I sincerely doubt that the overflow was meant to allow people who did no access the event to access it.

Terrible idea. The shared cooldown on both sets for the sword forces me into melee range on a BESERKER’S AMULET. Similar trait lines with a GS/Staff is much more potent and is more efficient at a longer distance.

I have no problems with pugs as well. Perhaps it is an aftereffect of leading multiple AC firstimers, but I find most people I work with to be a pleasant experience.

I think we’ve been through this many times already. No. Simply ask the person what armor he’s wearing if you want to know. Also dueling is a bad idea as people with huge egos will just ask for 1v1 to settle personal vendettas.

My opinion of Magic Find.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kid Taylor.5479

I find that much of the hate on magic find is unquantified. What people need to do is to run a double blind test with some people over a large skill range wearing magic find and some people not wearing magic find in a certain set dungeon and have the rest of the teammates try and deduce whether the guy was wearing magic find. I expect results to be very surprising.

None of your ideas will be implemented because they are huge overhauls to existing skills and there is no precedent for making such a huge overhaul, nor would it be a good idea to set a precedent for doing so.

Does Rune of the Monk x6 Grant you Aegis?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kid Taylor.5479

Kid Taylor.5479

I recently finished my AC armor set with six Rune of the Monk on them. The final rune should grant Aegis to surrounding allies for thirty seconds, but I am not seeing the effects at all. Can anyone who is running Rune of Monk confirm if this is working?

If it is not working and buggy please reply as well. So far, I have not seen the effects of this rune.

If it is working, a few questions:

1.If this is activated on elite skill usage, does the aegis last constantly for thirty seconds or does it block one attack and wear off?

2. Is the thirty second duration affected by boon duration buffs?

3. Does the effect radius start from you or from the skill AOE? E.g I play an engineer, is Aegis granted in an AOE around you or in the AOE from a supply drop?

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kid Taylor.5479

After reading the article, I was happy and sad for two different things. One thing that greatly disappointed me was the obviously broken promises of “no gear treadmill” which was promised in this game. I fear that one day, when player progression goes too fast, there will be yet another tier between ascended and legendaries. If this game does go down this road, that’s sad.

A good thing is, these new ascended seem to be only marginally better than exotics. The difference in the traveler rings is only a mere +5 stats, you would need your accessories slot to be fully ascended to get a +25 boost to power and precision, which is very negligible.

This may change with armors though. If ascended armor sets give a flat out 25% extra defense/stats over exotics, that would be nuts.

I can see the rationale for having ascended armor for the dungeon, as the agony mechanic will force players to change armors, and if “infusions” worked like normal runes, players would have to either choose between their normal armor, and run the dungeon at a disadvantage, or run around the world with infusion armor which gives no benefits outside the dungeon, also at a disadvantage.

I disagree with putting a whole new armor set into the game for the sake of a dungeon, but when it is released, my opinion may change.

some exotics cost as much as legendaries

I don’t get it, if you think that they are better looking than legendaries, what’s to stop you from acquiring them? The only thing that will be missing is that you don’t have a purple label on the weapon. To me, that’s not such a big deal so long as the skin is nice on the outside.

Opinions, opinions, opinions everywhere. I make it a rule not to trust anyone who says “trust me” over the internet.

I find it ridiculous that the proposition is completely ignoring the main problem with such a suggestion and pretending that there is no valid argument behind it. Well, I guess I’ll have to do it too.

Nobody has come up with a real argument against such a suggestion granting players with legendaries an advantage or “convenience” as proponents like to emphasize. So why would I go for exotics when I can have a legendary which is seven exotics in one?

Kid Taylor.5479

I am against this. If you are making a legendary weapon, it should only be because you like the skin on it, not because it grants you additional stats/ advantages over normal weapons. Doing so would move legendaries into a tier higher than exotics, causing a gear treadmill that will never end if the trend of added “benefits” for higher tier weapons keeps going.

Strange that you use a caster as an example when there are multiple invisibility type assassins in Dota2. I would assume that there are none who are effective at killing people at the highest level?

You are right that there is no power progression in GW2 while there is one in Dota 2. To me, I don’t think it changes much, nor is it a valid argument. All it would mean is that GW2 is set at the highest level where each class can perform at maximum capacity. There is no mechanic in GW2 that disadvantages casters as time goes on.

While an argument can be made that between the two games, there is a risk in assassinating people with burst/locking heroes because they are weak early on, the removal of the rpg nature of Dota 2 does not change how you yourself have fully explained the weaknesses of thieves or any other burst damage characters.

“So in short, she has to setup her kills, has a small window of time in which to be effective, can only kill certain types of enemy hero and can easily die herself.”

As you yourself have said so, thieves have these glaring weaknesses.

The only thing I believe has merit is the invisibility point. Are thieves too hard to kill because of invisibility? No, in a game where there is straight up full damage mitigation, invulnerability and personal evades, invisibility is relatively weak as a defensive and escape mechanism.

I also believe that the conversation has strayed. The question was whether thieves/burst damage builds would deter casual players from playing the game because they are too overpowered. (something that I contest due to their weaknesses)

The answer is apparently not. Your argument hinges on how if such players are killed by such classes/builds that they will quit the game. While I do not have solid evidence, what has been a rising trend is the increase of the numbers of thieves and mesmers in hot join pvp from comments on the forums and personal play. This is only an observation, but if anyone has numbers to prove/disprove this trend, or even better, show that there is a downward trend for these two classes, I gladly withdraw the argument.

If there are more people playing these classes/build at the “casual” level, does it increase the popularity of the game? Certainly it does, because it is strong, easy to pick up and fun. How does this hurt the casual game?

What I believe is happening now is that people are just discovering how burst builds are able to take down many badly specced builds in spvp. As more people discover these builds, more people will try them out, and realize for themselves the weaknesses of such builds in hot join.

I would like to ask how is an assassin/killer in Dota2 different in role as compared to burst damage dealers in GW2. I would also like to ask what is the key difference between them, in terms of roles and complexity of use.

Funny you mention the two games with high learning curves, and high probability of being chain-stunned to death as soon as you meet another player. So why exactly do dota players keep playing after going 0-25 in their first game?

The Commander - New System

This is very much like the fame system from Maplestory, and the commend system in Dota 2. Both systems allowed other players to “rate” a person based on how well he does in the game and fame/commend them for being so. It eventually turned into mass circle-commending for no other reason as to trade fame/commends. What will you do to prevent this?

You seem to have the same idea as this guy. I remembered when he posted this, much of the thread were criticisms that it would not work in sPvP or that he was beating up on glass cannons only.

Something that I noticed that differed between your play and his is your more effective grenade use. It’s a nice substitute to hoping that static discharges come off and kill a single player while not being able to fend off the rest of the team.
