WvW Need Build Help - Mace/Shield

in Guardian

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

Below is my build. It isn’t very good I assume. I like playing mace/shield as I like to heal/support and I think it look kittening kitten. I also like staff as secondary for obvi reasons. I play WvW almost exclusively. Can anyone help me out with a good mace/shield build? Or if mace/shield is worthless for WvW let me know as well. I wear full knights armor (except gloves are soldiers) and all my trinks/jewelry are soliders.

Thanks.

Hammer would be better for your gear setup, Mace is ok but doesn’t shine till you have REALLY high healing power, even then the blast finishers still outheal it’s regen (The main reason I go Mace/Shield + Hammer). I don’t think Mace is good for WvW as it’s mobility is lacking, however Shield can come in handy quite often, have you thought about using a Sword instead?

I personally use Mace/Shield for PvE as things don’t move around too much. I wear Cleric armour with boon duration runes, trinkets and weapons; traits are 0/0/20/30/20 using triple shouts most of the time. This focuses on healing/support through boons and symbols, and it’s very tanky also has reasonable attack power. However it severely lacks in crit chance and crit damage which makes it’s synergy with some runes, sigils and traits very poor.

To sum up: Mace is better for PvE imo, try using Hammer instead. If you care more about the shield skills think about taking a Sword instead.

I use Mace/Shield + Hammer or Staff personally I’m traited as 0/0/20/30/20. I have a high healing power, around 1,200, with those traits and boon duration runes I get 100% uptime on regeneration, which heals for around 200 per tick, combined with the Virtue of resolve which also ticks for 200 ish and my symbols I have a maximum of ~600hp/s regen (thinking my symbols heal for around 200 as well, not sure though). This also applies to people around me too.

I switch to Hammer when I want more protection, need more endurance to dodge or for the leap/cc. I find these compliment each other very well.

Everyone here has given you solid advice, gear does make a large difference so upgrading that will help a lot.

Now on the gameplay side of things running with EM and AH is a great combo, they play well with each other, however you should play around with your traits till you find something that works for YOU.
I personally don’t run AH or EM but I’m still very tanky and am more oriented towards support. With all Clerics gear and a 0/0/20/30/20 trait setup, I’m very durable, my boons last for ages and I can help keep everyone up and about much easier, my rolls heal for over 1.2k and I can do three rolls in-a-row.
Upgrade your gear to Masterwork/Rare and re-work your traits a little and you should be fine, just remember that you can’t face-tank in GW2 like in other MMOs. Strafe, dodge, block, blind and invulnerability are you’ll tools to survive.

Grenth and Balthazar always contested?

Balth has been done nightly on Gunnars Hold for a bit now and usually goes w/o a hitch if you are looking for somewhere to guest

^ This the guild I’m in runs Balth every day at 8pm GMT on Gunnar’s Hold.
Sometimes we do the other temples, mainly Lyssa or Dwayna, occasionally we might do Grenth too though it requires more coordination than the others and tends to fail more often recently.

Healing Power

JustCurious.3457

If you can get about 1.2k healing power, which I have, your dodges heal for over 1000. Though to get that you need a full Clerics set and then, of course, you miss out on crit chance which is very important for AH builds. I’m not running an AH build atm focusing more on Boons&Virtues.
If you’re going AH then you really are better off without Healing Power gear as you don’t need it, even with ~300 your dodges heal nicely and AH scales terribly anyway.

Hammer or Mace/Shield for PvE?

in Guardian

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

Personally I am preferring Mace/Shield over Hammer in my Cleric gear. The are two things that Hammer has over Mace/Shield and those are Blast finishers and its leap skill, Mace/Shield is not very mobile. They both have interrupts/knock backs Shields being better IMO as it is quicker to get off than Hammer’s Banish and has an AoE heal.

I feel Hammer is better at keeping YOU alive while Mace/Shield is good at supporting EVERYONE. You could also take both of course

I’m fairly new here so please be patient. But my question is in the sPVP setup. I noticed two runes with +10% boon duration but I can’t seem to find a third available? Am I missing something? I can’t remember which two are there but I did see Monk. Aren’t there supposed to be these three +10% boon duration armor pieces available in sPvP as well?

In sPvP there may not be another Boon Duration rune, as Superior Runes of Sanctuary currently give Chill Duration instead of Boon Duration like their Major and Minor variants suggest. Your best bet is to take 3 Monk and 3 Water, or one that gives Might Duration, idk whatever feels best for you. This is only a problem as you only have access to the Superior runes in sPvP.
In PvE this problem is avoided by using 2 Sup Monk, 2 Sup Water and 2 Major Water/Monk.

You will be hard pressed to reach 3k armour without putting points into the Valor tree. I would say focus on ~2500, as I find that is enough to stave off most hard attacks and doesn’t sacrifice too much. (Though I don’t WvW much, mainly PvE)
I’m planning on going for celestial ascended amulet and earrings atm, with berserker rings and back. Currently though I’m still in Exotics so it’ll be a while yet, I currently have full PVT armour with berserker hammer and trinkets and it is working out for me.

Well let’s see.

Positives:
1:They fixed the tool tip for Superior Rune of Water.
2: The New Back Items are like HoM Skin stones. Which means when I find that Exotic Back piece I will be Set.

Negatives:
1:They didn’t fix the Second bonus for Superior Rune of Water.
2: The New back Items require Guild Commendations. Something I’ll never be able to get, due to me having the worldest Smittest Social skills. Honestly They Couldn’t make to where they Cost 5G alone? Maybe make it to where they’re cheaper with Guild Commendations.

All in all 5/10. Half good. Half bad. Most stuff was just bunk. I was really looking forward to those back pieces.

Superior Rune of Water’s second bonus is not broken, I gives +15% Boon duration. Superior Rune of Sanctuary however displays +20% Chill Duration when it is believed that it is supposed to also be +15% Boon Duration (as that is what the minor and major versions have).

I liked the new dungeon, not overly difficult and the final bosses were fun.
Like the look of the new banners, not sure if I would spend commendations on them however, as they are essentially just a ‘look’ and have no stats on them.
I like the fused gauntlets, trying to find a colour scheme that works with it ATM.

Don’t like the new weapon skins in the gem store, what is there problem with not putting out Hammer skins?!

Overall 8/10

Roll a warrior, level it to 80, get exotic zerker gear and do dungeons over and over and over and overand over and over again.

That is sounds advice…. Or you could level a class you like the sound of and play how you want to. You can’t really go wrong at the beginning, you gain exp from exploring as well as fighting&questing&hearts&events. Just remember that if you feel like you are falling behind for your personal quest you can go off to the other races starter areas and do stuff there to level yourself up.

Loot and EXP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

Elementalists are one of the hardest classes to play, they have low health and low armour. Either spec into toughness or take defensive utilities. Traits make a MASSIVE difference, if you are just placing them all into power then you are going to have problems. I would suggest speccing more defensively or possibly trying another of the professions, Guardian is a nice class, very good survivability and I find mine great for soloing. I don’t know much when it comes to eles as I don’t play one so I can’t help much there.

Back onto the loot/exp problem, I have personally been playing since the headstart and during the BWEs, so I’ll reiterate what I and others have said; there is NO loot/exp stealing, it is ALL SHARED every person who has tagged the mob will get and equal chance at their own loot and will earn just as much exp if they had killed it solo. As long as you contribute enough you will get credit for it. I have found this is only a problem for some of the meta events, playing as a guardian I spec into supporting allies and such don’t do enough damage in some cases.

To sum up:
1. Try a more defensive trait and utility setup.
2. Try out some of the other classes.
3. Loot/EXP is all shared to those who contribute.

Loot and EXP

JustCurious.3457

I do not think we should be one shotting something No but again if we level up and do all that work it should at least feel like we are getting somewhere when we are not really getting anywhere except getting skills and I got all the skills I can get right now but they do no good when you hit something and yer so weak its like you never did no work leveling up. A level 80 comes into a level 17 area and they are fighting their butts off just to win it should at least feel like they are a bit stronger then just a level 17

A level 80 in a 17 zone would have a much easier time with the mobs as their gear is better than anything available at that level and they have access to higher traits. If your gear is up to date you should be fine and by up to date I mean no more than 4 levels lower than your current level.
If you are keeping your gear up to date and you are still having a hard time try looking at the skills you are using and the traits you have picked, try speccing for more survivability instead of pure damage etc. Do you mind me asking what profession you picked?

Loot and EXP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

In Guild Wars 2 loot and exp is SHARED not SPLIT, everyone gets the same amount from killing a mob or from completing an event whether they are in a group or solo. There is no down side to teaming up with others, which is really good IMO. Experience earned is also scaled slightly, so a higher level player would get more exp/higher lvl loot from lower level events than a player of the correct level, this is so that people can play anywhere in the world and not feel like they aren’t progressing.

Levelling does not have much of an effect no, if you want to be able to run around one-shotting everything in the low level areas once you are a high level then just plain can’t in GW2, though it will be significantly easier.

For Kohler (not sure the spelling) stability helps a lot so having a Guardian helps for that, he can’t pull you with that on, I also think it has a limited range and can be dodged(?), not sure on that though. Most people skip him because he can be annoying to fight.
You shouldn’t be having problems with burrows if you are a warrior. On path one where you need to take down the burrows and protect the NPC just have someone stay with him and aggro all the gravelings while everyone else bursts down the burrows, that is the only place I actually have trouble with, if it goes wrong it is usually because the NPC went down.
Unfortunately condition damage doesn’t help with breaking things and I agree that it should help with objects.

Recently changed my server and got no buffs

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

You do not get the buff during the current match after a transfer and possibly the match after that as well.

It also does not apply when you are in Overflow or guesting on another server even if you have never transfered.

Yes I know this. But as I stated, 5 days after my transfer(transfer date: 8th april), a new wvw match started on last Friday night, but I still have no buffs. I think it has more cooldown than we think, or it’s a bug or something. I can’t find a new official information about this from arenanet anywhere. (maybe it’s because i don’t know the right term to search)

I’ve found this on another gw2 forum, but cooldown time isn’t definitely explained.

“Some of our more astute fans asked about the complications involved with switching servers and how it would interact with world bonuses. Every account has a home server where your characters are created. You can only fight for your home world in WvW. You can visit other servers, and while you are visiting, you still get the world bonus from your home world instead of the bonus for the world you are visiting. If you switch your home server, you lose the bonus from your previous home world and are not eligible for the bonus for your new server at least until the beginning of the next battle for the Mists. We may extend this disqualification into the next match or possibly even longer to discourage people from switching servers right before a battle ends in order to get an awesome bonus. You will have to pay a fee to change your home server (price undetermined), and that will also discourage people from server hopping to chase world bonuses. "

It seems that you may not qualify till the next match, starting on the 26th? If you still don’t have them then it may be a bug. Till then just tough it out.

Level cap: if increased, what are the impacts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustCurious.3457

JustCurious.3457

If they do increase the level cap they may not necessarily increase the ‘gear cap’ by that I mean you could level to say 85 but the best gear will still only be level 80.
They could also release new utilities that could be unlocked with SP after levelling higher than 80, new traits at higher levels, new skins. There are many things that could come from raising the cap but I don’t think they would make everyone’s gear obsolete, how would that work for people who didn’t buy the expansion? Would they just have to suck it up that they are just plain not going to be as strong as others unless they buy it?

Because it wouldn’t basically be a mount. Yes you can ride it, but it’s a more cosmetic use than a functional. The little mov spd boost you would get would be on par with the Charr, like I mentioned, when they sprint. I don’t think this would be of any bigger advantage than being a Charr would.
Also thank you for the complement

Charr don’t gain a movement speed increase when running on all fours. It’s just their default running animation.
