Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
Most of the topics I read here are saying how low expectations are for this release. People are so quick to bash a company that puts time and effort into giving us not only what we want, but doing so much of it for free. I’m not here to say that HoT will be huge in size, because just like all of you I have no freakin clue. I am here to start a thread of realistic views at what may come and to say thank you to Anet. I want to look back to all the times Anet has released something lasting and memorable. Too easy people forget the expansions for GW1 and the continuation of content for that player base. I also like to look back to getting Fractals, Super Adventure Box, and Southsun Cove. I really feel like the same people that say they are soooo disappointed will be squealing like girls the day of release and saying how the hype kept them hopeful. So Anet, thank you for giving me a good reason to play with people online!
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
-The evil red-eyed bunny of BWE
-The hidden garden JP in LA
-Kessex Hills before the tower
-Southsun Cove introduction with the bridges literally being built. I was at the very front most point and jumped to the mainland as soon as I could reach.
-When the endurance bar was above your 1-5 skills
I just miss the feeling of things being new. The BWE were amazing for that new strange game feeling. Now I have every class to 80 and fully geared up.

With the new FP option, I actually can appreciate the differences between the races. I now feel smaller than norn. Also it helps show off the detail they put into so many things in the world including the enemies. I fight in FP sometimes and it helps me noticed the detail in every creature.

So turn it off. There is a default camera option that returns you to your old settings. The new camera is not for everyone. I myself love jumping puzzles and after some trial and error was able to easily complete them in first person view. If all it took was one option to adjust the camera to get you to quit, then maybe you weren’t all that invested.

I played a lot of GW1 and was front of the hype train for GW2.
-I love the painted environment. The ground itself looks hand-painted.
-I love the combat. It’s so smooth and full of action. I’ve played a few other mmo’s and not a single one has come even close to touching my first two points, and those were monthly fee-based!
-I love the attitude of the developers. They actually freakin care.
-I love jumping puzzles and how they are just built into the environment instead of some instanced crap like most other games.
-I love the no leveling curve and the emphasis on skill rather than gear.
-The music. Jeremy Soule, you have rocked my favorite games from Morrowind to GW2.

4 pages of this stuff…yeah I didn’t read much. I finally found a group of people that have a common goal of have fun. I ran a high-level fractal with a squishy crit thief. I went D/D on most bosses and mobs. You wanna know why no one kicked me? I was ressing them and did not down once. When Anet first made GW2 they stressed that you should be able to play how you want. Sure there are ways to focus your build to make things easier, but you still need skill. Make your own freakin build, not some named POS from a forum. Get a feel for how you play and how to make it more effective and become a ninja with that character. I have less than 11k health on my thief and crap for toughness, bring it on.

Heh, that was my complaint back in GW1 too. For end-game content, Assassins basically only had “Shadow Form/Sliver Armor tank” as their sole meta-role. That meant that I couldn’t get into any groups with my dagger-stabber Sin. I made an Assassin to stab things, not be a tank!
Yuuuup, GW2 was made to get players away from putting classes into certain roles. If everyone learned to play their character without relying on someone else, we would be better off.

I’ll throw my input into the mystic toilet that is this thread. I personally like the overall idea of the new dailies with exception to the area-specific events. It’s hard enough for me to catch events with a herd of others, and I’m freakin fast! I can’t imagine the let down it must be for new players to find that they can’t keep up with the events. It also takes much away from the experience of doing these events when you make it on time. Taking the challenge from keeping this NPC alive to get one hit on the first red thing you see. Please make the new events daily a region based thing such as Kryta events. I like fractals being on the list, but I feel that it is unfair to have specific level requirements on them such as 10-15. Not everyone can do that. I feel like these changes take away options when the game is meant to let players choose how to play. Takes the point away.

Because no one ever wants those in this dungeon.
I actually hate thieves in CM. SR and autoattack is all they have. That and 90% of the runs someone fails a skip so they have to go back.
Nothing enrages me more than casting fire fields and not having them blasted by one of the best stacking classes in the game. Then getting hit by projectiles after my swirling winds is done. should hear my screams on mumble.
This is why I don’t stack or skip. I play a thief to kill things, not to run away.

Obviously I have not been reading every response in here. I think the best thing to remember when wanting someone to do something different with their character for the good of the run, ask politely. I get so mad when players rely on a mesmer to portal instead of just doing things the way they were meant to be done or ask someone to basically switch their build so they don’t have to do as much. I have been much more willing to try something someone else’s way when they explained why it worked and asked me if I would be willing to switch a few things for that moment. The other side of that coin is also nasty. I was recently in a party in which I had the most achievement points by about 6k. We were rocking until something glitched and we were stuck. A few party members immediately gave me a hard time saying crap like, “and you have more AP, not fair”. I love being in parties that don’t need to talk but mow everything down. Proudly a humble elitist.

I just built one myself actually. I don’t think it would be wasted seeing that they are only taking might back from 35 to 30.

I hop online to catch an event like the great jungle wurm and completely miss it due to loading times. I can understand it taking longer with all the players, but 5-7 minutes seems a bit much. I have stupid fast internet and a very nice gaming pc. Any suggestions?
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
Hopefully this one is added even way down the road. Individually whispering to friends that I know won’t skip in dungeons can be annoying.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
Whenever we post lfgs for specifics we also experience this. It isn’t fun, sure, and I know I get a group that adheres to my high standards of fashion rarely (joke harhar) if ever. We understand where you’re coming from in terms of the lfg. But the issue is, we all have our playing preferences and in group play we all often have to make compromise and go for the path of least resistance. [/quote]
My guardian may adhere to your fashion standards ;D I realize that there may be no absolute solution to this problem. It unfortunately is hardwired into today’s society. Maybe having something like an extra option for the LFG tool that includes no skipping as a check box much like the language option they have added.

@Dalanor
When I get things like gear and exp from killing or running dungeons it is usually so I can improve on my character and kill things faster and more efficiently. What is the point of improving faster if you never get to test the results? I play this game to have fun. The combat is like no other game out there, so why is it bad that I want to enjoy that? I am also the type of person that enjoys a challenge. The way I see it the devs put a challenge in front of me (events in the dungeon) and it would be weak of me to simply go around it.

Quoting from a chat once, “sorry, forgot about my utilities”. Also I am unable to see any responses to my previous posting regarding this topic. I can find where I posted it, but no responses show.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
robertul, it is players like you that make me cringe. To those that suggested making my own group do you really believe I would be posting here had I not gotten fed up of making group after group only to have them fall apart because some dink decided that skipping is the only way they can play? I can maybe MAYBE get one or two group a month that wont skip, and it usually involves noobs.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
I add lots of people to my friends list when we run dungeons or they are simply cool people. Often when I add them, I intend on inviting them into runs with me. Something I would like to see in the near future is a chat option for all friends that are active online. This way you could check your list for party members without individually whispering and responding to each one.

This has probably been posted and discussed to it’s bitter end, but I haven’t read it! I love running dungeons. I love the scenery, teamwork, and most of all the FIGHTING. I start groups for something as simple as CoF Path 1 and look for people that won’t skip content. I am horrified by how many players don’t know how not to skip over content. They don’t know what it’s like to actually play the dungeon instead of running past hordes of enemies to “save time”. Too often in Twilight Arbor will parties skip over the first few waves only to wipe later on. Afterwords they are then trying to run past lot’s of knockdown and frustration that could have been easily avoided. This would not be such a hot topic for me if players did not get personally offended by me wanting to actually play the game and kill a few enemies. Is there any solution for this?
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
WOOO That worked, thank you!!

I have tried closing and re-opening the gem store and re-logging as well. The game client has since had updates and I have played on my PC and Mac without being able to load any window but the main one. I finally have some gems to spend and now it will not load. Please help!
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
After spending way too much gold and time getting thousands of chests and only getting one ticket, I feel like this would be a good solution.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
What if you could trade the tons of candy you have in your inventory for jade weapon tickets? This may have already been talked about but I thought I would start something that may get noticed and acted upon. I would be totally willing to trade like 2,000 candies for a single ticket. This would greatly help the problem of people not getting tickets from the chests. Please consider making this happen.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
so from reading most of the posts I see that many people got a ticket within 50 chests. I opened about 3 thousand chests and just got one ticket from the last 10 that I bought. I farmed most of the chests. What I would like to see is the availability to trade the candy for tickets. Even if they cost like 2,000 candies for one, I would be fine with that.

Oh dear God yes, I was just looking for this. I really want to run around LA spamming this
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
Today I was playing on my warrior and I realized something. When I play on my thief or ranger hardly anything knocks me back or down. On my warrior however every enemy I fight knocks me down or back. I got knocked down by a cave bat when I had stability activated. Another thing that was bugging me was that the vengeance skill (I think that’s the name) that allows you to get back up when downed only works when the planets are aligned. I downed more times than I can count and it has not let me stay up even once. Is there any chance of having the percent chance of staying up increased upon killing something? I got up and slaughtered at least four bats with my great sword and fell again. This happened many times to the point where I don’t feel like playing that character anymore.
Beta, remembering the good ol’ days
I find too often that groups I join for runs want to skip content to go through the dungeon faster. Many of the Twilight Arbor runs I have been on have ended in total wipes because they skipped the beginning with the hounds and the huge tree things and were unable to return through that path. My main question is: why skip fights/content to get gear faster that will only help you to skip more later? All sides of the argument are welcome!
