Tell me people aren’t surprised that Mesmer was the class to attract all the Hipsters?
“Oh my class and build? It’s so underground … you probably haven’t heard of it.”
… I tease :P
……. mostly.
I’m one of those you should hate. Played Mesmer and Ranger at the start but wife took Mesmer so I just stuck with ranger. She eventually gave up on mesmer so I decided to go back to it finally, just before all the changes hit. I can tell a remarkable difference though I can’t decide WHICH VIABLE SPEC TO PLAY!!
It’s an embarrassment of riches.
Considering the wind up time to use it, it makes sense for it to NOT be a bug. Otherwise, whoever unfortunately gets stuck with Mantras in their Elite Spec will just throw them aside.
If things are working now in PVE to allow conditions but they have affected PVP as well, wouldn’t the solution be to beef up players? I’m sure some condition numbers might need to be adjusted (8k ticks on fire, if real, sound gross) but with conditions finally being on par with Zerker, it’s something you probably don’t want to mess with.
Also, I agree with the fact that Zerker should be -= to Sinister, not the other condition armors that have toughness/vitality in them. Maybe a TINY bit higher since there is ramp up time but it shouldn’t be enough to make a huge difference.
Just realized this is in the Mesmer forums. So it probably won’t get seen anyway.
<snappy drum roll>+1 this myself. I don’t even run condition shatter but the point was to be to encourage all mesmer types to shatter. So flip floppy …
Someone’s about to feel silly …
Did Empowering Might keep its ICD compared to the patch notes?
Hundred Blades will be next on the warrior because the golem didn’t move or stop it
Currently planning on 6/6/0/6/0
So not terribly different but enough. I might consider dropping a line for Illusions? The Duelist tree, however, I might actually take DE. I rarely get 3 phantasms alive and with baseline Persona, popping some shatters doesn’t sound bad.
EDIT : Sorry, you said. Meta. I’m rarely aligned fully with the meta so ignore me
(edited by Loxsus.3841)
Could just be missing from the list but;
• Empowering Might: You and nearby allies gain 5 seconds of might when you land a critical hit.
Doesn’t mention anything about the internal cooldown anymore. Would be awesome to have that to help the group out with even a little (WvW especially)
I’m in agreement with Sylvari in Nightmare Court armor on a man, anyway. Screams druid ready.
As someone suggested above, I think this is being done because I think Druids will have a fair bit of cleansing to their names. If this is true, then having THREE trees that give cleansing would be kind of crazy so I imagine A-NET would want to be cautious about that.
Hoping you’re wrong but I don’t care because the image was hilarious.
It probably doesn’t fit but I’m using Sunrise on my Sylvari ranger. I could definitely use the quiver if it didn’t ghost through everything.
the only ranger specs that have withstood the test of time are the condi/regen bunker variants. these will only get stronger with +6 in beastmastery. glassbows are for casuals currently, but with the upcoming trait changes, it might finally become competitive as it only needs a small survivability boost.
frankly im very excited to see what SB + reworked traps will offer us. somehow I doubt spirits and shouts will be effective, but we’ll see.
in short, rangers are becoming less of a mess. what I don’t understand is how they could come up with something as comprehensive and seemingly effective as the DH on their first try, while struggling with the ranger for 3 years.
A big problem people complain about (and often times justly) is the fact our mechanic is a pet that wasn’t exactly first pick at the pound … but we have to love them anyway (even when they’re just standing there, peeing on sylvari for being tree people).
BUT, MAYBE the reason that they got the DH so well done is because they’ve HAD 3 years of never quite getting there with the ranger (and many other classes) that maybe they’ve figured it out. I actually like a lot of the ranger longbow skills, even compared to Guardian’s new LB with both having their good uses. New trait auto giving piercing helps us a lot for some aoe-ish control, for example.
Also, we don’t know the new re-works of our traps/shouts/spirits (I don’t seem them touching much on our signets or survival skills) so as far as we know, we could end up just as good.
I know it gets thrown around a LOT but it’s true; try not to get worked up/angry over what the DH gets when we don’t yet know what WE get (and not just from the Druid)
(edited by Loxsus.3841)
I know he had a carrion amulet but sitting at 21k hp … did they boost the guardians HP up? Checked on live and carrion amulet doesn’t give that much hp YET but I also know they’re supposed to be moving stats around a bit. Either way … that’s a nice buffer.
Love both ideas. Sign me up.
Tell me more! Stuck at work!
We have no idea what the traps DO yet. They could all be holy/divine traps that do crazy kitten like, if it’s stepped on, up to five targets within 600yards are pushed back/knocked down. Or if one person steps on them, they spread burning to any nearby enemies for the next 10 seconds as well as themselves.
What about a trap that turns into a symbol? Or one, once triggered, throws out crazy amount of boons to allies? I think too many people have a narrow focus that these things have to be MUNDANE traps.
Of course, I’m not saying it WON’T be that. I’m just advising to keep an open mind until ANET surprises/disappoints us.
And to be fair to the DragonHunter name … we kind of ARE there to do that so <shrug>
Since there are only 2 main hand weapons to couple with the shield, I think the smart play that we might see is that both the 4th and 5th ability they create will change depending on what main hand weapon you have. That way it adjusts with whatever playstyle you choose.
they can say “every new source of fury” or something.
Maybe but coding wise I’d be curious how it worked. The greatsword has an internal cooldown of like 10seconds but thats its own supply of fury. Same thing with Moa. They might consider scaling back the refresh interval of RaO as the better option. It’s every 3 seconds now I think so maybe every 5 it would pulse?
I don’t think RaO will be refreshing Remorseless. that would be dumb because Remorseless doesn’t have a CD. I don’t think they’ll let it happen.
I don’t see how they stop it without reverting the change on RaO back to it not pulsing. Maybe they’ve already though that out though and factored it into the numbers or maybe they’ll write an exclusion but I can’t think of any boon triggering affect that has an exclusion based on where it comes from.
RaO gives fury every 3s, seems like a great boost with Remorseless.
I will not lie … I totally forgot about RaO with Remorseless. If Greatsword takes over Sword in PVE meta somewhow, I’ll be living the dream. Being able to Maul more often (20% cooldown reduction in the trait) alongside heavier mauls from Remorseless, it might just happen but even if not, if all it does is close the gap, that’ll do
I was a bit disappointed at first with Greatsword. It got shoved into Beastmastery tree and I don’t enjoy the sword so I wanted to stay GS.
However then I noticed it might not be so bad. Sword got another 10% damage buff which makes it look like they’re going to be just THAT much further ahead.
However, GS trait (besides now getting 20% recharge built into it) still does the Fury upkeep, this can go pretty well with Remorseless to keep a steady stream of Opening Strikes. Steady stream of Vuln if the group cant do it plus 25% damage on your next abilities. Problem, is it will USUALLY get wasted in an auto attack but more mauls is nice too.
I’m hopeful the damage disparity doesn’t get worse.
As stated in the release, all we know is that spirits will now be stationary with NO ability to move them. Not sure what this means yet …
They’ve said their being reworked to go along with this but HP, Activateds, and whatever else is in the air. They removed the 70% increase talent to procing so I’m imagining their becoming baseline
Could you guys please for once stop pretending you know more about this than the kittening devs do… They’re doing an AMA tomorrow to clarify questions, for kitten’s sake!
Actually it is crystal clear that we will lose diversity in the way the OP describes, the medi guardian build will be impossible, yes builds will be adapted but there will be inherently less build diversity and less choice.
Not necessarily true until we see the end. And giving us full 9 traits with 3 grandmasters over 7 might open things up more, not shrink them.
We don’t KNOW what it looks like yet. Not saying not to raise concerns because that’s smart. But stating things as crystal clear is not true.
The new system will definitely reduce build diversity for the sake of better
class balancing.Just removing stats from trait lines and moving hem all to
the gear is huge step to this direction.A lot of middle ground hybrid builds
will be lost.
Shouldn’t be. Well in sPVP maybe but everything else, you can choose to put on a piece of soldiers or cleric gear or trinket to fix it.
Gnarled walking staff and norn T3 Chest. Both in game already.
Dang. The only leather top that really shows off the chest on a guy and it goes to the Norn …
The druid posted in the blog https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/specializations-part-two-reward-tracks-and-elite-specializations/
Is that top and staff in the game already or is that for HoT coming out soon?
Cause I want that top more than anything and the staff works too
They just need to fix the pet and this all goes away. Not to bring WoW into this but their PET AI system works out well enough to avoid as much hate as this game gets on their PET buddy. Hopefully they figure this out but judging on history so far … it’s not in their favor.
I acknowledge they’re better then they used to be. But given the number of years so far it’s not flattering.
Some people make points to sPvP which I get. Their lack of health isn’t that big of an issue there.
But for PVE and Dungeons? Those things die to ANYTHING in one hit. Doesn’t even matter if you invest in their life. And guess what? Out of all our utility skills THOSE are the ones that affect the group the most.
They are BANNERS for rangers. It’s what they are and do. As BANNERS, they should NOT have HP pools. Nerf them a bit in use to make up for this if need be but as is, they do not work and are unfair in our use of them compared to what warriors have to go through (or don’t have to)
Except that they are not banners. If you have trouble keeping them alive then untrait spirits unbound when you’re about to attack bosses, place them somewhere safe => profit. They have like 25 seconds cooldown. What’s the big deal? and their buffs are good for what they are. Except maybe on storm spirit. It should do more than just giving swiftness. Making spirits immune to dmg would make them even worse than when spirit rangers were reigning the meta.
Stop raging and take a clever play. My ranger runs spirits all the time in dungeon. And he could almost always keep up the buffs except the usual 10secs downtime between recast.
Aside from their activated abilities, how are they any different from banners? How is frost spirit that different from the power or precision banners? Their activates aren’t really used in dungeons, just the passive and if you don’t KNOW the dungeon and your spirit dies? Well tough. But a warrior can throw down a banner and you’re done.
And as the above stated, yes, all minions of every variety die too easy to all the stupid AOE. Mesmer phantasms suck in this regard in too many fights.

With the coming of Heart of Thorn and all class changes seemingly waiting until then, I found this the best place to put this. I talked about this ages ago and I saw it come up again in the Range Forum.
Ranger Spirits SUCK. The easiest thing to compare them to is to banners as thats basically what they are. Except our banners die to anything unlike real banners. But this is a fair because they can attack enemies … oh wait … nope.
I won’t make this long as this seems a very EASY and COMMON SENSE fix for these things;
1) Make Spirits immune to damage like banners.
2) Preferably remove the Master trait to have them move and tie them the spirits already.
3) In compensation, if need be, tweak (weaken) the passives/actives to make up for these changes. Also like banners, tweak uptime (3/4s of the time up with only maybe one or two activated skills per use of the spirit).
These are great POTENTIAL group utility skills we have that we don’t use. We use Frost Spirit in PvE and we hide it somewhere safe. Warrior banner just gets planted wherever.
Will it make them almost too similar? Maybe but this already exists with shouts and such things through the classes.
It’s been 2 years now with the spirits as is and it doesn’t work.
Hate to be a debbie downer but I don’t see him responding to all of you addressing him. He came in to give a scrap and at most he might pop back in to respond when they actually FINISH it.
Dev communication kind of free falled though not entirely without justification.
RANGERS are BAD.
Everyone knows that.
IT’ s not a learn to play issue. IT’ s a play a useless class issue. Rangers have 0 survival skills. Rangers have no decent F skills. Want to talk about Pets^?? why if my pet dies can t use any F skills?
Rangers compared to other class is simply zero worthy. That’s why it s Always the first target. That’s why it Always dies for first both in pvp and wvw.
That’ s why tons of rangers have quitted the game.
That’ s why even the devs during point of interest they NEVER play RANGER.
(They play warrior ofc )Actually…Ranger has 4 survival skills… ;D
… oh … I see what you did there
We don’t know what we’re even getting in full yet.
Until we do, there really isn’t a point to get worked up.
Get Zen and when they release a list of what IS going to be in the expansion, then we can yell both ways some more (which I will be doing as well depending on how the Druid class mechanic’s pet acts >_> )
My rules on trying to revive players are;
1) If they are downed but not dead and its safe, get them first.
2) If they are dead and its safe, try and res them. If not and they haven’t waypointed yet I’ll try again during phases (like in Teqatl when he runs off between phases).
3) If they die like twice then I usually leave them alone entirely until the whole thing’s over.
I have been yelled at before for reviving people instead of making them run back and that just seems crazy to me. I don’t know what the other person’s situation on the other end of the computer is. Maybe there new or maybe they’re just a kid. Maybe they’re just someone who breaks down when being yelled at in map chat. If they’re not being mean at all about demanding a revive then I try to help usually.
Nothing needs to change in regards to reviving. There doesn’t need to be a reward or penalty for doing it. It’s fine as is. When my little five man gets together for world bosses, if one of us DIES completely then of course our priority is usually trying to help that person up if its safe. I don’t want a bonus for it.
I wish they’d have the courage or whatever it took to temp ban people from the forums who did lash out like children. I can be pessimistic myself but I stop short of calling out devs as being incompetent or whatever else.
I’m tired of official forums having the reputation they do in being cesspools of their game.
All the awesome spirit animal animations with the greatsword just make me giddy every time I go down for a MAUL! Commanding the vines of the earth to reach up and entangle my enemies is thematically rewarding. And fighting in melee with my pets instead of in the back just makes everything gravy.
I’ve been F3’ing it a lot and it makes it manageable even if it is a pain. When the game first came out, the devs were pretty good about communicating, I thought. Things have just gone down hill. I don’t think they even look at class forums now.
To be fair to the AI complaints, Mesmers have it bad too. A lot of their damage is tied into their phantasms, to be fair.
Not sure when it will get fixed but if I had to guess, not for awhile. I think they’re swamped with this expansion and I’m not certain it’ll be til the end of this year that we see it, which probably has all their in house attention just trying to power through it.
I have to hope it brings more group support to the table. Basically I’d like something akin to Shout Guardians where they throw boons to allies while still doing their own work too.
Staff skills I’m excited about too as I would love to have a ranged alternative to the long bow. Judging from the one attack in the trailer, though, I wonder if it won’t be like the Guardian’s staff where the weapon attacks are restricted to 600. I hope not T__T. At least not ALL of them. I see it being very CC/Bleeding with all the vines/thorns. Slows and bleeding.
How the pet is going to work is the thing that scares me though … T_T
the greatsword is in a good place. i would like to see a reduced cooldown on skill number 5 but meh.
Can’t really agree with that, the auto attack damage on GS could definitely use some love.
Yeah I agree. A bit more damage would be nice.
I think warhorn and torch are in good spots, along with off hand dagger and axe.
Basically I like our off hands. They don’t need buffed.
Healing Spring seems good though classifying the heals as a TYPE might be nice like some classes get. Same with Troll Urgent.
Sword doesn’t need to be buffed at all though whether or not to remove the STICKY affect is not something I’ll classify as a buff or nerf to avoid that.
Signet of the Wild for speed is fine as is too, I think. Gives you a reason to use it for a hard hitting maul.
Rampage as One and Entangle are good as well.
Most everything else might need some work.
Rebalancing is the only way, at this point, to go at the ranger if nerfs are involved. As it’s been posted and seen, in WvW and sPvP, rangers are fighting for a reason to be there and generally losing.
Nothing can be taken away from them at this point without compensation (which is true for a lot of classes, to be honest).
Take 10% off rapid fire? Then make volley of arrows instant cast.
… and then fix all our utility traits.
Because, let’s face it, we have ONE complaint right now against us and it’s Rapid Fire and it’s not even a valid complaint. But, as I’ve mentioned before, it DOES make longbow power ranger possibly one of the more easier ENTRY LEVEL classes to play. This doesn’t mean they’re good at it and it doesn’t mean the people they killed were good either.
People don’t want to be proven they’re anything less then good. Egos get hurt or whatever. My ego barely exists. I’d be lucky to hit mediocre but I’m ok with that. I can still handle a fellow Longbow ranger pretty easily (as it’s been said, if you get into melee with them they don’t seem to know what to do. Greatsword is still decent damage with built in evades and ranged blocks
)
Despite what might be thought, just because a few vocal people are shouting I don’t think A-net will give it any credit.
I think that dungeons are pointless unless they don’t allow content skipping and abusing of mechanics like staying in a safe place etc… we don’t need developers to work on more content for dungeon speed runners to skip…
I would personally like these content skipping/stacking “features” to go away as well but I’m not sure how possible that is.
Of course, that being said, there is nothing from stopping groups from doing the dungeons/encounters the way intended. My group does it all the time. In AC runs we don’t stack on Koehler or the end bosses.
Twilight Arbor Forward Path, we don’t rush/skip all the mobs down the long path (though using stealth to get past them is, I feel, a very valid tactic. Stealth should be good for things).
Most of my complaints are with stacking in places which bug out mechanics over stealthing past stuff which I have no issue with.
And all that being said, our guild of just 7 are all dungeoners and we’re all hoping they come through somehow with dungeons or dungeon like situations where it’s a small group of no more then 10 for encounters of stuff. I don’t like big zergs. They are the most boring part of this game. But all the big events recently force you into that kind of stuff. At least the marionette stuck you in small groups of like 6 or so on those platforms. That was a better way to do a zerg encounter, I thought.
But at best I assume we’ll get a few new fractal dungeons which is at least something and no real DUNGEON dungeon. I think otherwise they would have used the word dungeon by now.
So I take it they with the stress test they haven’t introduced new changes in trait lines for existing classes?
Because as a ranger, out utilities kind of suck. We are known for a banner that can die (spirits). That’s about it. Sigils are useful but boring and mostly only affect us (outside of the condition removing one) and our shouts are bad and rarely used. Traps are situational which I suppose is fine for what they are, and survival skills are once again selfish and meh. Lightning reflexes giving vigor to everyone would be nice, for example T_T.
I was really hoping they’d go through the talent trees as well and basically go to TOWN on them to make them all appealing to encourage builds.
From what I hear, what little they’ve shown of Revanant trees are interesting.
To be clear I don’t want this JUST for ranger. All classes need giant talent tree overhauls. But judging from the past and how long people have been shouting for this, I assume it’s not a priority.
EDIT – And also, I’m aware this is just the demo that people are playing but I haven’t heard much talk at all about fixing other classes and really just talking about the new subclass they are getting. The problem is the trees on all classes are mostly BAD. Entire overhauls are needed in a lot of cases.
(edited by Loxsus.3841)
They are not entertaining in the least nor would I care if any of them were dropped into a void and never to be seen again.
Canach has the greatest potential as it’s been a slow thing but technically he’s not on Team Green yet (since I play a sylvari, it’s all Team Green).
The romance between Marjory and Kashmere is, like others have said, hard to watch. It just feel very poorly written. I don’t care which genders in whatever combination are involved in a relationship but if you’re going to present it like it should matter then make us CARE.
The pair, strangely enough, are far more tolerable when apart.
There are plenty of games out there where relationships and NPCs are done very well to make me care about them. A lot of them are Bioware, to be fair, but they don’t have a patent on compelling NPC stories and interactions.
What I want currently, is to add Canach into the fold and have him with me and this sad group of DE 2.0 and make comments the entire time in sympathy to me for what I have to put up with.
I need a plant bro to share my pain.
On that matter, I like Countess Anise (sp?) quite a bit too, actually. She can replace Kashmeer all day on my party.
My ideal party with current NPCs being Canach and Anise with other things filled in. I don’t really care for any of the Asura but Taimi might be able to stay. Revenant Rytlock I’d give a chance to see if he got less cranky down there.
It’s the first stage of a beta…what did you expect?
Exactly what I experienced, confirmation that they will continue to design content while completely forgetting how badly they designed the ranger class mechanic.
Though the work around was kind of surprising.
Please make sure to report such things as anything we have to attack that our pets can’t should be considered bugs, I’d imagine.
For the record they fixed that longbow bug that allow for fury on crit around/less time than this one is/has taken so far.
Advantageous bug (on ranger) apparently must be rooted out quickly, but negatively affecting bug will be fixed some day (maybe).
The necromancer GM trait that was bugged got fixed within 24 hours or so I believe from the patch. So yeah … as much as I want to give slack for all the work they have to do, I really do have to wonder how they dictate their priorities.
There is a Guardian GM trait that hasn’t worked (reportedly) for a couple months that is still not fixed and is completely not working. Maybe they really do have favorite classes heh.
All we can do is sit back and wait on this though.
The bug/change needs to be at least acknowledged.
It has been acknowledged.
WHEN it will get fixed compared to other things is up in there air.
Where?
I wonder what code they touched that messed this up?
