As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Maybe… all of these years of neglect and nerfs are all part of something bigger? What if Anet plans to continuously worse as time goes until both professions are undesirable to the point no one plays them anymore so they have a reason to delete them and not worry about managing them in the future! :O
You don’t play WvW or sPvP do you. They are every where in those game modes. I should know. I play one.
necromancers are incredibly easy to lock down in both game modes. I should know. I play one.
if you solo yes
necros are ment to be with the zerg, providing a ton of AoEs, life steals, and crowd controls
specially on edge of the mists where those AoEs lock down paths very fast. with 3 necros you can stop an entire zerg (or at least send alot of them feared off the side falling to their doom)
the life steal has been epic as well(blood trait line) as i’m only lv 35 on my necro, and i’m playing in lv 45+ areas (not wise….but its pretty fun and challenging)
the only part of necros that fails atm(other than the nerf to the well….which i’m a bit sad about)
is the low durability of minions.idk about spvp. but in WvW, a Necro’s vamperic aura, wells and marks, greatly benefits any zerg. (plus that fear wall. )
so much so you become public enemy number 1 of the enemy zerg
I run daggers on my necro, which will translate to greatsword in the alternate universe that HOT decides to appear in, so i run a frontline power build. any class with a lot of interrupts (warrior, thief, mesmer) that exploits them properly can easily lock down a necromancer even if i’m fighting 1v1.

That is one of the worst conspiracy theories concerning gaming I’ve heard.
necro in pve+necro in wvw=the answer when you divide by zero.
I liked my GW1 Ranger, everything about it, the barrage, the armour…..
‘armor’
gw2 is fantasy but doesnt feel that fantasy maybe because other games have set a higher expectations
Or y’know maybe because it’s different to other fantasy games?
Does this mean that Tera isn’t a fantasy game anymore with the introduction of the Gunner class?
Different =/= inferior/superior.
that game with it’s huge weapons and barely clothed women is probably more about inferiority complexes.
scepter/sword. now that the main ‘burst’ skill also ‘pierces’, my favored dueling set has become my weapons of choice. Probably will change this once chronomancer hits and will replace sword with shield.
For me it’s about being good at the class no matter how anet decides to tie me down when i play it. no reliable cc avoidance? Bring it, i’ll find a way around. No blocks or evade skills? Bring it, i’ll fight the world anyway. Necromancer’s tainted shackles are quite ironically named though, we are slow enough to the point where we may as well be wearing shackles. But still, i don’t care. My reaper will be a god if i have to supplant Grenth himself.
(Yes, i said reaper, because my necro is more or less shelved until heart of thorns.)

Really? So you’re saying Engineers are worthless without an objectively bugged trait that is clearly ruining some aspects of the game? This very thread is an insult to competent Engineer players.
I still don’t know what was bugged about it, the dev post never clarified. Are they referring to how overpowered Grenade barrage was? How did grenadier cause that?
Engineer is my favorite class, it always has been, and grenades have always been the backbone of our DPS and the recent major change to traits only made it more so. And the “grenadier” trait was the most important of those traits. Go hit stuff with grenades now, our DPS is much lower.
Guess I’ll have to play Thief until they give back out main trait, which will be sometime after HoT comes out probably.
Lol. You’re funny. Bye now.
Outfits being available as armor skins is something we’ve asked for over and over. Instead of making yet another thread about it, how about reviving some dead ones and adding your voice there?
because thread necros would make my favored profession even more redundant?
the shoulder portion of the outfit would be awesome to see as a skin for armor, I think. Especially if someone is going for a Roman look (would be an -awesome- fit with the vigil sets)
While i don’t particularly like the rest of the outfit, I would buy a corresponding armor skin of the shoulder portion in an instant.
So…Please?
So, 2 things resume what I am not okay with :
Each of the articles talk in a different way, about the same topic, and both bring up the question: Are you okay with this? Are you okay with the game being more and more “Easy” and less challenging (aka – Auto Attack still makes you beat content easily).
I decided to show my personnal awser here, at anet own forum, so maaaybe, it gets considered as feedback : NO, I am not okay with that.
I really want to roll a new PC when HoT arrive to play trough all the PS again, and face HoT into a different perspective, but after watching how poor the PS and content are in the game actually, I am inclined to agree with what those articles talks about, gw2 is actually way too easy, and becmoing even boring.
PS: Don’t get me wrong, I am a vicied fan of gw2, that experienced the whole gw1 campaigns and played over 5k hours just because I love it. So, i kindly ask to this topic be received as feedback to better construction of future “Patchs”.
I love this game, i really do, but the pve for me is really something i only do when i want money or an item skin. as you say there’s no challenge. people can say wvw and pvp is repetitive, but you can’t stack in one spot and autowin an enemy zerg by auto attacking (sans eotm) without moving. i’m buying HOT for the class changes. I want to see how they’ll perform in wvw and pvp.
Make Dark Path ground targeted instead of requiring a target.
I think we’re the only profession without a targetless leap/teleport and it shows.
This would make necromancer much more playable in tight situations. I can’t even count how many times i’m either the -only- person behind the zerg (aka, dead) because I lack teleport/ rush mechanics, or i see an enemy necromancer getting mobbed for the same reason. Whoever designed the necromancer as a class seemed to have looked at mesmer and necromancer and said that necromancer had the superior sustainability.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
I think all we know is that the damage is based on condition damage.
Apparently we’ve had different experiences with this lol. While after the recent patch some rangers are a bit harder to kill overall I’ve never had much of a problem keeping up with another class, the only time it ever really becomes an issue being when their so close to death they try to run but even then it’s not to often they can get away unless your in wvw and they jump inside a tower but that’s any class. Personally I’ve never had an issue with necro in this department.
See that’s the thing, you have a few exceptions. You are apparently one of them. If you immobilize a thief, it can teleport away, same with a mesmer and ele. If you immobilize a ranger, warrior, or guardian, they can rush/charge away. If you do it to an Engineer they can do seven million different things to laugh at your 25s cooldown immobilize.
Point isn’t how effective it is if it lands, it’s just how few gap closers we have. Mobility does more for attrition than you think.
maybe we could have more chances to apply cripple and/or chill. Immobilize isn’t really bad, but imo thematically is out of place, and as you said, it has more downs than ups. And kittenmit the range, seeing people dodge it by sheer fortune is not as frustrating as seeing the “out of range” phrase when you’re almost in melee
I’m afraid if they increased the range on it they’d also just increase the cooldown :/
Hopefully the thief Elite Specialisation will come out of stealth, and be [Revealed] soon™
But, still no news yet. I’ve been on the edge of my seat for weeks now!
Oh you.
pin cushion.
15 chars.
Point of the post, I’m asking the developers of the Necromancer class how well they think the attrition works.
I also play ranger and engineer quite heavily, i can honestly tell you(especially with the free vuln stacks on the new consume conditions) sniping them is quite fun, and i am beyond not worried about my ability to get away from them.
For me, the design philosophy seems to be that necromancers should be able to keep their foes within range of their skills at all times.
Sadly, this is rarely seen. (Unless of course they are chasing you, which is where necro really falls flat on its face.) The gap closer skills are on huge cooldowns, even traited. (the -33% is NICE why does it require a health threshold?)
I think to other immobilize skills such as net shot, it has a 1000 base range, 2 second duration and a 10 second cooldown. Let’s compare this to dark pact; deals 600 something damage(irrelevant..) immobilizes for 3 seconds, 25 second cooldown. Twenty. Five. Seconds. The immobilize is only 33% more effective than a skill with an 10 second cooldown, yet has more than 200% the cooldown? Can you just get rid of the damage and adjust the cooldown accordingly?
Think of it this way: a warrior is halfway across the map in this time, a thief has gone around the map twice, then backstabbed me out of nowhere(rarely results in me dead, point is mobility) In a game where mobility seems to be the philosophy for everything but necromancer, what gives? I know i’m not the first to post about this, probably won’t be the last either. This is also completely ignoring the fact that leap/rush skills ignore movement impairing effects.
While I seriously look forward to reaper, I saw the cooldown of the pull move, it’s -huge- how is being such a slow weapon and huge damage modifiers going to you know, make them land? I get that chill is a major factor, but in a game where everyone has some form of rush/leap skill sans necromancer…you get the point.
Sometimes philosophies don’t match up with realities. (Soviet russia being an example)
Not trying to ruin anyone’s day, just sort of held my breath on this one because I really want to love reaper.

I put my sigil of Generousity on my Frostfang way back when, and I think I die a little watching that thing collect dust.
i made frostfang for my necromancer too, and i don’t use it. it too, collects dust. Sadly i don’t see axe being tweaked until after HOT, which is a shame because axe has been a poor choice for a weapon for a very long time.
Axe really just needs to be completely reworked, and sadly i just don’t see this happening at all.
it needs to be melee, at least in my opinion. Only way I see it competing with anything. Take the vuln application if you want, it’s not applied quickly enough to be useful in tight situations. It’s honestly a bit frustrating to see a weapon so similar to ranger longbow to not get the same treatment. How are you going to make it melee without overlapping the functionality of either the dagger or greatsword?
If that happens, what are we going to use when we need ranged power-type damage? Staff auto? That attack is even worse then axe 1.
Well, if we were not getting greatsword, i would’ve said they could’ve upped the damage on attack chain and made it similar to warriors, maybe giving it a few whirling attacks.
Other way it could be reworked is giving it an attack chain similar to scepter, but in a power version and increasing the range, and making ghastly claws pierce/cleave.

I downloaded Directx(latest version) and updated my drivers, then restarted my computer. Not sure which one fixed the issue but it’s fine now.
That_shaman datamined some upcoming items which highly suggests we’ll be getting a warhorn, just look at the design (currently labelled as “ascended warhorn”). I would be very disappointed, to say the least. ;_;
i’m probably not the first to say this but, what do you have to go on that isn’t a picture of an ascended warhorn?
is the message I received after I clicked play this afternoon. Does anyone have any idea what this means(other than the literal)? It’s never happened before and the game was running completely fine last night.
Now when i use Consume Conditions then Locust Swarm for swiftness I don’t tag random enemies because of the self-blind.
Thanks ANet!
Is this supposed to be a joke? Locust swarm ticks several times, you get ONE blind from the heal if you got that MoC trait. One tick and that blind is gone.
yes. it was. a very obvious one at that.
there have been dozens of condi metas. even though your reply doesn’t seem to be serious, you could at least make it accurate.
More the reason to nerf that heal. Just think about all the poor condition thieves, warriors and cele engineers we killed. Horrible, just horrible. No kappa.
yes, more of a reason to do it now instead of the other times.
sadly that’s not how arms races work.
Because in a condi heavy meta that heal is obviously overpowered. And we don’t want to cause unnecessary difficulty to our new engineer overlords, don’t we?
there have been dozens of condi metas. even though your reply doesn’t seem to be serious, you could at least make it accurate.
What if it was a healing weapon…
then i wont be buying HoT
Agreed, I want to hurt things.
it better have more than one cc. guardian and warrior hammers are cc machines, i expect something similar.
the engineer’s elite specialisation and pvp in guild halls are the only reasons why i would buy HoT, and if it turns out engineer becomes a healer with minions or something equally inane i just won’t buy it. there are few selling points if you don’t pve.
with you there. i’m almost totally ignoring this ‘challenging pve content’ nonsense. I want to see how these new specs perform in wvw and pvp predominantly, and if hammer performs the way we’re all hoping(IE a hybrid between guard and warrior hammer) then it’ll be one of the most fun things on any class. (i desire to knock people off cliffs with a hammer on an engie too!)
so no change. Considering the change to the major heal skill, I’ll take it as a good thing.
honestly with the ten stacks of vuln i can imagine how well i can snipe necros with my ranger now. Rapid fire takes less than 4 seconds to go off so..
Make Mawdrey and feed her the dust. Don’t think you can still get the star that you can feed the empyreal stuff to, though.
doesn’t that thing cost hundreds of gold to make?
Yes, and not worth it for that alone imo.
You’ve seen how easily you get this stuff. The odds are against them making new eaters anytime soon. If you’re not planning to use these mats then keeping whole inventories of useless mats is hoarding and not something that ANet needs to correct by increasing capacity.
Just delete the bloodstone and empyreals if you don’t have the eaters. Make the dragonite eater when that comes out.
really need to just let us sell the stuff on the trading post. I will eventually be using some of the mats but I don’t think it’ll ever be that much.
10 stacks of vulnerability PLUS this?
HI RANGERS, I R BULLSEYE.

i’ve gotten to the point where a noticeable portion of my bag space across a fair amount of my characters is taken up by these items. Are there any plans to increase collection size limit in the future? Yes i know of the gem store item in the past that increased this limit, but i don’t think it increased the limit by 2000.
lets deal with the problem of nearly every piece of light armor being a dress or robe, and every piece of medium armor either being a mall flasher trenchcoat, or something that just looks silly.
WTF F F F ?
Is this guy for real? how come he has 5 million hits?
i was hoping he wasn’t at first. But…100% serious. Quite a fitting song for the thread, ironically so probably. Everyone that has gripes with how necro is right now(myself included for a very long time) will play the living kitten out of Reaper and they know it.
It’s okay, refer to Bhawb’s signature.
I am very close to shelving this necromancer post-HOT and picking up a class that does what the box says it does.
The other half of me however, refuses to let whatever they do to the class limit me in any way shape or form. I will make my Reaper a god to be feared.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
almost all of my time spent in game is spent in wvw
and almost three years later, i’m not even close to any of these achievements.
plague signet would be wonderful in death shroud, even more so in reaper shroud.
sliiiiiiiightly.
RIP Warrior….
You went from the strongest class @ launch.. to absolutely USELESS…
Not only they nerfing everything on it, they are also nerfing the mobility on GS.
So in what way is the warrior getting any love? You must be trolling. lol
My Banner build got the chopping block. Going to make my regen warrior unusable. I was complete support and now it’s going to suck.
my blood magic line circa launch says whats up.

as a necro i find your reply absolutely ridiculous. warrior is still the easiest class to play in the game. that is and remains a fact. Necro has needed things since launch that it hasn’t gotten yet, and will not get ever.
Master:
Wilting Strike: Your pet inflicts 4s weakness when you activate its command [[f2]] ability.
Two-Handed Training: Greatsword and spear damage is increased by 5% and those skills recharge 20% faster. Greatsword and spear hits have a 50% chance to gain 3s of fury. This trait has a 10 second internal cooldown.
Natural Regeneration: Your pet gains natural health recovery and their healing power is increased by up to 450.Grandmaster:
Beastly Warden: Your pet’s command [[f2]] ability causes 2s of taunt to foes around it. This trait has a 15 second internal cooldown.
Zephyr’s Speed: Combat Only. When you swap pets you and your pet gain 3 stacks of might for 15 seconds and 3 seconds of quickness.
Honed Axes: Gain up to 150 ferocity while wielding an axe in your main hand. Winter’s Bite is now inflicts its effects in an area at your target’s location.i’d really like to know why the axe and greatsword skills were moved to a healing power and pet skill line. I currently run both of these on my ranger and have absolutely no desire to spec into this line at all. not only that but the axe trait is GRANDMASTER now? seriously? the axe isn’t even that good at all for rangers!(or anything but warrior) my build just got completely annihilated. completely.
Remember that the actual points are being partially divorced from the traitlines. So it’s not a healing power line any more per se, your berserk weapons and armour will (probably) compensate for it. Besides, the traits you recieve are hardly bad; you can take a trait which gives buffs when call of the wild is cast, and one of the marksmen traits is to trigger call of the wild when you swap pets.
They tend to crop up in the beastmaster builds more anyway; since the pet does much more damage than in other builds, you want/need the survivability of the greatsword and you often see the axe for a ranged option.
The traits I’m narked about personally is having to choose between two handed training and natural healing.
i don’t spec into marksmenship at all now, becuase i like the utility of the axes as well ast he greatsword. so i run traits accordingly. after seeing the LB changes, it now has even more ‘appeal’, compared to the axe. The fact that winter’s bite is now an aoe ground target for me is just a huge ‘cool story bro’. I was hoping for some auto attack modifcations for the weapon, but oh well. I will switch back to longbow i guess.
in order to even use my current build i have to spec into beast mastery. i have no interest in beefing up my pet. I am a wvw player, i need condi cleanses. Survival of the fittest is gone i believe so there goes any sort of reliable on the fly cleansing. Might actually end up shelving my ranger.

the dagger trait would be good without the health threshold. I mean what the kitten is that? I can’t imagine a circumstance where i’d use life siphon above 75% hp.
Can we please get some cool Rifle skins in the gem store? I see all these other weapons that are bad kitten but never a rifle. Maybe like Scarlet’s Kiss? Purtty please!
i’m with you on that, rifles are a bit underused so maybe the overall demand isn’t there. I want some ‘realistic’ looking rifle skins, by that i mean not glowy bits of rock i’m supposed to believe shoot bullets. (zenith, leyline, etc)
heal for 15% of your outgoing critical strike damage. Well, thief now has a better life siphon than necro could ever hope for.
