Does any one else feel the home instance is under utilized (especially the Asuran home)? You get maybe one quest point that takes place there but after that a “bunch” of people that you barely know or don’t know show up like it’s a bad house party. (By the way, Mira is sleeping in my bed… standing up! see picture below) With the way it was originally discussed I thought more of a character’s personal achievements would be represented. Asura for example: the Asura are so proud of the college they attended, why doesn’t their school pride show? Most everybody has a school pennant so why not have a banner for their alma mater, later you can add a faction banner next to it and finally a Pact banner when they’re established. A Norn example would be just before you fight Issormir you have to bring back a trophy for evaluation, your first trophy. “This pelt paved my way to Issormir and was my first step toward greatness.”
The resource nodes are cool but aren’t really worth the gem store price, though the next step is a plant and vegetable node pack. A victory garden would be worth the price and fit the tone of the game.
Does anyone else have ideas how this space coud be used more?

off topic…the signets my eyes are burning.

Lightsbane.9012

My problem with adding a crossbow to the class is we already have a longbow which is supposed to be our high power weapon. The 2 would likely fill a similar role.

Personally, I’d prefer we were given a staff to fill the more nature side of the class and give us some much needed group utility.

i think they’d perform very differently. crossbows fire much slower than regular bows but do a lot more damage, with a slight range decrease(or increase, idk)

Enable Belinda's Greatsword Scabbard

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

Belinda’s Greatsword skin is one of the few (only?) weapons in the game with a scabbard for when it’s sheathed, and it’s quite elegant. When you draw it, however, it just magically transforms into a blade.

Is there any chance we could get an option to toggle leaving the scabbard on and off, much like helm/shoulders/back item? When on, we’ll have the unsheathed weapon in our hands and an empty scabbard on our back. When off, it’ll be the way it is now.

This could be a great way to introduce a new type of sword + scabbard design and introduce more customization into our aesthetic appeal. This could be done with greatswords, swords, and possibly pistols.

so why, when a nodachi is introduced, does this finally bother you?

um, not to be rude, but you’re kind of spamming the same message by posting it in every thread that could be considered a build work shop.

And some of your info is just plain wrong.

Under the standard power necro build for pvp, it uses Axe/Focus as weapons (along with staff). Is that a joke? I don’t want new players to be deluded into running things that don’t work just because you’re shamelessly promoting your website, which although is a good idea, needs some serious Quality Checks.

Like I said in the other post, feel free to join the discussions on the wiki website so that changes can be made to the things that aren’t pleasing you, we would need those “serious quality checks” by you. As for now, I choose to trust one of the top PvP guys at Metabattle that worked kitten providing those necro builds.

hello readers! I’d like to clear some things if they weren’t explained earlier. To my knowledge, there is no existing backstory to Ventari at all, which i thought might be pretty important since..an entire race owes him their existence. I have at this point in time, double checked that about …ten times now. If it is not clear, despite the story being about Ventari, Crowsbane is the main character(this will be explained later in the story.) As for the god Thalius, he is the god of Truth and Wisdom, and as for the Centaur culture itself I mostly took inspiration from the Aztecs and the Sioux(despite me saying at the beginning it was based on the wampanoag, i kind of drifted from that.). Their city Skystride, was where Shaemoor garrison is standing now, that is where the largest building in their city stood, the Temple of Thalius. Could this be why the Centaur keep coming back to Kryta?

I dunno. I saw very many necros in the recent ToL. I saw no reason they needed any defensive buffs at all.

I’m glad many necros were seen. They did die pretty easily if they were focused in team fights though, which is why overall compositions and deciding where the necro goes was critical to their success. Its pretty anti-meta to use them since they counter much of the celestial boon spam of the current meta fairly well.

the necro on the winning(or losing team, can’t recall) team would be very, very easy to kill for my setup on my necromancer. i don’t know how he survived so long in fights. i didn’t see any stunbreaks or condi cleanses. those are the necros i just love to run into.

Nah, I’m fine with Lich as a concept, and 3/5 are actually potentially very useful for the build (just situational, which is fine considering its a DPS transform). It just needs its 18k in one shot damage reduced (this is an actual number, using air/fire/auto/chill of death which all proc off one hit potentially) and its 2/4 made actually niche instead of useless, plus some usability improvements to 1.

Overall though, its a cool concept, and is one of the few transforms that gives you a true feeling of power. You actually feel like a powerful lich for a few seconds if you use it correctly, and it has counterplay built in. It just needs some small changes.

i have cleared 6 enemy players on a camp with lich form(they didn’t focus me, big mistake), so when you’re not focused you can just mow things down.

Torment, necro being left out?

Left out? They have not even given the necro changes…

That said, the sceptre change may be OP, but it really needed a buff. The auto-attack is nearly as bad as elementalist’s dagger earth one.

Torment on auto-attack isn’t a problem. Torment on Clones is. Removing the Torment from the first strike in the chain and increasing the duration on the second strike would be fine.

Hopefully they don’t “increase defense” by just buffing offense up the wazoo (a la dhuumfire).

One way to buff defense in group-fights is to increase mobility, although that is not something they want to do.

Making stab more accessible (or attractive, by making foot in the grave more desirable) is another option.

Increasing LF generation skills to be more aoe is another way. You get the same healing in a 1v1, but more when another person joins in. Similarly, they could buff “Parasitic Contagion” which already scales really well with more enemies.

they will not give us mobility. because giving it to the necro is against philosophy(7/8 classes have a free leap(teleport, shadowstep, gap closer leap, etc) making even guardians more mobile than us. all I can do in group fights is hope i don’t get focused.

The Future of Low Risk High Reward Builds

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Lightsbane.9012

Lightsbane.9012

With the latest installment of the skill bar changes, I am voicing my concern for the future of pvp in GW2.

I fear that low risk, high reward builds are a bit disenheartening, and while most of us complain about P/D thieves or turret engis, anet isn’t doing much to make higher risk, high reward builds more viable than their low risk high reward counterparts.

The biggest offender I see in for the future is PU mesmer. Right now, it is regarded as the most toxic build in the game, and anet is buffing it with torment on autoattacks. Thankfully, its overreliance on stealth will still cripple it in higher level spvp, but we didn’t need this build to gain more condition output.

The adrenaline changes will likely make more warriors thanever cling to their longbow for condition clearing, as cleansing ire procs will be less reliable with other weapons, and the longbow apparently has the best adrenaline generation of any warrior weapon (correct me if I’m wrong about that).

P/D Thief is in a similar position to the PU mesmer, and now many could run venom share instead of maxing out trickery or shadow arts to provide group damage benefits with their buffs.

D/D elementalist is another low risk high reward build, albeit with a higher skill cap than most of the others, and I’m glad that it won’t be facing any major changes, although staff ele, a more complex build may be less viable without meteornado. Turret engineer seems to face a minor nerf, and other than that will remain a somewhat braindead build.

Finally, spirit ranger, a build said to be cheesy for spamming 1 while being in a perpetual state of evasion and protection. With the new axe, their mightstacking potential with a celestial amulet and appropriate runes, or a more condition focused build, will beanother low risk high reward build. I am more okay with rangers getting crazy might stacking, because D/D eles pretty much ousted spirit rangers out of the meta, and now with might, they’ll be able to compete for that team support role more, albeit with lower mobility. And with axe being so great in that patch, the issues of autoattack spamming with shortbow will likely disappear.

And then theres the necro and guardian, and we don’t know entierely what they will get, but I’d be kind of sad to see buffs to minions or spirit weapons made viable.

The builds a tend to run in pvp right now are glass S/F ele, glassish power necro, and some hybrid/condition ranger with traps or spirits. S/F ele is very high risk, high reward, while powernecro is barely even viable and simple at that, while the type of ranger builds I play will be extremely buffed by the new axe, while I don’t think the longbow changes would entice me enough to make a high risk high reward ranger build.. since it barely works compared to thieves, mesmers, guardians, or eles with that mindset.

What are your thoughts on the future meta, given that most of these changes effect underused skills and traits, many of which will remain underused, or simply encourage low risk-high reward builds to flourish?

honestly? every time i see a warrior with a heal signet i get irritated. nothing says ’i’m trying to beat you with skill’ like a passive full heal. that and a warrior with four signets is effective nothing running four signets should be effective. it’s like you’ve pinpointed the noob when you find a four signet anything, yet warrior is rewarded highly for it(endurance regen, insane hp regen, damage reduction, condi clears) I get that warriors are basically the intro class for every MMO, but wow, tone it down a bit Anet.

@ukuni It’s not about 4-4-6 condi PU needing or not needing a buff (it doesn’t need one) its about opening a viable main hand weapon for other condition based Mesmer builds to be developed. I understand that many players think that the role of conditions is already too great in PvP settings; however, since Anet seems to be doing nothing to mitigate this in general, I see no reason to lock Mesmer out. Mesmer has 1 build that is run in serious sPvP (4-4-0-0-6) Staff/GS, why shouldn’t Anet do something to put other builds and weapon sets on the table?

staff/gs is a serious build? why is it that those types tend to be the worst..? anyway, i don’t use scepter for its conditions, so i’m wondering if the torment on the auto attack will mean i’ll be see a lower base damage on it.

Part 8a, Home

I was standing behind the city gate, ready for any enemy that might come through it. My hands began to hurt from how tightly I was clenching the hilt of my blade. The battering ram slammed into the gate again, and the obstacles I had thrown behind it displaced. The gate would not take another hit.
“Brothers…Sisters…when that gate falls, know that they want our land. If we don’t stop them, our families will die. Fight as one, and stay with me!” I yelled, raising my sword in the air, as the last ram hit took down the gate. I charged, and every Centaur behind me followed.
I charged out of the gate, my blade crashing against Human shields. My vanguard’s armor shone in the light of the sun, we were as Thalius’ fury made manifest. I swung my blade, cutting down five at a time, then I heard a loud crack. The smoke of fire poles could be seen a hundred years out. My vanguard’s numbers started to fall rapidly, but they did not falter.
“Brothers! Shield formation! We must fight!” I yelled, then let out a loud yell, slamming my hand against my armor.
A spear was thrown over head, it landed in the chest of a very large human and he was impaled onto another soldier behind him.
“Ventari! Now!” I waved my hands in his direction, and he nodded at me. “Focus the fire poles!” I knew if we could eliminate the fire poles we could have a chance at defending the city. I then turned back towards my portion of the battle to a sword swinging in my direction, which I blocked quickly, then elbowed the enemy soldier in the chest as he fell to the ground, then I thrust my greatsword into his chest plate.
I then looked up and saw the arrows from Ventari’s archers flying over head, most of them landing in the ranks of the fire pole users.

If they would stop putting all their eggs in one basket we wouldn’t have GW2 go down every time someone decides to DDoS Wildstar -_- Also if they could actually use some of that GW2 money to fund feature development on the game that’s earning it instead of siphoning it off to pay for other games that would be super.

they were ddosing NCsoft(aka, all games down) and then GW2 specifically. note, they also have no control over the attacks. there are programs out there that can generate false hits(pageviews, etc) numbering in the hundreds of thousands, i don’t know of any server that can take that when it’s a lot of people doing it.

true, but that’s not the content that matters. good luck doing wvw, fractals, ANY dungeons, without at least rare quality gear. do you not realize how big the stat jump is from blue to exotic? it’s massive! you are likely to have trouble fighting even normal veterans once you hit 80 and still have blue/green gear, plus NOT adding runes and sigils to your gear SEVERELY gimps your character. i mean if you’re fine with farming everything you said is true. by farming i mean not champs, vets, or world bosses.

Mobility isn’t key to living through damage, and it makes no sense with our profession design.

anet has shown that they don’t know what our profession design is, so i will reiterate; we need mobility. every class but us has a leap or a free use gap closer(RTL, whatever daggerfire#3 is on ele). without this, we still have no true attrition, life transfer might give us life force back while in deathshroud, but it’s incredibly minimal and negligible.

i don’t even know what to say. Engineer is also on september 5th i assume, since i don’t see anything about them being earlier. just proves my point that they care about the professions based on the amount of people that play them. i’m afraid if the changes the patch brings aren’t totally mind blowing there will be even less necromancers and engineers running around(engineers are in a FAR better place than we are) and they’ll get even less attention and the cycle will continue. Thanks for the cleave on dagger anet, if we even get it.
