I’m pretty sure Logan was supposed to be a flawed, but ultimately sympathetic hero.

But the actual dialogue writers ended up making him into a whiny teenage boy, who’s treated as such (for example when he’s admonished when he complains about having to “be the burned one”)? Does anyone have sympathy for him when he’s pining for the queen like a pimpled 13 year old? Was this a writer fail or did they do it on purpose?

Rurik was supposed to be a hero too right? And players cheered his death.

One can only hope that in an attempt to make us hate the new dragon, Anet will have it kill the queen.

It’s interesting how so many NPCs who are clearly supposed to be sympathetic characters are hated by players.

Let’s say the man in charge of security in your city has reliable information that a terrorist organization is planning to burn both the city’s orphanage and hospital simultaneously.

In fact, we’re not just talking “reliable information,” but rather an undercover agent has witnessed the planning and preparations of this plot. The exact time and date for when these arsons will take place is known.

Upon hearing of the terrorist’s plans, the chief of security arrogantly expresses that the terrorists are fools who don’t realize he can easily deal with two simultaneous arsons.

Then, when the time comes, security forces fail and the hospital (or maybe orphanage) is burnt to the ground killing dozens inside.

The security chief not only keeps his job, but a top government official tells him,

“You had more than enough notice to stop this terrorist plot and yet a bunch of people got horribly burnt to death, but hey, no one can be perfect!”

TLDR: I think I’ve keyfarmed too much.

It’s not even the just lower tiers. Blowouts lead to even bigger blowouts as people stop logging in for the week so by monday, barely anyone is playing on the losing servers. If you give people some source of rallying point (win EB!) the matchups stay interesting for perhaps a few days more every week.

Due to population imbalances, most matchups are blowouts. It doesn’t seem like Anet has any interest in dealing with the population issue, so here’s an idea for the smaller servers to have something to fight for:

Keep the current PPT score as is, but also include sub-scores:

  • scores for just EB: only PPT and kills from EB count.
  • scores for each BL: same as above but just in the designated BL.
  • scores for timezones (maybe break the day into 3 8-hour blocks?).

This way outnumbered servers that normally have quit by Sunday night can rally together and try to win maybe just the EB game, or their BL, or if they’re great in NA prime but gets nightcapped, they go for the NA timezone win.

People who normally quit by the end of the weekend might stick around for the rest of the week this way.

Best of all: implementing this takes next to zero work on Anet’s part.

Careful what you wish. People complained about the Lupi wallsploit and now we have melee range necrid bolts. Causation or just correlation? Who knows, Anet doesn’t communicate — so why risk it?

Do as everyone advises for people who complain about skipping: make your own LFG. One that makes clear how you wish the party to play the game.

What about this for making players lives easier: when you talk to a repair NPC, he doesn’t ask whether you want a repair, he just does it. It costs nothing anyway. So when you talk to him, he says: “I’ve just repaired your armor,” and then the vendor window opens and you can sell your stuff.

(Personally, I think the entire repair mechanic is worthless. The behavior Anet believes it encourages is: “I must play better in order to not break armor,” when in reality it only creates the automatic behavior: “I see a repair NPC, I must go and talk to him.”)

At the very least, you should be able to see your cooldowns. There’s no good excuse not to have them available for your own viewing.

Enemies: debatable. One technical reason not to show enemies is that would involve more data transfer (your cooldowns would have to go to server, then to each enemy).

With traits each getting their own icons, perhaps its time to display cooldowns for traits that have cooldowns (same place as where boons and effects go now, with countdown where stacks are shown now).

It’s pretty important information that, for a competitive game, should be available to everyone.

New waypoint system

Just to clarifying a few points, since there seems to be some confusion. On Borderlands the 3 capturable waypoints are at Garrison, SE Tower and SW Tower. Garrison is for the home team and then each of the invading teams gets a waypoint at their closest tower. These waypoints can be contested as normal. We’ve considered home team waypoints for the Bay/Hills keeps too, but that’s probably too strong. Keep supply depot max goes up to 1100 at T3, not 500.

Terrible idea that shows devs have no knowledge of how the game is playing in the lower tiers (“lower” means at least as high as T4).

Servers don’t have enough population to run with reasonable numbers in both EB and home BL. Without WP at Bay and Hills there pretty much is no defending those keeps in off hours (off hours at means any time outside 4 hours of primetime). So more paper keeps and more PvD.

What about posting permanent scouts? Well, it’s not surprising to see little to no action for hours: scouts now pass the time getting a small amount of actual gameplay by responding to white swords on camps. With no WPs, the number of camps you can cover is severely limited. Who wants to log in to not play the game?

Some big guild could make a project of that server. Its existing players have tons of heart and do a boatload with very little. Quite the scrappy crew.

Careful what you wish. Big guilds that come to make projects of servers will leave as soon as upward progress stalls, leaving your server with the same population as you have now but in a higher tier.

Ideally you want to recruit from your own server but Anet totally destroyed that ability by removing all traces of servers in PvE. (Remember going to LA for help or for massive golem rushes?)

You’ll have to settle for recruiting guilds that want a “permanent” new home and server community, but still, once a guild leaves one server, it’s extremely likely they’ll leave again.

HotW butcher path minions still bugged?

Yea, the order depends on the situation.

When a server has forces out, when they basically outnumber the enemy, the best choice is to rush the waypoint because you have forces that can defend it.

When you don’t have a force to defend, your server usually needs more time to respond to a defense event. Having upgraded walls and gates first tend to provide that time over rushing a waypoint.

But also keep in mind that not everyone knows the optimal situational strategy and they may order walls and gates before the waypoint. Then everyone gets mad about it.

Yes, people get mad, but then the strategy gets explained and everyone learns something.

Losing the ability to tailor your upgrades to your situation — a big loss.

It was said that EotM would be a testing ground for WvW. The result: EotM looks exactly the same as at its launch.

Then during the no-white-swords debacle, it was said that new features would be tested in WvW for short amounts of time. The result: no-white-swords ended up being the one and only such test.

Seems like the tower upgrade changes could also be tested for a month in a similar way? Or maybe Anet knows best and testing isn’t necessary? I guess that’s it.

And for the off chance any Anet developer reads this, I think I understand your attitudes a little bit more now. The predominating thought many of you have is that we’re playing the game wrong, or we’re using mechanics the wrong way. That we haven’t figured out how to react to “perceived imbalances”.

This is probably the biggest issue with the game. The devs have an idea of how the game should be played and refuse to accept that players feel differently.

You can see their attempts at forcing players toward their vision. Just look at the new trait system where the devs are basically creating builds for the players as opposed to creating interesting traits and letting players create builds.

What do you think upgrade order should be?

It looks like auto upgrades of towers will have a fixed sequence. Let’s discuss what that sequence should be.

For example which should come first, WP or reinforced walls? When should cannons come? What about the second worker?

It’s all one size fits all now, so think carefully.

Since the video has the account name as well, you’re best-served sending that to exploits@arena.net. It’s pretty blatant, so it should get looked into rather quickly.

Shouldn’t there be an employee actually looking at all the stuff sent to exploits@arena.net even a part time, like 1-2 days a week, in order for any of that to actually have any effects ?

Look at how big a deal it was when one single hacker was banned. Players were gushing all over the dev as if everyone got a free precurser.

That tells you how rare it is.

And what’s worse is that knowing hackers are all over the place leads to more false reports, which makes it even harder to sift through reports for actual hackers (assuming they do that).

TLDR: Anet’s lack of enforcement on hackers makes it even harder to catch them.

These strategic choices are very important, particular if you’re the smaller server in a mismatch (and most matchups are mismatches). The devs have shown they have zero idea how matches go outside of T1 so the upgrade sequence likely not turn out well in a lot of cases.

And whatever happened to the “we’re going to test new ideas in WvW” that they talked about when they removed white swords? Seems they had no intention of doing that at all; it was just talk to mollify the masses after the debacle of announcing the permanent removal of white swords. (Never mind the long-forgotten “EotM is where we’ll test new WvW features.”)

So which upgrades have priority? Sometimes we want a WP before full walls and gates, sometimes after. More choice is better.

In any case I suspect the real reason for this change is that Anet is unwilling to spend any further effort policing griefers and trolls and this removes the ability to supply grief.

As for upgrades progressing without yaks: totally lame.

IMO, in player-vs-player environments, vets and noobs should be on as equal footing as possible (game-mechanics-wise); and so locking Applied fortitude and strength behind tons of WXP was a bad idea.

I’d advocate getting rid of both masteries altogether except for the fact that the vitality disparity between professions is grossly unbalanced.

In any case, WvW is a dying game mode (due to dev neglect rather than unpopularity) that needs new players and giving them a major disadvantage right off the bat is not a good idea.

Now if they’ll just get rid of that ridiculous borderlands bloodlust, that’d be another step in the right direction.

Checking update notes is a terrible way for telling whether something is a bug. There are TONS of stealth changes in every update that are intended and not bugs. That said, this stealth issue is a bug.

IMO, it’s not an exploit and I’m fine with people using it. Kudos to whoever came up with it. On the other hand, I feel the fight was well tweaked in terms of fun, length, and challenge so I never used it myself — pre-Lupine blast crazyness (I don’t run Arah anymore).

Is it bad design? I’d say like an oversight. Bad design would be Lupi’s current autoattack, or Alphard’s inexplicable condi duration reduction.

Should Anet fix it? Ideally yes. But realistically, I fear their cure will be worse than the disease, so no.

Not sure why people wax nostalgic about LS so much. I guess the “bi-weekly” advertisement worked well when in reality it was 4 “bi-weekly” episodes of LS every six months.

If that meagre amount of content was what they were able to produce back when LS was the thing, do you really think they have the resources to put out new content while they are working on an expansion?

Actually I didn’t mean that sarcastically, well the “dot dot dot” part is but that’s more me stuck working in the system and not directed to anyone on the forums.

I have been poking about this fix for a month now or so internally now. Been asking to get someone in here to talk to everyone about this bug and what’s up with it but as of yet no dice. I am doing everything I can to get this resolved or some explanations for you guys.

But yeah, I have some extremely tied hands and poking with my poking stick is about all I can do because I don’t control development or production schedules or design decisions. I do take screenshots of comments and paste them into some internal emails though… And the # of live reports, and the forum links, etc. I can make a huge ruckus when it’s needed, but in general everything I do is behind the scenes and I don’t take credit or spill the beans on what occurred to get it to that point.

While I have all the answers, really I am the next thing to a walking encyclopedia of the GW2 bug DB at any time, I can’t really go around shouting what is happening one way or the other because it can change daily… and letting some things I know be known would probably result in my not working for ArenaNet anymore. That’s something that would be kinda poopy and I would like that not to happen, so I avoid it and instead just say slightly nebulous things like “soon” when I see a fix coming for the next release. One day that “soon” will have some real intent behind it. Today actually seems like a good day to “soon” some threads so…

Also yes, reading and responding on the forums is not actually part of my job. I got to a point where I just really didn’t like how you guys felt ignored in this forum and I’m trying to do something about it. I tend to only post positively and I won’t respond to all threads.

It is a stress test where they need defined conditions. It will not help when hundred of thousands flood the test server. Probably it will be one copy of WvW maps that can be filled with around 1200-1500 players. It will not run long maybe three hours. I guess the main focus will be on the performance issues we currently have. As soon as these are resolved we will face a real beta test over several days or even weeks. A WvW tournament would be a great tool to thoroughly test the new map.

With the crippling lag we see now and map caps of (roughly, Anet won’t say) less than 100 per server, I think it’s safe to say one copy with 1200 – 1500 players won’t work.

I doubt that “grind PvE skill challenges” will take more than an hour to be completed. On top of that – most people already have some of the challenges done, if not all. So you can’t really call that a grind.

Plus there are some skill challenges in WvW as well so I bet those will also be converted to grant hero points.

65 skill challenges. Even if you take 1 minute per skill challenge, that’d take more than an hour. If you are creating a new toon for WvW (or your current toon is all WvW and no map completion), you’d have to open the map as you won’t be able to just WP near the skill challenges. Definitely a grind.

Won’t work at all. You’ll just get people transferring up to the top, or bandwagoning some lower tier server making every server in and around that tier miserable.

The player population has shown that over all, it can’t police itself and fix the population issue. Only Anet can do something, but they don’t appear to care very much.

I do think they should move to monthly content updates when they start the updates again, and not bi weekly. More time to play, and more time for them to develop.

It wasn’t actually bi-weekly: four bi-weekly episodes every six months is not really “bi-weekly.”

If they go monthly, it’d just be two “monthly” updates every six months.

The real problem is their glacial development pace (in every aspect of the game: playable content, balance, bug fixes, etc.)

So how much can you trust reporting when it’s on topics you don’t know much about?

People have been asking for this for 3 years. Don’t hold your breath waiting for it; and in general, don’t use WvW gear.

They could obviously make the gear salvageable such that only upgrades get recovered and you get zero mats; they won’t bother though.

Why do that, when you can simply allow the upgrades you would want, to be purchasable from the same vendor?

I mean upgrades like runes and sigils.
