As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Sad staff is confirmed. But after the Tempest disssapointment it was easy to spect Anet giving Thief yet another melee style. I hope is actually a good one, truly different from the actual base, and not only a new set of gimmicks to do exactly the same…
Wich could be the name of this new Elite Spec?
The Ninja? The Distractor? The Dragon Poker?
DareDevil according to datamining
*Dare Devil
daredevil* is one word.
Yes, it is. Except in the datamine they made it two words. Arrrgh!
Next we’ll be seeing the Handy Man, the Post Man, the News Paper …

i hope one of the traits that comes with the spec is something like the +300 vitality trait in guardian’s honor line. It would be awesome to have a tankier playstyle along with this.
use it when you’re unable to be focused, IE when your enemies are cc’d.
Hello, at first sorry for my english, he isn’t good.
Im old GW2 player and im dissapoint engame in this game cause this game have NO ENDGAME.
I stopped reading here because there is end game. Anet considers Fractals end game for PVE….
From the Legendgary backpiece blog:
“The second is that—while we view fractals as our infinitely expandable, endgame version of 5-man dungeon content, and…”
So, since the OP is ill informed I stopped reading.
fractals, for me, are like a painfully awkward date that just won’t end. they take forever and are by no means fun(for me)
With today release of Final Fantasy 7 on IOS I don’t see any reason GiuldWars1 couldn’t be ported over to the mobile platform. The first PC I played the game on had fare less power then today’s mobile devices. This would bring new life to that game and generate more income for Anet. They are charging $16 for FF7, I’d gladly pay that much if not more to be able to play GW1 on my phone or ipad.
final fantasy 7 is a game that was on the first generation of sony playstation. it had the graphics of a gameboy color. guild wars was released eight years later to my knowledge. with a much better engine and graphics capability. point being, playing final fantasy 7 on an iphone 6 would be like playing pokemon red on a game boy. current iphones have vastly more processing power than PS1’s, and can run a game like FF7 very smoothly. Maybe not so much guild wars, or it would, and my phone would blow up after a week.
this one time at the golf course, tiger was jealous of my guardian.
PU dire. beat everything.
PU dire is a condi build.
Lemme just provide some choice quotes from you over the last few days.
from the engineer forum:
elixir c. tossing of elixirs…annnnd well i rarely lose to condi builds.
from the necro forum:
most condi (insert class) don’t tend to be able to deal well with condi transfers to be honest. So i think the plague signet is a must( and soon ’suffer) in wvw.
You don’t seem too concerned about condis, why are you so apocalyptic about it now?
Did you get facerolled by someone in WvW?
depending on class i play. each class has their own ways of dealing with conditions, and some classes can outperform cleanses to the degree that they’re really annoying to fight. example being, mesmer. i’m glad you went that out of your way for argument’s sake though.
to clarify: i rarely lose to condi builds (on my engi, that was posted in the engi forum for a reason), and my necromancer. not so much my guardian or ranger. their active cleanses are on much higher cooldowns, and there are less of them.
everyone knows how brainless bearbow used to be considered, now there’s PU and stealth spamming on mesmer. add perplexity runes to the mix and you have a build that can beat nearly everything, whether or not you’re even the slightest bit talented.
is this ever going to be addressed? it’s really one of the strongest builds in wvw/pvp right now and very hard to counter. (fun fact, old PU wasn’t this strong. it still had more cheese than all of wisconsin, but wasn’t as strong as it is now.)
1. Perplexity runes require interrupts to be effective. Interrupts aren’t easy for people who aren’t “the slightest bit talented”, unless facing other people who aren’t “the slightest bit talented”, in which case what’s the problem?
2. It’s not one of the strongest builds in pvp, because stealth spamming in pvp is counterproductive. This has been explained (and ignored) exhaustively.
3. When combined with PU, The Pledge adds more stealth than PU itself does. And since that’s a bug, fixing the bug will have a dramatic impact on your complaint.
4. You’re implying that new PU is cheesy because it’s even stronger than old PU. Old PU wasn’t cheesy because it was strong, it was cheesy because clone death allowed PU builds to run around spamming clone bombs from stealth, which is troll play at its finest. No clone death means combat requires coming out of stealth, now. If power were cheesy, elementalists would be limburger.
5. WvW is a terrible basis for build balance. There are far too many factors in WvW to make it a good indicator of build power.
6. PU mesmer is only powerful in WvW roaming…a play case that is not central to WvW itself. The majority of play in WvW involves the zerg and group play, which PU builds are really not great at. So you are wrong, it’s not “really one of the strongest builds in wvw/pvp right now,” it’s one of the strongest builds in “WvW roaming” specifically.
In sum:
- PU builds are only overpowered in WvW roaming.
- WvW roaming is the very least important segment of GW2 game play, balance-wise
- The Pledge is a bigger issue than PU itself.
- PU condi builds using Perplexity runes are not easy mode.
tl;dr: you are right that stealth mesmer is very powerful in WvW roaming, to the point that it may be worth looking at balance of it after dealing with all the spvp and pve balance issues surrounding mesmers.
You’re wrong about pretty much everything else.
so PU is NOT a crutch build. okay. That’s why 7/10 mesmers in wvw run it. whether it does anything to the benefit as a whole wasn’t really my point, and I ..kind of thought that was pretty obvious. Though that’s not fully true, when you have a mesmer that can get 40+ seconds of stealth that’s hiding in a keep, it becomes a serious problem when they are that difficult to get rid of simply because of the traits they have taken.

Gonna get nerfed
Because it’s competitive
Then play rev
tears of ’suffer’ing
Keep it as a direct damage weapon:
1. Add 3rd attack chain that deals higher damage and has a secondary effect (chill/cripple).
2.Shorten cast time OR increase damage.
3. Add blast finisher.Make it a HYBRID damage weapon, like a ranged warrior sword:
1. Add 3rd auto attack chain that inflicts torment
2. Leave as is
3. Swap 1 condition with 1 boon for each target hit.
Trait: change trait to have a 33% chance of inflicting either torment, poison, or bleeding for 5 sec on hit with no icd.
i like this one more than mine honestly(the first one) because there’s already a hybrid weapon, scepter.
though i would shorten the cast time as well as increasing the damage. it should be at least on par with volley, or even rapid fire. it’s the only ‘ranged’ power weapon we have.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
We already have a post like this. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Axe-Resurrection/first
Oopsie.
1. rework into an auto attack chain, keeping the function of both the first and second hits applying vulnerability, and the third and final hit dealing 600-700 damage(maybe a boon rip, functioning like mesmer’s sword, dealing more if there are no boons)
2. turn this into a frontal ranged aoe(using warrior’s eviscerate animation), the necromancer leaps forward slightly, dealing 1100-1300 damage(base, 900 range)
3. leave as is.
Well, it kinda ought to be ranged power weapon regardless. We pretty well have melee covered with dagger(soon adding GS into the mix), ranged condi with scepter, and ranged support with staff.
I suppose you could tweak some stuff, and make dagger condi melee and axe power melee. Though to do this you would need to make staff the ranged power option with associated buffs to actually make it a ranged power weapon.
2/3 classes that can use axe in game (ranger and necro) leave a lot to be desired. ranger’s axe (mainhand) is quite terrible for what it does, and necro’s is equally bad for what it does. it needs an attack chain.
swag giveaways haha. shall i bring my obey hat?
I like the idea in a thematic-y, maybe-some-day sort of way, but the last thing we need is more shouts.
sword/pistol.
that was easy.
As ranger’s longbow?
I say yes, but only to speed up volley and increase the range on it.
I have to say that i’m like minded here, especially with the weapons comment. I feel that if more weapons are introduced, IE aquatic weapons being made useful(on land), they should be base line, or at least achievable without sacrificing another spec line. Having to choose between greatsword and spear would be way too difficult of a choice. As it stands, i cannot give up soul reaping or death magic. there are traits in there that are too vital to give up.
The issue I was running into is that the current specializations(trait lines) are a bit too tight nit to really allow for anything to be given to them. Such as new skills or weapons. Elite specializations come in to fill part of this gap but some thematic stuff gets lost because of this. Such as my example with the scythe and not being able to use it on reaper.
Another problem i see is the potential of elite specializations out numbering core specializations. Which could eventually happen.
i predict it will happen, actually. It could be a really big problem, like i said as it stands now, there are certain traits that i can’t live without in my preferred game modes.

my only gripe is that i have two transmutation crystals (need three to get a charge) sitting in my bank/inventory for the rest of time.
I don’t think I even have a torch, on any of my 8 professions…..
Could this be because torches are meh? Nah. Must be some other reason.
My faceroll cheesebuild mesmer with torch says hi.
Sup.
Just to chime in here, I am from CT and getting level 3 packet loss. Kinda glad that the ping issues I am experiencing isn’t from my end, kinda of a hassle to learn how to fix this stuff myself lol.
yeah you’re not kidding.
Same CT Hartford. All day issue that has gotten worse overtime.
quite a few of us in CT with the same issue. it might not be on Anet’s end either then.
Have you done a tracert to the server? Might be an internet hop between you and them which would sadly mean neither can address, but at least you would get a better idea. You should be able to type /ip in game to see the IP of the server you are hitting, might also help them pin something down if its a server issue with some of the instances.
Yeah i can’t even connect long enough to do that :/
the website is taking a while to load as well sometimes.
Do you have acces to all neccesary ports?
This was an issue at launch as well. And most people didn’t know Gw2 uses some TCP and UDP ports.
Info should be on the site though… But I can be completely mistaken…
How can I check that? Also, nothing has changed in 6 months on my end. I was playing fine this morning, and the problem began in the afternoon, around the same time the users in the other threads I linked made their posts.
yeah, this port issue has never been a problem. i’ve never had this problem of being unable to connect/constant disconnecting before, save for not having internet. well save for right now. it’s quite annoying.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
cool, guess i’ll do something else. it most definitely is not on my end.
is there anyone else this is happening to right now? i’ve done a speed test and my ping is 14 ms.
Basically it comes down to what Lucius said, why run necro/ranger when I can run war thief and ele and be done with the dungeon rotations as fast as possible? I can promise you that the majority of people don’t run dungeons for the fun factor anymore it’s all about that coinage.
well a lot of people, like myself, do not find pve fun, and use it to fund other areas of the game.
my simple solution is to just run with friends, I don’t run enough dungeons for it to really matter anyway.
My beef with dagger is that it has a clearly defined purpose as a life force generator. In the case, the greatsword would be well served as a higher dps weapon.
i’d rather it remain what it is, a burst weapon.
It has high auto attack damage, which is nice but that is only auto attack damage. If all other profession’s rotations were just auto attacking, then it would be very powerful.
Other professions don’t have utility skills that hit as hard as Wells do, though, nor do they get a second health bar as their profession mechanic to help with defense.
which it most absolutely does not help with. death shroud is basically turning the hourglass upside down, only that hour glass pours a lot quicker this time around.
Chill is useless crap…. I beg arena remove this OP CHILL from auto ( how arena thinks ) and give to auto something more useful ……. just hands down for reaper …
while i won’t share your wording, i will share the sentiment. just put cripple instead.
Hey guys!
So I’ve been playing Engineer since launch now. I think I can safely say that I am an experienced engineer (Nothing extreme or special). Lately I have found some people which I PvP really much with and I enjoy it. I play alot of different builds and I like to experiment with builds.
However I stumbeled upon one very big problem: Condition removal. Whatever build I try I tend to die really really quick when fighting a burn guardian for example.
I know that engineer’s have very few realiable condition removal, even worse when it comes down to remove conditions several times in a short period.
So how do you guys handle with the “Condition creeping” in PvP? I could really use some tips and tricks.Greetings, Fvux
PS, I am currently using Rune of Meladru for less duration, Healing turret as cleanse, rune of generocity and the minor trait in inventions that removes on heal.
elixir c. tossing of elixirs…annnnd well i rarely lose to condi builds.
Wait what? Robert just posted like 3-4 times before the weekend, more dev posts than the combined posts of every other profession currently in the game. Sure Revenant is getting a lot of talk because it is new, but besides that we have had more communication than everyone, and if anything he is probably very busy sorting through the feedback and allowing us to hold the conversations ourselves (I’d say we’ve done an incredible job so far without needing help, leaving him to actually compile and start to figure out what needs to be changed). No reason for him to post until he has changes figured out, I imagine he’s crazy busy for a while.
agreeing with bhawb here, i’m going to assume their silence(my optimistic side talking) for ’we’re working on it/considering suggestions’. Can’t exactly expect the lead designer for three classes to be here whenever you call for him.
the trait reaper’s onslaught should probably be a minor, or at least in a lower tier. and should also affect the greatsword as well.
Your argument is wrong. The condi damage stat powers up the damage from transffered conditions,
This one is wrong.
How so?
From what I know whatever condition a necro transfers to another player uses that necromancer condition damage.Funny enough, transfers use the original owner’s stats. That’s why its possible to kill things like engi’s with their own condition damage even though you could be running soldier. Its quite backwards.
And while cele necro isn’t bad, i don’t think its the strongest build still.
Wow I really thought transferring conditions used the Necro’s condi damage and not the other players.
but then what would be the point of sending back conditions from power builds as they dont use the necro’s condi damage?
……
…..
to cleanse them?lol aside from that, I was always under the impression that if lets say a P/D thief loaded me with bleeds I can xfer them to him with my condi damage as most of the time I was running over 2k condi dmg (WvW).
I guess I was wrong, well at least I learned something new today.
most condi (insert class) don’t tend to be able to deal well with condi transfers to be honest. So i think the plague signet is a must( and soon ’suffer) in wvw.
a whole raft of information on how the profession will fare underwater?!
i thought that bit was funny, mainly because theres hardly any aquatic combat left.after all that pestering they just had to do it to shut the “muh undawota cumbat!” crowd up.
They were reasonable complaints. A good deal of world exploration and storyline quests as well as some dungeon and fractal locations take place under water. Not having the weapons or skills to deal with those would make it impossible to progress through certain places on your own.
i don’t think that was the point either of us you quoted were trying to make. Yes i know that aquatic combat is ‘necessary’..at least in the sense that there are some very situational uses for it. Spears at least need to make their way to land already.
i recall using the skill and having no idea if it was working or not.
a whole raft of information on how the profession will fare underwater?!

Just increase the damage and put a blast on 3.
No need to reinvent the wheel here.
‘reinventing’ assumes it works in the first place in this situation.
Aw c’mon, really? You’re gonna let the war in the thief sub-forum continue on like this?
Okay, it’s cool that we’re getting another elite spec reveal, but seriously I need to know what the thief elite is going to be!
How you believe the Warriors feel?
How do you think rangers feel? Ours was the first elite spec that anet announced, but we still have zero information about the druid other than “druids will use a staff”.
Knowing Anet, the druid reveal will be dead last.
watch that not be true anymore. wouldn’t it be funny if they got rifle?
Your argument is wrong. The condi damage stat powers up the damage from transffered conditions,

maybe have this apply to greatsword as well? it might solve a major problem that the gs has.
I saw on metabattle.com that the celestial signet build is considered a meta build for ranked. I know the build is good and handles those pesky celes pretty well, but I wasn’t overly impressed with the other matchups I had with it.
What are your thoughts on this? Is this build really “meta”? What am I missing here?
you could just…not run it?
People believe that the Murssat are returning in HoT. So we might get them then.
believe you say. they were in the first trailer.
greatswords attack slowly. daggers do not. therefore the dps of daggers is higher. is it really so hard to grasp?
A statement like that makes me think you don’t really understand the concept of “damage per second”. Or even the concept of “per”. And you manage to come off like a kitten at the same time. Nice work.
To be clear, when considering DPS, the damage is just as important as the speed. If —and these are completely hypothetical numbers to address your point and not connected to any actual in-game numbers, so don’t misconstrue what I’m saying -- if daggers do 10 damage each attack and do that 5 times per second, and the greatsword does 125 damage each attack and does that every 2 seconds, there’s a scenario where the greatsword attacks more slowly and yet has a higher DPS.
alright, sure. so the greatsword attacks every two seconds, dealing 125. two attacks per four seconds, dealing 250 damage. whereas a dagger, dealing 50 damage per second, equaling 250 damage in 5 seconds. the ~2 seconds where the greatsword is still winding up(zero damage), the dagger has already done another 100.
therefore, dagger is sustain, gs is burst.
my point is really only that greatsword isn’t designed as a sustained dps weapon the way dagger is. but i do agree the auto attack needs more oomph, or a speed increase.
(edited by Lightsbane.9012)
-snip-
the concept of the greatsword is burst, not specifically the auto attack chain. I suppose the concept of the auto attack is to inflict chill, which i think i can definitely do without to be honest.
The concept of an auto attack is sustained damage, be it low or high and sometimes additional effects. A greatsword traditionaly has s slow attack time, but hard hits. This goes true for Reaper as well, as it follows the move monstar archetype, which is stated during the Reaper PoI. Slow and hard hits have a tendency to be top tier DPS in games because you need payoff for the slow hits. The rest of the greatsword does not scream burst. As a matter of fact it screams very high sustained damage and close quarters only. Vulnerability application, resetting PBAoE nuke (which deals lower damage than the auto attack chain as of now), a pull, and PBAoE that blinds and cripples. There is nothing that says burst in there.
necro. sustain.
i love jokes.
