i don’t mean to spam my opinions everywhere but, im the kinda guy that never really had a voice. To prove im not bullkittening imagine graduating high school and choosing to get away from the life I knew, to the one I didnt: living with an autisic parent who was undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. he is a baby boomer. do math.
in learning how to do that(long road), i learned many other things. like knowing i had a learning disability and learned differently. so here’s how i learned differently: what you provided. Because I believe the true lesson of guild wars is fact vs. belief. I see what you did anet, through advancing the timeline of your game you made it relevant. you thought bigger, things are different but still the same. (general shepherd, balthazar) because i found in games what i couldn’t in real life: men to look up to. strategies that would get me killed in real life have no consequence here, and by allfather’s spear i enacted them.
second, dragons are powerful and dangerous but they can be killed if you find a way, as are gods. guilds. parties. factions. feel me?
we are dragons. we are gods of war. a culture was trying to tell you this: the norn. the sylvari (who changed the most, us.) the asura who knew too much but cared too little (changed), the humans who were too dogmatic to do anything, the norn who were too set in their ways. all the factions within the latters and formers, back to the beginning. If anet saw this coming, who else do you think did?
thirdly, be a world vs. warrior and never attack first. players make decisions, npc’s make choices.

Well…..

easier fights does not mean better ones.

Better stuff in gw2 means easy stuff, and be Successful means being good.
You are in gw2 where 10+ vs 1 is consederated skill, same as some think 40 vs a gate(empty strcuture farm) its very skillfull.

gw2 standards are a bit weird…..

then i pray the sith take over anet so wvw can be a proper war.

I have the best wvw roaming build power, can 1vx, great for small group roaming, and alspo tags entire zergs, great stealth access, big damage.
Stats are 2300 power, 2900 armor, 20k hp 200% crit dmg 50.00% crit chance 180 heal power 0 condi dmg. oh, it completely relies on the 63% base boon duri with the concentration sigil, rock out those 100% boons.

so you gave the weakness to your build right away, i hope our servers match up soon then.

There’s no question thief has high mobility but that doesn’t make the class OP.

And Crinn there is no question badly played is badly played. But good thieves know the limits of what a thief can do and learning those limits is the first step to beating thieves.

Most thieves aren’t good enough that they are “unkillable.” If any player can’t beat a class no matter what then they need to learn how that class ticks.

You would be correct if the primary focus of PvP weren’t mobility. The fact that Thief reigns supreme in mobility is a problem when the meta of a point capture focuses heavily on roaming and decapping.

Thieves are, more or less, unkillable in skilled hands. If you somehow manage to land CC amidst their flurry of iframes, they will stunbreak out, and if they’re clearly outmatched they can simply run.

What, specifically, would you suggest is the counter to this playstyle?

Edit: To be clear, I’m not suggesting that Thieves are statistically OP. Or even that they’re OP in a match breaking way. What I’m suggesting is that Thieves so clearly embody an essential role in the meta and there’s no counter to that role and no profession which performs it better.

to be honest, a lot of the fights i’ve lost as a thief are to players who haven’t panicked and i expected them to. be that person i guess? i mean you’d be surprised how much fear affects your abilities in this game, not to say that you’re someone that panics, though.

i think if the rifle performs like a winchester 72 instead of a barret light 50 we should be okay. the ‘deadeye’ implies, to me at least, something like an old western sharpshooter.

HMS Divinity vs Predator

It’s an easy answer … Predator.
Predator and dual wield H.O.P.E

There is only one Legendary “Rifle” in game, it is Predator.
HMS Divinity isn’t a rifle. It’s a “Boat” that happened to be shaped like a rifle canon.
It’s not even a competition in terms of their look.
Predator wins by far margin.

since HOT, some classes absolutely should not be played without their elite spec (looking at you revenant, lesser extent engineer) and some should take it rather than not.
so this brings me to the question:
how is arenanet going to make old e-specs viable when their are two elite specs to choose from for each class? the only way i see new ones working is if they blow the current ones right out of the water, and that’s a problem in itself..

scrapper is what makes engineer viable right now. though what was mentioned in the original post has been an issue since launch, with the only ‘remedy’ being scrapper. now i know why they’re taking forever to announce their progress on the expansion that’s a WIP.

I can not do anything else but disagree.

Bard is better for the Ranger because generic irl lore goes along with it much better than Thief. I do agree we could use some group utility and also that Rangers already do have their fair share of them as Druids. Double casting might be okay if Thief used cooldowns, but now if you learn to manage initiative right you can be very efficient in battle.

Thief as a class can be very useful to group now. I’m not very experienced with WvW, but for example there we can use stealth to see if enemy is behind a corner and then coordinate an attack with main group -> I attack from behind as others attack to the front.

Instead AoE ressing I would love to have a skill to force dead ppl to teleport to nearest uncontested wp ^^

Also I would like to add I say this all as quite casual Thief, I do not have the best understanding of out mechanics but I like to think that I know at least something.

well hold on there. let’s think about bards as they were in dragon age. (what if scenario)
what if they drew their inspiration for the bard elite spec from characters like Lelliana from Dragon age origins? She was a ‘bard’, she played music in taverns, party events for the elite, etc. she was also an assassin that doubled as a chantry sister, and the assailant no one saw coming.
I think that arenanet should draw more inspiration from dragon age when it comes to rogues. if thief with rifle/longbow plays out (if it’s given to thief) how archery plays out in dragonage 2/inquisition, i believe we’ll all be very happy.

They do, however chat filters and other methods are not justifiable causes for one to violate the terms of service.

….To those with an overly officious and annoying mentality. Players cry harrassment over anything these days even when they’re willing participants. It’s even dangerous if you like freedom. I personally hate being harrassed by groups of people, but that’s another, different level to this generic warning against even the smallest amount of expression.

Picture of the precursor Medium Envoy armor. Since precursors resemble the final item I think we can use it to judge the likelihood of a long coat on the Legendary.

nothing wrong at looking outside the box the potential problem is that many like to play mage/elementalist – its a class that has been around since the 70’s and is enjoyed because of a style of gameplay. A mage using guns could work – but then why impact a design philosophy when you could create another class that allows you to specialize in guns, say a technomancer (for example) best of both worlds.

The real danger is that if you have a class that does too many things then you start to homogenize and generalize, you lose flavor.

Dmg we have a lot of options (scepter an staff needs a tweak or 2) its not damage we need, its mitigation of damage or fluidity of movement, or something to help conditions and another off hand would give a more choice. Main hand we already have short medium and long range attack.

If it was main hand I think sword would be more in keeping with elementalist than a pistol, i remember playing wildstar with pistol and the flavour really feels like a thief/ranged melee rather than a castor.

i think we can agree that arenanet is famous for letting their design vision get in the way of practicality. wildstar on the otherhand, doesn’t seem to have that problem. i’m open to anything that is fun and works. scepter is kind of fun and sort of works. staff (for me) just works, i don’t particularly find it fun. pistol could be something different, it could offer attacks that function like true shot from dragon hunter (lightning) to skills that perform like engineer’s mortar kit.
do i think this option would be better suited to a class like mesmer? Yup. I’m just thinking outside the traditional box that mage has been put in.

I would prefer a more classic magical background for a new spec. Personally i think duel sceptre would be pretty good, with invisible on a shortish cooldown as a new defensive skill.

what would it do that the other offhands don’t? single target burst? have it.
aoe burst? have it.
ele needs more MH options.

it does help to know a thing or two about historical fighting!
so far the only game i’ve seen to come anywhere close to it is uh, for honor. i would LOVE to see our characters holding their claymores in their left hand while running. that would not only look awesome but yeah it would look awesome and physics wouldn’t break our characters arms off.

I’d only want it so it can do the job that scepter is already supposed to do, since we all know Anet will never in a million years turn scepter into something good.

that’s my reasoning. scepter will not get any better, so it’s time to hope for something different to take its place. i’m hoping it gets some ground targeted aoe (that travels, not drops)

i remember when i was fighting zhaitan i had no idea what was going on and he just….died.
sort of lost whatever faith i had in the game’s pve right then and there.

I remember getting owned in that fight on the airship back at launch. Lol. There were swarms of risen and AOE everywhere. I was on my new level 80 with rare armor/weapons (which was pretty standard for that time. I don’t think the average person had exotics back then and there were no ascended gear). Now the actual fight with the dragon was easy. But the fight against the oncoming mobs was not. Not for players in rare or even masterwork gear, which is probably what that fight is tuned for

So the problem is do they revamp the mobs for exotics/ascended or leave them at the masterwork/rare level. Because it’s going to be too hard or too easy for someone no matter what they do.

i’d rather them leave it and put resources into something else.

I don’t know why they didn’t revamp the “fight” (speaking of a time where the devs weren’t working on an expansion yet). It’s the main story of the core game and doesn’t give new players a good impression.

there are a lot of things that don’t leave a good taste in your mouth about the pve content, but yeah, that’s kind of a big thing. it’s the final boss of your game. it shouldn’t go the way of coripheus. (rather the other way around. i think the DAI devs played guild wars 2 and saw how to poorly end a main storyline.)
when i started:
i thought that zhaitan was a godlike dragon that i would become corrupted by simply being in his presence

halfway through:
still thought he was some uberpowerful being that we had no chance against.

end:
technology>magical nonsense.

Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?

I think that Legendary Armor being tied with the Raids is a skillful example of players manipulation from ANet’s part.

The main issue here is not why the Armor is tied with something, but Why after one year from the launch the promised Armor is not ingame?

Or we could take off the tinfoil and realize that the delay is likely caused by Anet having to divert resources into developing Living World content in addition to whatever early development they are doing on the next expac.

So the thing that should have been ready for the last expansion is delayed because now they need the resources for the next expansion? Sounds funny

Only a minority of players want legendary weapons. Most players want new content to play.

Living Story adds new content for pve players to play

When ANet realized that they may end up losing more players by not shifting focus to the Living Story than they would keep by focusing on the legendary weapons, they changed gears.

They had to choose between two evils. Neither choice was a good one. So they had to choose the one that impacted the game negatively the least.

Both MH pistol and OH pistol have potential. Afterall, one never load it’s pistol and have infinite amunition so this mean that you shot magic with it.

might be easier for them to implement since no additional animations on auto attack are needed.

Coping Terrible Balances(Hammer WvW)

maybe it’s because i’ve been playing engineer for so long that i’ve found workarounds to all of these problems, or maybe it’s my build/gear stat combinations. (sorry not sharing)
for me hammer was a dream come true on release, it gave me everything i had to work for when i was running a similar rifle build (same build/gear stats, yeah i like it that much.)
if you Really want a different perspective, hop onto a reaper and try to do similar things with it that you would on a scrapper engineer.
my one gripe is that engineer still has poor access to stability outside of slotting very sub-par skills.

So without telling us your gear because I don’t care what your stats are I’ll use my own always do and Tweak them to make it work how I want. But how do you get around having only one CC for Tactics and how are you holding an enemy still long enough to guarantee hits? How are you keeping sustained damage on an enemy? I’m refering to good players that know not to stand still and take the hits. Also how would me playing reaper in scrapper play style mean anything? They are two separate classes of course reaper wouldn’t have quite the mobility or stealth but they still deal a lot more damage can pop shroud ten times in a fight. But even with that low mobility still with a reaper just moving in combat they can negate a majority of scrapper hits.

tool kit pulls. hammer stuns. throw wrench. engineer lets you be creative. and playing a scrapper in a similar way to a reaper means something because one is supposed to have sustain via design philosophy, and one actually does, i’ll let you guess which one.

yeah, that problem is cross-class though. they sort of made the best possible weapons already available. i just think it’d be pretty cool to see considering that they’ll never buff scepter appropriately.

I doubt I’m the only one that noticed that in LS2 the “Master of Wind” used skills that eles have never been able to use?… and he did not use any weapons.

The Zephyrites use the skills from the Aspect Arena in combat.

I could see these being used as the basis for a new elite specialisation, with some tweaks. However, I don’t think it’s likely that we’ll see PCs being able to fight without weapons – the weapons are built into the game mechanics.

I know, I just used it as an example for not limiting the class, just because we are the “mage” of the game don’t mean we can’t change armor or fight like other classes.

We’re not the only ‘mage’ of the game. They spread ‘mage’ into 3 pieces: mesmers, elementalists and necromancers. The three altogether composes what we know as a traditional mage.

GW2 elementalist from my understanding of playing it is more or less dragon age’s version of a mage that uses only elemental skills. right down to some of the skill names.

That’s is why we keep asking for Anet to change Reaper’s Onslaught so the attack speed increase affects Greatsword too.

at this point i don’t believe common sense QoL changes will ever happen for necromancer. the attack speed trait introduced for mesmer’s scepter did wonders. i can’t exaggerate how much better of a weapon it was because of it.

NA T1 EB was unplayable last night. Skills were taking a good 10-20 seconds to activate.

yeah i’m in t3, similar problem. i’ll be looking at a ping anywhere from 80-115 ms and players everywhere are jumping around. this is a very recent issue.

the only legendary rifle is a sniper rifle. there.

maybe it’s because i’ve been playing engineer for so long that i’ve found workarounds to all of these problems, or maybe it’s my build/gear stat combinations. (sorry not sharing)
for me hammer was a dream come true on release, it gave me everything i had to work for when i was running a similar rifle build (same build/gear stats, yeah i like it that much.)
if you Really want a different perspective, hop onto a reaper and try to do similar things with it that you would on a scrapper engineer.
my one gripe is that engineer still has poor access to stability outside of slotting very sub-par skills.

A random gw2 video popped up on my youtube recommendations about greatsword reapers, i really enjoyed what i saw and having recently quit wow i decided to give gw2 another go, got to 80 did a bunch of stuff in hot and now i feel like the entire thing was a waste of time.

Outside of solo pve content (which is trivial no matter what profession you are) just cannot enjoy necro at all, PVP wise if you want the class to have low mobility you need to give them pretty good survivability, reapers shroud is not enough. Its just such a pathetic spec, low mobility, average dps (when you can actually hit someone) if you cant hit people you do 0 dps, no survivability, low heals, it all seems to boil down to the reapers shroud.

I genuinely feel that even if you gave gs reapers the mobility of a thief they would still be a completely pointless spec and that is pretty sad.

Pve wise it looks good on paper but what is the point of playing necro when you could play an elementalist and do near double the dps? also at the end of the day the rotation is god awful boring, spam your mainhand auto attack whatever weapon you’re using be it scepter dagger etc to build lifeforce then spam gs gravedigger all day sub 50% is not compelling gameplay at all.

Gs reaper got me into gw2 and quite possibly will leave me uninterested in gw2 just as quick.

yeah, greatsword is fun, but faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from practical. save for encounters of the stupid kind.

love that. it’s why i’ve all but stopped maining the class in wvw.
anet seemed to believe that it was a good idea to make a class so vulnerable to interrupts that in a scenario like this, many of the other classes would be able to escape, but not necromancer.

Exactly who do you expect to run away from 5 thieves?

sitting at low pings, low everything as far as game usage, yet still i’m getting a ton of rubber banding and skill lag.

are you doing some sort of testing or something, anet?
