Total agreement with the above comment.

As I would very much like to see Mesmers being able to wield a Pistol as a Mainhand option I wanted to post an different set of abilities; based on a suggestion by Crion.8465.
—-
- Double Shot: Fires two quick shots at the target.
followed by
Aimed Shot: Fire a powerful aimed shot at the target.- Illusive Separation: Roll to the left or right and summons a clone that rolls in the opposite direction (Evade 1s). Clone then uses ‘Double Shot’.
- Chaos Barrage: Fire several shots with your pistol. Uses both pistols if one is equipped in the offhand (like the iDuelist animation, but damage remains the same).
I’ve been playing a Mesmer for quite some time now (and still love it, despite certain changes in the past), but it still feels as if the Mesmer is severely lacking in the choice for mainhand department, as if it simply wasn’t a fully finished class at launch in terms of weapon choices.
Only a Sword or Scepter remain as options for mainhand, which feels rather minimal; especially considering all the other classes. Only the Engineer seems to have even less choices, but can make up for it with all their kits.
Also, there are 2 illusionary pistols in the game; Lyss and Ilya. To this day this still leads me to believe that it may have been the original intention to include a pistol as an option for a mainhand as we already have it as an offhand option and a Master trait (Duelist’s Discipline) that affects pistols (plural).
Lastly, there is the pretty odd positioning of the Offhand Pistol skills when viewed from the weapon selection screen in our Hero panel and it all feels like theres a piece missing in our puzzle; as if it was originally intended for Mesmers to have pistol as a Mainhand option but not implemented at launch.
As such, I sincerely hope that ArenaNet would want to consider adding the pistol as a mainhand weapon for the Mesmer. Personally I would love to have more options available to me as the current choices simply do not seem to mesh well with one another.
(And the concept of finally being able to wield both Lyss and Ilya on my Mesmer is very appealing to me.)
So I would really love the choice of one more mainhand weapon that focuses on being a true Power based weapon. And to me the pistol could be that choice as a 900 range (1200 when traited with Duelist’s Discipline) weapon. This would allow ArenaNet to modify our scepter to take up to its own true calling; an actual condition based weapon.
Currently Jon and the rest of the balance team are trying to figure out what to do with the Scepter’s identity crisis and its very awkward auto-chain. Having a Mainhand Pistol would allow them to turn the Scepter into a true condition weapon while allowing the Pistol to become a viable choice for power based attacks.
For me having the mainhand choices of Sword, Scepter and Pistol would complete our puzzle and give us a full set of weapons where each has its own identity and function.
This please.

I don’t know how you came to that conclusion but staff isn’t that strong.
Staff 2 is a really great skill that rewards player with good reflects. 8s cool down is a long wait to avoid the next burst however (like thief), but I’ve successfully avoid warrior’s axe F1, hammer stun, shield stun, and bull’s charge.
Staff 4 is is a not so good skill. 1 second internal cool down, 35 seconds recharge. The protection, blinds, and cripple are nice, but I rarely even notice a difference whether I have it on or off. Since when is the last time you care about whether to hit a mesmer with chaos armor or not?
Staff 5 is an okay skill, does little damage [122 (.330)]. Supposedly (in a 1v1) a zoning skill that’d give the mesmer some room to breath (without CS). But it can be countered easily by swapping to ranged weapons. Even if you’re standing in it (without CS), the best thing it can do is taking 5% off of your HP bar (condition effects are chill(1s) / poison(2s) / weakness(2s).
.
The phase retreat is pretty legit for the several reasons:
-Gets around immobilize, interrupting combos
-Added mobility
-Good evasive
-Small CD —> more opportunities for armors.
I don’t understand your dislike for Chaos Armor, which imo is the best one in the game. It’s shuts down players who attack rapidly due to the cripple/blind, while also giving consistent boons. It’s the single skill that helps me to 1v1 thieves.
Onto Staff 5, Chaos storm isn’t meant for damage, it’s meant as a defensive tool and support in team battles. Anyone using Staff for its offensive potential is one misguided Mesmer. In pointing out the potential for ranged attacks, you actually give credence to why CS is great: if you lay CS on the point, you’re either eating it or off point, allowing the Mesmer to cap. Win win to me.

I can’t take the name “Bearback Ranger” seriously. Sorry. :/

I’m going to quit if eles don’t get nerfed.

Neither? Condition Mesmers and Shatter Mesmers ftw!
PU is alot more fun to play than Phantasm, but I think Phantasms are more effective in spvp.

I think there’s arguably some potential to PU Mesmers being viable in tournaments with the right team. That being said, to say they’re OP is laughable in the spvp environment because of these 3 points:
1) harder to cap points.
2) most efficient role is as a tank/support in which case you need to always be with an ally.
3) Should win most 1v1 matches, but see point 1. If running a glassy spec, you’ll melt from conditions in most team fights.
I just switched from PU to a condition-based one which takes care of it well enough. It’s quite annoying to fight PU. However, I don’t understand all the outrage.
