Forgive my ignorance but could you not have 2 servers, one in eu and us, combining to make a single ‘world’?

It’s not something I know much about is servers.

You have a major bottleneck with your RAM. 800mhz DDR2 is very outdated, considering cheap low end RAM these days is 1333mhz DDR3. The CPU should deal with the game fine, and a GTX 570 is more than enough juice, although again it’s bottlenecked by the CPU.

You have an very imbalanced system, heavily favouring the GPU there. If possible upgrade the mobo and ram. CPU too if you can.

I believe a sandy i3 processor will out do the core 2 quads despite a lower core count. You can pick those up for approximately £90 if the prices haven’t changed much over the last 3 months. As well as that, a half decent mobo will set you back £70-£80 (look at gigabyte kit). RAM prices are dirt cheap at the moment. I can find you 8gb of 1600mhz DDR3 for as little as £30-35.

I know that’s a £200 overhaul but you will notice the difference big time. For an extra £50 or so you can get an i5 ivy processor too.

Whilst i’d hardly ever use it, where I would first person view would be a huge improvement. And that is inside buildings, or places where the camera in the game has a fit.

I see no reason why not to be honest. It gains no real advantage but some prefer it (I don’t). Add first person, at least for an easy fix to an appalling camera in places.

Before the eventual stopping of free transfers would this not make sense to help balance world verses world.

Currently it’s a 24/7 battle. Good, I like that. Many complain about night capping and such though. So how about this for a solution, EU and US servers merge.

Rank 1 US with bottom rank EU
Rank 2 US with second bottom EU

And so on.

This way every servers gets their ‘night team’.
Every server will have a good population for PvE too.

The only issue i’d see is WvW number cap needing to rise, making culling even worse.

In an odd way it’d make matches fairer also.

Current top EU would have an amazing day time force, and the merger whilst improving their ‘night force’ would be relatively weak verses a top US plus bottom EU merger. And mid table servers would be moderate across the board.

Could make WvW matches closer. But of course, transfers need to stop at about the same time this happens. If it happens.

Anatax, you nailed it I do run from your kind as a Thief because I cannot hurt you enough! Backstab crits for 1.5k damage on your kind of build. And with well over 20k HP there’s no way that is enough. I’ll grant i’m not full glass cannon (20/30/20/0/0) but still..

I repeat though, people thinking 2000 region toughness is high, it isn’t. I haven’t even got toughness gear and I have around the 2300 mark on a thief. So the Guardian player a few posts above just isn’t doing it right tbh…

Either

a) Make it optional. It shouldn’t be a 5 point standard on the trait tree because of the severe downside of being a free rally for someone.
b) Make it so you cannot rally from a Jagged Horror. They are essentially suicide bombs anyway (self bleed, explode), so why rally from them? Rally from other things is fine I guess although not ideal for those who want minion master builds, but Jagged Horrors being unavoidable to get greater marks is a big deal.

Use wells
I’ve played both thief and necro and wells are a right pain in the kitten as a thief. You get in there with your melee weapons, (which is where your damage really comes from) and suddenly you’re hit with damage and vulnerability and all sorts. The staff is handy too. Staff 3 and 5 especially so. If you dodge a heartseeker, and have no evades left, drop a fear on the floor and another is countered. Now they are at half initiative.

The problem for a necro isn’t from D/D thieves but S/P thieves IMO. S/P has a better gap closer and 3 dazes. To counter a S/P thief you need to pop DS the second they jump on you with 2. Also pay attention to where they jumped from, and try to contain the battle in that vicinity so they can’t so easily dodge an attack of yours.

Stealth is fine. People just don’t see thieves because of rendering issues. I can’t see whole zergs sometimes because of rendering issues.

3.3 seconds of being out of stealth, after stealthing isn’t that short a time. Considering the initiative cost of restealthing, or the cost of blowing a minute long CD to do it.

Correct me if wrong but many of the top pvp players (not in wvw) don’t actually have thieves on their teams? I don’t pay much attention but that’s what i’ve heard. If thieves truly are that good, surely they’d use them?

To me a thief feels fun because of the speed, but annoyingly like a pubstomper class.

There is that Red Falcon too. WvW isn’t a balance point.

PvE is probably still the main balance point and Thieves are far from the best at that. I’d say that Warriors were to be honest.

A unique condition would certainly help remedy the problem. It seems bizarre that a class seemingly based around condition transfer is hindered so stupidly but a bleed stack limit disallowing half our damage if working in a group over the size of 2.

To be honest i’m not convinced they should even be in WvW. The jump puzzle that is. It takes a significant number out of the action when the whole point of world vs world is the combat and holding objectives.

I like jump puzzles. I don’t like that they are in WvW.

I’ll grant that but the light armour classes have a fair bit going for them. Thief has sod all AoE and it’s all on the shortbow. So they are mainly single target dps. We haven’t got many conditions, blinds and bleeds and a naff poison.

Necros have decent AoE conditions and can spread them further with epidemic. And some nice CC.
Elementalists have nice AoE and some decent CC.
Mesmers have confusion, decent CC and clones.

Thieves have single target dps.

I’m not saying that ele’s or necro’s are better here at all, but that mechanic makes it fairer for the high burst. It’s ele’s and necro’s needing a buff, not thieves needing a nerf IMO. Nerf thief, thief can do nothing vs warrior or guardian.

I’ve got a level 80 thief and I expect that’s a combat log issue. Heartseeker at high health isn’t worth using. And vs high armour people like Guardians or Warriors I seem to do nothing (full exotic and I’ll hit a 1.6-2k backstab in the back crit as a max, which with initiative being initiative and low survival, and stealth cd’s being large is problematic).

I dislike the bleed stack limit because if doing a dungeon with others who can stack bleeds (most classes can slap a fair few on), your addition to the bleed stack could be negligible and therefore you as a necro aren’t doing much. Makes condition builds in general across all classes dubious for such things.

Killing Dolyak’s gives a chance to pick up 5 supply as a part of the loot. Not a guarantee.
Supply camps are the only other way to get supply. Unless a tower/keep/castle already has a stockpile but i’d advise against getting it from there unless you must.

Thieves aren’t the fastest. They are the fastest with no effort (signet of shadows), but perma swiftness engineer with 33% ms bonus > 25%.

Fact is a thief is designed almost entirely around burst damage. Low health and resistances mean you need big damage. Initiative hammers this point home even more. With other classes you can blow 5 cool-downs, switch weapon and blow another 5. With a thief you can blow 3 cool-downs are you are out of initiative. Weapon swap or not. 4 if you build around initiative.

I’d like to see a torch added. Some spectral fire abilities would be sweet.

I certainly get what people are getting at though, we’re a bit constricted on weapon choice. And some of the weapons aren’t great (i’m looking at you focus).

Ok just got my level 80 thief up and was having a blast with DD and S/P weapons. Despite what people say to play a thief properly it’s quite hard.

So having done that, I’ve made an elementalist. And i’m loving some of the attunement swapping shenanigans I can now do! Having cool-downs means I can dance through the 4 attunements and have all sorts of shiny things on my screen.

Where i’m struggling is to find a best compromise weapon set. So far i’ve unlocked the sceptre, staff and double dagger sets of abilities (currently level 10).

Double dagger is probably the most fun with lightning surge and other fun abilities but it lacks range for when I get low health and want to deal damage from afar.

I find the staff a bit clunky in close combat. After the initial air 5, fire 2+3, water 4+2, earth 5 and back to air for 3 it’s awkward. That’s a bunch I just made up which basically keeps them away and helps keep them in some of the AoE’s for a bit longer. After that you can’t really keep them in anything till they all come off cool-down again, and with air 5 being a critical part of the whole setup that’s problematic. Putting fire 2 on the floor means nothing if they don’t stay in it, and auto attacks aren’t great (i talk for both pve and pvp, i know in pve you can dance in your fire 2 and the ai stays in it).

Also feel the staff is a letdown in that it has all those combo fields, and sod all combo finishers.

So if anyone has advice for me on what works for what please do help. Lack of weapon swapping is awkward to say the least but that’s for another thread.

@Mojo, when putting things into a bank why would you want your small venom sacs to take up 2 slots rather than 1?

Anyway I think this thread needs to stay alive. Even in the reduced form Mojo suggests it’s a must in my opinion.

The clock tower should be like the Twisted System minigame from the original Fuzion Frenzy. Only you have to get a minimum score to win, and the higher the score the better the prizes.

Personal high score is 156 so, 150 should be a good base?

Swiftness too rare for some professions?

Just curious what people think really. Having played a thief to 80, and having 8 character slots so i’ve played all classes to at least level 12, 12 being a guardian, I can’t help but feel some professions I use a weapon with swiftness just because it has swiftness.

The standard run speed is so bloody slow! And having played a thief to 80 and used signet of shadows for so long I can’t be without it now. Signet of shadows is the best thing in the game lol.

But seriously, as a Mesmer I felt forced to use the focus. The focus is pretty good but honestly I actually prefer the torch. As a necro it’s the same thing until you get spectral walk, but do you want to use a utility slot just for speed? The list goes on really.

Despite what I just said about necro utilities, what I propose is more swiftness of movement speed options within professions utility lineup. That way it free’s up our weapon slots and lets us actually move above snail pace across the map.

To those who are about to say, just swap before combat. I can do that. What if I get jumped (big wvw player here)?

At the moment, if I put 2 identical items in the bank, in different slots, they will occupy 2 different slots.

Simple proposed change which seems to be in just about every other game. Auto stack identical items onto one square when in storage.

With a busy bank full of all sorts of stuff for crafting it really is a pain to see yourself run out of bank slots because you have duplicate spaces.

Even as a thief, one of the squishiest classes, if I see someone use daggerstorm I just run at them and start hitting them with melee. Damage must be so high…

It’s only good vs someone who starts shooting ranged at them, which thankfully for daggerstormers many do.

The thief is kitten lucky people don’t simply evade when they stealth. Backstab would then be rendered useless, aka, our heaviest hitting ability.

Warriors even have a freakin invincibility elite. How a warrior can complain is beyond me. I don’t even moan about them but come on, invincibility on a class able to deal massive damage also?

I stealth, hit you. I’m visible for 3.3 seconds. That’s actually long enough to kill me by the way. And rinse and repeat really.

I ask yet again, what level are the whiners here? As I say, any level 80 will stomp a lowbie.

No offence, but your guild is just bad then. A warrior can bully a thief so bad that I don’t touch them anymore. If I get knocked down and hit, i’m dead. Same for Guardians, they can take such a beating that I don’t have the initiative to deal with them before somebody notices me.

I tend to avoid Mesmers as well because one misjudge of which one is real, and i’ve blown my initiative and am a sitting duck.

I don’t think you realise how bad the thief is if you mess up. Yes you can stealth and run away but the only stealth that lasts long enough to do that is shadow refuge, and you have to sit for 4 secs in a big circle before leaving. The others I think are 2 second stealths.

The thief is great don’t get me wrong, but they die so easy and people don’t seem to understand this. Where you see a death, often the thief is either on really low life or you just missed all your skills.

If you still lose to plain heartseeker spam you’re just bad to be honest. You can do 4 heartseekers max. It does pitiful damage to start and only gets decent below 50% hp. If you use 4, you can dodge 2 just using the roll, pop a utility and you have nullify 3 and if you have certain setups you can make useless all 4.

Thief played glass cannon will die very quickly. The perk is you kill others very quickly. Glass cannon vs glass cannon, a thief is designed to win really. They are glassier and cannonier than you.

As I said before, how many whiners are level 80, and how many are low levels getting stomped?

Guardians grant protection to allies (the boon)
A line that cannot be crossed, keeping ranged people safe
A shield that absorbs projectiles and heals
An AoE heal
Retaliation
A wall that absorbs projectiles

That is pretty much, keeping the damage off allies. It’s not a usual tank that can tank damage like no other, but they take a hell of a lot more damage (still require dodging) and can provide good support.

I welcome every server to get 24/7 coverage. It’s the point of WvW. Who doesn’t want to log onto WvW whenever they want and be in the midst of a tight battle?

I just hope every server can get into a state like Desolation to give real competition to everyone.

Yes of course still the 5 man minimum. Dungeons are one of the few parts of PvE that actually encourage some MMO rather than single player RPG.

And yes kind of like a Dynamic event I guess. You setup your party. Go in, dungeon is scaled accordingly and you do your thing.

I totally understand people not wanting to have to get 20 people together just to do a dungeon. But I also understand those who would like to have more of their friends come along too. So just implement it like this and both parties are happy.

Just curious, how many whiners in WvW moan about thieves but aren’t level 80? Every class i’ve played at low levels gets stomped by every other class at high levels, regardless of it being a thief.

I play a thief and am level 75 now and haven’t actually had issues with other thieves. Backstab is the easiest thing in the world to dodge, as is heartseeker. Also, without that damage a thief is trash….
I start WvW and on my lvl 20 necro I think I have 25k hp. At that level on a thief I believe I had 12.5k hp. Should the thief do more damage? HELL YES! You breath in the right direction, dead thief. Stealth is the only thing that keeps you alive, if you break it you’re dead unless you’ve dealt enough damage already.

And i’ve tried investing at my now higher level, 20 into vit and toughness and on a thief it still doesn’t make enough difference. The class is just squishy no matter what, don’t moan if they do a lot of damage. If you want them to do less, change initiative and their survival. As is, initiative regen isn’t fast enough for a sustained fight and your stealth abilities only grant you so long to get it back up. And of course, our survivability isn’t high enough either.

Did it once when an enemy thief missed all his heartseeker’s, his steal and his backstab on me and then I turned around, used steal, the stealth ability I got from steal, sword stealth move (daze), activated my chill venom, some auto attacks, then sword 2, and finished him with pistol whip. He tried heartseeking again mid fight but a couple of evades messed that idea up.

I have no issue with D/D thieves, glass cannon thieves or nothing like that. Just the ones that are like hue heartseeker heartseeker heartseeker, and don’t even take the time to be sure they hit. He was lvl 80 too, i’m a mere 75.

Once you’ve stealthed and come out there already is a stealth debuff for 3.3 seconds where you cannot stealth again.
