Very nice of you to do this. Shame your plan didn’t work out. Might aswell try my luck.

What about those poor players who need T6 mats to craft/create a certain item they are looking for?
There are already plenty of items with high demand that players can sell to make money. Orichalcum can make you around 1g a day.
Most lvl80 rares can be bought for ~25s. This proposed method would cost around 1g. You do the math.
Doesn’t matter if Anet planned for crafting to be profitable or not. If it was, thousands of players would have flocked to it, dramatically increased the supply of crafted items and prices would have falled to the point that they are not profitable anymore anyway and we’d be right back to where we are now.
Seems like all you want is for T6 materials to go up in price. What benefit does that have on the playerbase?
Raiz.7402I am not a statistician so I can’t fully comment, but I am certain that your formula for calculation is wrong. There is no cumulative chance of success based on the number tries. I believe we might need a Normal Distribution curve to calculate the chance.
Again, I am not a statistician so I might be totally wrong on the right statistic formula, I hope a statistician can compile this data and give us a more valid chance as well as graphs.
Well, since each attempt has the same chance and any previous attempts don’t have an affect on the outcome, I guessed that a geometric distribution would be the best. I’m not a statistician either so it would be great if any of them could chime in and give us some accurate numbers.
I’m not surprised your friend didn’t get a precursor. From what I’ve read on this forum and on guru, the chance seems to be 0.2% from rares and 1% from exotics. This means 500 attempts (2000 rares) or 100 attempts (400 exotics) depending on which route you take to guarantee that you get one precursor.
Your friend put in 300 rares (75 attempts) and 200 exotics (50 attempts). So really, he only gave himself a 15% chance to get a precursor when he combined his rares and a 50% chance of getting it when combining his exotics. So overall, he only had a 65% chance of getting a precursor. Maybe a little more if the weapons he got out of it were used for further attempts.
I hope my math is correct.
The entitlement in this thread is strong. It’s funny that people are talking as if transparency from Anet is their god given right. It is a privelege. Be happy that Anet is actually communicating to us in some way.
Jon’s explanation is completely valid and understandable. I’m happy the DR system is in the game but obviously it just needs some tweaking. It will take some time, programming and testing is a lot harder than most people think it is. People just assume that all they gotta do is change some numbers and while that may be true in some cases, it’s almost always more complicated.
While Anet sorts out the DR system, it should remain in the game in its current state until the tweaks can be rolled out. Why? Because this game is full of exploits. We’ve already heard of multiple exploits in this game and it would be foolish to think there were none left. I’m positive that there are other known exploits in this game that haven’t been made public. Some of these exploits might already have been severely hindered by the DR system. If Anet removed the DR system until the fully completed one can be rolled out, what will stop these exploits?? GW1 has shown that exploits can and will destroy the games economy (more than it already is).
There is one change that I think needs to be made to the DR system and that is that karma shouldn’t be affected. Everything related to karma cannot be sold so there’s no reason why it should be affected.
Either way, the DR system should have been in the game since day one. One month without it has allowed a number of players to a-mass an incredible amount of money, giving them the power to control certain aspects of the market.
Something that requires that much effort shouldn’t be a wait and see affair… You really should know exactly what you are working your kitten off for before hand.
You will, there are plenty of people just waiting for the balthazar temple bug to be fixed and they’ll have their legendaries created. They will certainly be quick to show them off aswell.
Well, we don’t even know what the particle effects are like for most of the legendaries. Wait and see, they could be better than you expect.
The problem is that the mobs are all bunched up together as they come in. Spread them out, give them multiple paths and make them scatter when under AoE damage. The risen are also seriously lacking their own specific mob mechanic to actually make them a challenge to kill. Something like the soul explosions for the Afflicted (during the Winds of Change) or even the environmental effects in the Real of Torment in GW1.
The NPC got fed up with how long it took for him to get rezzed, he decided to leave town. Literally.
