As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
it’s funny really, apparently it’s necromancer’s duty to be the only profession that recognizes a greatsword weighs something.
I know the POI on the Druid hasn’t been released yet, but here’s a screenshot of the icons of the beta’s ranger skills. I don’t recognize a few of them.
Tier 1, Second Row, 1st icon?
Tier 2, Second Row, 1st icon?A few I did get:
Prayer to Dwayna – Beseech Dwayna to restore your health.
Avatar of Melandru (Elite) – Transform into an Avatar of Melandru. Stability (3s)
Reaper of Grenth (Elite) – Become a Reaper of Grenth. Chill (4s), Poison (4s)Thanks
Yeah, you’re not a new player are you? Or maybe just never played a human?
I think giving Ranger’s a staff is a stupid thing to do. And if this is the only specialisation available, I think I’ll have to either delete my Ranger and not play it or find another game to suit my needs.
I have enjoyed GW2, but have been outraged at how useless Ranger DPS is compared to other professions and how they still havven’t sorted out the many many issues with pets.
I specifically created a Ranger to play as RANGED DPS! But my Rapid Fire will never compete with a Warrior’s Hundred Blades, or the DPS that any of the other professions can do!
And instead of improving this, you’re gimping it and giving us a useless staff support spec. -.-
- Improved Ranged DPS
- Improve pets! Make the DPS pets survive long enough to actually DO any dps to champions etc.
- Give us some useful stun-break/stability skills. Rampge as One should be stun-breaker, instant cast.
i think you completely misunderstand the concept of ranger.
Says a lot about Anet’s policy on trolling that this thread still exists.
well some of us believe that those who try to pass themselves off as gods deserve to be reminded that they aren’t. Call it trolling if you like.
important thing to note is that trolling can only exist if you take it seriously. If it bothers you that much (which seems to be the general consensus among this thread), ignore it.
“Trolling” is just an cute word for “Sadism” used by people who don’t know that taking pleasure from causing the suffering of your fellow human beings significantly pre-dates the internet.
i think trolls remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. The ones that do are often bothered the most by it.
Most of my problems customizing my characters come from gender lock-outs that ArenaNet puts on characters, especially my asura and charr.
Oh, and those awful clipping issues (weapon clipping, tail clipping, etc.).
I kind of agree with you, but I don’t think is THAT limited as options offered.
Second, outfits. While I like that they exist, Anet barely releases any actual armor set now, wich is REALLY disappointing. Amor sets are far more desirable than outfits because you can mix-match stuff.
hit the nail on the head there. I’m someone that likes my armor to look like, kitten forbid, armor. Dresses, bikinis, trenchcoats, what have you, simply don’t cut it for me. the fact that light armor across the board (for men too) falls into two categories: robe or flamboyant looking whatever, shows that there’s little design variety. Especially with Reaper coming out, i’d rather my necro not look like a Jesuit priest from 1347.
Even worse, Trechcoats. I’m not really interested in my characters looking like a mall flasher or, just as scary, a mall goth. Why isn’t scaled armor a thing for medium armor as well? Can’t we get more creative with material types too? Maybe thick leather should look like thick leather and have leather plates on it? (Off topic, i’m not sure why chainmail is classified as heavy armor..)Well i’m done ranting.
There are a few medium armors without trenchcoats. And for light, you can wear the forgeman’s armor (SE dungeon) which looks like heavy metal armor.
I wasn’t really a fan of the forgeman’s set, sadly. I really liked the Roman-esque theme they had going with the Vigil’s honor medium set, it was pretty well done.

i’m noticing that hostile guards are spawning inside friendly towers as well.
i was hoping that guild halls would be located at some of the easier jumping puzzles(some of them have a really cool hideout feel to them), instanced of course. accessed only by guild members and people guild members invite.
What about..Dragonslayer?
kitten, guardian has shouts. lets just call it dovahkiin. Fus ro kitten .
It seems to me that the majority of the people that do not want mounts in the game came from Guild Wars 1 (such as myself), and the people that want mounts in this game came from some other game such as World of Warcraft.
i’m in the ‘no’ crowd mainly just because there are more important things the game needs.
What the two above said; MF won’t affect champ box loot.
don’t you think it should? Otherwise what’s the point of it?
i simply cannot +1 a suggestion like this. in fact it’s the first instance i’ve heard of this in well, ever. I don’t like some of the annoying nonsense said on map chat either, but i’ve made separate chat tabs so i don’t have to read it (should i not have to do that? i don’t have an opinion) is it that people are constantly bothering you every day? if that’s the case it’s probably the same few people.
secondly, it’s an mmorpg you’re going to get people who are going to pm you. if it takes on a badgering tone, block them, problem solved. if it’s harassment, report it as such.
guard demand condi dmg and they get one with traps from range as close range probably were too powerful.
necro i bet be par with mesmer specialization
warrior will be boring as guardian
thief with rifle will get more qq
ele mmm…
ranger will be support now with staff? so guardian become ranger and ranger become guardian?!
engi probably will have nice cool things also
honestly i really enjoy running into perplexity engies on my necromancer. they love plague signet.
You don t rly need plague signet for that, you could also use your other transfers. Or just corrupt boon their insta elixer B minor trait, free confusion stacks too :F
plague signet works better for a powermancer than corrupt boon.
how do you think staff will be as a weapon? I was hoping for some sort of melee gimmick, since the wiki stats that rangers are melee specialists but something called a druid just doesn’t imply that to me.
Thoughts?
well the article is mostly correct, the necro is the god/dess of underdogs it seems. i guess thats why it’s fun to play; no one expects a necro to come out alive when they’re fighting 2 or more opponents, but when it happens it’s glorious. It’s sort of like a badge of honor (no pun intended), the feeling of playing the most difficult class in the game and being somewhat good at it. what is incredibly irritating though is losing to builds and classes that take almost zero effort(warrior and any build it uses mostly) and brain activity to use effectively, meanwhile i’m struggling to stay alive playing the best i can with what i’m given. Anet really just needs to look in the mirror and think “wow, maybe necro DOES need some escapes.”
I’m a new Necromancer, drawn to this profession largely due to the potential of the Blood trait line and the possibility of being a life siphoning, clothie tank. While I don’t have nearly as much experience with the Necromancer as most of the people posting here, I do have plenty of experience with life siphoning classes. So, here are my humble suggestions on how Blood can be improved in HoT.
A note on DS: part of my thought process here is that the way that AreaNet can fix DS is to allow each trait line to synergize with/improve DS while having it offer group support in a manner that is thematically appropriate to the trait line. The only base-line improvements I’d suggest to DS be the use of utilities and that (non health siphon) healing grants life force while in DS (with a Soul Reaping trait that converts excessive life force to healing).
Numbers are just for example purpose and may be under- or overpowered.
Minors
Adept: Vampiric – Siphon health equal to 25% of all damage dealt, works while in Death Shroud. Proportion of health returned is increased by Healing Power.
Master: Full of Life – Gain regeneration while health is below the threshold and regenerate health while in Death Shroud if activated below the threshold.
Grandmaster: Transfusion – Siphoned health also heals nearby allies.Majors
Adept
Ritual of Life – <unchanged>
Mark of Evasion – <unchanged>
Quickening Thirst – Increases 25% movement speed while wielding a dagger and reduces recharge on dagger skills by 10%.Master
Blood to Power – Power, Condition Damage and Healing Power is increased while below the threshold.
Bloodthirst – Increases siphoned health to 75% of damage dealt.
Vampiric Glutton – Power and Condition Damage is increased by Healing Power, increases Healing Power’s effect on siphoned health proportions. <note: the idea here is to allow for stacking of Healing Power in order to make siphoning health do more healing then damage without nerfing itself.>Grandmaster
Vampiric Rituals – <unchanged, but the amount of health siphoned is determined by your damage to siphon health ratio.>
Unholy Feast – Draws conditions from allies and yourself while in Death Shroud. If there are no more conditions to draw, grant Stability. Gain Life Force for every condition drawn.
Vampiric Master – Grant the effect of your Vampiric <with your damage to siphon health ratio> to all nearby allies and increases the amount of health you siphon while in Death Shroud.
necromancer is a vampiric lord just like count chocula is an elder vampire from underworld
Now I recalled the content of my nightmare last night: my Guardian will be a dragonhunter. Anet, really? I just don’t know what else to say. Did you just wake up one day and come up with that cheesy name out of all possible terms in english, latin or spanish? I really want to personally meet the guy that came up with that name. Just to see what he looks like. What next? warrior —-> witchdoctor?
well if warrior got to be a witchdoctor they would get plague of toads! somehow these toads would explode dealing insane damage and knocking things back. making the warrior have to try even less!
honestly i really enjoy running into perplexity engies on my necromancer. they love plague signet.
Honestly, I’ve always felt that Lich Form should be rebalanced anyway, but not because it’s “too strong” or whatever. Elites on 3 minute cooldowns should be very strong, but they should also require a lot more skill to be that strong than Lich Form currently does.
i took lich off my bar months ago, i see it as more of a ‘hi i’m here, focus me now’
Warrior, closest I got is Rampage I might get 3 / 2k hits off before you run away?
y’know, i was going to take you seriously, then you said you were a warrior player. i’d like you to think for a moment about how much more time it takes to be good at playing necromancer compared to how much time it takes to be good at playing warrior.
Warrior: hour tops
necromancer: i’m still learning almost two years later
That is all.
/15char
i can already see the flood of edgelords in the RP community using these…
Baaack to my hiatus then lol
i would say good job to YB if it didn’t take them an entire map queue.
To be fair, only one is announced (Druid). We have no idea what the Necromancer is called. Only that they’ll need to murder their brother or sister and enchant a long pointy sword to accomplish it. I never liked him anyway.
by announced for necro, i meant we know the weapon.
we lost the trebs that might be in that screen cap to a spawn teleporter(not sure of enemy server), or there’d be more.
can we get some previews on the two announced specializations? IE necromancer and Ranger.
So I get to killing zitan and have to form a group if i wanted to play with others i would join a party also i don’t want to play with others and the no mercs thing is bs all the dungeons you run through everything no one kills enemies this game is horrible the view distance is bad too you can see 100 meters in front of you and thats it fix this stuff and i will play again I wanted play story by myself glad this game is dying
The most interesting about this change for necromancer could be that spectral wall. By moving through the wall we could force the opponent to either not pass or give up it’s stability.
so a reason to slot it other than loling while noobs fall of the edge in EOTM?
I’m jealous already :>
Anet, PLZ don’t forget us poor necro’s
with the change in stability my build is pretty much destroyed. i’d say with the exception of greatsword that neglect has already happened.
whats the change?
stability is gonna work like blind now basically. Once you get cc like a knockback the stability is over. Its gonna stack however… so lets say you got 3 stacks of stability you will be able to resist 3 knockbacks, fear or whatever else.
yeah so nothing changes for necromancer. only i’m twice as kitten’d now. that is really going to make it so anything with an interrupt is going to have that much more advantage over a necromancer. and unless foot in the grave gives a very large amount of stacks, the trait is now pointless.
wait whats this about a stability change? is its duration being cut or something?
This would be an extremely broken mechanic.
Anything that makes WvW easier to go into. Group based pvp with no way to rejoin your group is a major gigantic pain in the kitten . There is many times when I join an edge of the mists see the commander on the other side of the map and decide it’s not worth trying to get there. Leave and try again in 5 to 10 mins.
There needs to be some kind of way to get around the map. A teleport stone on key places, something. Anything so that when I join I can get to where the group is in some reasonable amount of time.
it could also make it an incredibly broken mechanic. turn on tag, suddenly zerg? I can already see the reports of exploits.
Personally I like the concept, but I think this won’t exactly be the case.
Necro’s already have a great deal of sustainability with their Death Shroud, giving them practically an extra bar of health.
The only thing that they indeed lack is the raw DPS, wich will, hopefully, be solved by the greatsword.
That being said, I would love it if ANet did something similar to your idea, it would give an extra dimension to the Necro as a class.
deathshroud offers the illusion of sustainability. you want to see how effective their sustain is, equip a hammer.
i’m judging this by the ever solid argument of ‘lol i’d rather look at a girl all day’, i’m gonna have to give this a no vote.
Defiler, Doomblade, deathknight, hoping it isn’t the latter.
you’d think shield on a class called guardian would be more emphasized. but nope.
are they going to only be available in pve and/or the new WvW map?

this could be cool, but i’m mostly hoping for more light/medium armor that actually looks like…armor.
If you take the time to notice, it’s actually the same people that keep making threads or commenting about their complaints over and over again. In reality I feel like the majority of the warrior population and this forum are pretty satisfied. I know i am…
That’s pretty obvious because most of the people who don’t like the class anymore aren’t part of the population anymore. There’s still, however, vocal players that want to improve the class and are upset about it having been neutered to the point where it’s at now. -raises hand-
if those people wanted to improve the class, they wouldn’t have complained about losing adrenaline when they missed. farbeit from anet to make that concept a bit more realistic. nor would those people complain when warrior is brought up to the skill level required of the other 7 classes. you have the easiest class to play in the game and should never be complaining period.
Nor should we have to lower or sound settings just because some people choose to be inconsiderate of others.
I don’t think this is inconsiderate though. The sound/particles aren’t that bad, and even you said it only lasts a minute.
Actually it can last a lot longer than a minute depending on number of stacks. Some people have way more than one.
A consume-all option without the lighting/animation would be nice.
i don’t really like having to wake up to an alarm clock every morning, but life goes on doesn’kitten
I always felt like the Axe should just be a melee weapon and they should introduce an additional ranged weapon for some classes (ranger and thief in particular) – something like a disc/chakram/boomerang.
that’s the feeling i get when i use axe, too. almost all of the skills associated with it are close quarters, or to keep your target in close quarters.
I think spoj is pretty spot on with how GS will likely work. I’m expecting power melee AoE control. And that is actually pretty good in my book. No it won’t fix PvE, but then again no weapon could really be expected to when the main issue we have is lack of support (traits/utilities) and not DPS (not that it is amazing, but mediocre DPS isn’t a problem with high support).
honestly, that’s what i want with greatsword. comparable dps to our other melee options, and control. hopefully the predicted chill on the auto attack doesn’t mean the damage will be closer to the axe auto chain. i’m also hoping there’ll be a ton of whirl attacks, maybe a ‘well’ unique to the greatsword, and an aoe pull. basically a necro version of guardian’s.
Im sorry my realistic speculations arent what you want. To be honest ill be thankful with anything completely different from mesmer greatsword. That weapon is totally useless. Whereas the guardians greatsword is the most useful greatsword in the game.
Mesmer GS is useless? Guardian GS is useful? oh… you’re talking about PvE? lol who cares
in wvw guardian GS is great.
The report from Reddit stating that Q3 would be a HUGE improvement of revenue suggests maybe between July-Septish
BUT I hope it’s sooner
the LW seasons usually start about then, don’t they? as far as i’m concerned, we’re going into maguuma jungle(unless he’s at the bloody entrance of it) and not just jumping right into the fight against Mordremoth.
Welcome to T3. My server IOJ and NSP have been dealing with the endless T2 hordes for about 2 months now.
the other servers in this matchup are in t4. then there’s FA. worst matchup in a very long time.
My personal hypothesis is that the greatsword will be a life stealing weapon. That its auto will steal health along with several of its other attacks as well. So it’ll benefit greatly from power and healing. This would let the weapon scale greater with more enemies and be less effective against lone targets. It would make it so it doesn’t step too much on the toes of the dagger.
I don’t want the greatsword to be our melee condi weapon because I feel that that title should be reserved for a much more interesting weapon. Aka, scythe or mace.
i’m guessing it’ll be a siphoning weapon as well for the GS specialization, hoping scythe is a standalone weapon independent of a spec.
there are certain things the GS needs to cover if it’s going to be worth picking up for necro though. some sort of evade on a skill, a leap(needed no matter what) or a block. there’ll probably be a ‘burst’ related to the siphoning, maybe a whirl attack like guardian. and hopefully more stability comes with this spec.
whatever they call it, the specialization that uses greatsword will be a pseudo-shadowknight.
I have my guesses(still holding out for a spear-o)it might be more of a ranged specialization. hoping it’s geared toward power instead of conditions, as far as the specific weapon it’s given, i’m drawing a blank.
what do you think?
Inquisitor – Pistol/Pistol
or call it demonhunter/xxxhunter/whatever. for guardian i’m definitely for something like that.

I am highly in favor of the Revenant getting a new starting area and personal story branch. With mechanics like profession specializations coming in HoT specific content, the Revenant would be as well.
maybe all new characters should start in maguuma jungle? they did say the jungle would be the most in depth map ever, could mean there might be a starting area.
