Has anyone tried WvW and roaming? Saw some guy bragging about how fun it was on the mesmer forums and was wondering what you guys thought.
had a great time with it reset night. it can frontline really well if you know the rotations.
I am probably one of EU top roamers. I roam in EotM between towers and pour hot oil over upscaled noobs. I have 9 wins and 0 loses in 1 vs 1 fights. Usually i don’t fight back if some lamer try to kill me so i don’t really lose.

I don’t know if this is “intended”, but you can get 6 charges for each beta character by going to each of the cities (city completion reward is given the moment you first enter).
Plus the 3 you can get from orr by doing all the skill points.
I think the OP wants a container full of charges rather than having to work for a handful (and there’s nothing wrong with this request). The cities for example, if it only takes you 10 minutes to do one then that’s a full hour to get 6 charges. Since he wants to try out different gear and keep the look with each trial then he neither of these suggestions work.
it took me thirty seconds to do all of them. i clicked into each city once.
is it really so hard to grasp?
Hey bud, no need for the passive aggressive tone. I dont know what aspect of the greatsword auto attack is burst, its just slow. When the AA actually hits a target tyhe numbers are the same or smaller than my dagger which is unacceptable for the time it takes to swing.. DPS literally means “damage per second”. Even slow weapons have a calculable “damage per second”. If the DPS of the greatsword is lower than the dagger in every way then why would you use it in PvE? Dagger already has the best single target, the best 2 target cleave, the best defense (life siphon and root) and the best LF regeneration. What is left for the greatsword? Some niche position where if there’s 4+ mobs it starts to pull ahead a bit? That’s absolutely not good enough for me. Dagger auto attack is sooo boring that I cannot continue playing with such a simple rotation. I really need the greatsword to be a general power dps weapon or dagger to be completely revamped. I dont think its so much to ask to get something similar to what Guardian and Warrior already have, a greatsword with decent single target and great cleave/AoE.
the concept of the greatsword is burst, not specifically the auto attack chain. I suppose the concept of the auto attack is to inflict chill, which i think i can definitely do without to be honest.
I would LOVE another Legend; I agree that two seems a bit off. A Charr themed one would be great… but, currently, the available Legends are men. I actually really like your suggestions for abilities, and if there’s a woman who would be appropriate for a Legend, that would be even more awesome. I’m trying to figure out how Kalla Scorchrazor might fit here. It might need to be a different flavor of abilities, but I’ve always adored her story, and I would love to see her as one of the Legends.
I think channeling kormir would be cool, though i’m not sure how it’d work.
Firstly, mmo players across all games make the mistake of missing the other type of damage: damage per Hit and reaper GS fits this very much so. There is a class similar to this in TERA, dubbed slayer(or berzerker), which hits very slow but very hard. this is the theme of reaper’s greatsword. it does not have high dps, it has high dpH
And i’m having a lot of success with it in WvW frontlining.Well, idk if you’re talking about PvP or PvE (either way it shouldn’t matter) but the Reaper GS has both low attack speed and low damage per hit. According to every bit of hard math I’ve seen, the GS is outclassed in dps by dagger MH in every way. Even spamming GD below 50% hp is less dps than simply clicking 1 on dagger MH. Please prove me wrong, I’d welcome it, but all the math and my own personal feeling when playing reaper screams that GS is not up to snuff atm.
of course it is outclassed by dagger in dps. dagger attacks faster. as it stands now, my gs auto hits pretty much as hard as my dagger auto, in that sense, yes GS auto attack does need to hit harder.
even if it does hit harder by the time release rolls around, dagger would still outclass greatsword in terms of dps.I mean, you have to explain why dagger should do more dps than the greatsword. Maybe in a 1 target situation the dagger could pull ahead a bit but I’m sorry, the dagger does not feel like a dps weapon. I literally click one and sit back and I only do that because its the best we got atm. We dont have a true power dps weapon. The dagger skills are all geared towards siphoning and control, not damage. I want a power dps weapon that can keep me having fun for months coming up with cool rotations and combos. This is where the greatsword needs to shine.
greatswords attack slowly. daggers do not. therefore the dps of daggers is higher. is it really so hard to grasp? do your daggers hit like a caterpillar?
yes the greatsword needs to hit harder, but it is not a dps weapon. it is burst.
yeah i don’t see a lot of eles running warhorn, simply because it doesn’t really bring anything to the table other than boon sharing. Oh, and a huge firefield. Ele didn’t have enough of those right?
I think it’s because warhorn locks you into dagger or scepter. A lot of eles wanted a new mainhand, not a new offhand. Warhorn will always be limited because it locks you into the existing mainhand weapons.
the fire overload with sword would’ve been really powerful.

I’m pretty sure i recall someone saying that at some point at one of the gaming festivals. (pax south i think?)
I thought that class icons were supposed to change when the core classes were using the elite spec line?

Big hits don’t make up for the horrid DPS though. Big hits big tells long cast times, the advantage is if you land one it’s “devastating” but honestly it’s not high enough damage to be that, yet it has all the negatives of being unlikely to even land a hit.
well when you realize it’s not a dps weapon, but a dpH(it) weapon you get a little less angry about it.
If it isn’t what is it trying to accomplish,? I mean if you cant hit anything with a brain then what is it? We have a great utility weapon already, so what is the gs trying to accomplish?
to be slow and deal high damage. it does sort of pull that off, could it do more damage? Yeah. Do i think it should be an automatic 10k on every gravedigger? no.
also, the way the shout trait works, i dig it. landed a ‘chilled to the bone’ on five people in wvw, cooldown was instantly down to half.

i love the reaper.
agreed with what you say about it though.its close. but not perfect. really need to cut down on the interrupts…..
and maybe make the chill effect last longer (as the dmg is inferior to d/d)
it is inferior, per second, but not per hit. There are some really big hits that could happen with the greatsword. Dagger is more of a sustained dps weapon(assuming your target moves at the speed of a snail), where greatsword seems to be very bursty(think Slayer from tera, it plays a lot like it) and very dangerous if you don’t see it coming.
I tested reaper out in WvW tonight(reset night, where it’s particularly hard to play a melee necro), and it did very well. I did not die once, surprisingly(i got focused a couple times, deathly charge Saved my life), and i was always frontlining. RS#3 sort of acts how spectral armor should outside of shroud, however it does not continually apply stability(as i thought it was advertised to do so) while outside of RS. If you apply the stability, you get it for the duration, but it does not recast. It does while in shroud. RS#4 with the poison is VERY VERY strong, and may the gods be with any glass builds that are within its reach.
At least it’s not dhuumfire all over again. Which means the six should hear our prayers for buffs, right ?
dhuum…icecube?
my old build, which i treasured very much for frontlining, feels a lot stronger now. I like the greatsword a lot, and reaper shroud(THANK YOU FOR THE LEAP)
but i do have a couple gripes:
shouts; huge cast time, but the effects(especially suffer) are awesome(except for a few, i can’t imagine where i’d want to take off Suffer in wvw.), especially for frontlining in a WvW scenario.
greatsword: quite slow, and i can see myself being interrupted by every thief smart enough to run offhand pistol, on almost all of my skills. The pull(namely the poison), i’ve often missed with on stationary or slow moving targets. Perhaps change this to a leap(or just straight up rob warrior’s ‘rush’), with the same distance with the same cooldown? Also, why is poison on it? That does nothing for the implied functionality. Change to cripple? I am mostly okay with how gravedigger turned out, as i thought i would be rooted while casting it. The problem is that it’s going to be very easy to dodge. Perhaps it should also hit harder on foes with less than 50% hp as well?
As for reaper shroud, I like it. When i watched the related live stream, the people who were playing reaper did not move while casting executioner’s scythe, which made me feel like i would be rooted as well. I’m very thankful that it’s the opposite. For shroud#3, I was under the impression that the stability provided would last a lot longer, instead of just three seconds.
a great way to put some of these fears to rest(lolnecropuns) is to modify the trait that speeds up reaper shroud auto attack to also speed up greatsword auto attack.
The real problem:
Dagger: melee power damage
Greatsword: melee power damage
Reaper Shroud: melee power damageSomething’s got to give. None of the weapons has much other than power damage to offer. Ranged or anti kiting will have to be done by staff, and if staff isn’t good enough, perhaps both dagger and greatsword have to go.
dagger cooldowns are also way too huge for what they do. (MH)
@sebradle
Yes but the non-execute dagger executes better than GS since the damage of GS (even gravedigger) is lower than dagger (not by much).I think the GS is meant as a more than 2 enemies weapon. It has scalable LF generation, many 5-enemies skills etc… And chill IS punishing.
I still feel that gravedigger should at least out-DPS dagger AA since it is only spammable for execute (and not even fully spammable any longer it seems)
Can you show me the math that dagger out damages gravedigger spam?
~5k damage assuming everything crits( on my build, i don’t run a -ton- of crit damage) in under 4 seconds.
on a full glass setup, that damage can go up to ~12k. test it yourself.
Stumbled across this on the yewtoobs.
signet of the ether a necessity.
you’re funny.
guess i’m one of the exceptions that doesn’t find this all that annoying. they kind of released this ‘feature’ with the specializations patch. you have a wvw build, a pve build, and a pvp build.
I hope the next reveal gets a mainhand weapon. i was holding out for tempest, but warhorn doesn’t really bring much to the table that ele doesn’t have already.
So… When’s the next one? After Hot beta? I get that I’m beating a dead horse here but I confident that I’m not the only one fed up with the wait. Engineer, Ranger, Warrior and Thief. Huh… Almost all of em are non magic wielders.
COLINS ROUGHNECKS, HOOAH.
i’m reading through your hybrid with death perception, and i can’t seem to agree with 80% of the traits you’ve taken. unless this is for pve purposes, otherwise FITG is an absolutely must in wvw/pvp. as most of your damage will probably be done with the scepter, i find soul marks to be a poor choice as well. reducing the cooldown of deathshroud makes it so rending shroud is even more on demand(and thus have a point) Signets of suffering i can’t really understand either to be honest, or spectral grasp as you are almost always at range anyway. in full honesty i’m not seeing a point of the spite line in this set up at all. unless you went spiteful renewal, chill of death, and close to death. all three of these serve your build that much better.
if i was going to run curses in any sort of condition build at all, i would definitely take parasitic contagion.
you also run no toughness at all.
now that i’ve seen the full set up of it, why is it called hybrid at all? because you have 1900 power? you may as well just go full condi. The key here is theory and practice. You cannot justify my reasoning because you haven’t actually seen it in action.
When you spectral grasp a target (apart from it being a great interrupt) it gives you life force, and you’re applying chill to them which in turn applies vuln(bitter chill). They are also now right next to you which sets up Weakening Shroud, Rending Shroud, Tainted shackles and the 2.5s fear you can get when the target is withing 600 range. It also puts them within Locust Swarm range which gives you life force if you activated it before the pull. And with that you’ve just applied 6-7 conditions to your target not including the immob at the end of Tainted Shackles.
As for Signet of Suffering, it reduces the cooldown of your passive and active Plague Signet (this is useful, trust me). It also allows you to convert boons using the signets. So if you’re stunned and the target just so happens to have stab as their top most boon, you just just Plague Signet and instantly chain stun them from there.
Spite also gives you might when the target is below 50% and you apply more vuln to the target when they are below 33%. This increases your damage.
Death Perception works well with Carrion. It’s a condi build but the amount of damage you can do to a squishy with a life blast, makes it more of a hybrid than you might currently realize, which is why I call it the Hybrid.
see, i ran plague signet when it was 48s traited. this 30 second cd that it is now is fine for my mostly melee build. i’m just listing what i would do differently. but despite how effective you are/think you are with that build, that <1900 armor will come back and bite you, all it takes is an unseen killshot warrior, and 12k+ of that 28k hp is effectively gone. i know the basics of necromancer so including all of that information was sort of pointless, either way, you seem to have your bases covered from your reply, except one really big one: direct damage. (something parasitic contagion would help with.) what are you going to do when condis aren’t enough to drop someone?
i’ll probably build my reaper the same as my core necro, save for replacing whatever i have on the 8 skill with ‘suffer!’ or whatever the condi transfer shout is called. you are going to want that.

Might be possible to get staff AND ranged. The staff might have a spell-like use, shooting bolts of shadow, kind of a shadowy spell thief. If that’s the case, then it remains to be seen if the staff elite is power or condi.
how would that fit a theif….
thats more a necromancer…
no medium armor class uses magic =/
heck even the Druid is pushing it
lorewise, thieves use shadowmagic. rangers also use nature magic. otherwise druid makes no sense.
t2 queue @ YB “2weeks now” this server is going to full kitten!
use more arrow carts.
dragonhunter(excluding the name) is actually close to the top of my list as far as effectiveness of the new specs goes. The bow skills seem to do solid damage, the traps do great damage, the skills appear to synergize.
As of 5 months ago, the vast majority of GoM’s wvw community transferred to T2 Yaks Bend/FA or to t3. Obviously, this could now be outdated information and the situation could have changed. However, GoM wvw was completely dead with maybe 3-4 wvw guilds remaining after RISE/DUI/ASH/Exa as well as a few others, left.
Just wanted to post the info that I know. You may still want to ask around and see if their community website is still active. ~ Tinks – {YB} Monsters Inc [BOO]
former RISE here, it’s a shame to hear that GOM’s in such a state. I find myself looking at how they’re doing every time i check mos.

It’s the one that has the most variability in tasks that you can do.
yet ignores players who loathe that game mode.
So what would they do? Kill 10000 players in sPvP and get a legendary?
it would take equally long.

necro needed more access to stability, what it got instead was a traitline that made them into a warrior without the added benefits.
last I checked U2 were not trapped by Apple or anyone else.
however U2 is trapped on my phone and will not go away!
They should add a monthly fee to people using WvW on high population servers since they have a third viable game mode that low tier servers dont have. Problem solved.
that sounds more like an argument from an emotional response rather than a logical one.
i’ve taken 7k heartseekers at 2900 armor. the power to toughness ratio is a bit skewed.
ranger is getting staff…so no thief wont be getting it.
Both Elementalist and Necromancer got Shouts. Exclusivity isn’t an argument. I’ve actually never read or heard anything from Arenanet saying that 2 Elite Specialisations can’t get the same weapon.
true but Anet is too original for this. imagine giving 2 professions the same weapon for elite spec. this is too beneath anet’s originality.
so no they wont give same weapon to 2 different classes for their elite spec.
not their style.also can you imagine, a focus offhand for thief.
immubing the power of dark magic, a thief transcends to become a Assassin Mage.focus 4 = dark tethers grow on the ground, chill + immobilize on hit up to 5 opponents in a 380 radius
focus 5 = dark magic circle forms on the ground in a 240 radius, locking in all opponents without stability, if opponent breaks out with stability, instantly strip all stability stacks and inflict blind.
very unsure of the seriousness of your reply but yeah, they already gave shouts to both reaper and tempest. what’s to prevent giving the same weapon to another elite spec?
And once again: Elite Specs are not the only thing coming with the expansion.
Name that stuff please.
I think what is left to show is:
- Elite Specs (5 remaining).
- Legendary weapons and precursors.
- Hard Content.
- The Map.Am i missing something?
if there’s a place you wanna get, i can get you there i bet i’m the map
the grandmaster trait to attack faster in reaper shroud should probably also effect the greatsword. or really the only thing you have to do to dodge reaper’s GS attacks is to move backwards.
@Tristan
Can’t I love both mesmer and necro?
Death Perception will affect reaper’s shroud. All “old” shroud traits still apply to reaper. But without stability, the only corpse will be yours I’m afraid. Already currently, WvW partly evolved to the “pirate boat” meta because of the change to stability. For the necro, no point. The good news is that necro already have a place in the zerg meta, but I would have loved (and will probably try and die a few times) to be more frontline.
I sense a bug coming. A lovely, tear jerking bug.

a gradual rebuilding of Orr should happen, yes. Starting with the straits of devastation.
2, because of the overloads.
d/d tempest will probably be stronger than d/wh tempest.
WASH IT REAL GOOD
has anyone been able to find the related Point of Interest episode?
as a power spec, i’ve come to enjoy both. LB probably works better on stationary targets(or fired into an enemy zerg in wvw), as the arcing arrow is very slow -but- hits hard when it crits (halved an ele’s hp with it last night), but rifle can certainly one shot things that aren’t paying attention.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
Where a wvw player runs into a fight, an EOTM player runs away from it due to loss of karma.
That’s a huge generalisation.
A lot of WvW players only karma train, some others are only interested in the objectives and strategy and so on.
Not everyone is there, primarily, to PVP, by any means.
About the only place you can assume people are there to PVP, is in PVP itself and even then, they may well just be win trading.
Though it was fun 5v1ing and downing a couple enemies in the fight because 4 of the enemies had no idea how their class played outside of pve.
Sure they weren’t uplevels?
I’m doing EOTM ATM, as it seems to award more, financially speaking and I feel like a bully, half the time.
Even though I’m only running with the zerg and helping out in fights, when we run into one.
Unlike some people, who are chasing the tail on their 80 Mesmers (formerly thieves, naturally) and intentionally ganking all the uplevels and then stealthing away. :/
welp, said uplevels should realize that WvW is normally a totally different ballgame. I’m a wvw player, I don’t care what i’m up against if i think i can beat it i’m going to try. At least two of the enemies i ran into in that 5v1 were up levels, yes, but even the level 80’s had no clue what to do in a player vs player scenario. Sure the whole ktrain thing is a generalization, but ask people to fight the enemy zerg in map chat yourself and let me know if you find different results.
