chance should be upped to 50%.
Furious Speed: Chance should be upped to 33% with duration lowered to 2 sec.
Last Chance: This slot would take a new trait called “Infected Wounds” attacks against bleeding targets have a 33% chance to poison for 5 seconds (15 sec internal CD) Worthy of a grandmaster trait investment wise along which along with LB changes further down would make condi actually viable. “Last Chance” would move down to Grandmaster discipline line to take the place left by Destruction of the Empowered, duration can stay 4 seconds but ICD should be 60.
Adrenal Health: Gains a different functionality, every time the warrior uses a burst skill it gains 180+0.125 healing power of health for each adrenaline bar spent (so up to 3x that amount). This would create a dynamic balance between healing from “Tenacity” for holding on to adrenaline and spending it. Plus this line needs something that scales with healing power considering it’s a healing power trait line.
Empower Allies: Should also affect the warrior, in fact, that should be the case with all ally stat increasing traits, I don’t understand why it isn’t, it’s not as if the amount is that high.
Stronger Bows Strings and Burning Arrows: Should be combined into a single master level trait, then “Shrug It Off” should be moved in it’s place as an adept trait. This would open up a slot for a new master trait called “Mighty General” which would grant the warrior 1 stack of might for 8 seconds each time he used a shout to all allies in range.
Reviver’s Might: Get scrapped because it’s awful, “Fast Healer” should take its place, reflecting a better positioning for a more defensive warrior investing 30 in the line. The master minor trait needs to be more all around useful and work well with the buff themed tree, my idea is a trait called “Tactician’s Eye” that grants one strike of adrenaline every time the warrior grants someone a boon.
Vigorous Focus: Change vigor duration gained to 10 sec across all stances, most of them have a pretty long CD so this needs to be a decent duration to be worth picking up.

Abilities:
Berserker Stance: Needs to do more, Signet of Fury is actually a better adrenaline generator and has a great passive. I think this is a great candidate for another condi removal as has been suggested. It should remove 1 condition at cast then another every 5 second for the duration for a total of 2, or 3 with the Sure Footed trait.
Endure Pain: Cooldown needs to be brought down to 70 seconds, it’s strong however not making you immune to condis or CC’s makes the 90 sec CD excessive.
Dolyak Signet: Make it instant cast and a stun breaker, however, increase CD to 70 seconds and make the stability only last 4 seconds. This would make it a viable alternative for balanced stance while still having disadvantages over it.

You forgot Mesmers Ostrrich : P . I don’t know why people rank Necro over Warrior. They’re both in the same state right now. I’ve seen some good aggressive Warriors popping up lately.

Personally I think warriors are weak, but they will gain more respect as people improve at the game. Their play style is much less forgiving of mistakes than any other profession imo (gs/axe+shield).

They are weak, people have explored a lot of builds, they are still weak. The class can do a lot of damage at close range and even mid range with LB. However, warrior is stuck in a situation where it HAS to kill something either quickly or by chaining CC because it has very little defense and cannot last in a fight against most classes at equal skill. The extent of a warrior’s defense is a good starting health pool and armor, but that’s not sustainable defense, once the health goes down it’s down. Warrior healing is really weak, specially with a large health pool reliance which makes the effective healing of warrior heals lower than they would be for a class with a lower health pool but more built in defenses. When you add to that how difficult it is to remove condis on warriors… and they’re just too easy to kill. Warriors also struggle to escape quickly, yes GS and S have good movement skills but they aren’t instant like teleport and many classes can keep up, not to mention the reliance on that mobility really limits weapon selection for warriors. With the absence of stealth, build in dodges/blocks (shield block is good but you aren’t doing anything while that block is up, unlike a guardian’s focus for example, mace MH is weak as is sword OH, whirlwind is the only dodge on attack ability) or a good “oh kitten invul” button (endure pain is UP, the CD is too long and the fact it does not work against condis, which is what the warrior struggles the most against, is awful).

So overall, the only way a warrior shines at the moment is if it gets lots of team support and a bursts people down fast before they have a chance to focus him. Support/condi builds for warriors aren’t truly viable (in comparison to other classes in a similar role) because the warrior doesn’t have enough sustain to carry out a slow damage build. Overall they have a VERY limited and non self sufficient role.

Change Warhorn into shout mechanic wise

The reason why warhorn isn’t really good (in spvp anyways) is that’s it’s a sustain weapon, and warriors have no sustain. Since pretty much everything can outheal you/sustain you your only hope is to kill them before they kill you. Which is why high dmg weapons are what all the pros gravitate towards, support weapons on warrior are useless.

It’s an odd design choice for both the thief pistol and the warrior rifle that has bugged me. The main reason being is that none of the others of those weapon abilities, just the #1 slot, does condition. This means for a class designed around power the auto attack is weak due to the budgeted bleed that will tick for little damage, while if the class does build for condi damage, 2-5 will do little damage. If they want the weapons to be used by either condi and power builds they need to build condis into other of the attack abilities as well, either that or just get rid of the bleeds, or make them very short so the direct damage can go higher. This is a big part of why both of those weapons are underused in pvp.

Here are the basic facts on this matter: Yes playing asura at the smallest size gives you a marginal but relevant advantage by making your animations harder to spot in a game where they matter a LOT. If you don’t like how they look or want to play one (that would be me) you’re unfortunately at a bit of a handcap.

Fixing it would be quite simple all races (but asura) should have their smallest size be about 20% smaller than it can currently be while the tallest remains the same. This means there would simply be a larger range of size. The small end for Asura is then increased by 20% making their range lower. Tiny humans and human sized chars would be cool and give players more options in pve, in addition to those changes bringing the races just a enough closer together in pvp for it to become a non-issue.

I dont know why is so difficult…Dont separate the matchmaking….Give the chance to high lvl premades face high lvl soloqers(i know its lame but lets face it,theres not a huge playerbase to support separate soloq-premade) and give X rating..But when a match is soloqers against soloqers give another rating Y,totally different from the X

Yeah as long as the matchmaking is working I personally agree that it would be fine to let the queue stay together, BUT there should be two different rank scores (and ladders) tracked separately. If a team queues with 4 or less the result will affect their “Random” rank while if they queue with a full 5 team it affects their “Team” rank. Also, premade teams should get a smaller rank bump to their “Team” rank if up against a random group while that group would get a bigger “Random” rank bump if they beat a full team. I really think the majority of the player base would be made happy by this set up.

We need decay and a split between solo queue ranking and premade ranking. Honestly I find it hard to not just ignore the leaderboards right now. I’ll get up to the 100’s if I stick to just premades with my team for a while then easily drop to 90% or 80% after a chain of losses in solo queue due to 4v5’s, going up against an organized premade with a full pug, just getting bad luck, or because I’m trying out a class as I’m not as experienced with (or play warrior, which I call hard mode spvp) etc. I like going into solo queues with classes I don’t normally play, for variety/fun (it is all about having fun isn’t it?) but the current ranking system strongly encourages people to only do premades and with 1 or maybe two classes. There has to be some place you can solo queue for fun and to try out new classes without it all being tied to a single ranking. Together those two things are just really distorting the leaders from reflecting who the best active players actually are at the moment.

Engi elites are pretty bad right now lol, supply crate is the only cool one. I’d like them to replace mortar with a “shoulder cannon” that allowed you to move (at 50% speed) and gave you stability and blew kitten up.

Roll 30/20/0/20/0. Take Berzerkers Strength, Dual-Wielding, Berzerkers Might, Deep Cuts, Opportunist, Leg Specialist, and Stronger Bowstrings. Spec for condition damage and duration. Use a full set of Superior Runes of the Centaur, use Sword (geomancer sigil) + Axe (earth sigil), and Longbow (earth sigil). Use Mending, Signet of Stamina, Throw Bola, either Balanced Stance or “Shake it Off”, and Signet of Rage.

Now you are ready to apply serious pressure with a Warrior up close and at 1200 range. If the enemies are all avoiding melee just switch from Sword+Axe to Axe+Sword. If you’re experiencing a lot of heavy ranged focus fire equip Sword+Shield (water or purity sigil), and change Dual-Wielding to Restorative Strength.

Use this, learn this, and never again will you say a Warrior needs more viability.

Edit: Note- +30% condition duration in the strength line +50% bleed duration from deep cuts and +15% bleed duration from centaur runes give +95% bleed duration.

In a serious tournament setting that will get chewed up by anything with steady condi removal and decent healing, super long bleeds are generally not worth it as they’ll get cleared off before they even make it half way to full duration. And since it’s one condi mainly, it doesn’t even take that much condi removal. You’d take too long to kill something and have very little healing or condi removal of your own, which means any class with enough condi removal and better healing than you (read most classes) will eventually outlast you.

Oh sure, you can get kills on noobs with all kinds of builds, some dude running no condi removal in hotjoin will get eaten by it. But in a serious tournament against high ranked players? Good luck with that. The only chance a warrior has is to kill an opponent before they limited sustain runs out, either by bursting them down really fast or locking them down somehow. Still the weakest class in spvp, the buffs only helped a little.

I like the custom arena tool, though it clearly needs some smoothing over. And it’s fine you have to “buy” a custom arena. What is needed in addition to that though is a simple duel command. Just that, plain and simple, just like in World of Warcraft. Which is ancient in MMO years and not pvp focused. So if they can do it… why can’t you? It would be so fun to just be able to tag someone for combat while in the mists, there is so much space there, it would be so exciting if people could just spread out and duel between tourneys or to test things.

Obviously you would need a mechanic in place so that when 2 people start a duel all the attacks (including AOE) can only affect the person they’re tagged to duel with. But that can’t be all that difficult. I mean seriously, this feature would rock. So, pretty please?

Ah… in the wrong direction? I read that post, and most of the people in it seem to just not be very good at warrior. One person even said “signet of might” was useless… 180 power with a CD that allow u to pierce through blocks? It’s amazing, let a guardian pop his block heal and knock him down through it and he is done. Yes I still think there are some issues, idk that the class is up there with other classes yet, the combination of how little condi removal they have plus how little healing/sustain is really brutal in sPVP, the boon hate trait is really underpowered, which is very disappointing, and brawn needs to be fixed but the class just got a pretty good bump and may even be viable again, even if not optimal.

- Burst Mastery is actually awesome. And I mean Really, really really awesome!
- Dogged March is decent, but the best part about it IMHO was the regen, if it was like double the amount….
- Frenzy got better like all the other Utilities; definitely the right direction
- Signets got better, also right direction.

Here’s my Warrior Wishlist though

Completely revamp Frenzy to a much much shorter CD. Frenzy shouldn’t be balanced around the CD, it just becomes an extremely volatile effect that will probably only really be used to rez/kill downed players, because every Char has Stunbreakers more often than the War can possibly dish out his Frenzy. It gets to a point where it’s simply a matter of: “can I get lucky and my opponent doesn’t have a defensive CD rdy” And if you play against a Warrior, you’ll simply hold on to the necessary CD’s when there’s a chance that he’ll be roaming to you.

So what to do?

- reduce CD to 20 seconds , but make the Quickness shorter and the Drawback a longer Duration.

Really, it would be so awesome to see Teams handle a Warrior and how the Warrior uses it’s Frenzy, because it would be a constant battle between more DPS dished out, but received as well, it would make any teamfight with a Warrior so much more Dynamic.

IMHO, Frenzy should look like this:
Cooldown: 20 seconds
Quickness Duration: 2 Seconds
Frenzy-Duration (the Drawback-Part): 5 Seconds
and remove the Stunbreaker, Teammates should be able to stun a Warrior when they sniff out that he’s going in for a kill.

Also, for Gods sake take care of Brawn…. It’s a stupid Idea to begin with, cuz many Burst-Skills deal Condition-DPS; what about them? Just change it with sth. that fits the Warrior, like reduced Weapon-Swap, faster Adrenalin-gain or sth.

…This change would simply totally change the nature of the ability without accomplishing anything warriors need, I don’t see it happening.

Overall the patch was a step in the right direction, the changes to signets and the addition of Dogged March were right on the mark and opened up some possibilities. Destruction of the Empowered is not tuned right. It’s too situational, it only gets really worth it when the opponent has at least 3 boons and there are classes that almost never do. So sometimes it’s great, others it’s useless, and when I can pick up Burst Mastery which is always useful… A small tuning change to “damage is increased by 3% and an additional 3% per unique boon on the warrior’s target” gives it at least a little boost for situations with no or fewer boons putting it more in line with Burst Mastery.

And then there is brawn. Still? Seriously? It makes the class look like it’s in beta, a whole trait attribute that doesn’t do anything. There are other things such as shouts still being useless, Reviver’s Might being useless, rifle being really UP in pvp, etc. But brawn is the worse. Warriors don’t need more passive dmg, they’ll get too bursty. But their sustain can use a little more buffing so here is a fun idea for brawn:

Replace the “Adrenal Health” minor trait current functionality with “Heals you for (200 + 0.25 healing power) when you use a burst skill per adrenaline level used”. And then rename the current adrenal health effect to “Furious Regeneration” and make that the new warrior trait attribute, it heals you for you for 5 health every 3 seconds for each point spent in the line per adrenaline level (450 every 3 seconds at full adrenaline and with 30 points in). This would create a fun dynamic where “Adrenal health” would encourage you to spend adrenaline to heal while “Furious Regeneration” to hold on to it.

No, the meta builds are actually on par with other classes now. Some eles will cry because they weren’t actually better players than many of the people they were beating on 1v1 and now reality will sink in. There are however UP aspects to the class, such as staff and the fire and air trait lines. But as far as the meta 30 water 30 arcane builds the tuning was good.

It’s a bad system. Personally until they split solo queue and team I simply ignore the leaderboards. It’s not that hard. I generally climb up to the the 300’s if I play with just my guild for a couple of nights, but not only do i want to solo queue sometimes I want to do it with classes I don’t usually play for variety, cause it’s fun. Until I can do that in a way that won’t affect my premade serious play rating I just don’t care… lol.

Yes, not only does it make warrior weaker but it makes the game look like it’s still in BETA with a “placeholder” trait line, it’s just sad. If warrior dmg is in the right place in their opinion, then just change Brawn into something defensive, which is something warriors are currently UP at.

I like the idea of replacing the “Adrenal Health” trait with something else, and build the existing trait into brawn buffing it up a bit, such as you get 15 health every 3 seconds per points spent (for 450 every 3 sec with 30 points in the line) which is pretty balanced. The mechanic is already there so it wouldn’t even be hard.

If you take away cleansing wave AND evasive arcana heal you are basically gutting all of scepter/daggers healing power and there will be no one using that weapon set anymore. The only option will be to run 3 cantrips or die after dodges are on cooldown.

Scepter/dagger would be more suitable for a hybrid dmg/roam build, while scepter/focus would be best for a pure bunker build. As to it “gutting away all healing power”, you mean besides the main heal, water trident, healing ripple, soothing mists and regen right? Because that’s 5 healing sources. Also, if your weapon set up and runes/sigils are damage oriented, you actually shouldn’t be able to just out heal another high damage opponent, you need to kill them before they kill you, as with every other dmg build in the game. If you want to be able to out heal your opponent your dmg should take a penalty from it.

Scepter range is only 900 not 1200…and i dont want to be forced to use a focus like mesmers. I love my water five ability so screw you go QQ some more. No ele wants to be forced to use a focus I personally love to run scepter/dagger. Eww focus horrible idea.

“The best mobility/disengage ability in the game with a base range of 1200 very fast movement speed with a fairly low CD” that’s clearly referring to Ride the Lightning, not to scepter range, nowhere in that statement do I say anything about scepter. So rather than “correcting” me you could learn to read. The fact “you” “love” having both the strongest weapon slot heal and the strongest weapon slot mobility skill in the game in one weapon is not an argument as to how that is or isn’t balanced. The opposite if anything. Unlike this post, which is a coherent argument as to how it is not. All classes would love that combination as it makes staying alive for a roamer a bit too easy.

The change also does not “force” eles to use focus, it makes focus optimal if they want to bunker, if they want to do dmg they’d still be better off running dagger, and they would gain a ranged chill to help them close into kiting targets to melee them. All classes are “forced” to run certain weapons to perform in specific types of play, a warrior is forced to run LB to have decent ranged capability, a necro is forced to run dagger to be able to burst an engi is forced to run pistol to play condi, and etc. The fact off dagger is the best weapon to both bunker with AND roam burst, and that no one wants to touch focus, makes it quite clear there is a balance issue between the two.

A “QQ” post is a whiny post where players say what they like and want (as opposed to what’s better for the game and overall balance), get mad at people who disagree, insult other people, and don’t actually present any sound arguments or solutions to a real problem. In other words, your post, no mine. Not to mention, unlike some of the actual QQ posts about eles, what I suggest is barely a nerf, and more of a adjustment to fix a balance problem.

11- Enable auto target on cast to be set on a per skill basis (sort of like auto cast is now) as opposed to all or none.

When I fight anyone with pets, autotargetting is my worst enemy. If I pull a Ranger with Magnet pull and I try to follow that up with a prybar, and the pet is standing right next to me, auto-targetting switches my target to the pet and I go for the pet instead. That was when I turned off auto-T.

Hmm, even with auto-targeting enabled, you can override it by just clicking on the target you want, auto-targeting however will prevent you from firing an ability at “nothing” in case you lose your manual target. And in a team fight, or even in a 1v1 where a pet is involved hitting the pet/an unitended player is better than firing the skill at thin air and putting it on CD. This would be less of an issue if this game didn’t have so many issues that make you lose your target unexpectantly, but still, auto-targeting as an OPTION would be great. But it isn’t really an option right now because you can’t use disengage skill with it on, so until you can do toggle individually it has to be be off.

Really good list, number 14 and 15 needs to come asap, not only for pvp but for pve aswell:
Hit the respec button, get acess to +- buttons, confirm and pay the price (in pve) getting disconnected/going offline would revert the spec without cost in order to battle abuse.

Speaking of traiting:
When will we see tooltip adjustments for traits taken?
Some examples;
Mesmer;
Illusions 15 – “Illusionary Retribution” – All shatter skills inflict confusion.
Guardian;
Virtues 5 – “Inspired Virtue” – Virtues now also apply the following boos (snip)
Honor X – “Writ of the Merciful” – All symbols heal allies.
Warrior;
Tactics XII – “Vigorous Shouts” – Shouts heal

If you pick those nothing happends with the tooltips, you have to go out and try them on some NPC and then go “oh it was this much for that amount of time with those stats”.

Aaaand ofc with spvp and traits in mind where people number crunch traits like
“Elite skills lasts longer”, “Deal extra damage for each boon you have”, “Pet skills recharge faster”, “Increase damage of symbols”, “deal more damage at low/not full endurance”, “Burst skills costs less”, “Run faster while wielding melee weapons” etc etc etc
Those aren’t really good descriptions are they? Is there any plans to change the text to actually reflect specifically what the trait actually does?

Yes to all of that, it’s kind LOL. I mean, I’m not sure what the excuse is. If you know the numbers, you have to you wrote the game, and you’re writing a tooltip for a trait it doesn’t take you longer to type in “Deals 2% extra damage for each boon you have” as opposed to “Deal extra damage for each boon you have”, so why would one opt to go with the vague version, which is bound to annoy players and force you to fix it later, just puzzles me.

1- Buff the damage on the focus 4 “Freezing Gust” then swap places between it and “Cleansing Wave” on off hand dagger, lower the CD of “Cleansing Wave” to 20 sec.

2- Remove “Cleansing Wave” as the evasive arcana water effect, replacing it with a weaker version of the dagger 3 “Frozen Burst” effect (2 sec aoe chill rather than 3).

Yes, that’s it. The fundamental problem unlike what people think is not cantrips. They’re strong defensive abilities but have a fair CD and take up an ability slot. They’re fine. The real problem is off hand dagger and evasive arcana.

Off hand dagger offers in one weapon: the best mobility/disengage ability in the game with a base range of 1200 very fast movement speed with a fairly low CD, combined with high damage abilities, combined with 2 powerful control abilities, combined with a powerful healing ability. That makes it way too easy for the class to disengage/disable while healing themselves. Cleansing wave on evasive arcana is just too strong and makes the trait mandatory, eles are not going to explore other trait lines until you remove it, simple as that. Plus it gives sustained healing to eles even when they are geared for dmg output, which combined with strong defensive abilities make their ratio of dmg to defense unbalanced. An AOE chill on a 10 sec cd is still powerful defensively, but no longer “mandatory”. An ele geared for dmg should not be able to just stay in and tank dmg while out healing it, they should be forced to use their control/mobility to disengage when low to survive and have to actually wait for their health to get back up like with every other dmg build in the game.

The reduction in CD for Cleansing Wave is to compensate for removing it from evasive arcana, because a bunker/healing ele that gears for that should be viable. And by putting it with focus you now force eles to make a choice, they can be good bunkers/healers OR highly mobile/burst dmg but they can’t do all 4 of those things at the same time because that’s when it gets stupid and unbalanced.

I’m not saying this is all it takes to “fix” eles all around, this is what it takes to break the current meta, to really fix the class glyphs and signets both need to be revamped so they are actually useful, conjured weapons needs to be buffed further, the fire trait line needs to be buffed/redesigned, staff needs major buffing and some redesign… etc. But this would be a start.

1) I agree that targeting has been a point of contention around here since everyone has a different opinion on how it should work. We have not forgotten about this issue, but it is pretty low priority, unfortunately. This polish would fall under the umbrella of a combat team.

4) Vendors and collections were an existing way to get PvP items into the game. Ideally there should be a proper unlock system, but time and tech prevented this from happening. This is a feature owned by the PvP team.

5) I really don’t like suggestions like this, because its a complete band-aid solution to something that should just be redesigned for PvP. Why do you need to even buy free items to apply it 6 times? This is a feature owned by the PvP team.

6) This is some good polish, but it only affects these two specific collections out of the entire game. I would go so far as to say we shouldn’t need these oddly working collections in the first place (see 4). This particular part of collections is a feature owned by the PvP.

9) The reason for making people go to the mists is because the transition from PvE to PvP is a big one. If I new players were to queue directly into a PvP game, they’d have no idea why all their armor, weapons, and traits were different. Making this a two step process helps to eliminate this confusion. However, we realize that the flow of PvP is not efficient, and plan on working on this. This is a lot of features and polish owned by the PvP team.

12) You cannot have bank access in the mists because anyone can port there for free.

16) The limit of 1 is a technical limitation.

17) This will not happen as it affects way to many things in the game. Why do you have that many things stacked at once as to need a stack size of 1000? The problem is not the stack size.

Thanks for reply! This kind of transparency really helps the community, you should get a raise. Here are my replies:

1) It’s not a point of contention in pvp, unless I have gotten very unlucky with my sample, but from the dozens of pvp players I know (most pretty competitive) this annoys all of them. Is the contention with PVErs? It’s beside the point though. “Toggle targeting on right click on/off” make everyone happy. I disagree with this being low priority, this issue makes pvping less fun and more frustrating… that’s pretty significant and it’s not that hard to fix it’s just a matter of creating an alternate input command for right click and set it to toggle. Am I wrong?

4, 5, 6) I see your point in all of these, I was thinking in terms of bandaids because the team seems pretty busy as it is… but yes the ideal scenario would be for pvp runes/sigils to have a different interface where you can simply select things from drop down menus and not “buy” free stuff and attach manually at all.

9) Then you make the queue from anywhere feature only available once you have gone to the mists, completed all the are tutorials and completed X number of tournaments, so it’s an “unlock”. From that point the player will know it’s different and will still go to the mists to tweak, but making people go talk to the herald every time to queue when they’re rank 40+ is pretty annoying and doesn’t serve a purpose.

11) 0.o pretty surprised at this answer. Movement abilities play a key role in pvp, take Savage Leap, it’s useful for closing in, but also just as important to get away. However, with auto targeting on ability cast it will take you towards the enemy you’re trying to run from. So most serious pvpers with any abilities like that on their bar will turn auto targeting on ability cast off so they can untarget and use abilities like that to get away. But auto targeting would be nice in many other abilities, as a complement to manually targeting. However, that isn’t an option because the option toggle is all or nothing.

12) Fair enough. Ha.

13) Then create double slots for dual wield weapons, that’s where that is most annoying, like dual daggers on ele, you go down the list to find the daggers you want to use but you only have one of each type so… now you have to go find another one like it somewhere in your bags or make one. Double slots for just daggers, pistols, axes, maces and swords would do it for me.

17) I currently have 250 stacks of dust and orbs on a bunch of characters, taking up bag space and needing to be transfered about through the regular bank to make large amounts of dyes or w/e else. Defeats the purpose of the pvp locker which is suppose to minimize that isnt’ it? Maybe then just create multiple slots for just dust and orb? 5 for each would be awesome, if you could store up to 1250 i those separate slots for just those 2 you tend to get a lot of problem solved.

I play warrior a lot and while it’s not “awful” it does feel like hardmode pvp against players of the same skill level, the class is playable but it isn’t up to par with most other classes. Condi warriors improved with the last patch, but just aren’t quite there yet. Truth is, a necro, ranger or engi will do significantly better job on condis so why would u run a condi warrior?

Rifle should the be the high ranged direct dmg weapon for warriors but kill shot just doesn’t work for pvp, it’s too slow and obvious while brutal shot is just useless. It’s very hard to play pure melee weapons in pvp as even with good gap closers some classes have too many tools to keep range on you and wear you down while kiting. You tend to be forced into GS and S for mobility, otherwise your survivability drops even further. Then you’re forced into LB because rifle is so bad, that’s why GS/LB is the only semi viable build atm. Warriors have a large health pool but far too mediocre self healing and awful condi removal. Their traits are a mess, the discipline line has a useless class trait, which is pretty lol this late in the game. Shouts are UP, as are signets. Banners are nice but suit a support/bunker role better they’re bad for roaming, and due to lack of self healing/buffs/better defensives skills on more resonable cd a bunker warrior isn’t really viable. It’s worse than a guardian by a long shot in the same role. Overall the class does need a buff, butter tuning and just a lot of fixes.

Hi , I’ve been gw2 for quite a while now and today I went to do some tpvp here’s the opposing team
warr/guardian/ele/guardian/engi

the guardians being immortal , I decided to target only the other ones , starting by the engi , we fought him 2v1 he died and I had like 8k hp left , But his 20 sec ++ poison downed me near the flag and then came the warr to finish me off…

How can a class have a 20 sec poison ? this is unfair , its like he has enough time to be killed and come back finish you off while you’re downed…

also how can Guardians be immortals while doing tons of dmg ? I remember we were 3 guys hitting those guardians , they seemed to be full hp the entire fight while we were dying so fast

I just don’t understand all of this…I bought gw2 cuz I thought PvP would be fun , competitive and balanced , but its none of the above ! its not fun anymore seeing only 4 classes / 8 being played , its not fun fight OP classes (usually when one goes for defence , he sacrifices his offensive power but its not happening in this game with those guardians…) not to mention D/D Ele who can kill pretty fast too while having tons of heals/immunity spells

Pvp is this game is fairly complex, which is all of the better in my opinion. If you just started playing it you should first go and do some research and run some tests, read up what things are in the gwwiki and just practice more before making a post claiming the game is broken.

For one thing you need condi removal to pvp. For another, bunker guardians generally can’t be killed 1v1 at equal skill without investing more time on it than is worthwhile if he holds the point, you need multiple people in a coordinated attack to bring one down quickly. In exchange the dmg of a pure bunker guardian is pretty low if u’re dodging/kiting properly, you just have to be mindful of retaliation and you can see that buff, as well as other buffs you should track on your opponent such as aegis, under his health bar. Eles are OP right now, necro and warrior a UP, but it’s not by all that much.

It isn’t that his statement is untrue… You have just asked the wrong question nilgoow. The better question to ask is “what class are you playing kheops?”

I would wager a thief. Thiefs are utterly useless against guardians and they will feel overpowered when you fight them. Further, a thief with no condition clear will fall over to even the tiniest condition dot.

We can assume from the post that the OP is not playing a warrior (which by the way is terrible also), a guardian, an ele, or an engy. That leaves thief, mesmer, necro, and ranger.

The only class out of that which struggles is a thief.

So kheops… what class do you play? if its thief…try rerolling any other class but warrior and see if your situation against the classes you speak of doesnt improve.

Actually, a thief, when spec’d right, is a very formidable competitor against guards. Regular Backstab bursters tend to fail against guards because their high toughness overcomes the fact that bursters need to kill their enemies as quickly as possible. However, condi thieves and bunker thieves tend to be able to put up good fights against guards. Just sayin’.

There is no such thing as a bunker thief. Thief healing relies on stealth spamming, which means they can’t hold a point. Which is what bunkering means. Unless you mean they can bunker a random spot on the map that isn’t a point.
