“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
After working my tail off since pre-launch to be able to make two legendaries myself I’m pretty disgusted at them just giving away a legendary weapon.
TIL BEING THE BEST TEAM IN THE kittenING GAME ISN’T EARNING kitten.
Best team in the game….right.
Best 5 people in the game that decided they wanted to PvP.
LOL This is cute.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
PvErs feeling the sting of ANET not giving them special attention for once? I’m surprised.
eta- join us in the PvP forums. We’ve been here since pre-launch, and we’d love the company.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I missed most of the map preview! Why would they put this on first?! You’d think they put it in the middle to keep peeps tuned in.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Okay sir, I’m bored and will play your game. Firstly, I cannot compare an Elementalist build in such a way as the builds don’t rely on a single mechanic. So to save typing out a list of balance changes which would be appropriate to the difficulty of the common builds I gave a single example.
Secondly, myself and many other players are very well aware of the potential problems this trait will cause.
Thirdly, there was no baiting, you’re just a bit crazy. The post was made because I found it annoying that people were trying to justify something like this with difficulty.
Firstly, that’s my point. It’s incomparable altogether, which is why I’m puzzled you gave such an example in the first place.
Secondly, what are those issues? As people are saying, a lot of important heals are passive.
Thirdly, it’s a legitimate defense for this buff. Lockdown Mesmers are good only in the hands of skilled players considering the spec has so many easily exploited drawbacks. This trait will NOT make or break the build for those already successfully playing lockdown. In other words, this skill is the icing on the cake, not the eggs/flour/sugar of a lockdown build…
If anything, this trait will simply get more Mesmer users trying out lockdown builds, which is a more high-risk high-reward style of gameplay. Everyone should be happy to see less PU and Phantasm builds.

idk what 12:00 PM PDT means. #airhead What time is this for US eastern?
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The difficulty level of a build does not justify the fact it will become brokenly overpowered. Comparing build difficulty based on the current meta also provides no strong judgement.
Would you think it’s fair if I was given 25 stacks of bleeding on my off-hand dagger earth 5 due to the difficulty in landing the skill?
This silly rhetorical questions is obviously bait into admitting that the trait is OP, when no one should be making prejudgments about such. We don’t even know what its internal cool down is (if it has one).
That being said, let me take the bait. Your question fails to add to this discussion, because we’re not talking about a specific skill as in earth 5; we’re talking about overall build difficulty. Interrupt Mesmers are inherently ~less easy~ to play than other Mesmer builds. That is fact.
This trait will serve as a buff/reward to those players who have effectively accomplished enough skill in order to use interrupt builds.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Too bad this trait will require 30 in Domination. But I play shatter. I’m sure there are plenty of interrupt Mesmers out there that are drooling over this trait.
I have about 2 cups of drool.
eta-
If you’re running an interrupt Mesmer and you rupt their heal, it SHOULD already be over. This new skill simply all but guarantees it if you’re a bad interrupt Mesmer. :P

This is a superb post. Thumbs up.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
As someone that has always given ANET the benefit of the doubt, I must sincerely say I’m disappointed.
I come onto these forums and try to be positive among the trolls and posters who only spit vitriol at the devs. I think it’s undeserved, but this recent update personally makes me feel like I was slapped in the face.

Do we think the prices have stabilized yet??
No. I’ve been trading BL skins for a while. The prices are unhealthy. They won’t hold. They are, simply put, too high. None of the skins survived these high prices. None. (Fused skins don’t count because they were initially introduced through a different system and were never 1 ticket to begin with).
ah so you wouldn’t recommend investing in them? Having terrible flashbacks to how poor the lovestruck items did. I’m fairly new to BL skin trading. Guess I hopped onto the train as it’s coming to a stop…

“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Well this is cute.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
How embarrassing. I didn’t know there was no CD in between using the mantra like with Distraction. Shame on me, considering that I main Mesmer. :P
I may check it out in that case, because 4 second AOE stab is amazing for mid fights.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The 2 seconds on stability just doesn’t sit well next to the stability given by other classes.
…..I’m not sure how this matters in any way…. Isn’t a skill supposed to be all about functionality and useability on a given class? And if we were really going to compare it to other classes, we should compare them fairly. The mesmer literally has 3 stun breaks on 1 skill whilst other classes usually only have one.
Personally I find MoD, MoC and MoR way more useful than blink and decoy. I find that I can fight warriors and Necros very easily with those more so than with the other two.
No, you’re right. My point, however should remain on how short the cooldown is. By the time I pop MoC and begin my stomp, the guardian has a high chance of knocking me back. A 3 second stab a la distortion would be nice, making it way more reliable as well is viable in the meta.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
When traited aren’t accurately shown.
Superior Rune of the Mesmer gives 33% extra duration. Confounding suggestions gives 25%, which should be a total increase of 50%+ duration, but Mantra of Distraction is only showing a 1.25 daze duration.
Am I missing something? Thanks for the help!

Scarlet is the best asuran in the game.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Concerning Caithe’s secret here is some dialogue from the aetherpath from twilight arbor:
Scarlet Briar Hologram: “Ooh, and I just realized: I know something about you even Faolain doesn’t know.”
Not trying to knit pick but someone would have brought it up eventually
I didn’t do that particular content. I don’t mind, I’ll update the post. Thanks for the correction.
If you don’t mind, could you give me a quick rundown on the significance of Caithe & Faolain’s relationship? As a lore junkie, I’m embarrassed that it’s slipped my mind.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I like the slow progression of Kas/Jory’s relationship. It felt natural like a “typical” relationship. The point where it seems forced is when it becomes almost satirical and against the original point of including gay relationships.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Gotta disagree with you there Stoop, especially in the case of the Toxic Alliance. Again, the toxic krait are the ones presumably being duped by both the Nightmare/Scarlet. Everyone has something to gain out of the alliance EXCEPT the Krait. That was the point I was making.
We see what the Aether Blades have done by going into hiding. I think a lot of them broke off from Scarlet after previous failures. The ones we see fighting in Lion’s Arch are probably the other half who still believe in Scarlet’s cause. You ever wonder why we didn’t see Mai??
As Dustfinger says, we don’t know the inter-politics at play between the alliances, but I think it’s foolhardy to assume these alliances are blindly following Scarlet except in the case of the krait.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I haven’t bought the cultural armor, but I do plan on using my tormented skin in pvp… SIGH my pve look sucks so much.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I understand the bitterness in the pvp forums, but it seems everyone in this one complains about buying things…from a game that is free to play. Hmm, I think I’ll go back to the pvp forums where at least their outrage is partially deserved.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Did the krait, who were forced out of their ancestral home by the deep sea dragon, really want to help Scarlet unleash the jungle dragon? I can’t see the flame legion getting their cause advanced by that either and the dredge won’t be looking forward to massive worms burrowing through their caverns. The alliances are all badly explained with no characterization. The part with Scarlet building massive gadgets to blow up a city to release a dragon is fine, perfectly alright. The Watchwork and Jubilee story is ok as well. Everything else remains completely unbelievable.
Whaaat?! I thought the Toxic Alliance was VERY well-thought out, tragic even. If you know anything about the krait, you know they’re a very religious group of folk, and xenophobic as well. I don’t have the Dev post to quote here, but basically, Scarlet seduced them into believing she could bring their profit back. They succumbed to the alliance, and if you notice, they’re not normal krait anymore… thus, they can’t really return home to the other krait… I almost feel sorry for this villainous race as they truly were duped!
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I only play spvp…which is in a pretty horrible state. My only other draw to the game is the Lore. I’ve loved all the updates with the Lore since Tower of Nightmares, but I particularly liked the lore involved with Bazaar of the 4 Winds (Glint) and even the rivalry seen between Kiel/Evon.
So yeah, basically, Lore is super important to me. It looks like ANET used this year as a learning experiment, and improved upon their mistakes as the story went on.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Nice speculation here! I’m so intrigued!

Wolfpaq, I don’t play pve much, but I can assure you, Minion Masters are ridiculously good in pvp…

Gaymers ftw
I second the OP, but I must say I am elated with how they’ve developed Kasmeer & Marjory.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The problem with TW being a Glamour skill is it’d be upgradeable too much. Lower CD, longer, applies confusion to everybody who enter/exit it and blinds everybody inside it. Maybe that’s why they decided not making it Glamour.
But wiki says: “Glamour is a type of utility skills exclusive to mesmers that create shining fields on the ground, which have helpful effects on allies or harmful effects on enemies.” So…
Well yeah, that’s the point: being able to upgrade it via traits like other class elites can…which would make it more viable. I guess if you’re concerned with it being OP, you could increase the CD and reduce the time to 7-8 seconds like other glamours.
eta – the fact that it’s an ethereal combo field gives more credence to the opinion that it should be a glamour.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The 2 seconds on stability just doesn’t sit well next to the stability given by other classes.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
hmm. If you can’t get an ele past 90% HP, then I think the problem is something deeper and more concerning.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The pvp community is so toxic.
Uhm, that’s what happens when any game is dying.
People act kitteny when a game is dying. The community wasn’t near so bad around launch, actually the community was the best community I’ve ever seen around launch (constant thought out well meaning posts, the community in general actually scoffed-at/downvoted/ignored anyone saying anything bad about the game or the devs).
Right now the ball is in Anet’s court, if they want to bring that good community back, they easily can, they just have to make GW2 a game worth supporting…
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Saying pvp is dead is pretty silly. There’s been a huge surge in pvp players since the December patch. You can place the cause of that on WvW or whatever, but the facts are the facts. Yes, pvp is in a very poor state, and has been for several months as many suggest, but saying it is dead is blatantly false.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
All I’ve got to say is: why use PU when you could be using Chaotic Interruption instead?! :O
Because chaotic interruption isn’t particularly good?
On the contrary… In my experience it has been devastating in lockdown builds, especially in combination to Temporal Curtain. You can essentially trait it with many of the Mesmer weapons, but I like the focus pull the most.
Yeah CI is definitely good, but not as good as PU.
A good Lockdown Mesmer will be able to beat a good PU mesmer. All it takes is simply finding the right Mesmer (which is easy) and then you know… locking him down. Chill will kitten the CD of stealth, and most lockdowns “should” be able to keep the damage high & steady.

I really like the idea of Mass Hysteria elite. I’m just imagining a huge midfight and all of a sudden 4 enemies running off the point. I’d imagine that it’d have to have an insanely long CD in order to not be OP though.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Miasma levels are through the roof here. I know Scarlett is OP, but don’t let her win.
Bravo to the original poster.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
The pvp community is so toxic. Full of piranhas who want a taste of blood. The nastiness that some display clutters the truly intelligent posters attempting to communicate the needs of this community. For shame.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Remember the days where killshots were insanely common and everyone died after two hits? Yeah, that’s so much better than the current Meta. Definitely some issues here with everyone going the route of passive gameplay, but I’d take that over glass cannons any day.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
This thread is awesome and gives me hope that we can all work together to make the community better.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”

“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Wow, us pvpers can be so nasty and uncouth towards others. For shame. Constructive criticism isn’t an effective form of communication without the constructive part. We can do better…
