The Reason as to why I think we need this
In other mmos that allow addons we the community could code our own spam blockers that were based on keyword and character level methods. Now I understand why there is no need for an addon system in GW2.

The main reason is because Spam is totally out of control its in the mail system that can possibly for some of us fill our collectable mail amount up with spam messages and its in PvP and Pve Instanced worlds. The second reason as to why we need to use a new system is because reporting is simply not effective it is slow and only costs your company recurring money and time.

Examples of cases where I have seen the spam

  • In game mail – being filled with spam mail.
  • PvP Ranked Instances not just Myst but also inside the match I have seen afk spam.
  • Lions Arch flooded with spam on some servers.
  • PvE Dungeons.

The Concept for the Solution
We implement an instant chat block when the chat is detected to have multiple lines and contain the main keywords, gold, sale, www., .com, cheap. The system would be pretty easy to implement and is very cost and time effective for the company to do implement.

Each key word would be checked to see if it match’s other key words in the filter such as Gold and the address that would contain a www. and a .com however it would also check for capital letter variants and other such symbols. This method would be applied to both the in-game chat and the mail system.

If a chat message was to contain the following keywords all detected in the single message or over the span of 3 messages multi-line included it would automatically flag the spam system currently set in place that blocks excessive use of the the same message in other words the very system that exists already that stops us from spamming repeated content recruit and trade messages too frequently could be used.

This system if to be put into action would stop the flow of gold spam by up to 90% now that is a based on current spam wording.

The keyword system is both low resource intensive and highly adaptable. If you wanted to take it a step further you could start analyzing the chat and mail for structure patterns and use those algorithms in your detection of spam content but the keyword system if used in its basic form which is to detect common spam keywords it would be very low resource cost quick to implement .

I call this a temporary solution because the sellers will adapt to this over time but for the initial period of use that it would receive it will certainly slow down and decrease the amount of spam that is currently plaguing the chat and mail system currently. It may also have a small con in which it could possibly false flag gold guide link text as spam but if the player chooses his wording carefully it should not be a impacting issue besides you could always turn off the filter for custom channels which would provide a means for players to avoid triggering the spam detection and still share those links. Also its is highly likely that spammers will use a lot of symbols and would further increase the accurate block rate.

You have something to gain from this too Arena Net!
Arena Net you could be saving your selves days worth of ticket report checking for banning seller accounts time which could be better spent doing something more constructive or could just give some of the staff their weekends back and save the company money in the long run.

This solution really cannot make the situation any worse it can only make it better for your customers and for your support staff to deal with.

Conclusion
I believe this system will work it is a proven effective method, It is cost/time effective, it is greatly needed. I hope you do read this thread and take it seriously. I give you all my best regards you have made a terrific game.

Costs of Travel

in Suggestions

LED Head.2439

Traveling in GW 2 is extremely pricey. It’s not just your own travels that can cost you and drain your funds. It’s also when guild members try to assist other guild members with their personal stories or other help, because we are often flying all over the maps at great cost sometimes. The worst part is help often comes from higher level members, therefore they pay the highest prices in assisting other members I believe the high costs of map travel discourages other members from helping one another. Period. That alone should make Anet take another look at the way they have set map travel up.

Not to mention the the death penalty for travel to nearest and most of the time very close way points is also costly I think it should be free to teleport to the closest way point if you die since your already going to be paying for damage to gear fees. More so if less than a certain number of people are around you to save you it should be free.

Could you go back to a "standard" MMO?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LED Head.2439

I would find it very hard to go back and actually enjoy a cookie cutter mmo ever again. That being said there are some things that these mmo’s do better purly because the system is so tried and true that they know what works well.

GW2 I play with the mindset that it was an invention and a big gamble they are still waiting to see if this gamble has paid of for them and we are most likely reading our valid criticisms and considering options for an expansion or content update, while I cannot speak for everyone I find the game enjoyable and not paying a sub kind of makes up for the fact that there appears to be an insane repeating trend zerg rush wins and dungeons being seriously lame in terms of strats required.

I understand the concept they are going with is fairly unique and for that I’m glad I hope the stuff I have been reading is worked on at a later date but all in all this game is worth the $ I paid and its living up to my main expectation which was to simply not be cookie cutter and try something innovative.

Can I get punished for reporting too much?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LED Head.2439

LED Head.2439

I would think not, unless the reports you have been submitting came up false, they would probably just ignore your future reports.

Actually I have read the Reporting rules posted by Anet and they have a clause in there that says if you report excessively false reports they can and most likely will ban you.

I assume if you are reporting accurately and the claims are true or as true as you believe them to be at the time of the report than I don’t see why they would ban you.

What to do with Karma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LED Head.2439

I have to agree so far I think karma is useless, Sure I have a use for it now but I could not really be bothered with it when I re roll I wont even care about karma if I want something I will just get it on the TP and use my main to get things faster for my lowebie.

karma to me seems like an alternative to paying for everyday items your character might want on his travels but apart from that no use for it all I certainly would not really be worried if my karma just went away all together, but this is just my experience so far up to level 40 I have not used it for anything yet except for some early gear that was until master gear started dropping from mobs.

My prediction is coming true (DEs and fewer people)

My alt is constantly in an overflow… on one of the lowest pop servers. I honestly don’t see what OP is talking about.

I think the player distribution is top heavy as well as bottom heavy. Maybe the mid level ranges are more scarce.

I vouch for this opinion whenever I leave any non instance zone I am put on overflow from 30 minutes to an hour. This happens every time I exit a solo instance or a grouped instance such as a dungeon even in the low level zones. However I can see what the OP is talking about I too have played mmo for over 14 years and tried multiple just like the OP has however I can only see the issue being minor and localized to the server they are on which happens with every mmo.

It cannot be as bad as the OP is trying to make this out to be if Anet only recently just re opened purchasing the game digitally from their online store, The digital purchase store was closed for a while due to servers being FULL constantly making it difficult for people who got the game a little after early launch to join the servers their friends were on.

In light of this issue they closed off the digital store which was the right move from the players point of view so that the current players could settle and migrate but it would have hurt Anet’s wallet a little as many of the people who wanted the game could not buy it online and they were on twitter and facebook feeds screaming about how they cannot even buy the game and being told to buy a boxed edition or wait for the re opening of the store.

My prediction is coming true (DEs and fewer people)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LED Head.2439

LED Head.2439

I’m seeing more and more DEs just be given up on because there aren’t enough people around to do them.

The only event I have seen any trouble with is bloodwitch and for one reason, its an underwater event that a lot of players seem to have difficulty finding. The second reason is I actually do think it needs a tweek. The vet mobs are respawning in under 30 seconds. I dont think that should be happening.

As for your prediction … well whatever helps you sleep at night. Your server may have an issue but mine is nicely populated across every area I have been in.

I play on Sea of Sorrows and it is about the same here but people do actively broadcast for help all the time for this one. I play in Australia as well I don’t seem to have any issues in the lower zones in fact this thinning out business is actually making people not zerg so much and follow each other around in a group they met and did an event well with which is what I believe the point of the dynamic system was for.

I can easily under stand low pop server players complaining about the lack of players maybe even medium server pop but high and full I don’t think would have any such issues getting players to come around in any zone at anytime of play.

Edit:
This thread is both deceivingly titled and between the occasional opinion vs validation post it appears to be mostly one person enforcing his or her belief of an issue over and over again with out actually discussing what he or she could do to resolve the issue for themselves then when someone else post something they can do or try to change their mind they go back to spewing denial of self action. I currently see the solution for this one person and that is to migrate servers to one with more players that are on during the timezone he or she is playing. Unofficial oceanic server or not this does not mean that most of the oceanic players are not on another unofficial oceanic server and the current one they are on could be populated more with US residents.

While this will not solve the underlying issue that this person believes to exist it is a solution for the person in question and that should be enough for the for mentioned person stop enforcing an invalid prediction before trying out other servers to see if its a trend or just their server that has an issue with population.

While I can understand the frustration that this person must be experiencing coming here and calling foul without actually trying to resolve the issue is pretty foolish.

I’m beginning to believe that these high costs we’re hit with everywhere are to try and force us towards the Gem store. Running out of money? No problem! Buy more at the Gem store!
This kind of behaviour is what will drive me away from the game if anything.

Also, as a Guild Wars 1 player where there were no armour repairs, and I could go anywhere in the world for free in a maximum of 4 clicks, I’m finding this decision even harder to come to terms with. I also believe that people suggesting these fares are only right and cheap at that, probably didn’t play the first game.

Gameplay wise, GW2 is revolutionary.
However, the level of monetisation is close to becoming sickening, and having ridden the wave of F2P that has been popular over the past 2-3 years, I can tell you I am fed up with being nickel-&-dimed, and I don’t appreciate it.

Good point of view, I too am starting to fell that this game might turn out that way as well. Its the same mentality going on here as over in DiabloIII when it comes to how to get more money or an item faster.

Request: Please remove Anti - farming system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LED Head.2439

LED Head.2439

I’m not really sure on this subject, in one hand we the crowd who things your fail if you don’t move around a lot to avoid it, in the other we have those with multiple views and ways to improve the system or remove the anti farming mechanic.

I am sort of stuck in the middle because I do move around a lot I just occasionally find a nice group of mobs along the way that are dropping what I want reasonably fast and they re spawn quite quickly I would like the option to stay there for 30 – 45mins and farm them while they are doping nicely with out completely destroying my drop chances in the overall zone.

Is that really that big of an issue? I see the system as it is as punishing players who are not bots and happen to want to farm for a little while before continuing on and doing random things.

I for one would be happy to compromise with Anet about this and keep the mechanic if it triggered for those who farm like this for more than an hour in the same spot but have a larger trigger time if you spread your farming out thought the zone with a time of 5 hours total.

Then another idea to compromise this is those who farm the same mob type for more than 45mins only that Mob Type would start to drop less items and not effect your adventures around the region your currently in.

I feel for Anet because anti botting measures like this puts them between a hard place and a rock and not everyone is going to agree with the systems they put in place though they must be open to suggestions from those players effected that could still keep the system effective against bots but not punish the players which is never an easy task.

As it stands now a lot of you are arguing to out right remove the system or are in favor of it while these are all well and good opinions if anything is to be done about it that would be a fair compromise for Anet.

I feel that is the direction the discussion here should start to take instead of endlessly repeating each others opinions.

People here don’t know much about botting it seems. Nowadays bots not only will change locations and mobs, they will also sell loot, ressurect at WP and run back. I’ve seen bots answer PMs. I’ve seen gathering bots running routes, changing maps. They even made a flying bot for aether gathering in Aion!

This anti-farm code won’t stop them. But it sure as hell is gonnakitten off legit players.

This is about the only real realistic point of view I have read in this entire thread. There is a botting discussion thread around as well which I posted additional botting information in that thread.

It is 100% true that right now that Anet don’t have any serious bot detection the fact is bots are so smart now that we do not need to focus on these sorts of measures anymore and instead Anet should be focusing on detection of the processors and algorithms the commonly used bot programs use and detect them at login to prevent non legit players even starting the game or playing while the bot program is running.

I agree with the OP, We are being punished for playing with friends, It is just like how we are punished for having too much time on our hands and decide to farm at because we have nothing else we rather do and just want to increase our wallets but no they hard carp the limit on items and money and karma earned so u cannot farm for hours which really sucks as I don’t want to be forced to buy the items I want when I can craft them if I can farm the mats enough.

I don’t really mind it the way it is, I see it as compensation for not being able to self protect as good as a warrior or Guardian and not being able to spam at ranged like a hunter and for not being able to be squishy as you but spam AOE’s and mess everyone’s day an AOE I might add that you sort of have to tank because your a melee user and this game already favors the ranged professions. So I say tough cookies if you don’t want to be hit with what I think it the best offensive ability that a thief has and about the only real burst skill it has going for it then stay away from the thief and play the game properly by out not letting your squishy profession come into contact with melee.

Your saying you want this ability nerfed in response to this I want mesmser condition removal nerfe, Elemental Aoe cool down increased, Slightly nerfed effective range on all ranged casts and bow users to compensate for the fact that I would rather chance all my initiative in one burst attack which I would have taken time to prep so that It was not all wasted leaving me open to any number of attacks I would need to dodge and evade until I got some of my initiative back to counter offensively with.

Considering the “I need to work on realism and Digital painting” part of the original post, I’d say it’s a fair guess it won’t be cartoon.

Maybe but he just says realism and “Digital painting” Digital painting could be any kind, Cartoon style Photoshop or the comic look commonly known and found in WoW fan art is considered digital work. So I think my question is still valid since I am not going for realism 100% I guess you could call the style a Concept Art style, actually I think that wording makes more sense in the style I have in my head right now.

Though your point is noted and valid I guess it just depends on how one interprets digital painting. Though I figured it was a safe guess but it never hurts to confirm. I edited my post anyway to clear up what sort of style I would prefer.

No complaints here, That is all fair, however I did mention I think that I was offering compensation in form of payment up to $15 AU. I’d be glad with whatever though as you said it is free. Sorry It came across rude.

However this system will be redundant at Christmas time since I’m rebuild the rig with an I7 3770k overclock that to 4ghz and 16gb of ddr3 and a 670GTX Factory Overclock of 1100mhz on core which I think would have some head room left in that as well since the voltages are unlocked on this board.

I created this thread because out of all the new topics they have been adding they seem to miss the most important section of all which is the suggestion section and so I give you a thread in which to discuss Guilds and Mail Features

DO NOT POST ISSUES HERE

The Mail system as it is seem pretty fine and dandy but one major feature which I would have liked to have thought would be on everybody’s check list for when designing an MMO would be COD or Cash on Delivery this feature seems to be a no brain er but some how it was either decided against by corporate types or they just ran out of time.

No doubt ArenaNet would have discussed this at some point. I am just a little stunned to find that this one lacks the feature and it deserves to be implemented at some point.

I run a guild myself as of a lot of you probably also do and I am willing to say that I probably am not the first or the last to note down a couple annoying things about it and some of the just out right WTF moments I have had with it.

Cannot Force Kick Members of Same Rank – Greatly needs the ability for the Guild Creator to demote anyone to fix any rank mistakes, currently this is major guild security issue.

Invite System – Would not hurt to add a method for players who have not been directly invited to apply for the guild and be put into an applicants section for a moderator or leader to accept the request.

Rank Permissions- Alright this one is rather important I feel. Invite Guild Member needs be split from Admin Lower Ranks and given its own permission. This is a must have if your not going to add a member application method for invites. While your at it split the Remove Upgrades from Que into its own permission as well.

The permission system seems alright apart from those two things that stood out the most to me.

Signed!
I can also add to this is as it makes it impossible to best use thief shadow step ability when downed since you cannot turn the camera around to face behind you or move camera at all as it becomes stuck when backed into a corner when downed in some PvP environments and events meaning that using the shadow-step ability to pick a location further away from the action to heal is impossible.

I cannot stress enough how many times the camera alone has killed me due to all the stuff above and inc the thing I mention right here which otherwise would have saved me if I could get away to get that last 3s of heal to stand up again.

it’s not really a workaround if we have to change to a UI size we don’t want, right?

Actually it is considered a workaround because you are working around an issue that seems to effect the software. If it was not a workaround it would be a fix.

It is like if you are told to set the shortcut to a program to windows xp compatibility this is a workaround to workaround the fact the software malfunctions on windows 7 and until a proper patch can deployed to the offending code in the software you will need to continue to workaround the issue.

Drivers they are BETA drivers. Games today are very sensitive to driver changes some might experience better with older drivers while a good driver and a newer one might be slower on some older cards drivers are just one of those things you need to fiddle with until you find one that works very well for you and occasionally try a new build to see if its better or on par.

I know that with my card the 200 series driver sets for that card generation are pure rubbish but the 300 beta sets seem to be working a lot better for me than the recommended drivers that are out. Keep in mind that all drivers for Geforce will work on mostly any card from the Nvidia Geforce range and any series no need to limit your self to an older set. I have been known to be picky with my driver sets and it would not be the first or the last to rollback to older drivers because the set they recommend runs like rubbish for me.

Try these http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-304.79-beta-driver.html these are one set down from the current beta drivers. If that fails to run well try the current WHQL certifed driver set here http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-301.42-whql-driver.html.

Remember when installing a new set uninstall the old set or at the very least tick the “Clean Install” check box when installing the new set to let it uninstall your old set for you and cleanly install the new set.

Abnormal overheating CPU

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: LED Head.2439

LED Head.2439

^- I think his problem lies with the high temps for CPU not GPU.

A CPU temp of 75 is absolutely nothing to worry about a CPU will really only start to display any signs of heat wear at about 90c even then the system should if factory set or professionally installed/ correctly configured bios will most certainly and forcefully power off the system at around 80c or 90c well before the danger zone of 100 + Cecilius.

It is perfectly acceptable for a CPU to run at a temperature between 50c – 75c. I have ran systems with 80c – 85c for entire months – a year without fail when extreme overclocking.

But if he has not overclocked his system it would be a safe guess to say that the CPU heat-sink might be clogged with dust resulting in the 10c heat rise.

With that said I am pretty confident in my conclusion that it is the GPU not his CPU.

Like others have stated this is a memory or lack there of issue with your Memory not you video card.

“Snippet”

Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3328MB RAM

That is your system your running windows 32bit edition this will not use 4gb of ram or more it will always be stuck at just over 3gig the only solution is to upgrade to 64bit edition.

Also 4gb of ram is a bit low for modern games while you should not be seeing memory issues like this in future and if you do I suggest you run memtest over night to check for bad sticks of ram damaged by shock or power failure/surge. However to be safe 8gig of ram is recommended even for your generation of hardware.

If you decide to keep 4gb installed don’t be surprised if you get the same issue when trying to run extreme high resolution texture packs in any game. In fact right now I would disable HD character textures in the game as you most certainly do not have enough memory to cover those and the game assets.

Abnormal overheating CPU

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: LED Head.2439

LED Head.2439

I believe this would be a case of the drivers not properly auto adjusting the fan speed of the video card. Not the first time I hear stuff like this. Safer to use an overclock utility to manually set up the fan speed kick in stages.

Also a GTX 570 30fps ? I don’t think that is very accurate 570 you should be getting at least 50 – 60 constant, but this can be for now be blamed on the overheating issue which in fact would be your GPU not your CPU. CPU will overheat doing anything intensive if this was the case.

GPU on other hand overheating will severely kill your FPS rates and cause stutters while playing. At this time I would like to mention that 75c is pretty average running temp for that card when under load. I would only be concerned if it starts creeping above 83c.

EDIT:
I am more worried about the fact the card is playing at 30 fps most of the time than I am about that heat, for instance my current system still uses a 285GTX and I get 30-60 fps on mostly low gfx settings.

That is not going be the case with my new system with is has a 670GTX 2gb factory overclocked at 1085mhz on the core its almost as fast as a 680 but $100 something cheaper and I could probably overclock that further to be at around 1120mhz.

LED Head.2439

I haven’t noticed this but good to know, imo I think stealth is just too short since the only real way I could find to make it worth my while to even pick it up was if It was a dedicated build to chain stealth moves. That being said a couple things about the mechanics of thief sort of annoy me a little just like with the necromancer there is no solid at a glance method that screams your out of range of target which becomes a real concern when you start messing around with shadow step because its very very easy be in range then suddenly not and by when you do click shadow-step it is wasted. that annoyed me greatly I would much rather the ability do nothing if your out of range.

Ideally I would like to have out of range attacks greyed out on the hotbar while this will not break the challenge of the game as clicking them anyway will still waste the move but at least the at a glance visual is easier to see as to avoid the mistake of a miss calculation of the range.

I had my interface set to small on 1600×1080 the lions trading post and store was fuzzy, set your interface size to “Normal” and that will fix the issue for all of you, until they rectify this with a HotFix for the font which seems to be that the font does not scale correctly.
