I double-tap dodge and don’t have a problem. Everything is keybound. No clicking.

I do use the decoy and blink, but I was just wondering if there were some more esoteric tricks that I don’t know about yet.

When I am defending a point and a melee comes running up to me I typically target him and as soon as he is in phantasm range I instantly decoy for the invisibility and run forward through him as I cast the pistol and iBerzerker Phants. and get some range. I always have extra health on the phantasms so he cannot burst them down instantly.

I am an older player and I don’t have super fast response any more. So I play a phantasm mesmer in sPvP and let the fire-and forget phantasms do their work without me having to actively manage them.

That way I can focus all of my attention on staying alive and recasting the phantasms as needed.

What tips do you have for me about how to best avoid getting hit when they rush me to melee? They seem to be able to tell a clone from me quite easily and ignore the clones.

I use decoy. Are there some other tricks I can learn, other than dodging like a madman?

At any rate, if they get the matchmaking right so that you are only matched against a team that you have a reasonable chance of winning, everything will settle out quite differently.

If you are well-matched to people of your skill level, you should lose and much as you win…particularly the top 50 players, when they now have to battle each other to raise their MMR higher.

I hope they will reset the MMRs and start again with a big population trying once more.

I would expect to see most win/loss rations in the 45 to 65% range. Because even the top people will have tough competition.

Stealth, it depends on what the MMR was of the players on the other team. If they were weaker than you and you lose, you will drop more. If they were stronger and you lose, you do not lose much, since your team was not expected to win.

Laserbolt.6731

Lopez,

Absolutely correct in theory.

But in this case ArenaNet has admitted the matchmaking was not working correctly, and high MMR players did not compete against each other, but rather against teams of much lower players.

So they are fixing it.

Also, while a person of top skill can carry a bad team (someone who can also play many classes well and switch to the optimal class in a given matchup) , a person of just very good skill cannot be everywhere at once and win…especially when their teammates are dancing, joking, running against a wall in base, etc.

If they DO get the matchmaking working correctly, the average win/loss rate should be much closer to 50% for most people.

I only bothered to follow you after you made that thread about how bad players who think they’re good would realize in solo q that they’re bad. I thought it was hilarious coming from someone who was never top 1k in team q where basically everyone who was good and active made top 1k at some point or another.

You lost me. You want to explain the logic of this?

Does not getting into the TeamQ top 1000 somehow reveal a lack of intelligence? A lack of the ability to see how a series of truly equal matchmaking would reveal to some players that they are not as good as they thought they were?

Is your attack here an example of “Forum PvP”? What is your goal here?

And I just checked, Laserbolt is now down to 27%.

Auto-balance exploitation in sPvP

in PvP

Posted by: Laserbolt.6731

Laserbolt.6731

This only forces an auto balance if the other team already has an unfair advantage with more players than the team the player left from, to spectate.

I believe autobalance kicks in when one team has at least two players more than the other. So if one person leaves a side that is already one player down and is losing, autobalance then kicks in.

No it varies.

If you reverse the rating it starts at 0% and there are 40 pages of people (1000 more) to go to 38% or so.

My spot was at 964 yesterday, falling about 20 a day while not playing, and this morning it was at 68%, which I am guessing is about 1050 because I lost a game.

What are you talking about? You’ve never been top 1,000 or even close. Ever since LB came out you have been 38% or lower. I’ve had you on my friends lust to see. Even if somehow you claim to have climbed out from that hole you have not. Gwshack.info shows everyone who has EVER been top 1,000 if you type their account name in.

The odd thing is why would you even care to lie to prove something like this? That’s ridiculous.

Sorry, you are absolutely correct. Laserbolt as never been in the top 1000.

Kyotee,

For most people used to fighting mobs, being focused by two fast-moving players at once is too much to dodge. You have conditions ticking and needing to be cleansed. You have DPS coming in fast, you are being stunned and cannot move…and still you are required to outplay both of them. Perhaps one of them is ranged.

It does take skill to handle all that and manage your cooldowns and prioritize your heals vs DPSing back, as far as I can see.

Regardless of what some people boast, I see very few people able to win a 1v2. You cannot stomp the second player, he revives while you keep fighting the first, and kills you.

I suspect that the gameplay is so different and fast from the typical PVE MMORG that it is very difficult for people from the playerbase to achieve the level of skill needed to compete.

And therefore the relatively few players that get really good just dominate anyone else in the SoloQ or Tourneys…and the other people just give up and go back to doing something else.

This severely limits the popularity of PvP.

Also, it’s so fast that it is not really fun to watch the matches. Everything happens much too fast to know what is going on, other than this guy dies or that guy dies…which is pretty much the only thing I hear the game announcers say. They can’t talk about the successful rotations or how one guy just beat another…it is over in 2 seconds in a blur.

Laserbolt.6731

If you climb up to the top 100 now with a new account (without synching or other tricks), then I gotta admit you are pretty good. Currently the ladder however, seems somehow biased: in that image you have someone with rank 3 (some very new pvp player) against rank 60 (some basement dweller who lives in this game).

I’m guessing Syrkle is Cyrkles alt and one of the better players on blue. Could be someone else though.

Perhaps, but he might as well be someone who got the game today, as can that ranger. My point is: the match making is biased. If BOTH of the teams had about as many high ranked players, it wouldn’t matter that low ranked players would play along them. In fact, that would nicely test the leadership skills of these high-end players. However, when they are all cascaded to the other team against a bunch of rookies, something is wrong. It’s almost pathetic.

Almost?

How complicated and useless feature that would be..You basically ask for the game to tell you that you suck and that you should give up the match already!Just wow

Laserbolt.6731

As the OP said, I believe ELO uses the odds to calculate the MMR adjustments. So it does know the odds in advance. It tries to have even matches if possible ; but it will adjust MMRs based on lopsided matches, as I envisioned above.

Right now there are a lot of lopsided matches.

I think it would help player’s to know in advance that they are not favored to win this match, so they won’t think they just suck if they lose. And that if they can pull it off, there will be a big reward.

Yes, it would be interesting to see when you jump into the base before the match:

If you lose, your MMRs will be lowered by 1.5%

I notice that low MMR-fights have a lot of hotjoin-type playing. Lower level players may tend to zerg and swarm. They tend to go for farpoint and get killed by the respawning enemies. They don’t tend to defend points . They may play the glass cannons they had success with in hotjoin.

Laserbolt.6731

That’s correct. The simplest, best thing you can do at low rank is carry with strong aoe dps.

I think spirit ranger is an exception because it’s strong all around. Good 1v1, decent dps, good teamfight utility, doesn’t rely on other players.

In a sense, when a Spirit Ranger is buffing the team in a teamfight from the spirits, all team members attacks can apply conditions, so in a way, the teammates are your “AOE DPS”.

Laserbolt.6731

You are going to lose as much as you win in SoloQ…that’s pretty much by design.

And until most people play and get a SoloQ rating, it’s going to swing wildly.

Plus, it will take a few days for all the hotjoiners to try it, and for all the people who think they can win a match by zerging in a clump to find out they cannot, and drop out back to hotjoin.

Don’t worry yet about the leaderboards. They won’t really mean anything for a few weeks. It will take time to show your ability to help a random team.

Let’s help new players by laying out the basic idea for the different maps.

The OVERALL plan for a map. Of course you will get diversions, but people need to know the general plan so they can know what to do when returning from base, or after winning a fight.

General idea:

1) This is not hotjoin. Your point totals mean NOTHING. Only the win counts!
—so only one person needs to stand on a point to cap it. ONE person. forget gathering pts.

2) Don’t try to go for three control points. Home point and mid are enough and will assure the win. Leaving mid to try for far point will lose you the mid most of the time.

3) Kill the treb in Kylo. It’s very powerful. Kill it quick.

I do agree with the original poster. I, too, have felt the same way. There’s no “feedback information loop” to let you know when you are “off course” with a build or a strategy you always use. As a new PvP player you never know exactly what is was that you did not do that really caused your team to lose the match.

Or what you did that really helped win the match.

You might think your big 1v1 fight that you won out in the road was helping, when you actually should never have been there, but should have been at mid supporting the cap.

UberKK,

My reasoning is that a lot of people will try out the new SoloQ. And matchmaking will initially be pretty good because the matcher programming will have a lot of people in the pool to draw from. As to team composition, there will be a random mix of mostly overpowered 1v1 classes on each team, and always bunkers, but fewer of them.

This will tend to 50% losses, 50% wins. It’s going to be really hard to sustain a high win ration when you are assigned to a team randomly.

And the really clueless players will be assigned to both teams. They will always be there in the match, holding both sides down, balancing the talented players on the same team.

I am going to guess that for each talented player there will be a weak player or two to “carry”.
