Why aren’t there capes in Guild Wars 2? These were a thing in the original Guild Wars and would seriously be a nice cosmetic addition to the game. Is there some kind of technical problem to making capes or has it been decided they’re not fashionable anymore? I certainly prefer a cape that spans from neck to knees rather than a pant-cape fusion.

while i’d like them, they’d only look good on heavy armor classes imo. almost every medium armor skin is a trenchcoat, and almost every light armor skin is a robe.

You don’t need mobility to have survivability, see: guardians, who are our slow-as-molasses-in-the arctic-winter brothers and sisters. Literally all we need are slight improvements to our already existing mechanics, and more mechanics that scale into multiple player focus.

they’re slow as molasses, but have a leap, and gap closers. the leap on greatsword has gotten me out of lots of bad scenarios.

So they’re giving more survivability… to a class which didn’t need any more survivability in PvE…

I understand this might be cool for PvP, but it really sounds like they are ignoring all the problems in PvE. Cleave on Dagger autoattack wont do anything, Necros need some form of team support to justify their existence in dungeons.

you can think whatever you want, but you have no idea how much of a pingpong ball you are until you go into wvw or pvp. i’d like to think that is why they’re giving necromancers more survivability. though i’m expecting next to nothing being changed, to be honest. there are specific things we need(mobility) without it, we don’t see an increase in survivability. maybe they’ll surprise me, but they probably won’t.

Tbh, I thought Zomb was underpreforming during those matches.

First on power necro, hardly getting his daggers to speak (if he had them equipped)
Lich form spam 1 wasn’t the best way to use it, several occasions where a pushback was in order (but because of long casttimes and focus not able to use it)

Then on condi also underpreforming, yes he did guard near (as condi) and it worked out untill someone entered the cap ring (hambow firefield) iow It became clear that necro doesn’t have a viable role to play if there are no people holding points (heavies,engies, damage negating classes). AT ALL.

Hopes someone else notices this too.

they allow hambow in tournaments of this scale? that’s like getting a huge handicap on a professional golf tournament..

To put this in perspective, if they don’t clump them together, the last two professions to be covered will be done on September 5th, giving us just 4 days to give feedback and for them to respond. That just isn’t enough time.

That’s why I think the last 2 will be guardian and ele since they, IMO, are in good places and should see only buffs to underused things and other small tweaks both up and down on whatever skills.

Probably next are mesmer and necro so we can give some feedback.

i can see it now: necro gets regeneration while in death shroud. yay?

Its the materials that you use when making a legendary that make it expensive. No one is willing to waste 1k gold on other stuff for a bad legendary.

What are you talking about mate? Legendary weapons are the top tier luxury items in this game. I just offered proof that Precursors are highly affordable to nearly anyone, including new players.

I beg to differ. Rodgort’s is an awesome looking Legendary. The animations are top notch. The torch head almost looks alive. And if they were so useless, then why would someone have purchased my Rodgort’s Flame listing from the TP?

right, if you can use any of those. i can’t use rodgort, or a harpoon gun, nor am i interested in the legendary trident.

Warriors = real necros

Clearly there are other expectations of the active necromancers fulfilled that makes the community going. It is not the necromancer’s fault that warriors have it all. By that account, a warrior can represent all “real” classes.

you could say that actually.
best at applying bleeds
best at ranged dps via the undervalued rifle
best at melee dps via their entire list of melee weapons
best at escaping via whatever gs#5 is called, condi immunity, damage immunity
best at staying alive via the above and healing signet(great idea making that a thing anet)
the rest of the classes do okay at best with any of those, but not all of them.

hmm….

bleeds, I might give you that one.
ranged DPs is severely outshone by Elementalist if glass and Engineer if spec’d
Melee Dps, to many variables to consider. Still outdone by a Thief and Ele though
Escaping, perhaps thief can still do it better. no.
Immunities I can give you to an extent, simply because without those skills the class would be utter garbage.
Healing signet is really, really not all its cracked up to be.

This is a term thrown around these forums left and right, but where was the original use of this term and what content was it used in? What was its intended meaning and are players quoting it correctly?

The clearest usage I’ve been able to find was in a blog post where Collin states:

“To make playing in our open world worthwhile, we’ll make it rewarding enough for players to spend their time there across all levels. It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.

But outside of that, the term seems to be player made. I see countless players using it, even a year before the game was released, yet nowhere can I find any official use of “play how you want” in the way players have been using it.

So please stop using it in such a broad way unless you can find a statement by ArenaNet saying otherwise. They did not promise that you’d be able to do all content with ineffective gear or builds, craft the new back piece without doing fractals, or the countless other things that players use “play how you want” for.

i enjoy defending objectives in wvw borderlands.
still waiting for that to be rewarding.

I think it all comes down to dagger having limited real use for dagger 2. If you’re kiting, or someone is kiting you and you’re out of options, or they may go into stealth, it’s totally useful. But it isn’t a big damage dealer or heal so people don’t like it. The thing I’m not getting, is that outside of WvW, axe really isn’t in a better spot at all.

A limited use in zerker builds maybe. It isn’t supposed to burst, if it did that it’d be completely OP for healing you for 2k (base, I can get a close to 3k heal) at the same time. I find it funny that people are now coming out to hate dagger 2 when it is the definition of helping our attrition by allowing us to heal without losing offensive pressure.

If you want to burst use wells, dagger is not supposed to be a burst weapon and it never will be, nor should it be with how much built in sustain it allows.

i don’t technically ‘dislike’ the skill, i just think it’s cooldown is about 2 seconds too high. that way if it was traited it could be included in a rotation regularly, though a 2k heal every 8 seconds is a bit OP.

Everyone does realize that light vs heavy armor is a 5% mitigation difference right? Its not like having heavy armor suddenly = tank and light = squishy (lol D/D ele).

lets not go there. when i found out(during my days maining an engineer) that engineer was supposed to be a heavy class, i was kind of upset. anyway, off topic.

Warriors were already too strong by half. I hit a warrior tonight with three full shatters, multiple interrupts and a moa and blasted the heck out of him in between with everything I had…..he still easily killed me.

Now rangers are easily interrupting most skills and killing before I can get into attack range, if that is that I can get past their multiple pets.

This patch is totally in the wrong direction.

the patch hasn’t even dropped yet , it won’t be out till september or october.
yes take note when fighting rangers , i have seen a few dual bow rangers with oquickdraw , some vidoes too.
best use Terrain to avoid damage rather than trying to dodge and use a gap closer to get behind them (this also makes the pet loose its combat postion)
it’ll have to run to you again and there won’t be anything blocking your path.

vs warroirs don’t worry they are currently slightly stronger than they should be , and condis work best , if your the power shatter type it won’t do much thanks to the armour and full Adrenaline health, you’ll need condis and lots of kiting to slowly bring a warroir down.

September ninth on the patch actually.

I disagree with most stuff said in this topic except for speeding up Life Siphon to match the speed and ticks of Ghastly Claws.

The only reason I never use dagger and the reasons that I doubt it will ever be viable is that if you go melee against engineers, warriors, thieves… pretty much any class or build, really, you get totally dominated.

Dagger SUCKS… BAD – there is no evade like a warriors whirlwind, there is no CC skill like almost every other class has on a melee weapon, no burst which is what Life Siphon SHOULD be as well as it being a faster cast so that you can actually heal with it because of the ridiculous damage you’ll be receiving (it’s a melee weapon…) and the auto attack literally does nothing but damage to the opponent.

The auto attack is pathetic; it only hits 1 opponent and does nothing but single target damage to them.

IMO Life Siphon needs to become a burst skill like Ghastly Claws is and to have a faster cast time so that you can heal with it. The auto attack needs something else – a cleave of 2 targets will not make this weapon viable because that would mean that you are fighting multiple players, which means you’ll get destroyed in melee range.

Dagger auto attack should probably siphon for every hit or something.

Leap? – No because that wouldn’t make sense with any skills we have. Dark Path used to be a ground targeted teleport (so I heard) but was changed to what it is now.

Evade?- No. Mainly because none of our skills would make sense for that.

Ranged Power weapon – See axe. Axe isn’t awful but it is ranged and it is power. A slight buff is all that it needs.

More access to torment – The last thing this game needs is more condition spam to create more condition removals which further causes other condition builds to be unviable. Conditions need nerfed and so do the removals. EG. cleansing ire should be able to miss and should only remove 1 condition per burst bar. In turn, improve warriors alternatives to condition removal such as mending.

IMO we need access to more protection, healing that doesn’t totally suck and maybe more blinds and weakness.

I do agree with the 2 handed weapon part though…

I’m not saying pick either hammer or g-sword necro. Im saying that all weapons should be release on all classes. This is just the one Im most enthusiastic about. as for saying its too close to the anime style you hate… don’t play an ANIMATED video game then. That is the most ridiculous comment I’ve ever read. I would love to play more unique builds with a larger variety of weapons and I know a lot of other people would too. So I’m currently working on concept art for the build I’ve written and I’ll post a more accurate build again soon.

anime refers to japanese cartoons. that being the case i want nothing from anime in my guild wars.

Dagger is absolutely fine, don’t break it just because you don’t like it. The addition of cleave is simply a QoL thing, it doesn’t have to “make sense”.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree.

at the very least, the dagger cooldowns need a significant reduction.

and the list begins. i will start with adding my own suggestions.

an evade skill similar to mist form. why the vampiric class doesn’t have something like this is very confounding.

a leap skill, preferably on a two handed melee weapon, at this point i don’t care what it is.

a cleave ability, preferably, again, in the form of two handed melee weapon, from what i’ve read it’ll be on dagger. this makes no sense to me.

a ranged power weapon, while deathshroud sort of kinda …yeah no it doesn’t fill this role. Longbow? Rifle? something? what exactly do you give a necromancer for a ranged power weapon?

a block skill on a weapon

more access to torment, still immensely offended thief has so much access to this.

complete dagger rework, life siphon is worthless, dark pact’s cooldown is too big, dagger#5 is too…pointless

i’d say i’m being optimistic in hoping half of this will be addressed, please add to the list as you see fit.

i’ve always found it ironic that the class that’s supposedly the shadow of death has the sustain of a pinata. anyway, as a necromancer you are always at an immediate disadvantage at the opening of the fight with a thief, especially if you are as glassy as they are(again, irritating that the class that practices death magic can’t at least turn into mist or something…oh wait.)

It would be really cool if siege weapons would reflect technological advancements made, while it’s not a needed change at all it would just be cool.
IE arrow cart turned into something like a rocket cart, would do the same damage as the arrow cart but would look and feel different/advanced.
catapults turned into field mortars, IE the cannons used to siege forts in the american revolution, ballistas turned into rocket launchers(think how cool the ballista#2 skill would be if it fired a rocket!) just a thought is all.

stealth as a mechanic needs a rework, thief skills, not so much. most rogues in other games can stealth only once in combat, mainly because they have dozens of in combat options for dps(thief does too, but is too reliant on stealth compared to other game’s rogues) as well as dodge being a passive stat. honestly, if you took a DPS operative from SWTOR and supplanted it here, it would wreck face.

Most PvE players are in exactly the same position. It’s not like they’re a guaranteed drop or something you can buy without using gold in PvE either.

(Also it’s purely anecdotal but the majority of people I know who had a precursor drop from an enemy got it in WvW.)

my point is you tend to make more gold outside of wvw, and that’s interesting that most precursor drops happen in wvw, since nearly all my time in game is dedicated to being there the best drop i’ve gotten is entropy

as someone who finds the PvE in this game completely boring and un-engaging, how exactly am i supposed to get a precursor if i don’t farm gold? i guess this makes me ask another question: what’s legendary about buying it?
i look at my thousands of badges of honor, wondering why i can’t do something with them, then it dawns on me, why can’t i use a very VERY large amount of them for a precursor?(probably because a game called guild wars wants me to pve, but anyway)
anyone else run into this? i have nearly everything but the precursor for frostfang and it’s just so beyond my reach because of the gold cost in the TP, as well as the chance to drop being below zero.

Great point about the condi removal, I think I’ll run null field rather than portal to help with the conditions.

Yeah, unless deceptive evasion and Illusionary persona become baseline, we don’t have a lot of wiggle room from traits. Any ideas to improve defense for this build?

I didn’t find sword/focus scepter/sword great for teamights. Any ideas on how to make it work better in group fights?

pick your targets? it’s insane in small fights. it’s meant for single combat, which i think i said. i run stealth, blink, and arcane thievery with it so my uptime is pretty solid.

They should be buyable, or droppable, or grindable, or somethingable, though, at least. As it currently stands there is no way I can get these items whatsoever, save for crafting, and, as aforesaid, I hate, hate, hate crafting with every last molecule of my being. I don’t mind the other way being harder than crafting it directly, or more expensive, so long as there is a way around everything being gated behind an anvil. For instance, the ascended weapons and armor could be purchasable for a ludicrous laurel amount, as a tertiary path to getting. It would be something to grind towards.

well it isn’t really crafting. it’s more having the materials in your bank/inventory, clicking a button, then magically getting the item while your character stands there doing math homework.

Critique a Scepter/Sword + GS build?

i use scepter/sword and sword/focus. yesterday i fought a guardian for about 10 minutes, coming out victorious. i’d say going with two ranged weapons on a mesmer is never a good idea because all it takes to drop you is still, a thief. greatsword gives you no defense against anything, save for the knockback. i’d recommend dropping greatsword for sword/pistol, it’d make you a lot better at 1v1 fighting.

Lightsbane, I think you’ve misunderstood the opposition to spam because you’re not seeing any other use for map chat except for trading.

It’s used for idle banter at times, for coordinating zone fights such as in Dry Top, calling out events, asking questions about how to do certain things, finding help with a tricky vista, etc. If all these communications get drowned in constant WTB/WTS yammering, the social game experience suffers. Solution is a Trade Channel, perhaps? No dice, the would-be trader gets spammed away in that specified channel and trots over to the general chat tab to look for commerce and boom, we’re back to the Times Square Ad Blitz.

We don’t want to miss all the social stuff, so turning off the chat is not an option. Far better to not have trade spam in the first place.

i guess i give up at this point. it’s something i want but won’t get(like mobility on my necromancer) and i’m fine with it, but i can’t see chatspam as the practical reason why it won’t be implemented, part of it, maybe, but a very small part of it.

I think Necromancer’s defensive challenges come from its class mechanics. The dev’s could say l2p but lower mobility and slower dps generation are real handicaps.

those are handicaps like being blind with a broken leg in a zombie apocalypse. aka, being blinded and crippled in wvw. good luck getting out of that scenario when there’s 10 people chasing you, on a necro anyway.

Why does everyone keep saying give axe cleave. I cant even imagine how that would work on a 600 range weapon target requiring weapon. Unless you are imagining splash aoe around the target. But then thats not really cleave. Cleave works without a target. :P

Axe doesnt need cleave. It just needs a huge buff.

splash damage is how it should perform, yes.

I think the lack of chat box spam in this game would be enough of a reason and pretty obvious.

really? that’s not a problem in other games. at all. don’t want to see it? change the chat filter. i said logical reasons. at least the first reply made sense. then again, almost all trading scams are incredibly obvious and count on the ‘victim’ not having a shred of common sense.
the reason it would(is) be useful, is that there are sometimes items in a game that are so outrageously overpriced(precursors, usually) that you might be able to cut it down a little bit by making an offer.

I find the mystic forge to be pretty reliable for getting precursors. The hard part is getting the mats for the first one.

OT: I think chat spam is a very valid reason not to have p2p trading. sorry this isnt obvious to you, but I like being able to read map chat and say chat without having to be interrupted for commercials for crap I dont want.

it’s not an obvious reason to me because in other games i turn world/map chat off. have you never played a game with that function?

I have played that type of game because I play this game. Chat options are nice to have but I would rather not *have to turn one off because it is being spammed with wts/wtb listings.* When that happens then all of the public chat channels are going to get spammed, happens every time. Really this is all that needs to be said on this topic. QOL.
