as someone that has played many mmos, DpS and DpH mean two completely different things. example:(omg another complaint about thief) the faster you hit, the less damage you do. hypothetically warrior hits slower than rogue, therefore warrior should have stronger HITS. not damage per second, damage per hit
yes, warriors can take down an enemy with a single skill(100b) but it’s 8 hits. a thief can take down a single enemy in 4 hits(cloak and dagger, backstab, cloak and dagger, backstab, each of these doing over ~1.8k a piece) using only raw numbers, and judging from the damage i’ve taken, backstab hits harder per hit than warrior’s 100b. (backstab normally is 6k on me, 100b is usually ~21-22k if all hits land) i am not using axe main hand for warrior because the highest i’ve taken with it is a 10k.
another fact i’ve discovered, mmo development companies and publishers always favor the holy trinity classes even if they say they don’t.
warrior is one of the strongest, thief is one of the strongest, guardian is…????, and elementalist is the most versatile.
point of the post: thief does more damage per hit than warrior, a lot more consistently.

just one more way to balance this class. in place of a single 1200 range damage skill, thief class got something it didn’t deserve or need: torment, you now get to punish people for running away from AND chasing you. despite how you feel, no one really cares unfortunately. everyone has taken 6k backstabs, and now you get the new condition. don’t expect a public outcry outside of the thief community.

I don’t know if you’ve actually seen Torment in game but it’s not quite what you think it is.

i don’t think it’s anything at all, it’s worthless without significant condition damage. my necro has it. the fact remains that thief didn’t need it.

In a thread titled “rifled barrels bugs” you dare to claim it is a close range weapon? Shut up, you’re making yourself look foolish.

Also, the extra 200 range is helpful in more ways than one. Defending keeps, kiting attackers, chasing down eles/thieves, landing more jumpshots (ironic I know), etc.

You are aware there are traits that cripple targets upon immob, and upon hp threshold? Surely that 200 range would help land those. (Don’t call me Shirley)

Just a warning.

When traiting rifled barrels, your jumpshot becomes usless again. At the end of the jump shot you will land, go back into the air unable to move. Rendering the movement difference between traited and untraited range useless.

Please please please anet. Fix this asap. I really want to use rifles and gadgets, don’t let jump shop be bugged for another 4 months.

I can confirm that. The engineer jump animation happens twice with that very well rifled barrels trait. You jump and then you jump again like some yo-yo. Pity rifle is 900 range without that trait and 1200 range would make it much more useful.

No you misunderstand, we were in a group and he stopped dueling and said he didn’t want to duel anymore if I was going keep playing the way I was. He left group before I could get a word. I just wanted him to understand im not going toe to toe with a heavy when i’m a light armor class.

hey readers, i may be taking time off from this as i do want this to be both factually based on settler encounters of both universes from a native perspective. i have some light research ahead, at least on the Wampanoag side. there is currently no backstory to the Centaur and Ventari’s creation of the sylvari at all, as far as the wiki says.

Please elaborate. We have a rifle leap and swiftness; no teleports, no gap closing attacks (with the exception of rocket kick which is buggy and painful to use), and painfully low access to skills that assist in escape, like stability and stealth.

So please explain the spec where we have the mobility/escape potential of a thief or a mesmer…

Sure, we got it all over a Necro, but they have a monster health pool (several, in fact) and have access to the new condition.

mobility: speedy kits.
escapes: elixir s.

Necro is a class that can’t be left alone in a zerg fight, you need to kill it or it’ll melt squads. engineer however, is almost better on its own. you want to chase me from tower to tower? okay, the engineer can punish for that, but necro can’t. all classes excel in situation based scenarios. three thieves on me and i’m done, three guardians…not so much.

LOL after all the months of patches, were you really expecting anything to be different? Even if we did get something worthwhile itd be nerf virtually the next day. I don’t know about you but I choose to switch to Engi to have a natural handicap. not saying im a good player, im more like a regualr below average player :P. BUTTON SMASSSSSSHHHH!!!!!!!

Anet can nerf us to the point where not using any weapon would be the more effective, well then id be out on the battlefield mooning the enemy to death. Anet cant nerf pants onto this body!!!!

Natural Handicap? Engis have one of the most broken builds in the game that allow them to be have some CC, apply tons of conditions, and have the ability to fight 2 foes at once and WIN, they can have both DPS and toughness. I used to consider Mesmer the most Overpowered class but in this build it’s a toss up between Engi and ranger and I’d lean Engi because Ranger isn’t as good in team fights.

not sure if thief player troll or just stupid. do you know how much toughness i have to stack just to slightly mitigate a thief’s backstab? i have 1800 toughness on my engineer pal. only reason i’m able to fight them is because i’m not a 2 spammer.
you must only play with shortbow tryhard 1 spammer rangers if you can come to this kind of uneducated conclusion.

Necros have to invest 30 points into power to get it. No condition build necro’s going to have burning.

hybrid build* yes those exist. new flash right? about 400 condition damage makes that trait worth getting. meanwhile maintaining a mostly power build.

I never go with Greater Marks for pve. But for sPvP and WvW, Greater Marks is a must. Plus, having the toughness from Death Magic is always nice. The unblockable never really helps for pve, but has greater importance in pvp

at last, some optimism about this weapon! if the notes are correct, axe training will be going to master level this means, if you are a power necro using an axe, you can finally get both axe training and close to death.

so while farming today i found out just how annoying the bounces can be with minions up. i’m a hybrid necro and minions really serve no purpose for me, well except to get in the way of 4 more seconds of vuln or more.
why does focus 4 give regen anyway?

New DS#5 - Tainted Shackles - Torment

I would just like to hop in here and maybe quell the amount of paranoid necros out there. As it is right now, the only skill known to cause Torment is DS #5… we don’t know what other skills have access to this condition in any of the classes (necro, Mesmer, or thief).

Also, we don’t know how this condition works. Do teleports cause instant increased damage of Torment based on how far the character travels? Is it only movement skills like RTL and Rush that will cause more damage of Torment than just running? Is Torment capped to do increased damage based on max run speed? Does it hurt people with swiftness more? Does it hurt crippled people less?

My point is, we have no idea how Torment will cause increased damage beyond it will hurt more while moving. While mesmers and thieves will have Torment, the condition could effect them much more than other classes if it is applied to them as well. Maybe wait until the 25th to see the effects of Torment rather than making paranoid speculations.
I think necros are getting a well deserved buff in this upcoming patch, with Torment and access to burning now too. Pretty powerful imo.

One more thing: How many condi Mesmer and thieves do you see now-a-days? Food for thought.

none, because thief builds in wvw flip at the turn of the meta. the second conditions for thieves become cool again, 90% of thieves in world vs world will run this build. i’m not exaggerating. i actually tested this theory: when one of my thief player guildies started using dagger pistol i asked him why, he explained it, i popped into EB and every thief i came across was running it.
i’m convinced the majority of thief players are skritt behind their keyboards.

part 4, Encounter.

Ventari and I went back to our longhouse, and laid in bed. I fell asleep first, I knew this because I began to dream. I saw a beautiful forest, a forest so serene that I thought that even in my dream-like state I was hallucinating. The trees seemed to be moving, yet not sentient, and the fauna were in perfect harmony with their surroundings. Even the predatory animals took no more than what they needed. Then my dream jumped from this beautiful forest, to the battlefields of Kryta. I was in battle, swinging my greatsword wildly, killing any humans who were in my path. I cut down great numbers of them, until I came to a new foe; a gigantic Oakheart. I knew immediately that this was no ordinary Oakheart, as it began to speak. I looked around, calling out to my brothers and sisters if they too saw the Oakheart, but none could hear nor see me.
“They know not that you are there, Crowsbane. Only I can see you now.” The Oakheart said, with a thundering voice.
I thrust my sword into the ground and bowed to the Great Tree.
“Who…are you, Great Tree?” I asked, terrified.
“I am the mother of your people, the sower of seeds.”
“Meland-”
“Silence! I came to you in this dream for a reason. Look around you, Crowsbane. One by one, your brothers and sisters are falling. Your tribe cannot hold back the storm that is Humanity.” The Great Tree’s voice grew more thunderous.
I looked up at the Oakheart, scared and confused.
“My lady, what are we to do? If we don’t fight them, we risk losing everything! Our lands, our great city, our sacred pl-”
“I will not lose my most precious creation to war!” The Great Tree yelled, with that I awoke.

I looked around for my sword and leather jerkin, and dressed myself. I stepped outside my longhouse to see my father meeting with what looked like Humans. There was but a small number of them, but I was immediately cautious. I ran full gallop to my father’s side.
“What are they doing here father?” I demanded.
He looked at me, and saw the fear in my eyes.
“Calm, son, calm. They are but homesteaders trading with us for supplies.” My father said, with a smile to reassure the humans I meant no harm.
I stayed by my father’s side to make sure that they were indeed only trading, and one of the homesteader’s small children walked over towards me.
She was speaking a language I had never heard, I could not understand at all what she was saying. I told her to back away, and she did not, as she too didn’t understand what I was saying. Then her parents called her back and she left my side. I later found out that the little girl’s name was Salma.
I could tell this was the start of something, I wasn’t sure what it meant but I knew something more would come of this.

I have played my Mesmer for about 300 hours and i feel i have acquired a decent level of skill. Recently i have been jumping into dueling servers and testing my skills. Most people who lose to me automatically say that Mesmer is OP and that it needs to be nerfed. I agree with them somewhat because I do feel like i have too many tools at my disposal in a fight, but at the same time it takes good timing to pull combos off. I just want to know what the Mesmer community thinks about the Mesmer being OP. Haha i just beat like 5 people in a row without dying. They all said that clones are too confusing and that i was cheap for using Mesmer, but whatever i will just keep winning.

There is definitely an imbalance with numbers, and without numbers you are just going to get steamrolled no matter how skilled your player base is. You might have some good battles but ultimately you won’t win the war because you just can’t field enough people to keep control of points you have taken. Or, hell, even break out of your spawn point for that matter.

With the lower tier servers it’s now painfully evident how imbalanced the system is.

Just gaining rating even tho you’re not accomplishing anything on the map is not fun. If I wanted to just play a numbers game I’d break out the board games and turn off the computer. I want to win a battle, kill things, and gain territory to go up in rank. Gain something tangible. Sitting at your spawn point being murdered because you’re outmanned 100v1 is not fun…even if you are gaining rank while you do it. That’s not a real testament to skill.

If there was some sort of population control so it evens out the playing field when you try to enter a BL or EB.

The cap could be based on the lowest population server on that particular map set up in mb 20 player increments or percentage based. So if the lowest # a server can field in Eb is say 70, the other 2 servers can’t field more than a low% more than that each. For the BL’s it would be based on the home servers population. So if you can only get in 30 people in your own bl then the enemy can’t have more than that, but if you go into enemy territory you’re at the mercy of their #’s. Home court advantage.

I think you would really start seeing skilled fights and not just a mindless hack and slash because the server you’re up against can field 30x your #‘s. I really don’t mind losing a fair fight, but c’mon anet, even the 300 died in the end to greater numbers.

i think your issue is you’re fighting BP.

I didn’t think Cavalier Armor existed, but it must come out of fractal chests.

it’s transmuted. you can’t buy the exotic stats of it on the TP, so the exotic variant doesn’t exist.

Never seen the night crew of GoM so demoralized after [WvW] guild gave all their hard work away for free earlier today. No commanders anymore, no upgrades or siege being bought and no response teams for defense either.

Hard work? Its a faceroll match up.

So you “lost” a couple gold you’d have lost at the end of the week anyways?

Its a kittening game, why take it so serious?

sorry to report but, most of us on GoM disagreed with giving up points to the ET/FC that needed map completion. it’s caused a lot of infighting that will most likely continue.

I doubt that.

I do have one question…

WHY? We have a 50K+ lead and we have almost everything in EB. Whats the point of taking it so serious?

While not let some ET get some map points they might not ever had the chance to get without transferring?

considering the massive amount of quotes and replies, i wouldn’t say it’s me taking it seriously.

EDIT: the act itself doesn’t bother me at all, the fact that one guild held its opinions higher than everyone else’s does. GoM’s alliance isn’t a few guilds, it’s many. it would do well to remember that fact.

It wasn’t just one guild it was an alliance.
And GoM gained much more than we lost… Really we outman them so much we don’t need sieges.

Everyone was raging about them taking over… but once it was time to take stuff back, you guys sounded like you loved it. There’s nothing to do in WvW if we own everything.

Not trying to start a fight or anything, but it wasn’t that huge of a deal.
And to any GoM player that whined about loosing IRL money because of siege… Don’t waste it on WvW, it’d be gone in a week anyway.

okay bro, so lets ask fc/et if we can farm the guards at their respective north camps. think they’ll oblige?

Part 3b, interlude.

I shall now break from telling you about the story of Ventari to tell you about Centaur culture. I am sure the reader knows of the recent battle of Shaemoor, but of course they should also know that that was not the first battle of Shaemoor. Before it was a human garrison, it was the Centaur city of Skystride. The city stretched from the edge of Janthir Bay, to the lower portion of Gendarran fields. My father grew up in this city, and saw its rise and fall. Until the Human invasion of our city, Centaur knew nothing of the types of war that humans were used to. We always resolved our conflicts through negotiation and mutual respect. We were also very friendly with the western clans of Norn, and my father’s best friend growing up was the Warrior Skyjor Crowsbane, whose name I was given. The trade between our Norn friends and the Centaur went uninterrupted for over two centuries, both peoples had a deep respect for each other.
When it was obvious that there was no alternative to fighting, we Centaur prayed to the Hysminai, the spirits of fighting and combat. Our great war god Thalius was also prayed to, and many victories were given to us through his omniscience. However we made absolutely sure that the villages we attacked could go on after we left. This was something we did not see in human battles, they always wiped out their enemies.
Skystride was a place of many Centaur tribes, from Harathi to Modniir. The lord of the city was named Og’Rahn Torv’rei. Our city had a market district, a port district, a temple district, and a residential district. The main part of the city was roughly two square miles and housed over two thousand Centaur. Every Centaur house in the city was made up of stone from the nearby quarry, with ornate facades and colossal columns that held up the roof of each building. This was the peak of Centaur affluence and prosperity.
Thalius is but one of the gods my people pray to. Krevos is our god of commerce and trade, Nor’dish is our goddess of nature and fertility, and Skrii’Rosh, the lord of the Skies. All of the buildings built in the city of Skystride have the doors facing north, in honor of the great Skrii’Rosh. Despite having all these gods of our own, we still had a great respect for the goddess Melandru, whom is rumored to be the mother of the entire Centaur people.

hahaha guess i’m not the only one afraid of necro! must be an engi thing! being bleed, poison, chilled, and burn while feared will be “fun”

necro’s actually the only class that can’t inflict burning. i mained an engi for the longest of times, and quite frankly i’m a little disappointed at the reaction of the eng community.

Fess up if you got spiked by a baby quaggan tonight. I want to know who my victims were.

I had a humbling experience with a quaggan stabbing me right through the heart last night. I brought a tray of cherry pies and thought you were innocent….boy was I wrong and my wondercat charr will never be the same. He has nightmares of being drowned by quaggans everytime he closes his eyes now.

Part 3a, Visions

As Ventari and I were speaking, all sounds around us seemed to stop. I knew everyone was still celebrating, but I could see and hear only Ventari. The rest of the people in the village turned into faceless beings.
“Crowsbane…I need to see father, now. If we don’t tell him soon I fear I’ll never be able to. Why are you looking at me like that, brother?”
I shook my head, in an attempt to dispel the vision. Ventari placed his hands firmly on my shoulders and shook me violently.
“I-I just had a vision, I think. All the faces of the villagers turned to stone. We really need to just find father.” I said, exhaling slowly.
With that, Ventari and I were off to father’s longhouse. I could see no stars in the sky, and the skywinds were picking up. In the midst of a celebration, Ventari and I began to share a sorrowful dream and vision with the high sage.
After hearing about our experience, father took us back outside behind his longhouse.
“My sons.” Og’Rahn said, pointing up to the stars, and tracing out a contellation. “Do you see that constellation? It is the constellation Ulgoth.”
Ventari and I both looked at each other, confused.
“What’s an Ulgoth?” I asked.
Father laughed.
“It’s an ancient Centaur word, that hasn’t been used in centuries except to describe this constellation. It means he who cannot be tamed.”
“What does this have to do with our visions?” Ventari demanded.
Father paused for a moment, then spoke slowly:
“The prophecy. In times of hardship and strife, an Ulgoth will rise to defeat the oppressors, or die trying. Your visions have been seen before, by other young warriors. The visions are the gods trying to show you something. Now go, and get some rest.”
Ventari and I bowed our heads and went to our longhouse and laid down for bed.

why are the ‘jobs’ of guild wars 2 about as profitable as investing with Bernie Madoff?
seriously anet, i love crafting…but not guild wars 2 crafting. put so much in to get so little out. Jeweler used to be profitable, but since everything can be obtained in open world pve(heck, even in wvw you can get exotic drops) why does it still cost a kittenload of mats to make the highest tier gear(some gear i understand, like destroyer and corrupted, but not basic exotics that sell for ~1-2g)? There’s not even a way to set your crafted gear aside from anyone else’s, thus taking any amount of achievement right out of it. there’s no ‘best’ armorsmith, jeweler, or chef. i imagine some players are even more bothered about it than i am.

500 Badges of honor!?

Come on GW2 team this is dumb.. some players do not like WvW or PvP.. yet for us to get our legendary you require us to do this, WvW is flat out boring and the drop rate of a badge is dumb. I kill numerous people and seems like I get a badge 1 out of every 7 players vanished. At least let us earn badges in real PvP or something instead of Zerg WvW or please consider in the future an alternative to the badges.

guess what this means! time to stop being a carebear and go to wvw.
