Posvio, there is no best. If you pick one you will lose the other. Basically pick the top three that matter to you most.

Vitality = more health (helps with Condition Dmg)
Toughness = less physical direct dmg (burst and warriors)
Condition Damage = bleeds, burns, poisen, etc, Any damage over time skills
Critical Damage = chance to crit on a hit, higher better
Precision = how accurate your every hit is
Power = how hard you actually hit

So all of these are important. If you are building your guy to burn, then Condition Damage might be important, to increase how long and how much your enemy burns.

If you are looking for burst dmg, Precision, Crit and Power are main components here, but you become a Glass Canon (all power and no defense)

If you want to survive WvW onslaught, Toughness and Vitality are top stats here.

So everything is important.

Look through traits, pick what looks best for you and then add the rest via gear. Don’t just go for one single stat.

Also Healing Power important, it improves your heal skill. If you are caring a staff, definitely put +Healing Power on it, then switch to it to Heal.

sigh, makes me feel like the guardian is a foot soldier rather than any form of a tank

You can make a tank if you like with the mace/sword, but you wouldn’t put out any dmg

Range with Gaurdian, does it worth it?

They need to make the staff #1 skill 1200 range to match the staff 2 skill
And they also need to add a bleed or something else to the scepter 1 ability.

Both specs would be pretty viable if this was the case.

Would LOVE to see 1200 range on a staff!

Hammer Time!

Hammer is great for control. I mainly use it to lock people in. When I am chasing them hit (3), then as soon as you are there (5). Then have fun with them with the GS.

exphryl, Precision is from Radiance (25) and gear. I mainly stack anything with Vitality first, then Toughness+Precision/Condition Dmg. Still working on the gear though, running in yellows still.

I was gearing for PVE as well, but now I finished the story and 100% Orr, PVE seems a little boring. I go out with guildies and participate in dungeons and help lower levels.

Once I tried WvW, there is no going back, especially as a Guardian. My game style in WvW seems more like a berserker than a Paladin. When I see a group of reds, I leap in to it and raise hell. Judge’s Intervention, Ring of Warding, Blinding Blade (KD), Whirling Wrath and Symbol of Wrath. I can execute all that within 2-3 seconds, enemy has no clue what hit them.

But then I have to rely on my guildies to catch up to me and save me If they don’t I have to pay repair bill. LOL

It’s a much funner game style than a range character in my opinion. Theif would be on par with all the teleporting around crap.

The range only matters in WvW. In sPvP and PVE, use close combat and learn how to roll.

In WvW, guardian place is under the gate, bashing the door and keeping the repairers out. I’ve Finished quite a few heros trying to repair a gate.

Otherwise, keep the range players safe on the ground and pick off the stragglers or bring a Batista.

Yup, 125 that would be the most heal per tick you’d get. Granted you hit every mob with every spin. Didn’t seem liable to me. I’ve talked to quite a few Guardians who specced 30 in zeal though and they say they can see a difference. I’ve beaten up quite a few mobs in Myst and kept losing fights with 30 zeal.

exphryl, same build, except utilities. I use wall of deflection (LOVE this thing for WvW), Judge’s Intervention (to catch up to those pesky rangers/mesmers) and Signet of Wrath to lock them in so they don’t run.

I ended up going with 25/25/20 (zeal, radiance, honor). Seems to work well for me. Stacked Vitality and Toughness through gear. Running around WvW with 19k health right now, hit like a truck.

I switch between staff and hammer, usually have staff for running or assaulting castles as support and switch to hammer during face to face fighting to lock people in.

When (not if) I get to you with the GS pull (5) after leap (4), I switch to hammer, lock you (5), throw you (4), smash you (2), switch to GS and spin! After that if you don’t have friends you are pew pew with rocks at me, while I finish you.

The idea is to use with your spin, but spin picks up 5 mobs at the most, so it’s 125 per tick. I am still not sure it’s worth it. Like you said, when you get hit for 1k, 125 heal isn’t impressive. I ended up not picking it and went for Honor 20 instead (25/25/20). I sure love the 20% 2h skill time reduction, a total life saver those extra 2 seconds.

Player housing?

Besides the typical “coming after launch”, has there been any more information revealed about player housing?

With people hitting 80 so quick, the end game is going to get bland pretty quick (yes I am at 90% map, both crafts at 400) and pwning WvW. Still having a blast. But still hoping GW2 will make a difference from DAOC, EQ2, Rift and offer much better player housing than a lonely instance. GW2 devs, think Ultima Online housing, not all other instanced bs.

The cost of helping friends

To travel anywhere push H, go to the Myst and then jump into Lion’s Arch, then you can tp to any city. I’ve been doing that since lvl 20 to save on the coin.

Don’t over pull in lower zones, you are a lot stronger with better gear, but you are still down scaled.

You should get a ton of Karma and Coin from new hearts and events playing with your friend.

I’m maxed lvl80 and still enjoy jumping into unfinished newbies areas to help friends, just got to travel smart and watch what you pull to fight.

Toughness vs. Vitality

in Players Helping Players

Kazak.8459

MoJoe, I am in the same boat with my guardian. The way I understand it works Toughness prevents physical/projectile damage received. It doesn’t stop bleeds, burns, or any other debuffs. You can use Condition Removals to stop the conditional damage. Having high Vitality helps with Conditional Damage. The arrow carts and siege weapons are considered Conditional Damage and not projectile (from beta reading). So hammering down the wall as a guardian, Toughness has no protection at all, having high Vitality gives me a chance to res a fallen comrade or smash the wall down with my hammer.

So I am stacking Vitality, Power and Healing Power right now and some Toughness on my accessories.

Would love to hear other’s point of view.

Yup same reaction here, a huge disappointment. I didn’t care much for all the tossing around the ship either. I thought lvl 15 battles were much much harder than Zhaitan

Guardian hp bugged?

I’m just saying the 25hp you get for swinging your greatsword is not what I rely on to stay alive.

Totally agree, do you actually see the 25hp green heal numbers come up? I don’t even see that.

Guardian skills bug (Whirling Wrath and Zealous Blade trait)

Coronach, that’s what I did in the Mist on the training NPCs. I usually see green numbers pop up from a mace healing, but I saw no numbers at all from Zealous Blade and a greatsword. In BWE3, I saw very minimal healing done, but now I don’t see any at all.

Since the last patch I noticed the circle on the ground doesn’t appear from Whirling Wrath about 50% of the time. The effect from the skill is there, but not the graphics.

Zealous Blade trait from Zealous Guardian line doesn’t heal at all. Or if it does, I haven’t seen any green numbers pop up like from Mace skills or rolls with Honor line traits.

Kazak.8459

Zealous Blade is still broken from Beta as far as I can tell. Been smashing training dudes in Mist all night last night, never saw a single heal pop up.

Loss of hp on a guardian is very tough now due to everyone running a condition dmg build, which soaks through our hps pretty quick. Toughness doesn’t help condition dmg at all, so we are basically forced to dump a full trait line into Vitality to have any face to face survival.

Level 16 guardian story quest too hard / bugged

Seems to me most personal quests are hard if done too early. If your quest is in red, don’t attempt it. It’s too hard.

I like to do my quests when I am 1 or 2 levels above the suggested level or on the suggested level.

Also, you could always bring a friend or a guildie to help you with your Personal Story.
