I would personally like to see a class use a greatsword as if it didn’t weigh next to nothing.

it got removed due to practicality purposes. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve gotten killed on invulnerable guards in a borderland becuase of the unwanted leap.

GS has the best damaging phantasm skill. We might struggle to find a good off-hand to go with axe.

Focus will be the best OH to go with Axe if the spec has anything at all to do with DPS or good cleave attacks (both of which base mesmer is sorely lacking). The ability to group up enemies to be cleaved down by the axe will be a pretty powerful combo in PvE. In PvP, I can see torch being used with it depending on the range that Axe has.
mesmer also has the problem of melee sustain, so unless the axe has a reliable leap or some kind flurry (with movement) i’m not sure how i’ll feel about it.
the revenant proved that auto attack animations can be diversified and still be effective and look interesting, how about expanding that to more weapons?

Also I hope you don’t mean rev sword auto animation. It almost makes me not play rev. Ranger sword auto would be a better example of new unique animations.
ranger sword animation is quite awful. it’s like the character is attempting to slap away a fly.
as for reaper, it’s artificially slow becuase of how strong it is. also no one anywhere would be able to perform gravedigger without seriously injuring their back.
i’m talking about things that might look a bit more tame, maybe even take half-swording into consideration. would just be cool to see different animations spread across the weapons.

I think its called low skill floor and not high skill floor if something is easy to play and do well with.

I see you are talking about pvp, what Revenant has to say? He has litteraly no condi cleanse(if hes not going condi himself), and no stability at all, except 1 skill(if he goes dwarven), everything is in shield and evades, and you cry necro has it bad?
Necromancer has 2 evades, chills, 2freezes, 2-shot possibility if he goes full power with his shroud and litteraly two health bars while everyone else has 1.
Guard has blocks, but blocks, block 1 attack, just like blind, blinds 1 attack, onyly real difference between those is duration.So dont cry about necros while at same time there is such sad pvp profession as revenant who can get litteraly fukd by every other class. ONYLY EXCAPTION IS when, player who plays revenant is trying to nolife it, and evades almost every hard cc made in game.
i’m not saying i agree 100% with the OP but, revenant is barely a year old necromancer is a month past its fourth birthday. and if you run mallyx, conditions are never a problem ever. in fact, rev and necro share some of the same problems; mobility being one of them, but they also have a fair number of blocks that mitigate that as a problem. I would trade necro staff for rev staff in a fraction of a second.
Scrapper have us a second 2H option in Hammer, and we have OH Pistol and Shield. We’re missing a 1H melee, power based option. Mace is the obvious choice for that (especially with the wrench skin), but Axe and Dagger could also fit in.
Torch would be a decent option thematically, but we aren’t lacking in burning, and it would still leave is with just Pistol.
we’re also missing a ranged power option. something that won’t give me carpel tunnel would be marvelous.
i think a legendary earned exclusively in wvw is long overdue. i can’t be the only person that abhors this game’s pve.
hello rangers, i’ve been having a bit of fun with a staff/greatsword set up in wvw lately, and i’m noticing that i never regain opening strike in fights, even when i’m getting fury (from any source)
has anyone else had this issue?
i like the whole life leeching idea, but i’m hoping that they beef up necromancer’s before even consider giving it to mesmer.

haventnt done SW in a long time but as far as I can remember, the mobs there dont drop much items directly. As far as crafting mats are concerned, mordrem only drop t5 or t6 fangs and venom sacs and your mf should raise your chance of getting a t6 mat. I dont think the mobs in SW drop gear directly as most of it comes from the loot and event boxes.
Event mobs don’t drop anything at all; as you said, most of the loot comes from event rewards and looting chests, neither of which are affected by MF.
The only drops in silverwastes that are affected by MF are the random trash mobs you encounter between fortresses (hyenas and devourers thst everyone runs past), plus those champions that everyone kills after VW. Magic find really has very little effect on silverwastes loot.

Yes, i can imagine a world in which group pvp content becomes more than a spam fest. where things have the ability to do things that they look like they should be able to do.
since the …logic..you presented is probably exactly what arenanet is thinking i withdraw my suggestion. because odin on high forbid that eles have to properly time their meteor showers instead of blindly dropping them. whatever logic (or obvious lack thereof) is the reasoning behind why the top half of the dome is irrelevant, i’ll just recommend a full shield rework.

so, guardian’s shield, functionally speaking has been a four year old joke, and for good reason.
my main gripe being that it can’t absorb projectiles from above. Why is it a dome if it can’t absorb things from the sky? why can barrage, hunters ward, meteor shower, dragon’s tooth(technically projectiles), anything that drops something onto the dome, not get blocked?
what is anet’s reasoning behind this?

We need a fast paced, direct dmg, melee spec with a MH weapon to go with shield and OH pistol.
I’d say Sword for a mobile melee spec. Sword seems to be the go-to for mobility fast strikes and evasion.
A vibrating sword that removes boons or a energy/plasma sword could be a good engi version of it. With utilities that are like cyborg adaptations working like signets (a passive bonus with an overcharge skill)Energy/plasma swords would be a nice mobile onehanded weapon for a elite spec. I am curious what kind of utility skill they may use though.
Elite Spec Utility also follows the Elite Spec Weapon theme in some way after all.
Another thought on Greatsword I have would be a Mechanical Sword type design. Would fit into a Signet theme Elite Spec involving Modifications for enhancing the Engineer’s physical abilities.
So no one else can think up ways to Engineerfy Weapons?
i’ve thought it would be pretty cool if engineer used a greatsword like mesmer did, only it fired rockets or something, and came with some sort of rocket fueled leap.

i think if this were to happen it would have to predate both the games, as in the time of the guild wars. only way i could see it making sense.
i think if they did main hand pistol right (IE without passive damage), gave it some sort of unload ability, it could be a pretty solid dps spec.

i don’t think we’ll see the largos (on a city wide scale) until the undersea dragon decides to wake up, or if he/she/it/attackhelicopter is already awakened and the largos get pushed away from their homes just as zhaitan pushed out the quaggan.

Absolutely. Necromancer has too many negative thematics the most harmful one is being the “slow” class
- Slow animations / cast times / telegraphed as hell
- Slow movement / lack of dashing and teleportsThen comes the whole we cant block or do anything as an active defense. No blocks no invuln no evades no stealth ect.
For some reason we can’t heal in DS. We’re aslo the weakest when it comes to siphoning for some fkkitten reason.
We are the only class that relies on allies to function.

yes. your list is why i keep leaving the class, yet the difficulty is why i keep coming back. problem being, there will never be an inbetween.
it’s been my opinion on nearly everything that functionality should always come First before any sort of theme is planned, with every game i’ve played.
this seems to be in the reverse from a design perspective in this game. I wonder how structurally sound bridges would be if they were designed to be pretty first instead of stable.

mesmer should just borrow from spellslinger from wildstar, it has great skills and the games already borrow from each other. mainhand pistol on mesmer done properly could give some serious wow factor.
would be nice to have a more reliable ranged condi weapon too. something where i don’t have to be a keyboard gymnast.

the problem with turrets is that they are outclassed by nearly every other skill in the engineer’s kitten nal, especially when you have a hammer equipped.

Agreed. Ranger main hand could use some more options. This is just what I came up with first but if I can think of a good main hand skillset then I’ll post that too. Or maybe someone else will first!
