The betrayal was wiping out the seer race. Which the tablets make no mention of. The fleeing the world came after the betrayal.

If it was merely a case of “the victors write the history” case, then the tablets would be talking about righteous retribution against those who would steal their magic and cower with it all. It wouldn’t say the seers wiped themselves out.

The betrayal was not agreeing to give their magic to the seers to be sealed in the bloodstone, and then fleeing. They fought the seers after they came back.

I see nothing overtly wrong with the tablets. Remember, they’re written in the perspective of the mursaat so we aren’t supposed to take it as gospel. From my understanding, the 5 ancient races handled the elder dragon rise differently. The jotun/dwarves hid. The seers tried to store magic and the mursaat/forgotten allied with each other. The mursaat and forgotten attacked Zhaitan but failed. Some time after that the seers must have approached the other races and proposed they all store their magic in the bloodstone. The mursaat didn’t want to so abandoned the other races and slipped out of phase with Tyria (the betrayal). Sometime before or after that, the forgotten had freed Glint and she sheltered the four remaining races from the dragons until they went back to sleep.

The part where it says “The Seers set about sharing their stored magic with the world, though society had devolved into divided, violent tribes. Wars broke out over control of the magic pool” doesn’t say at all that these wars were between Seers. It may even be talking about the wars that lead King Doric to go to Arah to get the gods to reseal the magic in the bloodstones.

  1. Most important thing to keep in mind is that the risen didn’t just drop dead after Zhaitan’s defeat. They continued to wander Orr and elsewhere, remaining as active as ever before. So Zhaitan’s defeat wouldn’t mean Elona’s northern border suddenly freed up – it just meant that the risen there would no longer get reinforcements.

What actual evidence do you have for this?

When Rata Novus fell.

Overall I liked the story and looking forward to the next living world season!

I liked Rata Novus but it was a complete waste and super anti climatic to just find out that dragons have a “weakness”. Couldn’t we have learned about the dream thing there? Would have meant a lot more.

Exalted were made specifically to combat the dragons right? Where were they? They just stayed in their city and that’s it.

Where the hell is E?

The egg was made out to be some super important thing but once we gave it to the exalted it became a distant memory. Why did we just hand it over to the exalted anyway? We don’t even know them and we suddenly trust them with the egg? And what about the dozen or so other eggs and baby dragon we know are out there as well? What’s so special about that one egg? Hope these questions get answered in the living world.

Have you guys forgotten about the Altar of Glaust? I hope not.

Please Don't Invalidate My Class (Again)

Mada.5319

Ok, here we go. The new Revenant looks, well, amazing. I mean, dual-wielding swords with jade daggers that stab people as a healing spell awesome. This class seems totally prepared to dominate.

In fact… I hate to say it, but it might be too awesome.

I remember not too long ago, when I was playing Guild Wars 1. I ran a Warrior. Beefcake, sword and board at the ready, loaded up on Strength and ready to Hundred Blades any opponent into oblivion. But then came Nightfall. Then, came the Dervish.

Since that day, in Guild Wars 1, there has been no reason whatsoever to play a Warrior.
Damage? Dervish.
Tanking? Dervish.
Single-Target? Dervish.
Multi-Target? Especially Dervish.
More energy? Oh yeah, Dervish.
PVE kings? Dervish again.
PVP usability? What? Oh, Dervish.
Knock knock, who’s there? Dervish.
The only disadvantage to playing those sun-baked special snowflakes was having to fight in a dress.

The Warrior class lost not just its identity, but its usefulness. It’s not that there was a player preference to pick a Derv, it’s that there were clear gameplay advantages to picking a Derv without balancing factors. Ok, so their armor score wasn’t as high, but come on, you built the game with a meta that specifically drove away from tanking anyway, and decided to go for dps race / heals as the only factor.

So now, it’s 2015. I’m playing a Warrior. Again. In a meta without tanking. Again. And dang does this Revenant guy look awesome. I just hope he’s not too awesome.

How much GW1 did you really play? Because warriors got into parties for elite zones and dungeons. Dervs didn’t. Hardly an invalidation.

Mada.5319

Uhhh Riven Earth is already in the game. The bottom half of Metrica Province is Riven Earth.

The area between Rata Sum and The Grove is called Alcazia Tangle.

The bottom slice of Metrica Province could be the top of Guild Wars’s Riven Earth…. but all of Riven Earth is certainly not the bottom half of Metrica.

It almost certainly extends east from the New Rata Sum

Those two red circles aren’t the same thing.
Here is the gw2 map and gw1 map overlaid over each other: http://thatshaman.blogspot.co.nz/p/historical-guide.html

Notice the river running diagonally from top left to bottom right?

That map is anomalous at best. …and all It does it prove that the maps don’t match up exactly unless altered and stretched or details are ignored.

Alcazia would be the bottom most part of the area we would potentially get as an explorable zone…. and it would be more than half under water.

There’s also no reason why both those zones gw1 zones couldn’t comprise one gw2 map like Kessex peak + Tears of the Fallen etc. = Kessex Hills

If that makes you feel better, sure.

I’m still confused. Can you explain these:

If the Enchanted are just servants/constructs of the forgotten, how can they be exalted?

In the 1st HoT trailer we see that these ruins aren’t actually golden/gilded, the exalted thing casted some spell and turned it gold.

The Hall of Ascension/Hall of Heroes isn’t just golden/gilded. There was a lot of blue and grey as well as green.

The Enchanted don’t levitate or glow.

Enchanted weren’t spellcasters.

Tendril things coming out the back.

Is there an ingame source that says the Enchanted mimicked the mursaat? I haven’t been able to find any. All I’ve found is a wiki page that says there’s a resemblance without citing a source (other than mursaat and enchanted having no relation) so it’s just the editor’s opinion. Then there’s the note about the Tower Golem.
But other than the horn feature they share on their helms (and even those aren’t the same), all three look nothing alike.

“we have some really cool plans for the Mursaat but unfortunately I was told to tell you guys that you’ll have to wait until GW2 to find them” – Linsey Murdock, October 2007
source: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_talk:Linsey_Murdock/Lore1#Asura_and_Mursaat

The official HoT trailer showed three Exalted Ones with obvious colour variation. So surely the gold glow of the Rock Dog should be completely unrelated? Not to mention Rock Dogs have no relation to enchanted/forgotten/mursaat/golden cities.

GW1 Expansions Vs HOT

Mada.5319

We don’t know anything about HoT yet. Comparisons can’t really be made until after it releases.

Don’t forget that those 41 “new” armor sets from EotN were all just re-skins of older armor.

Only thing we can compare is the price. EotN was $40 and came with a bunch of bonuses (but no new character slot) while HoT is $50 with no bonuses.

So HoT better be bigger than EotN.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.

One of the first things they teach us in economics is that there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
If a restaurant offers lunch for free, then more than likely they’ve raised the price of their drinks.

So even though Anet is offering the core game for free, it is more than likely that the price of the expansion was raised as a result.

Nice try.

You should actually read my entire post. I addressed all of that. Yes, player characters could make use of secondary professions and NPCs could as well, but in the lore typically what counted was only any NPCs primary profession and Thackeray straight up changed his, something I think nearly no one else could do.

I’m also not suggesting a name change to Paragon as I agree it would make no sense now. My point was just that ANet COULD have made the Elite spec Paragon in a way that made sense.

You are trying to say that just because one GW1 NPC changed his profession from one associated with bows to one associated with spears somehow means that a GW2 profession unrelated to spears changing to one with a bow can be called a Paragon.

Do you see how your argument falls a part here? If anything, your argument supports the Guardian’s elite spec being called something related to rangers, which is exactly what Anet did anyway.

Also, in what way was the Paragon important to the development of guardians? Many of the guardian’s skills are old gw1 monk and warrior skills. Stand Your Ground is the only old paragon skill.

Paragon makes no sense. The guardian elite spec doesn’t have chants, echos or use spears. Paragons are also from Elona.

TL;DR: An important NPC Paragon DID use a longbow in GW1.

Irrelevant. All professions in GW1 could use all weapons.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to realism and such: The game world does not necessarily move as fast as the real world.

We actually know for a fact that the attack on Lion’s Arch was more or less over and won within a day or two, and yet in real world time the attack took place for weeks.
It is also rather unlikely that the time between the Breachmaker and the current events are several months, but rather a few weeks at most.

No. They changed the calendar to be in line with the real world so it was indeed two weeks for the attack/retake of LA. Anet shot themselves in the foot with the calendar changes, let them live with the consequences.

Mada.5319

The only feedback I have is pretty plain – please stop trying to connect so many things to GW1.

Players new to the series with GW2 won’t know the difference between ‘new’ history and the revision of ‘old’ history, and players who put a lot of time into GW1 don’t always see these historical retcons as a good thing.

The story is very hard to enjoy when every time you stop to read something, you run into something that contradicts previously established lore.

Tying things with gw1 is why this patch has been so well received. Both games took place in the same universe, ignoring gw1 would not only betray anet’s most loyal customers but also make no sense whatsoever lore-wise. If you didn’t play gw1, there are so many resources out there for you to catch up (besides buying the game and playing it yourself).

However, yes it is extremely important that anet doesn’t botch up the lore. I think they now know how important the lore is to their players, after the fiasco over the calendar change.

No more ritualists

Scott McGough: The alternate magical energy employed by ritualists has fallen out of general usage, as illustrated by the absence of ritualists in Guild Wars 2. The techniques ritualists used for casting spells are still valid, but in the 250 years since Guild Wars, Tyria has learned and mastered more efficient ways of casting spells. It’s analogous to telegraph technology—it still functions and it still does the job of communicating across long distances, but in modern times there are newer, better ways to communicate so the old ways are effectively defunct.

Really? Because I should point out I have tried many . . . many times to earn skins I wanted in GW1 and still remain without them unless I choose to drop some ectos (not plat, ectos).

Not counting Tormented, mind you. I’ve never gotten myself any of the following:

Froggy Scepter
Icy Dragon Sword
Vampiric Dragon Sword
Celestial Weapons
Amythest Aegis
Draconic Aegis
Mursaat Hornbow (the drop)

I also never got a Fiery Gladius OR Fiery Dragon Sword of good quality so Koss could swing one around.

You misunderstood his post. He is saying that in gw1 you knew where to farm for something if you wanted it. The RNG still existed just like in gw2 today.

The ability to buy/sell the items is what made the gw1 system better imo.

Spoilers for The Dragons Reach Pt. 2 below!

I think I should bring back this thread in regards to what happened at the Summit meeting instance.

At the beginning, you see and can talk to Caithe after her very long & quiet absence.

After the meeting gets sabotaged by Mordremoth… She is absolutely nowhere to be seen. Which is odd considering she is probably one of the most loyal sylvari to her mother (as far as we know).

Later when you talk to Trahearne, he suggests the possibility that someone may have ‘lured’ the dragon to the meeting, because it was just so well timed. Could this have been her secret..? Or a small part of what’s to come?

Thoughts?

She was nowhere to be seen because you killed the Modrem she was attacking first, so she left. If you left her Modrem alive and dealt with the ones attacking the other npcs, she would have been there till the very end.
