Phalanx str Reaper?

the reason you bring a PS warrior over a power reaper is that warrior’s dps is much higher.

not by a long shot.

you bring a PS warrior over Power reaper because banners and EA,

in a raid setting, you want 2 PSEA warrior for each subgroup to make sure all have banners, Empowered allies and the might stacks, Once you have those covered. Reaper is a solid DpS choice, and far better option than a third power warrior. And with the recent changes to Scorched Earth, Its a non issue on the condie front you can bring Either Condie Warrior or Condie reaper.

‘not by a long shot’
the only case this might be true is if the boss is under 50% health. ONLY then does it justify the dps drop when it comes to taking a power reaper. 45k 100b every 6.5 seconds or a 15k GD every 8.

i think this should play like thief’s mainhand pistol (obvious tweaks) without an offhand) and be all about bursting. the burst skill could be an unload of sorts.

there was no Wexp/ranks
there was no wall in garrison that prevented you from trebbing bay.
there was no limit of the number of people that could use a port.
ET and HoD were in t1.
no EoTM.
no arena in OS.
no ascended armor.

i think you read that as
“please put everything involved with wvw back to day one statistics” instead of “please revert the wvw system in place currently back to one that works”

We’ve had Belinda’s Greatsword in game a while now, as well as Usoku’s Needle. Would love to see a Yari/Naginata staff, a Yumi long bow, a Kanabo hammer, a Kama axe. There are several other items that could be implemented.

To go with the weapons we’ve also had the Shadow Assassin outfit but nothing else. I for one would love to see some actual Samurai themed armor, heck even a kimono/hakama outfit would be great!

i’d like some classes to fit them first.

and now we have to wait for 40 dolyaks to arrive at a tower, and the supply sitting there does nothing.

What would a greataxe offer mechanically that can’t also be done with a greatsword or maybe hammer? I think some greatsword skins should be greataxes. Since we had three legendary greatswords in the base game maybe one of the HoT legendary greatswords can be a T-Rex themed greataxe with the other greatsword skin being a guitar with rifts as you swing and have pyrotechnic footsteps?

Greataxes as skins for hammers or greatswords would be good enough while introducing a whole other weaponset would create even more balancing issues.

a spectral greataxe on a necromancer sir. think a bit on that.

was something wrong with how supply worked?

in WvW

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

Not really. It isolates supply within structures from supply being used to upgrade. It also takes the upgrade process out of the hands of players, both for better or for worse.

On the one hand, it stops people from using alts to build troll siege in a keep to waste supply to prevent an upgrade.

On the other hand, it does take away a level of depth and strategy that comes with said resource management.

It probably wouldn’t be as big of an issue if F2P accounts and the absurdities that are guild upgrades weren’t in the mix.

that ‘issue’ has been present since launch, as there’s nothing you can do about people pressing f. as far as it stands, WVW has gone through three upgrade models in the last year, none of them working nearly as well as the original. as i stated, anet needs to stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

Tuesday's WVW Update

in WvW

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

a lot of the times it sounds like players just want an open space to have large scale fights in? Am I incorrect in this?

Not really.
Some of us would be able to enjoy that, but a lot of people would get bored with it quickly. WvW needs to be centered around fights, but there also needs to be something to fight over. The structures work fine for this purpose as long as there’s some incentive to keep them.
The problem is, no one has cared about “winning” a matchup for years. What drove defense in the old borderland was not PPT, but ego and a sense of possession. Your borderland was designed to be owned by you, and the reward for defending and taking structures was entirely psychological.

The new borderland splits your 3rd between three maps thanks to the waypoint system. Literally no effort goes into upgrading keeps, so there’s no sense of loss when they’re flipped. Upgrading them also doesn’t give any real advantage anymore (again thanks to the waypoint system). Towers are entirely useless because they no longer serve a strategic benefit like the ones in Alpine did.

While I do think the design of the desert map is atrocious – it’s too complex, there are too many chokes and narrow corridors, travel time is too long, too hard to find other groups – I also think it would have been much better received had it launched with the old upgrade system and the same layout of structures as Alpine (keeps treb-able from towers).

That said, it’s way too late now. The desert borderlands require more people than Alpine to man effectively (not as suitable for map hopping due to the long travel times), and with the dwindling population it’s not realistic to get that many people on anymore.

dragonbrand seems to care deeply about winning matchups.

Increase rewards for WvW

in WvW

Lightsbane.9012

Be careful what you wish for.

I remember being in T1 at the start of season 1 and the borderlands were absolutely packed for about a week. The queues were ridiculous. I know that sounds like a nice problem to have considering the current state of wvw. Only problem is everyone who just ventured into wvw for the first time to get their achievements or whatever had ABSOLUTELY no idea what they were doing or how to fight. I’ve never killed so many, so easily, since gw2 launched. That gets old, real fast.

that’s how it is right now in tier 3, difference being that the server winning isn’t very good at fighting. right now, if someone could watch a machinima like playback of each week of matchups in tier 3, it would seem to be the most toxic thing you’ve ever seen.

nine. months. by then, WvW will spiral down even further to where the meta is devolved so much that not a single effort needs to be organized—-because of banners, air strikes, etc. while the reason for the implementation of these clearly broken and overpowered things is just, their use is only seen by guilds that can afford them. these guilds tend to be the most populous and as a result…don’t really need the banners in the first place. all it adds is yet another obstacle to overcome before you can fight back the horde.

imagine if King Theoden had to deal with Uruks plus a dragon banner. That wouldn’t have made for good cinema, now would it?

Dulfy note: ...working on the next expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lightsbane.9012

Read between the lines, I think it means they can’t afford to give us what we think of as LS anymore; we will probably see expansions bigger than a whole LS, smaller than a whole HoT. I think their expansions might also (IMO should also) target very specific aspects of the game; PVE, PVP, WvW.

if future expansions are focused simply on the game modes, i would simply add more weapons (as in create entirely new ones, or LANDSPEARS) or expand upon modes that are already in place, maybe one more additional class. most of the dragon’s lairs can be in existing areas, such as the Brand.

Please add better rewards to wvw so people are willing to try it out. As it is right now, the rewards are crap in comparison to pve or pvp. There is no reason to wvw if you are a person trying to get rewarded for your time spent in game.

I remember an Anet Dev saying that WvW is actually more rewarding than we think.. I’d like to know what he meant.

that is a wonderful point. i can’t see WvW being more financially rewarding to the player unless their server is ktraining all day every day, even so, EoTM isn’t That rewarding.

i can not play thief

in Thief

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

as the title states, i simply can’t play it. after finishing the daredevil traitline (farmed exclusively in wvw mind you so it took a while), it appeared to me that anet wanted to create a rogue-brawler, something that would not work given core thief’s mechanics. but i played it anyway, and had a blast. vaulting around like an idiot, even winning a couple 1v1’s here and there. bandit’s defense even saved me a couple times, (though it got me killed more than that) but something was missing. that thing was sustain.
playing revenant after finishing daredevil showed me a class that had both sustain and low cooldown skills that did immense damage. revenant has damage mitigation, a respectable health pool, and you can stack some toughness without sacrificing much damage, if any at all. if one were to do this on thief, as i noticed, damage output suffers greatly.
i suppose the point of the rant is to ask how thief main players deal with this and what they would think about a rework.

Just because you don’t think no one starts legendary crafting thinking it’s a long term goal doesn’t mean Anet didn’t intended to be one. If you can’t recognize that legendary crafting it’s DESIGNED to be a long term goal, you’re just being obtuse.

So in your opinion, it is completely normal that, let’s say, Tooth of Frostfang costs 459g on the trading post, and over 1200g to craft ? Or Storm, less than 400g to buy on the trading post, and just the first tier being more expansive ? Or maybe the Colossus, 748g vs an easy 1500g, to take a two handed weapon ?

It’s not about what players think is normal. To me, it’s pretty obvious what someone does in these cases. The prices will normalize over time. Frankly, if people crafting are WILLING to do so instead of buying legendaries outright at this time, then it’s really not a problem. In fact, people crafting one actually benefits someone that wants to get a legendary.

as i said, staunch defenders of a bad system are the problem. this whole ‘long term goal’ argument not only goes against logic, but human nature. say someone has the means to create a legendary the normal way, and the ‘crafting’ way. does human nature say they will take the slow option?
does logic?

Take people doing trips. Some people take the highways. Some people take. The scenic route. The highway is most times the quickest and cheapest option. But the people.who take. The scenic route are either not in a hurry and want the slower pace or care more about the journey than reaching their destination.

Those methods aren’t wrong or right in their own right. Whether they are wrong or right depends on the person and their personal preferences and situation.

Precursor buying or crafting is the same. It may be the wrong choice for you, but for me it is the right choice. And neither of us is wrong.

a fine argument, indeed. but you must accept the fact that a scenic route requires more gasoline, or in this case gold. one must also accept the fact that resources are not unlimited in either case. some have less time to devote to such a task. i think it’s unfair to those who cannot devote time to such a long journey.

i think it’s time we accept that not everything put into practice works the way it’s meant to when it’s on the drawing board. but if this is working as intended, maybe it’s time the concept is revisited.

Seriously, if you enjoy WvW, it shouldn’t feel like a grind.

Then let’s remove tomes and craft leveling and make it all heroic

I think that they should make them, Soul-bound like they did to Proofs, that way PvE players would be on the same field as WvW players, but then, we need to be able to use those tomes as a currency, because I know people that have stacks of them…

isn’t it just amazing how they pidgin hole wvw players but give pvers everything? it’s great right?

not to mention that i don’t think anyone starts the journey of building a legendary with it being a long term goal over many months.

The system at launch was that you need a) Yaks to put supply in b) Supply not being drained out by players c) Someone running there and paying money to start the upgrade, d) workers being alive. That is 4 factors.

The coming system does not require supply, workers, or a player starting an upgrade.

This image is incredible. If it is Cantha it is a very contemporary city with technology beyond and architecture that much closer to modern day human civilization than anything we’ve seen in game… We already have a race that’s very advanced and guns are already a weapon type. Could we see more modern weapons added?!? Kind of mind blowing to imagine a elder dragon flying over a very modern interpretation of Cantha.

Thoughts?

longbow damage seems a bit low

Lightsbane.9012

Generally speaking in MMO’s, ranged attacks and DPS are lower than melee; there is less risk associated with camping range. I don’t find that GW2 strays from that too much either. Even the way you can trait LBow encourages sticking to your ranged zone.

If you compare apples to apples, Lbow has a good place between Staff (the ideal zerg spamming weapon, though completely crap for single target) and Scepter, that CAN do good (or best?) ranged damage under the right scenarios. I don’t have numbers but then again, most theorycrafters won’t either.

Bottom line is that our range options do give us choices ideal for different situations. I think because LBow can do a little of both the single target and AOE stuff, people prefer it.

generally speaking, ranged damage is not lower than melee. i don’t know what games you’ve been playing.

Crossbows are unlikely because they are rendered obsolete by pistols and rifles.
However, Polearms were one of the last old world weapons to completely leave usage. I think they deserve some love in this game.

longbows were not rendered obsolete by pistols and rifles.

That is correct. At least until rifling and cartridge ammunition is developed.

I’d dearly love to see spears on land, 1h for guardian and 2h for Ranger.

i was talking purely in the realm of Tyria. Let’s keep it to just ‘spears’ at this point, it’s most likely that existing spear models will come to land rather than multiple versions.

I thought you said GW2 would be "No Grinding"

You just don’t want to wait.

Key thing here.

HoT isn’t a game full of grind. It’s a game full of long term goals.

But people want things now, so they try to get those long term goals as if they were short term goals. This results in the sensation that the game is ‘full of grind’.

‘full of long term goals’
first i want you to create a revenant and bring it into wvw. a few hours of playing core revenant in wvw and you will see just how necessary herald is to be competitive there. so you decide to get some hero points, but find you cannot access 80% of them without some sort of mastery training. now add to the fact you do not enjoy pve, so everything feels like it takes much longer than it really is, because you are forced into a game mode that you hate to do something quicker.
when people say the grind isn’t necessary, they clearly have not attempted anything competitive in this game before. some of the classes need their elite specs to be competitive. when people say things like ‘the grind is optional’, i just think they aren’t fully aware of how game changing these elite specs are, and how game breaking they can be if you and your guild mates don’t have them when you’re trying to be competitive.
news flash, the entire game is optional. thanks for being redundant.
