As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Why is it that people think the way to improve WvW is to clutter it up with more PvE-style stuff?? Why can’t you instead try to come up with ways to improve the actual fight experience? Or the map strategy? Or make defense less tedious?
Not that ANet will listen anyway, of course, but at least there would be less drivel here on the forums.
i recommending pve things in my list? well cut my hair and call me winston churchill.
Anet please add Dragon to WvW
how about reskinning the grub to Zhaitan but it keeping the grub abilities?
GOM would never win another wvw again ever.
I think if you’re going to post a recruitment topic you should at least be truthful and/or accurate.
Kaineng’s Oceanic crew isn’t nearly as good as you say, we smashed them every night against much larger numbers. You’re talking about KN owning the PvDoor gap between NA/Oceanic and Oceanic/SEA and SEA/EU, not the Oceanic timezone itself.
Our timezone is about 4-5 hours (7pm-11pm/midnight our time) and our PPT was always higher than Kaineng during that period unless we took the night off.
Don’t get me wrong, Kaineng is a great community and we had some good fights but you need to get your facts straight.
they are currently on a power trip. leave a message after the beep.
-More types of NPC units
-More objectives to take IE vantage points, more neutral tribesNPCs will never serve any purpose but to be outwitted, and if you make them too good then its going to be PvEvP… err WvWvWvE. Or maybe WEvWEvWE?
-New types of siege engines
Such as? I think we’ve pretty much covered the basics of “useful siege for sieging”; we have anti-personnel, anti-door, anti-wall, anti-siege, and anti-everything. If I can make a suggestion, build-able barricades (but limit to only 1 per very large area), as its the only real lacking build type.
-A cavalry type siege weapon? Charr(iots)?[hurr]
Mesmers already exisit.
-Keep/castle exclusive armories. IE: the charrzooka pickups at the jormag event. would be another upgrade
Me likely.
-Spiked doors for a tier 3 door upgrade
(Superior) Arrow carts already exist.
-Most of the above requires bigger maps so…bigger maps or more of them
Maps are already as big as they can be within the specs of the engine.
PS: world vs. world needs to be more about strategy and less about heart of the swarm
It is… (*sic: depending on the tier).
the point of the ‘more siege weaponry and cavalry units’ is as follows:
i think i’d rather have a unit of warriors with rifles on chariots or something instead of one mesmer portal moving some golems. and for one obvious reason: that cavalry unit would wipe the floor with those golems and mesmer and be back home for dolyak roast. which would require that mesmer and those guarding him or her to be that much more strategic with how they are moving the golems.
superior arrow carts are defensive (long) range siege weapons, spiked doors serve no purpose other than to slightly damage the rams. not seeing a correlation.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
there’s no getting around the fact that world vs. world needs some additions. this thread hopes to compile some of those additions that might make a difference the longevity of the gametype. since this is a community thread, i’m hoping other players will add to it.
Things I would Like to see:
-More types of NPC units
-More mobility and a minor ability to command weaker NPC units
-New types of siege engines
-Charr weaponry installments on towers/keeps/etc
-A cavalry type siege weapon? Charr(iots)?[hurr]
-Keep/castle exclusive armories. IE: the charrzooka pickups at the jormag event. would be another upgrade
-Spiked doors for a tier 3 door upgrade
-More objectives to take IE vantage points, more neutral tribes
-Most of the above requires bigger maps so…bigger maps or more of them

poor ronny.. he is either popular or just not liked. i feeel sorry for ronny. hang in there ronny
as from the server he left before leaving AR, GOM hasn’t forgotten. the fact tcmm is on the winning server this matchup doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Well, Kormak is a charr obviously. i’ll see if i can find a screenie.
Lolz. Bragging rights for taking down doors of a server with a lower wvwvw population.
But…if it makes people feel better, then it’s all right by me. hands out gold stars
Just make sure that you don’t leave a mess in the towers when we re-claim everything later today. I mean really…some of you are very messy house guests.
You will have to pardon NSP they are having trouble grasping the new reality they find themselves in.
For so long they have been the underdog. The small server. So when they were posting about how good their small teams were. Or screen shots of them taking keeps. Or them turning a Borderland a certain color. It was cool. They were the scrappy underdog standing up to the big mean server.
Most of them don’t seem to have grasp the concept that they are the bully on the block now. Turned a bl all one color? Great you are suppose to. Winning? Great you are suppose to. Holding a keep against two servers? Pretty run of the mill when you out number them both. Camping a spawn? Par for the course. Great small teams?? Don’t matter anymore, your size will get it done without you.
I’m sure they will calm down. Eventually.
i would say GOM will be in that position someday but i’ve been holding my breath on it since a month after release so….yep. we’ll be in t7 awhile.
like this one actually. i’m so used to drawing’s of characters so it’s a nice change up.
Kormak and the Thief
I was running around Stonemist again, usual rounds and all that. I happened to come by a thief, pretty little thing she was. She was wearing this armor set that looked more like lingerie than protective gear. How that protects anything is confusing to me but I’ll just go with it.
So she was running around knifing people and such and then she saw me and went invisible. I looked around for about thirty seconds, and after I didn’t see her for that long I just went back to my business.
That was a mistake because she started attacking me. So I started running off because she was dirtying my shirt. There’s nothing like getting charr fur out of a leather jerkin, let me tell you.
The whole time she was attacking me she kept screaming out “Sir! Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Melandru?”
“No thiefy, no time for Melandru. Stop hitting me! It tickles.” I said, shaking my mane and scratching at her.
She wouldn’t stop. After about twenty seconds she was gone again. Then I felt a sharp pain in my back.
“Should’ve given me a moment to tell you about the awesomeness of Melandru.”
“The Charr need no gods!” I said as I set off a bomb in her face.
I love this thread and will bump it anytime I can, even though I’m one of those “art threads”. It sure would be fun to collaborate, very fun and creative characters you’ve made there.
thanks a lot man. like i said, Kormak Wildborne is my character, and the other characters are based on people i’ve met. Edu’s workday doodle’s has been something i’ve frequented lately, so don’t mind the distaste you got from the ‘all those art threads’ comment. i like to see variety so i have a recommendation/question.
would you mind drawing Lola? obviously there are no screenshots. she’d be a human mesmer of average height, brown hair/eyes. the rest i leave to your judgement
The original Guild Wars, AKA GW1, was based around PvP as an end game. The most glorious and famed of all PvP was Guild vs. Guild. It was one of the best PvP modes ever created in game. It had observer mode, big cash rewards, ladders and tons of Pew Pew and QQ. Everyone thought it was epic and awesome and thought that GW2 would make GvG even better.
And then GW2 came.
And there was no GvG.
And everyone that liked PvP in GW1 decided to quit and play LoL.
And now they just have a game named Guild Wars2, but left out the GvG and we all can’t figure out why.
yeah from what i’m reading through the responses to this thread i came to the same conclusion
The Guild Wars are the three wars among different guilds in the three human kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr. The third war ended only because the charr invasion from the north meant an even bigger threat to the three kingdoms.
Little is known abut the First Guild War, except that it was a war between Kryta and Ascalon – Orr did not join either of the first two wars.
The Second Guild War was memorialized by the construction of Surmia in 1020 AE. Ascalon was the kingdom victorious of this war according to the Historical Monument of Surmia. When it actually began or ended is unknown.
The Third Guild War lasted for 57 years (from 1013 AE until 1070 AE). The war began between Kryta and Ascalon much like the first two wars. When the two nations brought the war to Orr’s borders and within Arah’s streets, the nation rose to defend itself, escalating the conflict and resulting in casualties that eclipsed those of the previous two Guild Wars combined.
The war caused much suffering and hatred between the people of the three kingdoms, and this shows itself in the form of mistrust between certain individuals, such as King Adelbern, in the present day. During this war, public opinions of their leaders fell, which was one of the factors for Adelbern, then a war hero, being crowned as king instead of Barradin.
The Charr took advantage of the humans’ infighting and launched their own invasion, bringing an end to the Third Guild War through the Searing and, indirectly, the Cataclysm. In present day, the Third Guild War is often referred to as the Guild War.From http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Guild_Wars
Now, I don’t doubt that the guild wars name was there at first because it was meant to be the focus of the game, and the bit of lore came afterwards to justify it, but still, it’s there..
IIRC in the personal story I think it’s Trehearne that talks about the guild wars.
lol. trahearne. go away treeperson.
obviously this is a sequel to the original(duh) where guilds were formed to vie for power in the political system, or so the wiki says. so my question is, and don’t get me wrong i love the game, why does a game called guild wars 2 not have…guild wars?
Ya just like Final Fantasy how many of them are there now? Its just a name it always has been and truly there is not much in names. The idea of guild wars is more then just fighting in combat with other guilds there resources if any thing GW2 has more guild vs guild then there ever was in gw1. There WvW rep for your guild there guild rep for spvp there guild rep for world events and there guild rep for guild events.
in my experiences in wvw, you’re a guild member, but more importantly you’re part of a server. i have trouble connecting world and guild as the same entity
I am assuming that you did not play the first game, but if I am wrong than I am sorry for that assumption. The title of the original game “Guild Wars” was a reference to a war that took place before the game started. So basically it provides a nice back drop for the story, and some justified lore reasons why guilds are held in such high esteem.
Edit: Edited for clarity.
no you’re not wrong. i didn’t play the first game. my question was mostly for irony’s sake
I play some WvW, but very little, and mostly for dailies. these questions are just silly and if you want to convince anyone to come over, it wouldn’t do anything.
1.) Because you need to join a server to play the game.
2.) Present an argument on why WvW is fun, which you didn’t.
3.) I don’t care for dungeons either.
4.) No. But come on, the drops in WvW are awful, the risk vs reward is horrible and gives little incentive.
5.) Irrelevant
6.) You’re doing a crappy job of convincing them, especially with threads like these and such an entitled attitude.
7.) Fame and recognition from whom? Lol, you think most of us care about respect from you guys.I play what little WvW I do because…
1.) It’s fun to lay siege and kill other Zergs.
2.) People are helpful and aren’t arrogant and elitist. Attitude matters.
the reason my post is like this is to get the attention of guilds on my server, which in my experience, some are helpful and others are elitist try hards. i’m mostly going with what i know and have dealt with.
on any server.
1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(other than friends)
2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?
3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?
4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i farm maybe 2 hours a week and that’s a 7g profit each week i’m sorry but i can’t see that as valid. to each their own maybe)
5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Legendary?
6.) to my GOM bros specifically, some of the PvE guilds on our server are upwards of 300+(and active), can you grasp how much of a difference just 1/10 of your guild members would make if they were active in wvw daily?
7.) World Vs. World is one of(probably the) best way for your guild to not only get recognition, but respect. if your guild is influential enough here…you get the point.
Something i’ve realized, that the fact of the matter is, PvE heavy servers will stay that way until WvW’s incentives surpass PvE’s. That or thief gets nerfed hardcore.
However, if open world pvp were introduced…the tune might change quickly.
k, gripe over.“World Vs. World is one of(probably the) best way for your guild to not only get recognition, but respect. if your guild is influential enough here…you get the point.”
This should be removed. it’s just plain stupid.
As for the rest of it, the “incentives” will never surpass the PvE, for a player that want’s nothing to do with “WvW”. And, if you want “World PvP”, then go play a game that has it, instead of trying to force it into THIS one.
hey man, i found all my guilds through that and so have most of the people in my friends list. you calling that stupid is a little weird. and select few wvw guilds are even respected in the pve spectrum, that’s a very few number of guilds though. point in fact: if you have a commander tag and are a successful commander, there isn’t much your guild can’t do. whether it being the siege of stonemist castle or taking out jormag. the last part of the post wasn’t anything but an opinion. if taking a tower gave you 50s i imagine your reply would be quite different.
obviously this is a sequel to the original(duh) where guilds were formed to vie for power in the political system, or so the wiki says. so my question is, and don’t get me wrong i love the game, why does a game called guild wars 2 not have…guild wars?
This thread looks like it belongs in the WvW forum, not dungeon forum. Secondly, I don’t find WvW fun. Only reason I tried it was for 100% map completion, and after I couldn’t do that, I decided not to bother with it.
since the post says ‘to all the pve exclusive players’ i can’t imagine why those players would be in the wvw forums. since…they’re pve exclusive. that and Anet moved it here.
the OP has been edited, but it’s unfortunate that if it were a positive post this thread would probably have less views and most definitely less replies.
There’s still about 15 HH member from GoM camping our spawn in EB.
poor form.
Yeah, supposedly we couldn’t get in. Now we’re getting some love from Head Hunts [HH] on GoM. Very sportsmanlike, sirs, very sportsmanlike.
depending what server you’re playing on, deal with it. if you’re on hod also, deal with it. six times today i saw your BL untouched, and your EB mostly untouched.
charricycles.
Weapon Selection
The engineers as you know have the most limited weapon arsenal to choose from. Yes, kits exist, but kits are ABILITIES, and should be treated as abilities, not weapons. Expand the engineers’ arsenal a bit. For example, Hammers, Maces, or Swords.
Giving Engineers some melee capability would give ALOT more use to the Tool and Flamethrower kits, helping to make them a viable pick again. It would also open a WIDE range of new builds. Some abilities you may have overlooked earlier.now that you mention it-i would like a melee weapon. it could make me serve as tank even. plus-weapon swapping is not avalible to the engineer, making him tacticly a lot less proficent
imagine an axe/shield Engineer? flaming axes…exploding axes…electrified axes…omnom.
as overpowered as that sounds it wouldn’t compare to thief’s or warriors output.
perhaps a class that combines two. IE a class inspired by Geralt from the Witcher(aka a shadow warrior or something) i’d love to see what arenanet would do with class combinations and what their twist would be on a Necromancer/Warrior hybrid. i definitely feel there needs to be at least one more heavy armor class. like fallen guardians or something.
i would call this class the Vampire Knight.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
mature? nah that’s just female armor._. looks good though
I am currently running this, doing events, dungeons and fractals with this build.
I added a screenshot, though I only use the 2nd best sharpening stone and no bloddlust going on (250 + something power missing).
The 25 points in Spite are solely for Target the Weak, this trait is a beast, like Close to Death just with almost 100% uptime.
You can wield axe/dagger+horn in the 2nd weapon set and take Banshees Wail, Runes of the Pack would actually complement this.
The 15 points more in Spite would only increase your damage for15% around half of the time (when you crit) + another 5% if your lf is over 50%.
uh…you’re running this for dungeons? the only way you’ll know 100% that this build is viable is to take it in wvw imo
i’m running axe/focus for the extra vuln and the chill. which i think is much more beneficial than dagger conds if you’re going for raw damageI already said I took this into the wvwvw. With double wells, marks and lifetransfer and axe’ing afterwards. After an hour of zerg vs zerg fighting my bags were full. I died only when our zerg was overwhelmed, so it worked really well.
that’s good i’m glad to be wrong. especially when my necro is so low, can you recommend a pvt/carrion gear build?
power/condition build.
i use the axe/focus and staff and i’m looking to have roughly 25k hp and high-ish toughness by the time i’m 80.
tips? links?
PS: more tips than links, i tend to dislike copy and pasting someone else’s setups
Guilds and friends “are” a valid reason. If their guild chooses a home server, their influence gets stacked on that server. To be in that guild in a different server would be purely for mingling purposes. Alot of people don’t have fun WvW’ing or pvping (I love pvp and killing people). It’s just not everyone’s cup of tea. Trying to tell anyone that their opinion of what they enjoy is invalid is just inconsiderate and immature.
obviously the friends issue from my perspective is invalid now because transfers aren’t free. however dungeons still give a crapton of influence especially if the whole guild does them hourly.
-Culling makes WvW an awful experience
-Running in circles with the occasional stop to hit on a door and building a ram is not really exciting
-Fighting for an arbitray scoreboard in an instanced nothingness is boring. That is my biggest issue really. Not having factions is a good thing in most cases, but it’s awful and boring for pvp. You fight against people who’re the exact same as you, over a place that is “somewhere” and for no reason.
apparently fighting a risen with no real intelligence is more fun. problem with the logic of your second point is without wvw buffs, your MF, healing power, HP, etc. is significantly lower. especially if you have a lot already. actually i agree with your last point, having no factions in a game called Guild Wars is kind of…odd. especially in the presence of in-game player joined factions.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
Many PvE players do not care for PvP. That’s why they are exclusively playing PvE. It’s something that you will never be able to change.
it’s unfortunate to say the least. which is where question 1 comes in
Speaking as someone who doesn’t even have 10gold let alone 100g, yes repair bills are not my favourite pastime. It’s often a case of “here comes a zerg”, “oh look I’m dead”, “oh look my armour broke”.. and then I tot up how much silver I made in the encounter…
Sweet kitten all…
Still at least there’s no waypoint cost or that would really peeve people off.
i haven’t needed gear in months so i don’t really have much use for gold, i end up profiting farming for like an hour a week so ….
fact of the matter, on GOM specifically, we’re a full server with barely any solid representation in WvW.
we need your help.
I am currently running this, doing events, dungeons and fractals with this build.

So you’re not asking players why they are on tehir server..you’re asking guilds?
guilds are made up of players so…
on any server.
1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(guilds and friends aren’t a valid reason since transfers were free for four months)Why are guilds and friends not a valid reason to choose a server? Even with free transfers, most people choose to play with their friends and/or guilds.
probably because you could move guilds and friends for free?…

I don’t think you’ll find many PvE exclusive players in the WvW section of the forums.

yup. somehow GOM needs to get all the pve tryhards out of lion’s arch and have a reason to be on GOM instead of somewhere else.
while the omg condescending fights are fun at GOM keep right now, you can fight each other any time you want NSP/HOD. pretty bored of the double team.
Ha!
Here’s my opinion: we have some people who think Henge of Denravi is a push over and want to fight them, even while Darkhaven/Northern Shiverpeaks is hitting us. An hour later it’s all us back in our garrison/Eternal Battleground keep going “omg 2v1”.
darkhaven shiverpeaks 2: the less intelligent zerg version.
while the omg condescending fights are fun at GOM keep right now, you can fight each other any time you want NSP/HOD. pretty bored of the double team.
coming from someone who’s played every class, i can say the skill thief requires to play is significantly lower than most of the others. the things thief can do that the others can’t can be insufferable at times. i understand that thief is the stealth class, and that it is a burst class, but there is no way to reveal stealth’d enemies nor is there really a way(no matter how much armor you get, i’ve had 3200 armor and still been 50%‘d by a backstab) i’ve tried matching that damage on other classes and i just can’t. if classes like Thief’s role is damage, i recommend clearly defining in the character creation that this is their role. if other classes exceed at support, make them called support classes in their description. as well as difficulty levels in star-rating form at character creation.
I mained mesmer for when the game came out I didn’t make a thief until after the last nerf (dancing dagger damage). I found thief to be alot more difficult than my mesmer.
Mesmer is like don’t get your hands dirty except to blurred frenzy gameplay. I didn’t feel I needed to know other classes abilities on my mesmer, 100b, eviserate etc. When I made my thief and I started dying to stuff I didn’t on my mesmer thats when I began to learn more about other classes etc.
So you have my story and your story showing total opposites. I feel like mesmer is so faceroll its not funny compared to thief. When it comes time to fight I hardly ever really had to think about how I was going to engage the rotation was pretty much the same everytime because it worked. I can’t do that on my thief unless I am running p/d, or full gc blow my load build.
sorry i left mesmer out. that isn’t exactly a difficult class either.
I don’t find any of the classes in this game to be all that difficult to play and kill the vast majority of players in WvW/sPvP… I’m not saying I’m an amazing top tier player… just that I’m used to games with much higher learning curves and shorter reaction times required than GW2. GW2 also has a lot of casuals. And that’s ok… but the game shouldn’t be balanced based off of the casuals.
Thanks to friends, I’ve plaid every one at 80 and none of them were really much of a challenge to play decently… at least decently enough to kill a thief… it’s very much a skill issue vs a class issue.
Once you’re decent enough as a player you really shouldn’t have any more issues with thieves than any other class. After they open (which you should see coming if you’re paying attention) they are very predictable and easy to counter. Warrior is set up in a similar way. They have some devastating attacks that take the least amount of skill to pull of (foos class). At the same time they are very predictable. At the same time you won’t catch them killing a vet player with it very often.
As far as taking 50% with a backstab while having high toughness… is your hp low? Toughness works best as anti-sustained damage, vit works as anti burst/anti condition. Tbh… 50%… that’s not that hard to recover from and at the very least cause the fight to a standstill or be able to escape enough to run to allies… worse than that happens to me all day long when I get jumped by multiple people… and I’m usually able to recover… and get away… on any of my toons…
point in case: almost all major mmo developers favor the rogue, warrior, and mage. how powerful are those classes? does the engineer have the same damage capabilities as any of those three?
Masters of defense too with perma stealth
engineer: master of control, able to easily run around in areas 6+ levels above themselves and contribute enough to events 10 levels above themselves to receive gold. My engineer feels OP to me. It’s a matter of perception. Try playing a class before suggesting “fixes.”
Engineer is the most underplayed class, which means it has the least amount of attention from arenanet. which means it’s underpowered.
coming from someone who’s played every class, i can say the skill thief requires to play is significantly lower than most of the others. the things thief can do that the others can’t can be insufferable at times. i understand that thief is the stealth class, and that it is a burst class, but there is no way to reveal stealth’d enemies nor is there really a way(no matter how much armor you get, i’ve had 3200 armor and still been 50%‘d by a backstab) i’ve tried matching that damage on other classes and i just can’t. if classes like Thief’s role is damage, i recommend clearly defining in the character creation that this is their role. if other classes exceed at support, make them called support classes in their description. as well as difficulty levels in star-rating form at character creation.

bump for dry spell and maybe feedback
Starting to look a lot like free speech in here. Careful peeps, it’s only Saturday.
please criticize when your server isn’t dominating.
Man I was almost with you on that one. I was half with you on Braveheart but then you just lost me on CoD. Anyone enlighten me?
already on it
there
as an engineer, sometimes you feel like william wallace in braveheart after the first major battle of the movie. but most of the time you’re Ramirez from COD modern warfare 2.
“RAMIREZ! there’s a siege golem next to that reinforced gate! take this spoon and bring it down!”
coming from someone who’s played every class, i can say the skill thief requires to play is significantly lower than most of the others. the things thief can do that the others can’t can be insufferable at times. i understand that thief is the stealth class, and that it is a burst class, but there is no way to reveal stealth’d enemies nor is there really a way(no matter how much armor you get, i’ve had 3200 armor and still been 50%‘d by a backstab) i’ve tried matching that damage on other classes and i just can’t. if classes like Thief’s role is damage, i recommend clearly defining in the character creation that this is their role. if other classes exceed at support, make them called support classes in their description. as well as difficulty levels in star-rating form at character creation.
i’m not seeing many posts by HOD or GOM.
so here’s one. it’s nice to see TCMM on the opposing side once again as if one insult wasn’t enough.
