I’m not okay with the most famous guild that was formed to slay Elder Dragons not bring present for a meeting about slaying an Elder Dragon.
Destiny’s Edge is disbanded? Why would members of a disbanded guild who now have other responsibilities come to a summit which already have attendees that are experienced with dragons.
The can feel the entitlement in this thread.
Everyone has the opportunity to get the new armor. Want it? Win the tournament.
Think of the armor like gold trim capes in gw1.
on the other, i feel like the backlash of another soft retcon will have the entire lore community up in arms and demanding bobby’s head on a stake. plus, it would beg the question “why the hell didn’t rytlock do this years ago?” he knew magdaer was there, he knew the prophecy, and he had sohothin with him for as long as we remember. i hope, albeit without much faith, that they’ll tackle this.
Don’t forget, only one of the swords is needed to undo the curse, according to the legend as stated in the Movement of the World.
“Some believe that one day, when the rightful king of Ascalon returns with one of the two flaming swords”
It’s actually an odachi.
Ghosts will only go away within the living story if the speculation turns out to be true and happens. Everything else will remain the same. Zhaitan died, and the corruption lifted, but you still see risen all over the place.
That’s different. The risen weren’t being kept alive by a curse or anything. Once the curse is lifted, every ascalonian ghost goes poof.
We actually fight two of them in GW1 so yes they are real.
Cue for the lore folks of why the game is actually named Guild Wars….hint, its not because player made guilds warred. It’s cool, I’m sure someone would love to explain it again.
The lore was created to give ingame context to GvG. Do you think when Anet was developing gw1, they named it after lore that was not even mentioned during the story campaign? When promoting gw1, did they use this piece of lore or the pvp format which was the focal point of the entire game? Hmmmm
Anet is known for creating flavour lore to explain the existence of key features. Like waypoints for example.
Mounts make sense for WvW.
…just saying.
No it does not. The WvW maps are small and you have obviously not thought about the negative impacts it would have on the map dynamics.
Humanity gets looked over even in their greatest nation (Orr) where they could have had the biggest lore impact
Well, the playerbase obviously doesn’t want Humanity lore, I mean look at the Kiel/Evon debacle, players chose Asura lore over Human lore. The playerbase has spoken and ANet has run with it. Thanks a lot Kiel supporters….. grumble grumble
It’s cute that you still think the election results weren’t predetermined
Why does the tree in the cut scene have to be The Pale Tree?
If stop and think how ridiculously overpowered regeneration would be if it stacked in intensity, you’d know why it stacks only in duration.
Well, we first find out about the Eternal Alchemy 250 years ago during Eye of the North. If so much about the gods/bloodstones were deemed myths then surely everything about the Eternal Alchemy isn’t going to be 100% true. There’s no reason to believe that the Asura are all knowing.
Back in the days it was common knowledge and a fact that the Earth was flat
No it was not.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_of_the_Flat_Earth
The build diversity is the same in both games.
GW1 had more skills, sure, but the majority were underpowered and never even used in the first place.
GW2 has less skills, but makes up for it with traits and expanded gear compared to gw1. If two builds used the same skills/utilities but had different traits/gear, those two builds would be played very differently.Additionally, gw1 and gw2 were made by completely different people. Don’t let the ArenaNet name fool you. Almost everyone who set the foundations of GW1 had left the company by the time GW2 got into the picture.
Uhm, no. In GW I could choose to use my pet or not, choose to run traps or not, I could even choose which skills I used to DPS. GW was waaaaay more diverse in builds than GW2, and that’s just Ranger. Each profession had 5-10 builds they could run and still do well(even in HA/TA/RA). Yes there were “prefered” builds for PvP but you still had 3-4x the builds you could choose from.
In gw2 I can choose to run traps or not. I can choose to use signets or not. I can choose which weapon I wanna dps with. I can choose if I wanna be bunker/tanky, glass cannon power spec or condition spec and that’s just with ranger too.
The differences between gw1 builds were more obvious since the skills were different. The difference between gw2 builds are more subtle since they are based on traits and gear.
Even with this apparent diversity in gw1, you were pigeon-holed into using a select 2-3 builds which were the flavours of the month. In pve, warriors were always 100b. Monks either UA or HB. In gvg, there were only two viable monk support builds and that was after the boonprot nerf (when there was only 1 viable build). That’s right. For over 6 years, gvg monks only had two builds to choose from, with minor adjustments along the way.
Sure you can say, “oh I made this awesome Decapitate (an atrocity of a skill) axe build! It’s completely original. Yay build diversity!” but are you going to get into a dungeon/elite zone group with that build? No. Would you get into a pvp team with it? Definitely not.
The amount of diversity is determined by the number of viable builds. Viable meaning you are efficient in your role and will be a valuable asset to your team, rather than a detriment. In this case, the number of viable builds in gw1 was no more than the number of viable builds in gw2.
Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely adore the gw1 skill and combat system. I love it more than what we have for gw2, but I’m not blinded from the reality that the game was.
GW1 gave you the illusion of variety. Rose-tinted glasses helps maintain that illusion.

The build is perfectly fine. You can make up for the reduced armor/hp by better positioning and awareness on the battlefield.
don’t come back
That ele knows what it’s doing (well geared, smart skill usage and movement)
Those 8-10 people were probably upscaled, poorly geared, not paying attention or just plain bad
We were in the Maguuma Jungle…
Obviously we would run into the Pale Tree(who lives in the Maguuma Jungle) and be able to access her inner workings/mind.
If we entered from Ascalon we would most likely run into Adelbern and get influenced by Foefire….
The Pale Tree is not in the Maguuma Jungle. It’s in the Tarnished Coast.
Yea.. because this episodes required soooo much effort, right?
Everything was easy mode. Why should we be rewarded for face rolling our keyboard?
I hated Cantha first time round….but…the potential to see Kaineng in all its glory in GW2 could be something special. The Jade Sea in the fractals looked awful though…so I could (sadly) leave that.
In GW1, we got hints that the Jade Sea and the Echovald Forest were showing signs of melting/reviving. If we ever get to see those areas, I really wish them to not be solidified.
You should read this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Jade-Sea-status-still-frozen
Maguuma Jungle
Southern Shiverpeaks (what is now the Deldrimor Front)
Oh and of course Cantha
Monsters aggro onto the guy with the highest armor/toughness. Tried and tested since launch.
GUILD WARS HAS NO LORE.
Unless we’ve built content around something, it’s usually considered malleable from a design and lore standpoint. Occasionally we decide to go in a different direction months or years after the first ideas are documented or even talked about externally. In some cases that means what one member of staff says in an interview can change when it comes time to building a release. It’s part of our iterative process.
In short, go by what’s in the game.
We were outright told that Abaddon was truly dead… in an interview.
We found out Livia was still alive… in a book.
All of Cantha’s history comes from… here
So basically, everything we know about the lore in this game is not sacred. We can’t even trust in game lore because the NPC could be lying or speaking out off his kitten . Our only source of accurate lore was through these external sources, and now those aren’t true either. What’s the point of even having a story?
Example: Ree Soesbee herself said that the Seconborn were born 6-7 years after the Firstborn. Now they’ve changed it and they didn’t even tell us.
We’ve known for quite some time from previous NCSoft reports that an expansion was coming some time in 2015. I guess this is why Anet is going to Gamescom this year; to officially announce it.
Yeah, Evennia’s death is an unsolved mystery to be sure, but don’t think we’ll find out anything about it during Season 2. Although she was Shining Blade, I think her disappearance was probably more involved in the plot surrounding the founding of Ebonhawke.
Yea , that was pretty much what most people assumed since the founding of Ebonhawke was one of the plot lines anet wanted to explore in GW Beyond.
Abaddon is dead. period.
Kormir runs the realm of torment now.
(edited by Mada.5319)
She went missing and that’s all we know. We don’t know why. We don’t know how. We don’t know what happened. All we know is that she was last seen in Old Ascalon.
At that point, Anet still had plans to continue on with GW Beyond and her disappearance was probably a teaser to help lead into the next GW Beyond content. But then Linsey left and John Stumme came in and they changed their direction and did WoC instead. As we all know, Anet stopped all development for GW1 after WoC.
megaservers
15 chars
you are expecting way too much
From the looks of it, we’ll be first going to what used to be Silverwood and Mamnoon Lagoon. Silverwood connects to Bloodstone Fen :o
Huge welcome to all our new friends:
INC, Bags, DI, LEXS, Wake
FA wants you!
I can tell it’s Kudzu………..
Are you and oceanic/sea guild that:
1)Is bored of pvdooring in the lower tiers and unable to find regular fights with other organized groups?
2)Has to shoulder all the burden during those time slots with no one to work with?
3)Wants to fight against other oceanics/sea guilds but find yourself facing blobs most of the time?
4)Wants to be on a server with a whole bunch of other oceanic/sea players to make friends and do wvw with?
If your guild said ‘yes’ to any of the above, then Fort Aspenwood is your dream come true.
“all you need is an organized group” + “open world event” + “megaserver” = “epic fail”. especially when there is no way to select a proper instance by yourself.
I fail to see how this is a problem with the actual event itself. This is an issue regarding the megaservers, not the event. Even then, it’s easy enough to find an empty instance and taxi your people in.
Triple Trouble is mindlessly easy lol…………..
all you need is an organized group, which was anet’s intent in the first place.
The code is a tangled mess because Anet decided to make everything from the ground up.
Which can lead to better results in years to come.
If you played gw1 you’ll know that’s just not true. GW1 was made from the ground up as well but every update degraded the performance of the client.
FA has a couple of oceanic guilds that do wvw and guild missions during that time (GWAM, PRO, DPS and possibly others).

http://theprotectorateofaspenwood.shivtr.com/
It was called Challenge Missions, not Competitive. Competitive Missions were FA and JQ (pvp). They should bring that back too
You are on one of the highest populated servers in NA. You are not trying hard enough. LFG Tool is game-wide, not server specific.
Look at the buy orders. Definitely not overpriced if the demand is that high.
Earn more gold. That’s the only solution you have, or will be offered.
Sorry, farming is not allowed in gw2.
Oh I’m sorry. Please excuse me while I open the mountains of champ boxes I have and sell the sheer amount of rares that are overflowing my bags.
Also, what should I do with the 5g+ I make from doing wvw in one day?
Bump for an awesome community with great organization, commanders and guilds.
For example, once you get into kryta and the Ascalon settlement is set up (talking purely missions for this part), Ascalon basically is left out of the story entirely. The player acts almost like a roaming merc then a hero of Ascalon, and bar a few npcs showing up again later on… it’s not really mentioned at all.
That’s because nothing changes in Ascalon while you’re in Kryta. Made sense to me. Remember, it was two years after the searing when Rurik left for Kryta.
I still see people with stacked auras. Seen stacked howler, sunrise, quip and even the new eternity. Still trying to figure out how >.<

Since launch the server time option for the in game clock would coincide with the pst/pdt time in the west coast of the USA (which is where there servers were located).
Right now it is 10:35pm pacific time yet the ingame clock is showing 5:35am. So the servers have been moved to the middle of the Atlantic?
Is this a bug?
Divinity’s Reach and Rata Sum were bigger hotspots imo.
Anet made decent loot appear so rarely that players became akin to starving people, desperately gorging on champion boxes in the faint hope that something appeared in them. The champ train was a symptom of player “reward starvation” and a large amount of learned helplessness. Why do complex events like tequatl and 3 headed wurm when those give next to nothing in return. Far better to simply run round in a boring circle while watching tv and to collect a hundred champ boxes in the hope of something by raw force of numbers.
GW2 is built around giving nothing and taking all our time and the culmination of this is events like the new queens gauntlet, which are the perfection of this punishing philosophy.
We learned that the mystic forge hates us. We learned that RNG hates us, but now we don’t event get drops in our events for the rng to happen in.
The game hates us – that’s how I feel at the moment and I don’t understand how it can have come to this. I want to play, but its as if I am being told to go play something else – why is this?
No, what anet has done is allowed the mindless, repetitive farming of champs to go on for so long that people have become reliant on such a broken system and have started to believe that what they were doing deserved rewards.
It seems evident that you do not even do Teq or Wurm. Teq/Wurm and Karka get completed within 15 minutes by a coordinated group and you’ll be swimming in rares and loot chests if you made the effort to get organized.
Their “Live Team” being referenced there was not a Living World team but rather akin to GW1’s live team – that they’d be maintaining and on occasion adding content. They scrapped this after release, and made 4 Living World teams instead, with constant mentions of “there is no expansion on the table presently, we’re wanting to give expansions via Living World” (not verbatim).
Unless Ree and Jeff are working on Season 2, or perhaps even Season 3 (woah now! let’s not get ahead of ourselves), I am finding it hard to figure out what they could be working on with all the constant mentions of “no expansion” – despite how much I would love an expansion.
I’m pretty sure the 4 living world teams are sub-teams within the Live Team. It was also mentioned by NCSoft in some investors call or something similar that an expansion was in the works for 2015.
It’s not just Ree and Jeff that we haven’t heard from. We have also heard nothing from Eric Flannum, the GW2 Lead Designer. Anet also has too many artists for just the living world stuff. Put two and two together and it’s kinda obvious what’s being worked on…..
