The condition poison alone could do half your health bar vs such a weak setup. Backstab isn’t the issue. He’s built glass cannon and you have sod all defence. Glass cannon vs no defence = dead.
A good trick is to stealth and roll directly through the other player
Really screws people who haven’t bound a key for the 180 degree turn.
As said before, the ENTIRETY of yesterday Deso held a points average into the high 200’s, matching and beating VS throughout the day (sometimes VS took a small lead, sometimes Deso). AS were nowhere to be seen yesterday, their worst performance of the week so far.
VS still seem to manage to hold a good score through most of the night, it’s only really really late, when it’s verging on morning again that Deso desolates everything.
Hopefully Blacktide will come to T1. They deserve a spot.
So what are yours?
After a while of playing I (think) I’ve come to the conclusion that I have 3 favourites.
Thief, Mesmer and the Necromancer.
I love the mobility of the thief. It really is pretty darn awesome.
I love the utility of the mesmer. Dazes, AoE quickness, cripples the lot.
I love the conditions and AoE marks and wells of the necromancer too.
As for the rest, they came up short in my opinion in one way or another.
1) Warrior. Dullest utility skills in the game.
2) Guardian. No real ranged option meaning in WvW you stand around pressing 4 on your staff a lot.
3) Ranger. Truly lovely moves let down by a naff sword and mainly dull utility skills also.
4) Elementalist. No weapon swapping makes me sad. Aside that they’re fun.
5) Engineer. Not sure what it is about them but they feel really fun, but not quite right. I think I like the option to go melee too much.

That way you haven’t got a bunch of people jumping around wasting WvW spaces. Just put the JP somewhere else. I like them, not in PvP area’s though.
Mm. Either the very top or the very bottom is the place to be. The middle fluctuates too much causing things like the last 2 matchups for Millers Sound (DE).
The trouble with consoles and MMO’s is communication. You have no keyboard, and to my knowledge there isn’t an integrated voice chat system in GW2, so you’d have to know people or make a huge effort finding a group online first to communicate to people effectively.
Kind of defeats the MM bit of MMO.
I’d like some logic puzzles or logic based things. Something like the game Ir/rational redux.

Kinda know what you feel like. As great as T1 EU is, queue times annoy me and all 3 servers are primarily zerg based.
No. But if you want a lack of queues i’ll sadly have to deter you from Desolation. It’s been getting a bit ridiculous this week…
WvW is the most amazing concept but it leaves a lot to be desired.
You are absolutely right in saying it is a numbers game. A small squad might be able to mildly annoy another server but the bigger number server will be able to dispatch some people to retake anything lost, probably well before the next points tick over too.
The problem at the moment lies in a snowballing effect.
Server A is super strong
Server B and C are ok at one time of day, weak the rest
Server A will make such a huge amount of ground when B and C are weak that it’s hard just to get out of the spawn (like you describe), even by the time it’s back to prime time. This is because
1) B and C have no supply. No supply you can’t siege.
2) Ties in with 1. Server A has upgraded keeps and forts. Without siege from B or C it’s going to take forever to bust open something.
3) When you own the whole map, you only have 2 points per map to look at. The spawns. Owning a map actually concentrates rather than disperses your force.
4) The dominant server will own the orbs, making an already out-manned team even weaker, as it takes even less people to deal with your low numbers.
5) As server A owns the map, they own the maps supply. This means that the lack of siege from B and C taking ages to crack a gate open, is even worse now as it can be repaired and also have the fort defended with heavy siege.
24/7 battlefield is absolutely the right way to go don’t get me wrong. But the way it’s set up just lets a dominant server snowball. And after snowballing, because it is so hard to get back, people stop playing.
Make out-manned buff swap with the orb buffs. That way server A enjoys fancy champion harvesting and server B and C stand a small hope of getting out of the spawn.
Upon owning X amount of a map, server B and C should get additional starting waypoints. Possibly placed at the NPC camps (ogre, hylek, dredge, quaggan).
If you own nothing on a map, maybe make a small supply dump in the spawn for those players?

Vizunah was the server who first introduced pro-nightcapping into the EU bracket and used it to cruise to auto-victory for week after week. Props to you for being smart about the implications of the scoring system and setting yourself up to exploit it in the best way, but are you now really complaining that someone else took notice and reacted accordingly?
The difference here is that the only people that were doing it on our server were us, but we maybe like German are too fairplay.
Oh please. It’s totally unfair that a game mode set up to be a 24/7 battlefield see’s a guild transfer to a server to cover a previously weak time slot? Like any EU desolation players could have stopped them coming over lol. Sorry for playing a 24/7 battlefield 24/7. Didn’t realise it should be 4/7 (6pm till 10pm i’d say is prime time).
I’d rather they were a serious threat to Dolyak’s to be honest. At the moment I believe a Dolyak can just walk straight through an enemy sentry point. The whole point of a sentry in the middle of the path in terms of WvW, appears geared towards interrupting supply.

Except you should be the one to do so. First because since the beginning of this war you’re extremely violent towards french players. Second because it is a fact that most player from the main guilds are now waking up at 1h to go to bed at 17h. Primetime becomes extremely weakened thanks to this. Also those waking up at 5h before going to work are getting extremely tired (and have trouble helping for primetime EU one ofc, although nowaday’s primetime seems to be US one…). And we can see it wasn’t even enough to counter RUIN since desolation was ticking at +540 at 5h30 (am ofc).
Keeping it clean sure, but it’s more convenient for you when it is with your BS only being readable by others.
I wasn’t anti french in any way. I was anti people hating desolation but praising the french, when they hated desolation for what the french were doing. If anything though, the attitude of some French players is making me that way. Inability to comprehend the true meaning of what is posted, mindless insults of ‘deso are crap, only ruin are good at pvd’, deso don’t belong in T1 and pitiful excuses at every moment you have a lapse in points. I saw the forces of AS last night, I was up, and there was not enough for you to say that you’re all tired in EU prime time.

It is funny how each of us has a dominant time. VS seem to have the best average at the moment, indicated by the score and that the score gap has once again widened today (albeit very small increase).
Both VS and AS. Please get out of Stonemist. We’ve only just got it haha.

Something interesting has come to my attention over yesterday and today.
Desolation: Dominant very late night time (3-5am). Solid prime time, keeps with VS. Weak morning and early afternoon. Just looking at the score.
VS: Dominant morning – early afternoon. Solid prime time, matching Desolation. Solid early night (up until 2am ish). Weak deep night.
AS: Dominant prime time. Weak as can be night time. Weakish morning – early afternoon.
Seems Deso and VS rally their points against AS in off-peak hours and AS pull back in prime time. Hats off to AS for that prime time force. Hopefully Deso can make that deep night count more than VS’s morning – afternoon and catch them

I’ve started using melee a lot. I know i’m not really any good with Mesmer yet but what I do makes sense.

Sword/Focus
The focus is there for the light combo field. With our finishers being leap and projectile, I can put down focus 4 and then either grant myself retaliation or remove a condition with the projectiles. Retaliation on melee. Very good
Well it’s the first i’d heard of it and it only took me a very short time to figure that ballista’s would counter this turtle formation. So…. build ballista’s?
Sounds to me like the counter is siege. Particularly ballistas.
Quick question. I know player skills only hit max of 5 people, but how about siege? Is that also capped?
Turtling sounds interesting. Not come across it but it makes sense.
Thing is you cannot make AoE hit everyone. If you do that it’d become ridiculous and rangers and elementalists would become supreme gods of WvW.
As for portals, I like how they are minus culling. If you cap the numbers of a portal bomb you will make it kinda crappy for WvW. Unless the number was really quite significant.
I play all to be honest. Some days I enjoy the balance that EB brings, and the importance of SM. Some days I play borderlands maps and enjoy how much better the supply camps are. I mean that supply camp south of the keep on the west of the map is amazing. The roof is great for siege and there’s a hill at the other side of it where you can also play siege. The gate makes a nice choke too. Supply camps sure feel a bit more important on BL maps. If I do play BL though, I never seem to play my own servers one. I much prefer working my way up from the south rather than jumping off a million cliffs to get anywhere.
A few want 100% map completion. But that doesn’t account for all of it. Some move for friends.
I’m interested in what the first GW2 expansion does for the game regarding end game content. At the moment PvP and WvW are the saving grace for level 80’s in my opinion.
With that low survival, if the Thief gets the jump on you, goodbye. Of course if you manage to catch the Thief, bye bye Thief.
Oh I like the night capping thing also. Makes it so everyone, anywhere can play. A constant battlefield is a good idea. Just trying to think of something to balance the constant battlefield to get rid of cry babies.
Going to hop into my favourite bit of GW2, WvW. Just want some friendly advice for Mesmer.
Come a large battle am I
a) Staying with the main force using my abilities to hit the enemy main force
or
b) Acting a bit like the Thief in that I skirt the edge of the battlefield and pick people off
Reason I ask is, most Mesmer damage seems focused on 1v1. However the Mesmer has great support or AoE condition on the staff also, which would be grand in groups. Focus 4 for the pull, wall of stealth, portal, staff 5 for boons or conditions on enemies, ripping all conditions from allies and boons from foes etc.
Or is it, as I kind of hope, my choice. Not like the Thief (felt boxed into being the skirting playstyle with a Thief, which whilst a crap load of fun, i’d have liked to change up now and again).
It is a good game. Would just love WvW to be free of the bugs, the game more optimised for hardware and more Quaggans.

It’s not just Thieves but yes, it’s half of why people moan about Thieves in WvW. ‘OMG invisible 90% of the fight’. Most of them don’t know you can’t re-stealth for 3.3 seconds after un-stealthing. Rendering bug makes it appear you can just stealth and stealth.
Xanti. Miller’s Sound is on a rampage anyway you’ll be fine even without the US :P Seriously though, that’s probably the best point against my idea. As US servers are all English speaking it would make those language servers not as they are.

Only if you build glass cannon. Thieves = counter to glass cannon. People saying ‘but I have 2100 toughness so I should tank’ are plain daft. I built a glass cannon thief before changing to my current 20/30/20/0/0 build, and had MORE TOUGHNESS than that. On a squishy class.
Lower 2000’s toughness is not high. It is low. Upper 2000’s (2700+), is fairly high and 3000’s is high.

You could trait the engi to the long range of other classes (1200).
When searching for armours, currently you can only select the body part it’s for. Why not add an additional condition for light/med/heavy armour types?
If you want damage at 1200 range, you probably want to look at the Warrior. Good single target damage and the longbow has some nice stuff too.
Main example would be off-hand dagger fire skill 5. 45 seconds, for what at least at my level, without burn is about the same as an auto attack, and with burn is the same as 1.5 auto attacks… 45 seconds?
Lol I knock Scritt shiny things over for the hell of it all the time. Irritating little buggers. Not seen the Hylek in-game yet, might do that on an alt. But the Quaggan’s… THE QUAGGAN’S! No idea why they’re so likable lol.
It’s an MMO. They’re all more CPU than GPU intensive because of the number of people playing it.
That said yes, Anet does appear to not have optimised this game very well, although i’m finding it playable still.
I have no idea why, but I just love these little guys. All the ooo noises and Shashoo’s insanely high pitched voice.

But to all those who have played the story and met them, who else likes these little guys? Namely the order of whispers quest.
I’d like them as a playable race for the fun of it haha.

Oh I understand your point. Sorry if I didn’t make it clear that whilst I agree with you, your system isn’t balanced. Might have came off sounding as if it is all your system. Although I do question why you have a GTX 570 for that resolution lol.
Question though, is it fine until a large fight (aka a world vs world zerg fest)? Because thats the only time my pc slows down really. And when you’re in those situations, have you checked the frame rate to be sure it’s that and not a internet ping issue?
Not really pathetic. It’s valid. What I dislike is people saying Desolation doesn’t belong in tier 1, or Desolation aren’t a challenge. We clearly are.
Also the myth of RUIN because massively larger in numbers was disproved last night by us deso players being outmanned in the night by VS.
Anyway, it’s a close matchup. Enjoy it, they aren’t common.
Merging servers would guarantee a degree of eu and us prime time players. Yes there’s still the other parts of the world but it’d at least eliminate that part of the issue.
