Crossbows are unlikely because they are rendered obsolete by pistols and rifles.
However, Polearms were one of the last old world weapons to completely leave usage. I think they deserve some love in this game.

the last auto chain, dubbed punishing strikes, seemed to me like it would do the class more if it was a standalone skill on staff. And since staff offers no stealth at all, maybe it should replace dust strike? (do people use this? am i doing it wrong?)

upon finding the reclaimed staff and placing the skin on my daredevil’s staff, i noticed that it wasn’t a staff at all, but a halberd. I wonder what the chances are that polearms, a highly requested weapon, will make it to the game any time soon.

I hope spears make a debut even sooner. Their use on land is long overdue.

XP is LOST in WvW!

Correct, you get the exp but it is not applied to any mastery lines. Unfortunately I think this is working as intended as the auto loot was when it original came out. Luckily they have decided to look into changing that for WvW maybe the mastery experience will get the same love. Unfortunately the play anything you like and get progression towards what you want is not longer a GW2 theme. If you want something that came new with HoT you normally have to earn it in a specific area but that is another discussion.

yeah, how that isn’t a huge problem is really confusing me. even at the reveal of heart of thorns, ‘no grind’ was said many times. so was play how you want, where’d that go?

the thing is, if there was a solid choice of factions to join, megaserver would work. join a faction, show up in that factions base, where friendlies are from server x y z and pi. however, that doesn’t exist and never will.
not to mention that the true audience being catered to is the pve crowd. and the funny thing is, in a game called GUILD WARS, wvw is not the golden egg for some reason. (yes i know why the game is called guild wars. that doesn’t mean there can’t be guild wars.)

Well, they aren’t. They’re bottlenecking everyone, WvW or PvE, into playing on the alt they want to raise up. At least they aren’t making us do the full collections of the elite weapons on the alts that will use them, hmm?

But hero challenges are character specific in PvE, so they are specific in WvW as well. We PvE’ers don’t get to zip around to the HP challenges on one favorite alt churning out elites for our other alts either, y’know.

heres to hoping you realize how slow of a grind it is to get the required amount of tokens compared to doing it in pve. main point of my post: not everyone likes pve, some of us completely loathe it. there is little logical sense why those chests couldn’t remain account bound.

25% movement speed.

in Guardian

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

CORE Guardian (not DH or any other future elite specs) should have a 25% passive speed increase trait somewhere. This “weakness” not only removes a great deal of fun from the profession, it also greatly limits rune choise in many areas of the game and reduces some potential build diversity for no reason at all.

I’d implement said trait in the virtues line, it makes sense thematically (imo), and most importantly, it seems to be the standard trait line for the vast majority of ‘viable’ guardian builds.

It’d put it in the adept line, along with some other trait effects, Unscathed Contender maybe?

Unscathed Contender: Deal more damage and move 25% faster under the effects of Aegis.

Thoughts?

Problem with that is it negates the swiftness add on a skill like retreat. I bring retreat more for the aegis (because UC) but still I don’t think this is the route to go.

My personal opinion is that they should remove the daze from piercing light and instead put 25% runspeed with the trapper trait. Call it trapper’s agility. It makes the people complaining about DH OP in pvp happy, and makes every guard and their mother happy that we finally get move speed.

i bring retreat because i got rid of staff to use longbow. DPS guardian is more fun anyway. but yeah, now that every class has access to a +25% speed buff except guardians, I wonder why there isn’t one.

Warning for WvW players

in WvW

Lightsbane.9012

Hey,

A quick warning for the HC WvW players out there:

Some people lack common knowledge.. so I will spell it out for you all.
WvW has a lack of players at the moment because obviously there is a brand new game out. People are trying out the masteries, There is a halloween event..

So like Taylor swift said: Haters gonna hate XD

The new maps are pretty big, so when you’re playing on your own or with a small group with little to few enemies.. it’s not going to be fun! Go and explore the map, and in a couple of weeks it will start to pick up again.

So stop spreading the hate please… there is no need, i took a look at the new maps and they tackled a lot of issues people have moaned about without telling you, so if you’re still not happy, you never will.

honestly, there should be more people angry. experience earned in wvw doesn’t even go to the one place it should: masteries. it literally just..vanishes. I spent two hours in EOTM yesterday thinking i was leveling up my masteries, yeah no. didn’t happen. the exp may as well have not been earned. that makes me quite irritated.

but – the pathfinding, complicated maps, hero points and mastery grinding – its incredibly frustrating to me right now….especially cause i feel im running around for 2 hours only to achieve something worth 15 minutes…

and this is really a shame – cause it has so much great and beautiful stuff – but after hours of not finding stuff im ready to throw my keyboard into the screen

Gw2 at least had hearts

How can you complain about “grind” and then cite the most grindy part of the game as a positive….

Is everyone else using a different definition of “grind” and I missed the memo?

At least the hearts could be solo’d at your own pace..

Are you having trouble asking map chat to help at heropoints? Are you having difficulty killing the mobs? Are you having difficulty doing the story? Help me out here.

You’ll be doing everything at your own pace, its hard to steal someone elses.

People don’t always come and help no. I’m dependent on other people willing to come and help, and some of the hero point encounters are even timed. Maybe it will be easier when I start using other classes, but on my tempest it has been hell.

Oh just ask for help and if no one replies move on and come back later (assuming you can’t do it solo). The content is very much more a group effort, communicate with the map and it really opens up a fun atmosphere – we just completed the Tarir meta event with map chat communication.

If you don’t feel like chatting to people you can just solo explore and enjoy the scenery or have smaller impacts – I went and used my Alacrity to help a few people to the poisoned food hero point and used portal to help a few folk.

Or I should just be able to enjoy the game as I have always been able to enjoy it?

Thats not how progress and new things work, the game moved forward – it will require some adjustment but if you can take the step I think you’ll find it rewarding.

see, there’s been a crowd of ‘why should i go into wvw for map completion’ for years now. you are using the reverse argument now. upon quoting the design philosophy for guild wars 2, as well as heart of thorns, you might want to rethink making that argument.

Dude, stop complaining and start playing. Yesterday I fully unlocked Tempest and today I’m solidly workin my way through Reaper. Yeah, took less than a day to fully unlock the elite spec, and that was almost completely solo with very little help from others.

Remember each HoT hero challenge gives a whopping 10 points. Get your glider, bouncing mushrooms, and updraft masteries, then advertise in map chat or get some friends together and bang out those hero challenges. It goes incredibly fast.

i didn’t buy HOT for anything involved in the jungle storylines, masteries, or whatever. I bought them as a wvw exclusive player who wanted a new way to play necromancer. i loathe pve and all things to do with it, because it feels like a chore. i have map completion on one character because i wanted a legendary.
if I could have stayed completely out of maguuma jungle and gotten the elite specs some other way, I would have been two thousand per cent satisfied with this (pve) expansion.

okay, so it’s known the elite specs require an obscene amount of hero points. I expected it to be a higher amount, 400? not so much, nor did i expect them to be so incredibly frustrating to get. as someone who is completely uninterested in pve, I sort of feel looked over here. having to go through de facto jumping puzzles (made easier by masteries, sure) to get to a really obscure place to complete an activity to get 10 hero points OR do normal world completion (yeah, i hate pve. No.), it’s a bit annoying how much longer it will take to complete an elite spec in wvw compared to pve.

Defenseless

in Necromancer

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

When looking at what the necromancer does far better than any other profession and something they did have a minor theme in from the first game we find that unblockable is something that the necromancer seems to have extremely easy access to. Even going so far as modifying a weapon to be almost completely unblockable.

So lets continue to play with that but with more of a support element to it. But since the necromancer is always about supporting through debuffing I’m going to suggest a debuff that has been floating around for a little bit but was never given a name.

Defenseless: Those effected by defenseless cannot block attacks.

An extremely simple concept. And seems like it would be the same as unblockable when you’re by yourself. But the party applications are actually staggering. The ability to completely negate a boss’s ability to block your entire team for a short duration could surely aid allies in unique situations if a foe was to perhaps have a vulnerable defiance bar when they were blocking or just getting through enemies that stun you when they block allowing allies an easier time to break through it.

Sharing unblockable is also an option but I feel that it doesn’t quite fit the necromancer’s theme of hindering your enemies to support your allies.

So what skills should have this sort of debuff? The first two that come to mind is Wail of Doom and Well of darkness. Another idea I would have is that leaping through a dark field would trigger this debuff on foes around you. Giving some more unique utility to dark fields. Though that is just a minor suggestion in a much larger suggestion.

What are your guys’s thoughts. Do you think Defenseless would be a good idea?

see, at first i thought this would be about the usefulness of deathshroud against cc.(none, by the way) but…i don’t know about making a condition that causes skills to be unblockable. I have a feeling if it were created it would be given to the completely wrong classes, sort of like torment.(mesmer and thief)
it’s a cool idea, but the design decisions associated with necro over the years have made me very cynical on where it could go.

The Rifle, The shotgun(Proposal)

in Warrior

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

As it stands currently the rifle has a very niche role in Gw2, Back line sniping or roaming. When put against the longbow in PvE the Longbow wins on both Auto attack and skill damage + Utility. Even the overall damage done on [Combustive Shot] does more damage over time than [Kill Shot] does (providing the target stays in the field for the duration).

wrong, wrong wrong. save for utility. full zerker rifle will always do more damage than full zerker bow. always.

Future of our Specializations

I think if they made something based around cold magic as a whole would be interesting, IE something of a run of the mill Lich. For this, I would give Lich sword or something, and not even touch shroud. However, I would stay away from chill for the most part, save for a burst flurry(flurry. ice. funny.) skill or something.

Liches, in popular lore, tend to be very powerful necromancers who have conquered death, or something like that. They could use life force to cast these cold magic spells, (like ice spear, something like that.) as well as using life force on their utility skills to offer some kind of damage mitigation.

I was thinking the other day, what if necromancers got access to elixirs? What kind of devastating potions would they brew up, or what kind of life prolonging brews would they concoct? Well liches would use these to absorb damage(QED, elixir s) over a short amount of time.

few examples for the elixir idea:

elixir of unholy might: consume an elixir that clears four conditions, turning each cleansed condition into might. 30s cooldown.

elixir of immortality: consume an elixir that turns you into an invulnerable shade(or other …thing.) for 3 seconds. 60 second cooldown.

elixir of cleansing: consume an elixir that heals you and cleanses two conditions, then causes your next attack to transfer a condition.

I’d Give the Lich a Shield personally. A shield that uses Minion skills specifically. As for Skill type? Well, I’d go with Glyphs over anything else. You’re not a witch, you’re a powerful mage who’s known for Artifacts not potions. Especially considering that its also common in games that Liches are immune to potions and incapable of using them.

yeah i sort of went into rant mode with elixirs. ignore all of it in reference to lich.

And with Malicious Sorcery, Scepter 3 deals all of its damage in 1.7 seconds. Confusing Images, however, is crazy difficult to use effectively, which is part of why hardly anyone uses scepter, despite the potential.

you must not play much wvw, mesmer’s seem to exclusively use scepter/torch. anyway, point is that ghastly claws and confusing images deal damage similarly, only the scepter has the range advantage. I think axe should get a cast time reduction and maybe a range increase, especially now that raids have been confirmed.

both of these skill have a wind up, and used to take the same amount of time to cast. Spec’d properly, mesmer’s scepter can do both condition damage, as well as insanely good power damage. (i’ve gotten 7k confusing images on a low crit damage build) However, unlike Ghastly claws, Confusing Images got a huge cast time reduction, as the skill deals almost all of its damage in under two seconds(not counting the confusion, or the wind up that takes up most of the skill’s cast time.)

Giving ghastly claws this treatment would not only improve the QoL of the weapon, but make it a lot more interesting to use. Make the wind up of it more prominent if needed, but shorten the time it takes to cast the spell.
Maybe even a range increase? please?

that’s because those other classes lacked something in the area which the elite specs are hopefully making up for.

[Suggestion] Putting bleed back on Rifle

If you run rifle you run power, theres no point for a bleed that will tick for 50dmg/sec.Cripple would make more sense, aka sword autoattack.

putting it on par with ranger’s long bow would make more sense. cripple on every shot would be a tad ridiculous.

love the name, love the theme. It made me think of the comic book character. (who also uses a staff like weapon)

I’m assuming the naming and weapon choice was intentional?

No Druid on BWE 2?

You’re assuming that because the druid hasn’t been announced yet it will suck. On what logic are you connecting those facts into that conclusion?

Logic? There is no logic here this is a QQ thread son, it’s just “I DIDN’T GET THE THING I WANTED SO IT MUST BE BAD BECAUSE REASONS”

Logically
1) we don’t know when HoT is coming out and probably will have more than enough time to test all of the elite specs at least once
2) The ones shown during the demo were probably the most finished at the time, and probably have gotten and will get the most internal testing.
3) I’m pretty sure druid is gonna be lame no matter what, but there’s still hope for hammer engie
4) In addition to engie and ranger, thiefs also aren’t going to get their elite spec in the next BWE as far as i know.

So basically, this is just a pointless plea for information or something about the as of yet unannounced specs, and they assume that because we don’t know anything the developers also don’t either, because god forbid a game developer want to surprise us with some cool stuff and maybe not let things out until they’re ready.

thief is getting their spec next weekend, they just haven’t said what it’s called.

ArenaNet Overthinking it with these Names

I swear ArenaNet stop overthinking it with these names.

I am an MMO vet since Ultima Online and I have to say these have to be the worst names I have ever seen for classes. These take the cake. How hard would it have been to give the Guardian a cool name like Crusader? Or the Thief a Monk name?

Daredevil makes everyone think of “Evel” Knievel.

Its not too late. Come on.

And now “Forge” for engineers? What? A forge is an object. Brutal…

FORGE is not final, and is probably not what they’re going with.
But really? Daredevil didn’t make you think of the comic book character AT ALL?
