Bhawb,
I am new at this. All I know is my health dropped like a stone, and his did not. It was all really fast. I had only seconds to figure out what to do.
His pet and himself was clearing my conditions.
I know I did not time my consume conditions to best effect.
I have a 30-20-0-10 terror build I am learning to use.
I was attacked in the open by a Spirit Ranger with a Black Widow pet and forced into a 1v1.
I felt completely defenseless. It seemed I had to stand there and just die.
Are they our perfect counter, or did I have something that would have let me win that I just don’t know how to use yet?
His warrior name is Genmu Dun. I had it wrong. But yes, a great player to have on your team.
Fade,
He led with like 350 points most matches when I was there. He was always with a group, but was pretty much the spearhead, as I saw it.
I would enjoy hearing about the build. It seemed quite effective.
Saw a PvP Level 69 warrior in hotjoin last night just owning everyone. Name was Gemma Dun.
Are you here Gemma? Anyone know this warrior and the build they are using?
I spectated a bit but didn’t have time to see much more that it was a rabid amulet and dual sword/longbow.
I am new to warrior. What’s the strat with that sort of condition build on a warrior?
It’s called hotjoin. Have fun deathmatching.
Sounds like a great move by ArenaNet to encourage some more build diversity in the ranks.
Love the responses so far. Thank you. Keep them coming if you have something to add that you have discovered.
And what would the exact traits be?
What specific traits. And the bread and butter combo?
I am forced to to hot join and soloQ. This means it’s basically a deathmatch.
I have surrendered to the idea I didn’t want to face: The meta is glass cannon and burst.
Can some thieves experienced in this give me the basic build and the bread and butter combo?
I figure 30/30/ and a ? somewhere. Berzerkers and Ogre runes. Dagger/Pistol? Or two daggers?
Short bow or not?
Thank you!

It’s unfortunate that with so many classes and variety of builds, there are only a handful that are good enough for tPvP.
Is this a consequence of conquest mode? Would other builds be viable if there were different kinds of play?
Maybe they wasted their time coming up with too much variety, 90% of it being useless for PvP.

Sikari,
Which build of the 3 currently-effective MM builds would you say is the strongest for PvP?
Pandabro,
No need to make it harder than it naturally is. A complex build makes it harder than it needs to be. That’s my point in this thread.
I really appreciate the suggestions and comments.
As I try things, I really like the automatic life-siphoning minion master. With the build I am using from minion-build expert Sikari, I have an effective health in the mid 30,000 range and good toughness. This buys me TIME to grasp the situation strategically, “read” what’s going on in the fight, and apply the right CC and debuffs and keep my minions going, while positioning myself effectively.
The minions hit hard and I just replace them as necessary. I can support my team pretty well, and can 1v1 take/hold a point pretty well.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Thanks for taking the time to do that Badjas. I will try it out.
I am also trying a Vampiric MM build from Sikari that uses Dwayna runes and life siphoning to make me really hard to kill while my minions attack.
Badjas,
Your question made me think, “What is it that I find non-fun”?
I guess it is being overwhelmed by having to both: 1) discern what my opponents are probably going to do next, given their class, apparent build (buffs and animation clues)…but then 2) have to set up a complex set of actions to counter them as well that requires timing on my buttons and swapping weapons and utility cooldown management. I just get burnt out from that.
So I am hoping to have something a bit more straightforward on my character so I can mainly play the strategic game of counter the class opposing me, reading animations, and knowing their likely meta and plan for me.
(I do have custom bindings and have never been a keyboard turner)

Mighty,
So basically, to be really powerful as a necro, it’s a fairly complex dance?
I need a relatively boring-to-play build for sPvP necro.
To be honest…I am too old and slow to juggle 15 things to have a “challenging build to play”! Seriously.
I just want to have a relatively straight-forward mechanic that is solid and powerful for the necro….using the new abilities that makes it viable now.
I will then use my brain to focus on positioning and other strategic things.
I’d love to hear suggestions from people who have experience with the necro and know what I am asking for here.
Thank you!

TheMightyAltRoll,
What is your in game name to contact you? (“TheMightyAltRoll” not found in game)
Thanks
MightyA…
Can you discuss the proper use of the Tormentor in sPvP? What’s the general mechanic? Sequence?
I am new to this kind of Necro and need some guiding to use it effectively.
Thanks for the builds!
Like all of you, I am getting older.
But I have been getting older a lot longer than you probably have, since I started playing PvP MMOs with Ultima Online in 1997, 16 years ago. And I was an older gamer even back then!
So I just don’t have the twitch/reaction I once had.
What GW2 class seems to be more about experience and knowledge and less about twitch reaction?
YES, they ALL require some fast reaction. But there must be some that require more think and less lightning response.
All friendly, helpful replies from experienced players who know the classes will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Really good. Thanks for doing this video!
Ryan,
Actually, the hard part is not “remembering a few traits and gear choices”.
The really skilled players have developed a fast twitch muscle memory of WHAT skill to apply, and in what situation. You also need to know HOW your skills counter all the other classes.
If you only use “a few skills”, then you are not playing at anywhere near the top level.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
I don’t know, but remember, they are just attacking a pixel image on their computer screen, not you yourself. They don’t know a thing about you.
That’s what I remind myself from time to time. Their actions are all about them, in their life.
Some of those “Level 1”s could easily be rerolls on a second account. And the actual player would be much higher.
Nothing is getting nerfed with mesmers. Moa is getting an improvement…cast on the run, and the Moa’d player will not be able to run as far as they can now.
… honestly I’d give the advice of switching to a roamer when you fall down the ladder as a bunker can only affect so much. I dusted off the old warrior for this map and I keep their treb down, cap the points they leave undefined and kill lone players trying to take our points.
When I start getting decent teams and opponents again I’ll probably go back to my trap ranger or guard and bunker. Also note the difference in win/loss and 80%/25% is small as 40-50% is where most solo queuers sit I think.
Jonwar,
I think this make a lot of sense.
Your “job” is not just to stand and guard a point. Your job is to win the game. To achieve that you have to think outside of the box and try different tactics instead of /afk on the shrine. Your team is most likely losing because of you. No offense meant.
Give me a couple of examples. And explain /afk on the shrine. Is everyone guarding a point “afk” until the other team shows up?
An opposing team member could come over the hjill at ANY moment. When do you decide to abandon your point and join the zergfest?
Go hide around that point and lure people.
And I never said you could last 1v4 for long time, if you got 4 people on u and your the one guy, that’s good, unless they have the other two caps.
And like people said before it aint hard to have a decent % in solo q, being at 0 and 5% means you lose pretty much every game and win one then lose them. Means you cant hold your weight.
Because like in your previous post, your whining about 1v2 and 1v3 as a bunker. Go play another class if you don’t like 1v2 and 1v3s, just quit bunkering, maybe you’ll get into the 10% tile.
Oh please, stop with the forum PvP. Your arguments are a real “reach” trying to make me the problem. Everyone else reading this thread knows what my point was.
Of course I can take on 3 people, but not forever.
Try playing pure soloQ for several weeks and see where you end up.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Picture a “pool” of mostly teams that are successful and play together, and a relatively few PuG soloer’s. How are the PuG soloers ever going to increase their rating if there is not an entire “ladder” of soloQ teams to play… right up the rating bracket ?
Luthan said: “If the team is just not working 1 person can’t make it win.”
Exactly.
Also, one person can’t make it lose if the team is working well.
TakaEagle,
If you want to bring up low percentages, all the players in the low percentages are no doubt mostly random PuG team players. Their rating is their TEAM rating: which is the RNG PuG teams they are always assigned to.
The leaderboards are team ratings, not individual ratings.

Any recommendations on who to rent a TS3 server from?
Best price and good connections.
Who do you use?
wow. just wow.
there is some seriously astounding bullkitten coming out of this thread
I agree!
This sounds like the stuff you’d hear about healers in other games, when the DPS heros demand complete healing, and right now!
:)

Glad to see people with a deeper view of the situation adding their comments. Seriously. Thanks.
uberkingkong said: " if your a bunker crying about 1v2, 1v3, 1vx your just plain sad."
Really?
Do you play a bunker, uberkingkong?
Do you hold off four people… forever? Of any class? Say, a ranger and a necro and another?
Maybe the real King Kong could do that. Bunkers cannot.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Been playing beast master bunker.
I actualy call 4 help on team chat, it helps alot.
That’s pretty rude.
Of course I am smart enough to call for help!
You guys are kind of missing the fact that the only constant in all your games is you…So if you are losing tons of rating it’s probably because you aren’t at your skill bracket.
You are basically saying: “No, you are just a level 0 player. The system works fine”.
Well, in my case, explain to me how a Guardian who holds his point, always, until he is overwhelmed and without team support…is not playing up to his skill level?
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
That seems to be the trend for my guardian. The random teams I am assigned to lose much more than they win. I do my job and hold points. But the opposing teams just take more points (other than mine, until several finally come together and take me).
Since the leaderboards list your team rating, not your personal rating, and your “team” is always a different, randomly assigned set of players who cannot coordinate with real-time voice communications, often with a couple of players who do nothing to help effectively…
…eventually your rating will be the average rating of a random team against the average premade team. And I would guess that is a 0 to 5% percentile.
I would hope when they create a solo queue they let us random folks “start over”.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Role – Best class for the role
mid point bunker – Guardian
Close point deffender – Mesmer
Far point assaulter – Ele (and maybe ranger after cantrip nerf)
Roamer. Helps close. Helps mid – Glass thief
Teamfight dps – Most classes work for this. Both aoe and condi builds work fine.
After the ranger takes the far point, who bunkers /holds it?
In forming a team it seems best to choose roles rather than classes.
What are the roles?
Is it like this:
2 bunkers (for holding two points)
2 DPS
1 CC/support
Are you on en experienced team?
What are the roles you choose?
If I am repeatedly assigned to a team of people whose average rating is lower than mine, and we predictably lose. does MY rating drop as more than the lower-rated people I was assigned to help?
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
So, the top 50 QP players get an arena…
I suppose it is up to them whether to open them to all players.
Maybe they will just invite their friends to play in each other’s arenas.
I hope some share them with the “public”.

Trying to get to 0% now by being afk to make the team lose. I want to see if it is possible to get up to around 30-50 percent since I have been there for a long time before the Foefire map started(always 50 percent won 50 percent loss). Since Foefire mostly losses so I’ll just try to lose even more on purpose and try to play for real once the maps I like are back in rotation.
And screw your team. How good of you.
I am trying to decide which class, played well, helps a PuG Tourny team most to win:
1) A fast roamer that can recap points as soon as the other team leaves, or, take a point if a non-bunker is standing there.
or:
A heavy bunker guardian to stand on the key point.
You do realize that the way it works is that the lower and mid-range employees don’t get to decide whether to spend money hiring developers and testers.
Write a letter to the president making your case. I doubt if you will get anything back but a form letter thanking you for your concern and support, and promising great things ahead.
