I still need to finish reading, but evading at the same time as the ranger does seems like big common sense to me. It’s not at all overrated, we should be able to make them dodge at least when we see a crucial need to, atm we’re powerless on keeping them alive even if we see a massive slow easily dodgeable hard hitting aoe that our pets will have to eat up, most we can do is call them back out of it and hope they catch up in time.

I disagree with the idea that pets dodge with the player. The reason is that in real life, pets don’t dodge. Have you ever been on a hunt with a small pack of dogs? I have, and I have never a dog (or hunting cat) ever dodge. In fact, it is actually hard to get a dog to disengage from a fight, a cat simply will not disengage period.

Who’s “we”? I’ve had no noticeable lag at all, and no disconnects; for months now.

I don’t know who to blame here, but whatever the problem is, it isn’t widespread across all players. To be fair though, maybe the lag and disconnects just occur when I’m not playing :p

You sir might be one of the people who live in the USA if i’m correct, I live in Australia – it’s frustrating to play a game with lag for a year and a month now, but that lag was playable, at the moment it isn’t.

There are a lot of people in NA that are experencing lag and frame rate issues. I thank my lucky stars that I have not yet disconnected. I really wish they paid as much attention to the performance of the game as they do to this bi-weekly living story.

Didn’t they say that Guild Halls should be in the game within the first year after launch? Then again, I still have not found a reason for “home instances” to exist other than as the sole sorce for quartz crystals.

The top five issues with Guild Wars 2 that need to be corrected (as I see it) with the current client:
1. Performance – If your computer meets the recommended specifications the game should run at 60FPS with no issues (if all required drivers and the OS are up to date). That does not happen. As I see it the performance issues that are still in game use to mean that the game would still be in beta.
2. Targeting – At the very least explain to us how the game prioritizes targets. Auto target should pick the closest foe, if there is no foe then an available neutral target closest to the player. What actually happens seems to depend on where you are, sometimes using the next target picks a mob way off in the distance sometimes it picks the one that is beating on you. Either way, the next time you try to target, it will not do the same thing.
3. Rewards for combat – I still can’t understand how soloing a Veteran Risen Giant can end up with not a single drop, that’s right nothing.
4. Home Instance – Other than the only farming spot for quartz crystals, does this area serve any function? The answer to that question is a single word: no. What happened to all of the features that were promised?
5. Guild Halls – A year has pasted and we still don’t have them nor do we have any clue what these promised guild halls would do for us.

I really think the best fix for the first item would be to offer a 64bit multi-core processor optimized client. All of the other issues could be fixed in the current client if and only if (please don’t laugh) fixing issues becomes a priority with ArenaNet.

3. More on the GPU then the CPU.

It doesn’t work like that.

All I can say about this that my CPU never approaches 20% usage. I have an AMD FX-8350 (they call it an 8 core but it is really a quad dual core). Anyway, the highest usage I have ever seen (and I monitor it always) is one core at 65% (Core 3 if I remember right) while the all the other cores were at about 10-15%. They really need to utilize all the cores available before they start off loading to the GPU, perhaps then the GPU can display graphics rather than sputtering around trying to run the game itself (which is what appears to be happening right now).

It’s nice that you have “a team” working on the most important issue facing GW2. My question is why only “a team” as this is a vastly more important issue that the living story. I would seriously advise moving to a 64bit client or at least offering one. There are so few people on 32bit Windows anymore… The performance improvements alone would be worth it.

I’m not going to claim to be a programmer of 30 years, but I will say this. When wow launched it’s 64bit client my fps doubled. A 64bit client in Gw2 would mitigate the pain that is WvW. Please stop trying to convince yourselves that a 32bit client is just as good as a 64bit client. Even a monkey knows it’s better to have 64 bananas over 32 bananas.

Too bad your comment will never be heard. A 64bit client would go a long way to fixing a lot of issues. So would moving from DirectX 9c only to 10 or 11. Wait a minute; we were promised GW2 would support DX 10.

There is another thread in Tech Support covering the same topic. Be happy to know that you are not the only one. I have been seeing a lot of complaints about it in LA.

This is the first time that I have been affected by very bad lag.

At the time the lag started I was changing sound cards to a Sound Blaster Z, I changed back to my old card (an X-FI) and the lag went away. Thinking I had fixed the issue I did what I was planning to do then logged out. The next day when I logged in the lag was (and is) back. Normally I get 50-60FPS with my 6950 2GB video card. In large zergs my FPS would drop to around 25FPS. Now the best I can do is 12FPS (that is looking at the ground with an empty (mob free) field of view). My pings have not changed, nice and steady at about 25-30ms.

I have changed video card drivers (not once but three times to older and newer versions), two different sound cards, three different sets of sound card drivers, I have tried two different drivers for my Xeno network card; shoot I even formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Nothing has changed still 2-12FPS even thought everything is running great. In Guild Wars 1 my FPS went from 175 to 260 average (with a clear field of view).
As you can imagine this has taken all the fun out of playing the game.

I have decided that I will not be purchassing another gem card until this issue is addressed. I know that one person spending an average of $50.00 a month is not much but if we all do it perhaps ANet will finally address this issue in a serious manner.

The thief is a good choice as long as you keep his gear up. Replace it every five levels (if you can) or you will get owned. You will need to be very careful about how many foes you draw in. Once you figure out how to play a thief you may like them. Personally I don’t care for them at all. Too fragile.

I don’t mind them putting “Activity Participation” into the daily mix. What I dislike is that they include what I would class as PvP in it. The first two activities were PvP based games. If I wanted PvP I would do sPvP or WvW. I don’t like that they are trying to pass of these games as PvE.

I had no problems getting this with my pet, on the first try on my account. On my wife’s account it took about six tries to get it but I was able to do it. A friend of mine has tried ten times and is still unable to get it.

Out of curiosity… Would there be a notification of some sort to let you know that an additional reward would be available and that you must speak to so and so to receive it?

I would love to see a villager come running up to you asking you to come to the pub. If you had already left the village, the villager can’t find you you don’t get the message or the reward.
On a side note; this is something we were told a few years ago that GW2 would be doing. Sad to say that this falls into another broken promise.

While I did not really like most of Factions, I did like Cantha. It was a great place to explore until you had to sell your drops.
I too would love to see Cantha restored to the game. As for fears that Cantha’s existance might offend some asians, I don’t really see how. Cantha is a fictional place not ment to represent any specific asian culture. So what part of FICTIONAL do they not understand?

In my experience, most people do not use a gaming mouse. Who does? People that use gaming mice are at least quasi-serious about their gaming and demand a higher level of performance from their mice. I have used two different versions of the Razer DeathAdder, my wife is loving her SteelSeries GW2 mouse. But remember that these mice are designed and built for performance not durability.
The Razer DeathAdder mouse has a habit of losing their left clicking ability. From what I have found the SteelSeries does not have the issue. Gaming mice are designed for performance first, durability is something that is not really a focus, there are exceptions of course. How long a mouse will last you is determined by how you use the mouse. For me a DeathAdder last about four years, for my wife about seven years.
A word of warning, if you buy a high resolution gaming mouse, you will need to relearn how to use it. I advise using your new mouse at the highest setting and adapt to it. Remember if you have to move your hand more than an inch you resolution is not high enough. I have the setting on my mouse so high that I can move the cursor across both screens with less than half an inch of finger movement, no hand movement at all.

OK, I am the odd ball here. The update did not affect me (other than my Black Widow Spider) all that much. I am so very happy ArenaNet fixed the pet rez, it was really scary watching my pet do 1300 points of damage to me every few seconds! Rangers have always been very functional and fit my play style very well. I have never understood why some people complain about pets in dungeons, unless of course those doing the complaining just don’t want to adapt to dungeons. It took me about five minutes to figure out how to manage my pet in AC, proved the method in HotW and SoF. Since then I rarely lose my pet, there are some areas of each dungeon that are exceptions of course. I played a ranger main in Guild Wars, a ranger that went through all three chapters, acquired all pets (most were never used in PvE or PvP just capped, levels and turned in) and maxed out her Hall of Monuments using a single pet (Wolfie) and a single GP build with lots of survivability in it. Yeah, I got lots of complaints about not doing enough damage, that usually (but not always) ended when I rezed the complainer.
I have found that Rangers are, just like in the original game, one of the strongest PvE profession in the game, if it suits your play style. I have tried Necromancers, Elementalists, Warriors and Thieves and I just don’t get how to play them. My ranger consumes about 95% of my game time, and I have no regrets that my ranger is my primary.
Now if only there was a good looking legendary, but that is another story.

I finally got a single authentication e-mail, which naturally led me into thinking that the issue was fixed. The e-mail was several hours old before I noticed it but I tried to use the link contained in the e-mail. The authentication server told me that a follow up e-mail was dispatched to my e-mail address (it has yet to arrive) and I need to re-authenticate before I could log into to do my dailies. After several attempts I ended up disabling e-mail authenication again, which caused an error. It took about two hours to be able to log in again.
I still have high hopes that I will be able to reactive e-mai authenication. Any ideas as to how soon that might happen?

Wow, that is a lot of work you have put into this. I really hope they take advantage of it.

LOL – The PvP community was the first to leave Guild Wars. As for sPvP, does anyone really care? Nothing that happens there has any effect on the rest of the world (that I know of). From what I can tell, there is no real reason to play sPvP. If I am wrong, please tell me what rewards there are that I can not get almost any place else. Why should I play sPvP? From what I have see so far, sPvP has gotten far too much attention from the devs, as can be demostrated by it’s existance.

The latest update has made it even more necessary than it was. Everyone is now farming the lower levels and doing dailies.
I really think they need to add Orr to the daily zone rotation. Orrian Champion Slayer ect…

I have always played Warrior, but would love to play Ranger. The reason I don’t is because of pets. They move so weird, side to side and not realistically at all. If I could even pay like 800 gems to have an option to disable my pet as Ranger. I know I can stash it, but when I enter combat is comes back. Please!

I am not trying to troll you but I think you need to learn to control the pet. If this is ever allowed I would kick any and every ranger without a pet from any group I was in. Simply put, a pet accounts for anywhere between 30 to 55 percent of the damage you can do depending on wich pet you choose.

I would love to be able to get a legendary that is not a weapon. Currently I am working tword a war-horn because it is the only ranger legendary that, to me, looks half way acceptable.

All of my game crashes are caused by unprofessional Sound Blaster XTream Gamer X-FI (from Creative) drivers for my sound card. That was a fairly easy reg-hack to fix. I would advise looking at the drivers for your hardware. Remember that newer is not always better.

ANet, please ignore this thread. In GWs we could see the drop and it was announced in the chat bar. It got to the point that most people simply did not bother to pick up thier drops. I like this method better in that respect. I do wish it was easer to see a drop from underwater foes.

Swamp Drake has the best Drake F2, because its ability will actually hit.

It can hit targets behind him, It can bounce, its got 900 range vs 600 ranger, and its got a condition (poison) and it does fairly decent damage.

The other ones blow for anything other then PVE.

Try using guard and/or forcing your enemy (if they’re melee) to either stop attacking me or eat the drakes breathe, both have proved to be quite amazing uses of the drake breathes for me in PvP, although i do agree, Swamp Drake has the easiest to land breathe PEIOD, but as such it’s the weakest (still kittening strong though).

With some calculations , it seems that both insect swarm ( 2*( (5*61) + 5*(252) ) = 3130 ) and fire breath( (5*305) + 1640 = 3165 ) have equal damage , while lightning breath is the weakest ( 2*(5*97) = 970 ).
Besides , insect swarm rarely misses while the fire breath misses alot. As a result , Marsh drake is the best drake to use.

Quick update, I might add it to my video, but marsh drake doesn’t quite do the damage salamander or river drake does (even with poison). Your just going to have to take my word for it, but against 3 targets I was able to deal 6165 direct + 3780 poison = 9945 damage versus the 11k+ from both salamander and river drakes. In PvP (any form) most players won’t let you get a 15s poisons to last full duration on them or they will die before it ends so expect real world results to be much lower. However, it is the easiest to land while still bouncing between targets.

And to those of you talking about other pets (jaguar) I think the op was asking/telling about what F2 abilities were the strongest in terms of reflected damage. Technically, jaguar F2 does 0 damage.

So which is wrong , my calculation ( appears that insect swarm does the strongest damage ) or the wiki ?

I would half to say your calculations are wrong. I know from testing that the river drake does the most damage, just as the bear can take the most damage.

Honestly, every page in this thread should have this link (except the page that has the posts in question).

That was a great post, no two ways about that. He properly identified most of the issues with Guild Missions and provided several ways to address those issues. My only problem is that he missed the simplest and easiest fix. Allow small guilds to form alliances in which all of the guilds would gain influence generated as by the activities of individual members of any component guild. But that opens up a whole new can of worms.

I fully agree, Rangers are the best profession in the game. Using a GP build (no trait higher than 20) I consistantly much on every other profession other than thieves on those rare trips into WvW.
There have been several times when playing in small groups where I was the last one standing at the end of a hard fight. It is interesting to note that quite often mobs will focus in on and chase a ranger before they can be bothered with a warrior.

It’s not just armor, my materials tools go to the first available slot when I change from one type of tool to another. This really sucks. I hope it’s fixed in the new build.

Both my wife and I are experencing this error while trying to update the game client. No error code, just the message.

Sorry but if your guild is 5 man, thats a group not a guild, there does have to be some restriction. we cant have every small guild dropping events endlessly.

I have never been in a guild larger than 10 people that was worth being in. Way too much drama. Any guild larger than (lets say) 15 people should be called a mob, not a guild.

Last night twords the end of the fight with Jormag I took a screen shot to report a person for flying in the air who was also attacking Jormag. The problem was that as soon as I pressed the screen shot key the game locked up. After a few seconds the music changed (which indicated the battle had ended) but nothing on the screen changed. I ended up using task manager to close down the game and I then relaunched it and was able to collect my reward from the chest. The event rewards (a few silver, karma ect) were not awarded.
Once again, during the fight with Jormag, my X-FI Xtrem Gamer was over loaded to the point that most sounds were not playing. For most of the fight the only sound working properly was the background music.
I am not going to attach the screen shot because it includes dozens of charactor names.

At least you have paw prints. No one I know of leaves foot prints.

I fully agree with this, Maryeli has done a great job on icons. To the list of weapons that need accurate icons please add both the Peacemaker Longbow and Shortbow.

I have had this happen to me twice; Once during BWE2 and again last week. Both times it was very easy to tell that it had terminated abnormally.
Here is what happened: I pressed F12, clicked the Log Out button. The game client closed but the “boot-launcher” (My term not ArenaNets) did not display. I think that means that the client did not change modes; from game to launcher.
If the client had closed normally the “boot-launcher” should have been displayed again.
Closing it using task manager has had no side effects that I can tell, the game appears to be runing fine.

If you did not close the game, you may be having an issue with sleep mode. Turn it off and see if that fixs it. Looking forward to hearing back.

I had this happen again, I thought it was fixed. Anyway; it appears that my Sound Blaster Xtrem Gamer got over-loaded while trying to play all of the sounds while fighting the Claw of Jormag. First some sounds starting cutting out (like the sound of my bow firing) then entire swaths of sounds cut out, then all the sound cut out followed a second later by the loud hum.

He can put everything (other than the skill) into his personal bank to save them, because they are only generated once. If he deletes his first toon without first moving the items into the bank they are gone with no way of getting them back.

Gail; thank you for spurring the techs to look at my case (130105-002862). The issue is turning out to be quite a nightmare and well beyound the scope of what I had hoped would be needed to correct.
I never thought it would be such a nightmare to reenable e-mail authentication.

What server are you on? It sounds to me like we need to look at your play style and to do that the best thing to do is to play with you for an hour or so to see what you are doing. When I was level 16 I could take down level 25 mobs with little problem.

I have a ticket (130105-002862) that is several weeks old, I have not heard a thing since it was escalated a little over a week ago.
The problem is that when I reenable e-mail authentication I don’t recieve the e-mails, which is strange considering that I do recieve the e-mails from support which has the same source (guildwars2.com).

A few months ago I had to deactive IP authentication for both my wife’s account and my account. How do I reactivate it? I went to the site where I deactivated it however it does not provide a activation option?

There are some aspects of GW that I miss, such as guilds actually being guilds. I think that we should be allowed to join one guild only (charector based). The account based guild system used in Guild Wars was a mistake (the current system I see as an admission of that). The current system is (as I see it) worse than not having guilds at all.
I miss guild halls, if we had real guilds we would really need these but as we don’t have real guilds I guess we don’t need them. That puts them in the nice to have group.
I miss beign able to select a set of skills to use as my build. We don’t really have builds right now, all the important skills are assigned by the weapon you are using.
Titles, oh man so much to say about the lack of titles in GW2. It’s not that there are none it is that no but you can see them! The majority of the titles in GW2 are much ado about nothing. In GW titles were an acomplishment that had to be worked for. In GW2 titles are so easy to aquite as to be worthless, which is why we can’t display them (I guess).
One thing that really ticks me off about GW2 is mapping. Why should I as a PvE player have to do PvP to get 100% of the world mapped? I am so angery at this that I am at a loss for words. There were several weeks where I simply could not bring myself to bother logging in when I finished exploring only to find that now I had to PvP to get 100% of the world explored.

I would love to see something along like this even if it was just a column titled “Date last played” or something like that.
