Downscale ascended to exotic for WvW

Is there a way to get an ascended weapon without crafting? I play 3.5 hours a day. How long will I have to PVE to craft it? The question is not actually being able to craft it, but how long will I have to PVE and not play wvw to do so? This is not what we were promised. I don’t want to farm to be competitive.

Lvling a crafter is the hardest part.
Getting the parts to craft it is not actually that hard. You can do WvW and get one within 1 month. If you PvE for let say 1hr a days, you can get it within 1 week.

The stats isn’t that great anyway, so I vote “NO”

Reasons:
1)Downscale takes programming time, testing takes time as well. We may even get bugged ascended that one hit people after they are “downscaled”.
2)It is better for dev to spend more time solving the zerging , lower number= getting spawn-camped and blow-out than doing stupid thing like this.
3)Game is about getting reward and having fun. Take away the reward and you think anyone will wvw?

What I learned after playing a Ranger in spvp?
Class is unbalanced, if you want to win, roll a warrior, Guardian.

wow how you learned so many things about ranger? really? the only thing i learned is that the skill required is really high and that i can kill almost every enemy… i don’t think you have played ranger in the right way. I don’t think you have played ranger with the right build… i don’t even think you have player ranger as a ranger but as a guardia and/or warrior… ranger isn’t a warrior nor a guardian but can kill both ^^

If you still think that ranger isn’t enough go for an OP condition build but i told you this as a power build player

I killed a warrior without adding a single point and no rune in armor (forgot to add them). I am sure every ranger in spvp has his days.

So in short now: what @up said + personally I’d just ignore them (can easily run as ranger), as they are poor loosers abusing broken mechanic. Also, if they aren’t hidding in tower or sth, they are harmless.
+ GS 4. when you expect back stab, followed with 3 -> 5 -> 2.

First and foremost, you can’t run from a thief. They can shadowstep great distance.
Against a thief who do the cheap C&D BS combo, their steal is 1500FT. Good luck

Second, Block is useless again backstab, You can block from your back but your reflect is to the FRONT. Basically you will just eat his backstab since he can stab you again after you block.

The high toughness allows you to shrug off bursts, perma regen, the 3 evades on the S/D plus the knockback and stealth from the LB provide a lot of sustain. The key is to keep the thief poisoned, use a bursty pet (birds), and swing even when you they are stealthed. Good ones may still run away once they realize they can’t kill you, but you will get your share of kills.

The only way is having high toughness and self-heal. Most thief look for easy kill and most of them attack solo careless target which are found near enemies Territory. Most of the time , these solo target become a group if fight take too long. Skilled one will unload his burst to check if he can take you down within 15sec.
If not, he run away.

it is easy..you see where he will rezz his thief mate, just aoe on this spot, knockdowns, fears, posion and booth will die

If these 2 thieves team with each other, it is impossible to take them down.
NOTE: Thieves can port when drown, so his friend can stealth him and he port himself away from danger.
You can try spamming AOE all over the place and hope for the best but a 3-4 AOE hit won’t kill him.

For a thief to do 6k against a hardened target, it requires full glass and perfect execution. For a condi build to do 2k or more per tick, the player can be almost completely bunker. That same thief that hits for 6k can easily be hit for 10k+ and has a low HP pool. Given the same attacker with the same stats a thief can be one shotted:

((806 * 2.4 * 3000) * 3.00) / 1064 = 16382

A thief can put zero point in precision , stacking toughness, power and crt dmg only and still able to crt more than 7k on a tank.
I wonder what can hit a 3k armor thief for 10k? Another thief maybe?
The fact that OP said toughness should mitiage condition shown that he run hidden killer build and want to win all the time.

Well thanks all for replies, i guess it’s as i feared that after 300% they’ll be useless unless they bring something out to use them in the near future.
And yea i didn’t u know you can upgrade them, that is good to know.

They will removed the MF , give you something in return and start another MF grind.
like what most MMO do.

If he cheat, he will just disappear when his health is low.

When attacker cover the wall, door with AOE spam, the only way to defend is wait for the door or wall to go down.
Defending reward sucks, it is more rewarding to wait for enemies to take the tower/keep , then take it back.
(Reason why total blowout don’t happen often nowadays)

A 6k backstab on 3k armor requires a significant amount of buffs/conditions to pull off. Even with a lot of power and solid crit dmg, a 6k BS hit is at the high upper end of possible damage on a non-conditioned 3k armor build.

((Weapon strength * Skill coefficient * Power) * (Multipliers)) / Armor

((806 * 2.4 * 3000) * 3.00) / 3000 = 5803

In this case we are going with 100% on crit damage plus the base 150% and another 50% from the weapon sigil, traits, etc. Stacked on a character with 3000 power and hitting from behind. Basically a REALLY glassy thief with a perfect hit.

At least it can be done from one thief.It is impossible for condition dmg to hit you for 6k in 1 tick from one attacker. Even more than 2k a tick is pretty much impossible.

Thief has one the best condition remove abilities. If condition is a issue for you, why not spec into it.

Toughness needs a serious boost in the game, as well as armor types. Having over 3k armor one should not be getting hit for 6+k.

I did some estimation.
To overpwd or swarm a lower pop server, the higher pop server just need 1.3 times the number. Not much really.
The reason is because it is harder to defend than attacking.
1)Guards is a joke.
2)With enough number attacker can AOE the whole wall.
3)Anyone get pulled down by attacker has almost zero chance for res, while any attacker killed can be res up easily.
4)Catapult can be built outside the range of most defenses and take down wall easily
It is small wonder that most successful defense happen after the walls or gate is destroyed. Good luck defending if you are outnumbered.

In present situation , the map looked ok because taking keep give way better reward than defending it. This result in keep exchange.

I have no idea how the ranking in this Leagues is based on. If it is based on total score, it will killed the lower rank server .

1)Change unmanned from outnumbered 3 to1 to 1.1 to 1.
2)Outnumbered side should be able to carry more supplies or build siege using less supplies
This should be scaled with respect to total number of people in the zone.
3)Allow siege weapon to be built inside spawn area so that spawn camping could be stopped
4)Guards strength should be scaled with number of enemies

I personally would hate to be waiting 30 minute or and hour or longer just to get into WvW. Especially since it is the only part of the game I play. STOP Complaining. Try to see the cup as half full.

Since you have long queue , I assume you are either in T1, T2 or T3 server.
So you won’t understand what it mean to be the receiving end of total blowout.

In total blowout spawn camped, you won’t have siege(it get taken out by enemies siege), you don’t even have supply to build one (since camp is taken and guarded), you can’t even leave spawn.
Fun? I think not.

WvW solutions to off peak hours

Can we nerf the gain when it is MY off-peak hour and YOUR peak time as well since at that time MY SERVER is outmanned.

It is naive of you to think that people zerg because of scores charges. It is because of loot , WXP , daily and the BEST/only way to take objective(let just stop kidding ourselves and tell people it is skill and leadership).

If you’re honestly wondering how to counter it, you should start with being honest in your post.

The damage you summed up just now took place over 5 seconds minimum from start to finish. “a second, maybe less” ? No. That’s an outright lie which can be confirmed by anyone with a low level thief. Go ahead make one. C&D something, move behind it, backstab it, then run through an entire dagger 1 attack chain. How long did it take you? I guarantee the answer is > 1 second.

Chances are you are just trolling though and I’ve just wasted my time typing up this response. Sigh.

Mug, C&D , blackstab, lightning strike takes slightly more than 1sec . You can mug , C&D , backstab from behind or from the side.
Did you try this build ever? seriously…..

TL;DR: sPvP —> thief balanced, or even slightly underpowered

Reason
1)C&D, backstab dmg in spvp is lower than wvw.
2)Lack of gear selection +no food buff etc limited their brust
3)Everyone in spvp know exactly how many thieves they face and for some reason, they are always found in checkpt.
4)Fighting using stealth in checkpt will allow the opponent to cap the point.

What kill u in wvw is most properly condition “root”, NOT the “CC”.
Think about it.
For dungeon, it depend a lot on boss, mobs ,your group , your build etc etc etc.

It won’t proc AT ALL if Backstab kill u (Hint Backsab crt can hit like 12k on armor 3k target, no idea what buff or hack he use …lol)
It is noted that OP use Exile S and still loses shortly after it gone

Only proc after crt, If you are unlucky, proc after the 10k backstab (I have seen higher hit on my 3.1k armor ranger)

Protection Injection
Most D/D thief only disable u if u survive .Even then you have 2k hp after and protection. Good luck.

Or you can focus the pet until it is close to 10% HP, so when the ranger starts to call his pet you just have to give it a final blow and you can get back to your original business with the ranger.

Seriously?
Pet Hp and regen allow pet to stand on their own against your attack especially if he is BM build.
Solution is actually quite simple, just shoot at him while avoiding the pet.
When pet goes to heal him, just fear it.

If their pet is dead, it’s actually harder to stop them getting ressed because you can’t do anything to the pet.

NOTE: Up or dead , you CAN CAST FEAR on the pet when it is healing , just don’t cast it straight away due to its initial immunity to damage when it is ressed

This type of damage was always possible. . .except I do not see a 5k+ mug included in that picture (since mug was nerfed).

So in the end after those cheesy steal-mug-cnd-backstab builds got nerfed you can’t complain and should lrn2play. . . as others suggest. ^^

You know what’s more fun? Kiling a thief!

That “nerfed” steal-mug-cnd-backstab build do 19k dmg in the picture, 21k if you add the lightning strike. I played a thief as well. I know how it feel to wait more than 3min for one solo “free” kill to appear and watch him got away.
(that is the same reason why some thief prefer dying than letting target run off)
Let face it, Thief is not useful in zerg fight(where the real reward is). Whern AOE appear all over the place, stealth isn’t that useful, so I understand why some thief want to defend their I win button.

I like how you’re ignoring the fact that this guy has 0 utilities, he’s full elixirs and isn’t even using shield to daze/knockback. After a 10k backstab he should insta elixir S, cc, heal, and kill him.

Read the log and you know that He DID use elixirs(notice the space between the lightning strike and the next attack), I bet he use heal as well (notice that the thief do more than 31k dmg to a 22k hp target, I bet he use CC, when the thief breaks it and HS him to death. (not showed in log)
Fact: If you are fighting a glass thief with ascended gear and food buff, unless you have help, you die …. fast.

kill him.

lol, easy to say than done ,especially when you have 10% hp left, used up you heal and he is 100% .

Whoever think 10k opening attack from stealth is fine need to have his head checked.
The 3 opening strikes do more than 18k and it can be done from range.

Close to 5 mins there’s a 1v4 this necro does for a while in front of a camp (but his buddy later arrives, after he’s downed 3 of them). Good enough?

Look more like 1vs 2 vs 2. It is a three way combat.

1)It WvW, God knows what his 2 other friends is geared. They maybe lvl 1 for all we know.
2)New to lvl 80 aka not geared.

Typically D/D Elementalist will kill a ranger or run away with Lightning flash ride the lightning double swiftness . (Running away is not an option is Spvp)

WvW is about killing and running away. The battle zone is also very big and open.

Spvp is more on control pt or objective. Getting kill is fine if you get the objective. Spamming range dmg on someone in the control point however is not an option even if you are able to kill him 20sec later.

Do our pets stay on the “real” player or do they get confused by the clones? In WvW there’s so many bodies (groups, zergs, etc.) I can’t tell what I’M hitting let alone what my insane pet is doing…..

Rule of thumb
If your pet hit it and number appear ,most properly you are hitting a clone.
PS: I lost control of my pet in zerg fight as well. I doubt I alone.

To OP:
1) He is hitting you hard is because You are squishy
Reason: valkyrie armor, 1.2k crt is low dmg to you.
2)His dmg isn’t high, 500 dmg isn’t much.
3)Pet can hit hard if buff by skill. Basically you are owned by someone who macro the pet.
Example:Signet of the Hunt , Signet of the Wild, increase pet dmg.
Rampage As One, increase pet might ,fury etc
Master’s Bond-Your pet has a bond with you that increases its attributes each time you kill a foe. stack 25 times
Note: If you think 2k crt /burst is OP, you should fight a heal trait thief in WvW. They crt higher , heal themselves more and you can’t kite them.
4)MOST IMPORTANTLY, you are using STAFF. A STAFF elementialist is bad against anyone. A squishy staff elementialist is terrible except in WvW zerg /castle fight.

Maybe I wrote wrongly, but I basically mean ranger dmg is more or less the same for spvp and WvW(PvE). However other classes are nerf in PVP.
That include elementalist. For example: Heal for elementalist (Healing ripple) in lower.
(there is a lot more , i just don’t bother to list them)
WvW by the way is PVE to the developer.

WvW and Spvp is very different, especially from ranger.
Ranger in Spvp has higher dmg and defence than WvW.
Other class (include elementalist) is nerf in Spvp. Ranger dmg is more or less the same .
Killing a ranger in WvW is nothing, any class should be able to do it.
That why most ranger in WvW are ranger shooter that stay with zerg.

Would you mind explaining this?

“PvP only” they actually mean sPvP/tPvP, and those changes do not effect WvW. These are only examples, but there are a lot more.

•Cluster Shot: This skill’s damage is reduced by 15% in PvP.

•Cloak and Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 33% in PvP only.

•Shield of Judgment: This skill’s protection duration has been set to 3 seconds from 5 seconds in PvP only.

•Selfless Daring: This trait had an efficiency with healing power that was reserved for healing skills only and has now been reduced to its intended level. Heal scaling has been reduced by 50% in PvP only.

•Healing Ripple: This skill’s scaling with healing power has been reduced by 50% in PvP only, as it had scaling that’s normally reserved for main healing skills. The maximum number of targets has also been reduced from infinite to 5.

Note: You can test it yourself if you don’t believe me.
Most of these update are nerf to skill in PVP (NOT WvW). And as far as I know, ranger skill is not there.

roll and invest in another profession like thief, elementalist or mesmer. wait a year and check on the state of the ranger profession then consider rolling one at that time.

Ranger is the best class in PvE (open world) farming.
I know other class can solo a champ as well, but with ranger it is easier

I was fighting a really good SB/GS ranger yesterday in WvW. We Dueled several times; It was very difficult each time, but I was able to kill him consistently with my S/D ele. You just have to spec for your condi removal, and make sure you use them appropriately.

WvW and Spvp is very different, especially from ranger.
Ranger in Spvp has higher dmg and defence than WvW.
Other class (include elementalist) is nerf in Spvp. Ranger dmg is more or less the same .
Killing a ranger in WvW is nothing, any class should be able to do it.
That why most ranger in WvW are ranger shooter that stay with zerg.

For anyone who post some “OP” 1vsX elementalist video. Please read this quote and look at your video.
Every single video has few things in common
1)All your enemies showhow lost their range weapon.
2)They try to “walk”,limp to the elementalist to hit him/her.
3)They are all very brave, they step on fire and AOE left by the elementalist to reach him.
4)Their gear sucks which allow elementalist to spike big numbers. (To be fair, almost all wvw video has this in common) while taking laughable damage.

He’s talking about PvP, not you circle-strafing mobs in PvE. No one really cares how easily you can kill mobs in PvE.

I think PvE is worst. I have lost count of the number of times the mob resetting during underwater combat because I decided to move a bit to the right.
I bet this is the main reason why most ppl face-tank in underwater combat.

To OP,
What make you think you can kill anyone with a 15k crt following by 1k~2k dmg per sec after that? Note this dmg are against REAL glass cannon, meaning no toughness at all.
Next time go to wvw and ask around, you will notice everyone has at least 22k hp. Some warrior I know of are hitting 40k and almost everyone has more than 1.5k toughness. You don’t kill faster than a DD thief in this build. If you really care about balance, why not go there and QQ about it.

To OP,
I have the armor, it hit like 13k~14k against mob in orr which is more or less one hit KO against pve mob .
However you won’t be doing anything else after that so I don’t see the problem.
Remember: churning earth has CD

Would you be able to explain how you manage to drop mobs faster than a warrior in Orr? I play D/D and find I am killing very slowly. Im a new level 80 and advice would be great.

Go Scepter/Dagger. If you have gear worth socketing, socket for Might duration. (2x Hoelbrak, 2x Strength, 2x Fire). Get a Sigil of Battle on one of your weapons.

Generally, a rotation will go something like so: Target a group of mobs -> Ride the Lightning -> Updraft -> Switch to Fire -> Ring of Fire -> Phoenix -> Dragon’s Tooth -> Fire Grab -> Arcane Wave -> Switch to Earth -> Earthquake -> Churning Earth.

At this point a couple things will have happened:

  • All the mobs you’re fighting will be at about 20% health.
  • You will have ~16 stacks of Might with a ~30 second duration, because Ring of Fire is a combo field, and Phoenix, DT, Arcane Wave, Earthquake, and Churning Earth are all blast finishers that give you stacks of Might.

-auto, auto auto, Great justice,hundred blades, auto,auto
*All the mobs he is fighting is dead.
*Your combo doesn’t kill faster than warrior unless you are telling me you can pull these off within 8sec. In fact, other than thief, no class clear mob in Orr faster than GS warrior.

Spvp- Just play other class , Rank is account -bound so you don’t need to get kitten kicked in order to “lvl” your elementalist.
Wpvp- Staff support spec which is loved by everyone except yourself (I found that it is hard to get contribution from staff dps),
Or D/D spec which is pigeon hold to 400m aka melee range.
Or re-roll other class.

1)Wait, you as a warrior claim you can 1vs 2 warrior. So I guess these 2 warrior are sucks and you are good . So what you trying to prove ?
2)Who care about ranger mobility when warrior range hit harder than theirs? Just learn to avoid the pet and you should win easily.
3)Necro are hard to kill, we know that, but their dmg isn’t that high as well
4)There is zero chance a bunker will kill a warrior so I don’t see why you complain
5)Mesmers , no comment
6)A dps Guardian can’t really heal well, maybe you should go check the class before QQ.

Possible Reason:
1)Server Lag, you actually get hit 50 times in the game, it just didn’t show up on your PC.
2)Zerg by mob, If One mob hit you for 1k , 20 mobs will intra kill you.Given that they don’t really show 20 mobs (only 6-7) at the same time , so GG to u.
3)Condition stack. Condition dmg from Dungeon mob is high and they stack fast. If one bleed hit at 400 per tick, 25 of them will hit at 10k per tick, Add in burning(8x bleed dmg), you are going to look at 14k dmg a second. Within 1.5sec, you will be dead(seen pretty instant to me)
4)Bugged. Don’t happen to my char warrior so no comment.
5)Computer virus. yaya always blame the virus
6)Avnet/dev hate you. For some reason, they love to see you die instantly
7)You are using window. We all know Linux is better than window. :P
8)The power of the Mad King has crt you .Yes they crt high

That bold part makes you sound like a Warrior fanboy or you don’t understand an Ele. Hundred Blades has piss poor range and spotty hit angles. Specially from the side. Sure it hits hard. But we have MUCH better burst AoE. Burning Speed > Drakes Breath (1.6k Damage 5.6k Burning) > Fire Grab > RoF > Arcane Wave > Earthquake (8 stacks of bleed around 5.3k) > CE > Cone of Cold.

And you sound like a Elementalist fanboy who has no idea how much dmg warrior do.
Who care if Hundred blades can’t hit everyone when a full cycle basically take out 80% of the Orr risen hp aka 10k dmg. With your cycle , my warrior can do like 3 hundred blade+ 8 auto dmg cycle(3 hit per cycle).
By the way, I don’t know how Earthquake are able to give bleed dmg (maybe some type proc that give EIGHT STACK,ps: please tell me what gear and trait you using)and your Drakes Breath Burning dmg is over-exaggerated(given that its burning duration is 2sec so you are telling me you can burn dmg is 2.8k per tick?) I am sure 99% of the elementalist can’t do that kind of dmg you boasting about , that why they have issue.

4. Missed group healing.

Shout/banner spec warrior do group healing as well. However it needed to be spec into and they lose dmg when soloing so you dont see them often in open world PvE, I see them in explor dungeon all the time

I look at this video and found out that IN EVERY SINGLE battle, she has a thief with her. PS:the thief is small and she is spamming flashy move.
I have no idea what solo move you talking about.
And all the wvw fight( I watch 2 of them) is group play which I admit she is good. But then going DD mean that she is useless in zerg fight.

It saddens me that my two favorite classes are at the bottom. I knew about the elementalist being of the least played but ranger least played? I guess after the short bow fix, then everyone dropped the class.

I still enjoy the ranger though

Actually Mesmer is the least played PvE character and ranger is one of the most played char in open world PvE. The list is accurate if you take spvp into account only.

Play in the spvp for like 10 rounds , take a tally on the number of people playing each class.
You get this
1)Thief (most Common)
2)Warrior
3)Mesmer
4)Guardian
5)Necromancer
6)Engineer
7)Elementalist
8)Ranger (least Common)
And this list somehow looks similar to contribution chart.
Maybe that answered your question.

I’m leveling my newbie lvl 16 warrior at the moment, and I would have to say that I miss the survivability of my level 80 d/d elementalist. Its just not fun when I can no longer solo 10+ enemy mobs at the same time, champion mobs solo, and all the mass AoE burst I get from D/D. I do however like my single targeting DPS much more, b/c an elementalists does have some rather poor single DPS bursting.

1)I have no idea where are you going to find 10 mob cubing together (not those lesser one that die in 2 hit) to solo. Even when I solo a event, the number of mob scale with number of players there so the maximum I get like is 4 .
2)No one can solo a champion with huge range dmg but EVERYONE can solo a champion that don’t have high range dmg. See the different? Given that rifle warrior has higher single target dmg, they have a much easier time solo a champ than elementalist.
3) While DD elementalist has good AOE dmg, it is nowhere comparable to hundred-blade.
4) the 2things elementalist has over warrior are group defensive buff (that why everyone spec into arcane) and escape tools(good for wvw).

Im full exotic and find that hard to belive. Mobs hit for 2k+ and with berserker gear you have about 11k hp. 1-2 mobs sure, but anything more seems kitten dangerous. Considering mobs have interupts and knockdowns you will be moving or looking for a WP to respawn.
Go fraps your “easy” skills in grenth room. Run in and do all your fancy jumping all over the place. I could use some entertainment watching others porting to waypoints.

It is possible to “face tank” 3 -6 mobs. Just get your Greater earth element out and let him do the REAL tanking. Needless to say , face tanking without CD and buff is downright impossible . By the way I have 5 piece exotic .
PS: I found it is hard to pull more than 4 mob in orr. The mobs are far apart and they reset after you pull some distance.
While there are places where mobs move in group , they are generally weaker in dmg and lower in hp so these 6mobs I boasted of isn’t the type that hit for 2k per hit (more like 800).

I burst down any toughness no HP build pretty fast, unless it’s a straight up bunker. Fire Grab is hitting more often, so I’ve been taking Arcane Wave over Signet of Earth lately, and it’s just made the burst that much more potent. RTL > Updraft > Shocking Aura > Burning Speed > Ring of Fire > Arcane Wave > Fire Grab can nearly kill Thieves, Warriors, and Rangers with no problem. They will be dead once I hit Earth. Often end 1v1s, and some 2v1s, with full HP.

I run 0/10/0/30/30 D/D Heal Auramancer. 14k HP, 2500 armor, 600-700 healing power. I do absolutely fine in any scenario.

I love how someone claim that he can kill a geared anyone with basically 3 combo damage (most of your other attack is CC who do little dmg). Even that noob standing there and take all the hit, he won’t die. That a fact. Every single class other than yours has more than 15k hp, hell even my elementalist has more the you do. Plus your build has zero fire trait and you claim you do higher dmg with fire ? Really?
