Please post a video of doing AC with lvl 35 players in blue gear, not greens or yellows, blues.

Then I might CARE about what you have to say.

Why blues? Players at level 35 have the ability to craft green and yellow gear. Why are you purposely gimping your party?

Calling Experienced Players with lvl ~35 Alts

So, since people have been complaining incessantly about the new AC and how it completely punishes lvl 35s and how it’s completely undoable at that level now and blah blah blah blah, I figured I’d put these rumors to rest.

But since people want video evidence and I’m usually a solo player/my friends all alt-leveled to 80 (you guysssssss -_-) I’ll need YOUR help to do it.

So if you’re an experienced player and want to make a video with your level 35 alt running through AC, go ahead and send me a PM on the forums or an in-game mail.

EDIT: Apparently, we get bonus points if we do this with all Blue gear.

EDIT EDIT: Sorry, this is an NA run, forgot to Clarify.

You’ve provided NO evidence. (You said you did this run BEFORE the patch with ALTS of high lvl people, which is NOT a valid test relevant to the real situation.)

You also didn’t mention anything about doing this POST patch but decided to make that conclusion anyway.

In short, your post is wholly dishonest.

Perhaps you didn’t read my post carefully enough. THERE IS NOTHING SIGNIFICANTLY NEW ABOUT THE NEW VERSIONS THAT WOULD WARRANT THE EXTREME HIGHER AMOUNTS OF PUNISHMENT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WHINING ABOUT.

I did read your post carefully. That’s why I pointed out your BLATANT DISHONESTY.

You said you only did it BEFORE the patch with that team setup and only with alts. (Meaning people already know what they are doing, which is not representative of what a real AC team is)

You then made the dishonest conclusion that it’s also doable AFTER the patch even though you made NO mention of actually doing it AFTER the patch with that same setup.

I mentioned that nothing had been changed significantly to warrant the outcry that has been given here. That would imply that I at least had bothered to check out the new AC before saying anything.

And what is representative of a “real” AC team? You’re still dodging the assertion, ANET’S ASSERTION, that Ex dungeons are meant for COORDINATED, EXPERIENCED PLAYERS who know what they’re doing.

You are avoiding answering for your own dishonesty.

You still haven’t answered to the fact that you made the conclusion that it’s doable both BEFORE AND AFTER the patch when in fact you didn’t do this AFTER the patch with that setup.

Well I apologize for assuming that people can be actually intelligent and see that nothing’s been changed significantly since the patch and the bottlenecks are still at the same place, I guess?

I also apologize for assuming that people have the two brain cells to rub together to make connections.

In fact, I’m so apologetic that I’ve already put out the call for people with alts to help me make a video so all those whiners out there that can’t bother to get their kitten together can finally give it a rest.

Now the real question is, did I actually type kitten up there?

Rangers have their highs and lows like every other class. They have really good DPS, but they have to work at it a bit more than other classes like warrior or mesmer. It’s possible just not as easy.

I’m sorry, I’m gonna have to call you out on this one, Robert. It’s well-known that Mesmers are one of the most difficult classes to provide sustained DPS on due to the fact that all their damage relies on conditional statements (IF my clones don’t die, IF my phantasm hits when there are a lot of conditions stacked, etc.)

Rangers, on the other hand, in my experience, provide one of the most STABLE DPS contributions. Maybe not the HIGHEST, but definitely one of the most RELIABLE.

It was doable before (And I’d run it successfully with a party of lvl 35-40s who were alts of more experienced players just for fun) and it’s still doable now. The dungeon mechanics haven’t changed so significantly that they’ll punish lvl 35s any more than they did before.

Everyone who’s saying otherwise has just been basically spoiled by exploits and shortcuts that allow you to basically do zero work for rewards. Doesn’t take much brain to Hundred Blades/Frost Bow 4 graveling burrows, but GOD FORBID someone tell you to kite gravelings through fire, because the difficulty on that…man…it’s so hard to just dodgeroll through the fire if you have gravelings chasing you.

Seriously guys. Doable before, doable now. STOP WHINING AND GIVING THE DEVS UNNECESSARY JUNK TO FILTER THROUGH WHEN THERE ARE REAL ISSUES TO FIX, like Grast not spawning his bubble properly, or having long cast times on his melee attacks.

I’ve run all 3 paths at least twice each (including Kohler) post-patch, and the difficulty bottleneck for low-level groups would still have been a DPS cap with dealing with timed burrows, which can be handled with proper amounts of focused sustained damage on the burrows.

And how is having low-level alts of high level people invalidating? There’s no difference in gear, there’s only a difference in knowledge of the game mechanics. And guess what? Anet has said AGAIN and AGAIN that Ex dungeons, EVEN the low-level ones, are meant for groups of ORGANIZED players who KNOW the game. So I see nothing wrong with it.

He pulls.

He dodges and fights at range.

He has constant condition removal

He makes sure to reflect projectiles.

It’s impressive because he doesn’t mess up over the LONG time it takes to kill the spider. But it’s not that hard.

It’s also not efficient.

Spider doesn’t have any reflectable projectiles, I’m afraid. But your other statements were correct.

This fight isn’t difficult, the difficult bit is actually not getting completely slaughtered by the many adds that spawn WITH the queen.

What they should’ve done was

1) When talking to Grast, a player gets a shield generator bundle that can be used to protect the party from the rocks.
2) When talking to Hodgins, a player gets a scepter capable of generating the fire fields to toast Gravelings.

The “stupid” NPCs should not be allowed to play such an important “do-or-die” part, plain and simple.

Well, technically the Jellyfish Boss is the one that electrocutes the cages in the Underwater fractal, players don’t get to choose. Just treat it like another environmental effect. Hodgins is fine, but Grast needs some work due to his long cast time on irrelevant skills.

actually as i wrote….
it often hits before ANY animation…
I said i posted this after months because i just wanted to be sure…..and Yesterday was really clear how the projectile (i don t believe there is any invisible attack to tell the truth) hits way before the real collision and the hammer jump too…

Its completely impossible to dodge at mid range distance ….its doable at long range….

Also wich would “later levels” be? i didn t state the level…

It does not hit hit before any animation unless you are having latency issues. He raises his hammer for about half a second before swinging it in a circle. The circular swing is what applies the first tic of damage. There is an invisible attack, and you can easily tell there is since the first tic of damage does not inflict Confusion, but the projectiles that spawn afterwards do. I regularly dodge this attack. Just watch for the telegraphs. It’s hard to see, but it’s there; he’ll usually do it some time after not being able to catch someone with his hammer jump after spawning Wells, so just watch out for that.

It would seem like the ‘problem’ here is that you’re demanding one of the devs to cater to your specific interests.

no, no, more that I expect the game, and the devs who work on it, to cater to the players in general. There will always people who want things to be harder, who want to feel more “leet” than the next player because they can get through content that is too challenging for them, but these people should be ignored. The goal shouldn’t be to make things so hard that only a fraction of the players can manage it without excessive difficulty, it should be to make it accessible to the broadest reasonable swath of the population. Of course there are people who like the new dungeons, there are people that like Dark Souls or Battletoads, but these people should largely be ignored.

And again, this is your opinion on things.

The entire rest of the game already caters to players in general. I don’t think anyone will argue against the fact that Open World PvE is largely accessible to the majority of players, and Open World PvE comprises the majority of the PvE in this game in terms of amount of content.

Anet ALREADY STATED that Explorable Mode dungeons were meant to challenge organized groups of 5 players. In fact, they’ve actually done the opposite with Story Mode dungeons and toned down the difficulty to make them accessible to most players. Thus, I don’t really see what the problem is.

The swing where he flings out purple Confusion projectiles (Ring of Warding) has an initial swing damage component and a projectile component, both of which must be avoided if you do not want to take damage. The initial swing component, from what I can tell, is an AoE ranged cone in front of him.

Ah, I see the problem. You should listen to the former group, and not to the latter. The latter are those annoying sort of people that always want to make things hard for the former group. Please the former and everyone can play.

It would seem like the ‘problem’ here is that you’re demanding one of the devs to cater to your specific interests. Contrary to what you may believe, the latter group do not always want to make things harder for the former. Instead, what they do is enjoy the new content that the developers push out and show their support on the forums.

Keep in mind that it has ALWAYS been said that Explorable Mode dungeons are not for everyone, and require a properly coordinated group. Your Average Random Pug™ is not supposed to be able to cakewalk through this content. Up until now, it was pretty easy for parties to do so. It still is pretty easy for organized parties who know what they’re doing, but at least it’s harder now.

to all the people saying they love everything in the new AC, are you telling me you find NO PROBLEMS with the p2 boss fight?

as in, you think it isn’t convoluted to kitten that you have to drop what you’re doing, pick up a stupid stick off the ground, get 1 guy to lift 1 out of 5 ectos, get the remaining 4 to squeeze around 1 trap, and all spam pull on that one ecto, do it 2 more times, draw the boss over, drop the stupid stick, beat on him for 10 seconds, pick up the stick you dropped, run over to another trap and redo the entire thing again? for 3 times or more?

really? you guys think that is ‘brilliant’ gameplay?

it’s bloody pointless and convoluted.

There are a few things that can make this encounter easier. The first is to make use of the ctrl+T function in the game that will call out an ectoplasm for you to target. The second is to assign two people to levitation and 3 people to pulling.

The dungeons are supposed to encourage group coordination. I ran this tonight with a pug with no problems.

So after reading the replies in the other thread, and going through the dungeon to verify myself what was/wasn’t happening, I’d like to create a new thread with a nicely-structured first post to inform Robert and the rest of the dev team issues that may have arisen with the well-intentioned (and slightly buggy) new Colossus Rumblus encounter.

Here are the issues identified so far:

1. Warmaster Grast does not properly erect the shielding bubble when Colossus Rumblus Induces Seismic Activity.

2. Warmaster Grast does not rez with your party upon a wipe, and upon resurrecting he will immediately return to attacking Colossus Rumblus without healing to full health.

3. Warmaster Grast’s attacks have a long casting time, which may result in him casting during Colossus Rumblus’ “Rocks Fall, everyone dies” attack. If the party is unfortunate enough that a rock falls on Grast’s head, he will be knocked down continuously and be unable to cast his shielding bubble.

4. Warmaster Grast does not have Stability, leaving him unable to recover and properly cast his shielding bubble if knocked down during Induce Seismic Activity.

5. Warmaster Grast has relatively low HP and thus will become downed easily. This is compounded by the fact that he will not attempt to dodge falling rocks and cannot cast his shielding bubble while knocked down, making him susceptible to dying if he does not put the bubble up immediately.

6. Colosus Rumblus’ Seismic Activity cannot currently be interrupted.

I hope that’s all the issues! I’ll add more if any crop up, but this seems to be the heart of the issue. All in all, I feel like the change was refreshing and welcome, if only these few kinks could be worked out.

The question is whether the funnily high drop rate is a bug and it will be fixed later (increasing the rarity again) or whether it will stay low…

Since the drop rate before this patch was zero, I don’t think it will be adjusted. It is still a very low drop rate, but now that it actually is on the drop possibility, it’s showing up. Tens of thousands of players do that event every day. It will drop.

A dev stated that it would take 10 players 7 months of farming for it to drop. I’m not sure this new drop rate is correct.

You switch to staff for the utility;
- #2 gives regeneration
- #3 chills, poisons and gives weakness if chained with #4 (useful in PvE, vital in PvP)
- #5 fears (can be good in PvE, is amazing in PvP)
- and of course the #4 transfers all your conditions and one for other people (iirc) standing near it on activation, which makes it one of the best support skills on any weapon imo.

You can also start the fight with the staff #2 and immediately switch to scepter to stack bleeds a bit more quickly.

Scepter is the main damage of course and especially in PvE you will spend the majority of your time using it.
The real question isn’t why would you switch to the staff though, it’s: why would you switch to anything else? (in a condition build).

I changed my build abit and switched the offhand dagger and focus (So it’s S/D + D/F).

Well, I play my necro as a condition damage/condition drawing build, so a lot of times it’s useful for me to switch to D/F so I can tank the conditions I take from other people if Locust/Consume is down. Siphon Life heals for quite abit with Vampiric/Bloodthirst/Vampiric Precision. I find this better utility than Staff, and it does let me facetank some hits to rez someone if I need to.

Hybrid Build with Survivability

in Necromancer

Posted by: Maestro.5376

Maestro.5376

Oh, another question since I’m new to Necro: Why do people run Scepter/Dagger + Staff?

It seems like Scepter/Dagger is suboptimal to, say, Scepter/Focus where you have the Vulnerability burst.

I run Scepter/Focus + Dagger/Dagger, and I find it’s been working out great. I plan to switch to Rabid gear at level 80. Basically, I’m using Dagger/Dagger as the Life-Leech/Condition Removal weapon set while using Scepter/Focus for most of my damage.

Because Scepter is a condition damage weapon. Dagger main-hand has 0 condition damage, making it almost useless for condition builds. Staff has 3 damaging conditions, 4 if you’ve traited terror. Dagger off-hand is all condition damage, you get bleeds and whatever you are transfering.

They use it because it is the best build for 99% of condition damage builds, and even many hybrids.

But why would anyone ever switch OFF of scepter? I don’t really understand that. It seems like staying on Scepter and using Epidemic would be a lot more efficient than switching to Staff for the AoE and potentially losing the bleed stacks you’ve accumulated from scepter auto (especially if you have the scepter bleed trait).

I feel like having the Staff there is just kind of pointless because it doesn’t supplement your damage in any way. I’d rather have an offset that increases my survivability (D/D for the lifesteal which heals a TON with blood traits and the condition damage transfer) and have a mainset that uses Scepter for damage and Focus for AoE Vuln/Chill burst than having a mainset of Scept/Dag and then have to worry about Staff diminishing DPS whenever I switch to it for…some reason, I don’t even know why you’d switch to staff.

Just tested this in the mists, it does work for Illusionary Swordsman at least.

My method was
1. +5% crit sigils on two steady swords and soldier amulet with no traits at all vs.
2. +5% crit sigils on two steady swords and berserker amulet with full dueling (=crit damage) traits.

Even with a very small sample size, the disparity between no crit damage and full crit damage was huge enough (~1800 vs. ~2600) as to not be attributed to random fluctuations.

Personally, I find that relying on Phantasms for all or a majority of your damage output to be abit optimistic. There are too many situations in dungeons where your illusions will quickly become destroyed by random AOE from a boss, especially Phantasms which have lower health.

Personally, I don’t believe the 25 points in Inspiration are worth taking just to get the extra damage from things that might not have enough uptime to deal their damage.

For most dungeon setups (that don’t benefit from a reflection-heavy Mesmer), I run 20/20/0/0/30. This allows me to convert between shatter and phantasm damage on the fly between fights, or even during fights.

HOWEVER, if you do decide to run a phantasm build, I would recommend Rampager’s gear instead of Berserker’s. Why? Because phantasms don’t benefit from +crit dmg%, but the bleed from Sharper Images is affected by Condition Damage. Since most of your damage is coming from your phantasms in this build, I’d recommend switching to Rampager’s gear.

weakness is cool, but not something necros can spread like candy.

So…how is it that with no condition duration bonus my target has weakness at least 75% of the time? As a side-effect to my main goal of bleed stacking? And this is on groups?

because you are running off hand dagger, a weapon that favors bleed stacking necromancers, and has the one weapon skill we have that provide weakness.

Yet the uptime on said weakness is quite good. We can make sure anyone we want is weakened when we want them so without much effort. AoE perma-weakness is rather easy for us to do.

Sounds like we can hand it out like candy without any issue.

Don’t forget the EB-on-Death Shroud trait. I don’t even stay in Death Shroud extensively anymore. Most times I pop in for EB, cast Dark Path for the chill, and pop back out again. 15s CD (internal CD) on a 10s Weakness + the offhand Dagger Enfeebling? Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Hi Guys.

Abit of a quandary here. I did the Halloween event and got the Mad Memoires book for several of my characters, but recently I decided to create a Necromancer and thought the skin would look really good on her. Unfortunately, the Memoires skin is soulbound.

I know there’s a trick you can pull with white items to get other soulbound item skins to other characters, but I’m having difficulty finding a neutral backpiece to do this with the Memoires.

I tried it with one of the soulbound-on-use dungeon backpieces, but that didn’t seem to do the trick. Anyone have any luck with this?

Thanks in advance!

Ralena and Vassar Immune to Conditions?

It appears to be a bug. They did not exhibit this behavior on subsequent runs.

Try splitting them apart. If I recall correctly, they cleanse themselves rather rapidly while close together.

We were getting rather annoyed by their lack of condition staying (since…I think at least two of the people in the party were condition build). Ralena was actually on one side of the door while Vassar was shut out on the other, and their circles weren’t intersecting, but they were STILL cleansing conditions extremely quickly.

Has anyone else noticed this? I had a party wipe to Ralena and Vassar in AC story, and upon return, we discovered that they both had the thing where some conditions fade extremely fast from them (A La Bjarl the Rampager with his buff on style), and others they were completely immune to. Is this intended, or a bug?

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but Trident 1 now causes Bleed instead of Confusion, and Trident 4’s Phantasm now causes Confusion instead of Bleed.

I feel like it’s a good compromise; getting 12 stacks of confusion up on just autoattack was pretty OP.

After the new patch, the damage numbers have changed quite abit. It really depends on whether there are large groups of mobs clumped together for you to capitalize AoE on.

If you need AoE: GS/Sword+Focus is the way to go

If you need Single Target Damage: GS/Sword+Pistol

Zerker’s, 20/20/0/0/30.

There are instances where reflection will actually boost your DPS higher than other players can achieve (Malrona in TA EX is a good example), in which case you want to bring a Sword/Focus and 0/20/0/20/30.

So the new dreamer is amazing!

Because everyone always proof reads their posts on internet forums and edits them accordingly.

B-but I do, professor!

Whenever I make a mistake on a forum that doesn’t allow edits it always makes me feel dirty…

Hopefully through editing and trying to live up to your expectations.

That’s a fragment, by the way.

You forgot the two periods around the right quotation mark!

That’s debatable since he was framing a sentence in the quotations marks as part of a larger sentence.

Point out any fails. I’d love to see it English professor. Oh wai…

And in the case of your level of understanding inference, you’d apply the same understanding resulting in “you’re ad idiot, because you don’t know what inference actually is.”. Rather than than the main theme. That you’re an idiot.

I understand if English is not your primary language.
