Nice theory OP.
I really like where you are going. I also think this was the last experiment Scarlet did. The hybrid was pretty much what she’s looking forward to and compared to her other experiments it is pretty advanced. I think we are going to find out her true intentions on the next chapter.

I will post it. Then, since this is the general section my thread will go downhill.
If I’m lucky 2 or 3 people will read it before its gone forever.

On a server dedicated sub-forum the activity will be much less and everyone will know that it is a hub for the gathering of that specific server population. For us to address issues that are specific to that server.

It would be like posting, I don’t know, PvP stuff here just because it is the general forum. Sure you can do it but then should they erase all other sub forums and only keep the general one?

A simple concept that goes a really long way

Borderland structures can only give PPT to the native team to that BL. You cap stuff in enemy BL to deny enemy points, but you do not gain them for yourself.

This instantly makes the game more defensive-minded, forcing offensive pushes to be more strategic, which moves more towards rewarding coordination and skill and a little bit away from sheer numbers.

Strategies will quickly adapt. I imagine towers being much more sieged up, and therefore trebuchets and other longer, more drawn out sieges, resulting in more fighting and less of a musical chairs back-capping game.

See the thing is if server A caps all of server B’s borderlands, that sets server B back, but it does not give server A a point advantage over server C, so if server C sees that happening and goes after server A, forcing A to pull back off B, etc, you can quickly see how it would quickly become a more thought-out macro-strategic game.

Hmmm….interesting idea.

Can we discuss this?

Let’s say server A is the most populated one. So he goes to B and spends time taking B’s BL. He also has to protect EB and his own BL. B is not making points in his BL, and instead it goes to EB and try to stop A there. Since EB is the only place where the battle for points is. The one who domains EB, domains the game.

Now, what would be the balance between EB and a BL? Will a server with his entire BL producing points be enough to fight a server controlling EB?

just a reminder… The Pact did not BUILD Fort Trinity. the fort was already there, looking at the northeast shore of Orr. Trahearne suggested supplying the fort as a means to launch the assault against the undead as a forward command post. and the player character simply names it “Fort Trinity.”

as for Arah… i would love another explorable zone in Orr. there seems to be enough space for at least 3 more zones there, possibly as many as 6, not counting the Scavenger’s Causeway. i think it would be simple enough to code it so that once you complete Arah Story Mode Dungeon, access would be granted to the rest of Orr.

Fort Trinity is full of the Pact before you even form the Pact…

I think that Anet should, with each LS update, add just a little more of Orr healing. Just a beach to start…which spreads further inland. Then another coast or tiny island. Perhaps a single temple spreading some healing, and revamping that particular temple’s event chain to a defend rather than attack style.

Over time, we’d see the fruits of our victory against Zaihtan. Then, when Anet finds the time is right, release a LS patch that is focused on the healing of Orr and big changes and a progression to the next chapter in our war against the dragons.

As long as the Personal Story exists, it will always restrict the Living World.

There are certain things that just cannot change, Orr (three explorable zones) cannot be fully cleansed (or even partially) without messing the story for those who still haven’t gone through it. We could say that those maps are set in an specific timespan, it doesn’t matter if you visit them after you finish your Personal Story.

I pretty much fully agree with Kaos.9162 and RedGlow.2715 on this.

I have to agree. But there are workarounds.
I propossed for only Arah to be available as clean. It would mark the beggining of the cleansing and wouldn’t ruin the living world since all other three areas would stay the same. Maybe add some more explorer NPCs walking around and that’s it.

Then, somewhere inside the city or at the entrance, players would be prompted to enter the Ruined City of Arah dungeon.

Arah can exist in the open world the same way Fort Trinity does.

This would make the same inconsistency as Fort Trinity, where you see it there even though your actions haven’t created it yet, but since Anet seems to have no problem with this, it could be done. Players who need the dungeon would be prompted to go in at the door or something.

Another way would be to instance the city.
People who need to do the Dungeon are just prompted again, while PS completers can choose to enter the Cleansed Arah.

Lorewise this makes sense since the city is a big dome, Risen presense could still be the same outside while the city slowly (slowly as in never ending) reborns.

Hi.

I was wondering, what is the official statement on having two versions of the same map? Would that be considered instancing? And yes, I’m talking about Orr and maybe Fort Trinity.

When you defeat Zhaitan, you supposedly clean Orr, however, even after months to no end, no cleansing meets the eyes. Zhaitan’s minions number doesn’t lower by one bit.
Of course, this would be implemented by allowing players who have “unlocked” the clear Orr to go back to the corrupted one so they can meet with other players and complete events may they wish to. With new events on the Clean Orr as well.

These are the points in favor this could have:

  • It would help the concept of living story. Zhaithan is dead and there’s no proof of it. Everything is almost the same. Slowly having Orr back would be natural thing to happen. Also, the same for everybody is quick for inconsistency in the story: you can go in Fort Trinity and then you find out you built it.
  • Having a free or at least less corrupted Orr to meet would be a great motivation for finishing the Personal Story.
  • Clean Orr must play an important role on upcoming fights with other Elder Dragons and the pass by sea to Cantha and Elona. If it stays like it has always been. Is this supposed to happen overnight?
  • Let’s say Anet includes” The Conquer of Orr” as part of the LS: that would make the corrupted Orr disappear forever. How would it fit in the personal story afterwards?
    Is Orr going to stay like this forever? Will it be finally resurrected and render the whole Personal Story inconsistent?

The only problem would be having players going in and out of Corrupted and Clean Orr to do events and stuff. But this is a small price in my opinion.

So, I humbly ask: Communal instances yay or nay?

We’re also looking at shaving the efficiency of Flanking Strike slightly, so that it now only removes 1 boon instead of 2.

Also, pistol main hand may see one of its skills reworked to better support allies. We have multiple prototypes that we’re trying out, so we’ll have to see which we settle on by the next release.

I think Flanking strike is good as it is. Most of the times, foes don’t even have two boons. But I must admit it is a good way of disabling enemies.

Perhaps, make it steal one boom and remove another one.
That way we can still have FS as a viable debuff skill, even when not getting the whole advantage of the situation.

Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

Screw people Josh. SAB is fine as it is. Is not perfect, I mean, few Buebles around to be honest, but the difficulty is fair.

The problem is people these days: They want everything as easy going as their mediocre lives, accostumed to getting things without any effort. People who are lazy even FOR PLAYING.

They want to have achieve things that are not really achivements. They want to do things their current skills doesn’t allow but don’t want to improve either. They want life to be tuned down to their personal level of comfort.

Screw them man.

Just finished this with my new Human Elementalist, Eden Antilles. She got put in the middle of Mount Maelstrom. x_x

Haha, great adventure Reina. I had noticed you couldn’t hit high level monsters before. Heck you can’t even apply conditions, but I must be honest and say I did not try to kill ambient creatures haha.

As for me, my human engi ended in a far side of Blazeridge Steppes.
I had to walk by branded creatures which are nasty ranged snipers. Luckily, I was able to use the cannon at Steelye Span and clear my way for the run. After that I ended up in Plains of Ashford which allowed me to do a couple events, hearts and get some decent armor and weapons. After that I went through the Black Citadel and out to Diessa Plateu. I found an errant emissary and took him to globe. I must say I was tempted to take the globe home, but no great adventure comes without pain.

So I kept on, up to Wayefer Foothill and down to Hoelbrak.

There it got really tricky. I asked an old blacksmith and he told me I had to go through Dredgehaunt Cliffs, how wrong was he, since I could of gone north to Snowden Drift and have a nicer time.

So there I was, surrounded by Jotuns and Linx who must have a 5km aggro area. I couldn’t pass by the Jotun Village that’s the closer way to Lonar’s Pass because it is just impossible with so many ranged enemies. So I had to survive going all the way down the map and take the longest path to the exit.

On Lonar’s things got a little bit brighter, I managed to kill a Blackskale after the most intense battle this game has ever witnessed, and went up to find he exit.

The thing is I got totally lost, I just cant find it and I refuse to see the map. It has taken me longer, but I know I will make it to LA. After that, I’ll be a few maps short of my beloved DR.


This has become more challenging than intended. I’m forging my engineer in fire lol.

General rules:

a)You can only use WP if you are dead.
b) Set an amount of money for yourself (1g or 2g). You got lost with only that in hand. If you run out of it and die, you won’t be able to WP. It’s GAME OVER.
c) If you find an event that is up to 15 lvls higher, you must TRY to do it.
d) If you find a veteran up to 5 lvls higher, you must kill it.
e) You can only use items you find. Can’t use the TP unless you run into one.
f) If you run into a heart you must TRY to do it.
g) You can’t use your traits until you run into a mayor city.

Does c) include Group Events or ones with swarms which can bury a lone player in no time flat? Because then I’ll have to give this a pass. I am thinking about doing this and chronicling it for lolz.

Also g) , would you count forts or large towns on the areas (Like Claypool, for instance, or Lionguard forts) for the Traits?

As for C, you must at least try do it. Odds are you are not going to be alone. If you used a Teletransportation Device and ended up on Costa Rica and saw a burning home with kids inside, you should at least to save them. That’s what adventure is all about.

G and E refers to anywhere you can find a TP or trainer. But don’t buy stuff with another character and pick them up with your Lost Adventurer. You are alone in this.

Hello. This metagame is for those of you who want to add another level of difficulty to an already excellent game like Gw2. If you are up to a challenge, this is how you play:

1) Make a new character of any race or class.
2) Go out and learn all the weapon skills. (This is optional).
3) Buy a a Twisted Watchwork Portal and use it.
4) Your mission is now to return to your capital city.

General rules:

a)You can only use WP if you are dead.
b) Set an amount of money for yourself (1g or 2g). You got lost with only that in hand. If you run out of it and die, you won’t be able to WP. It’s GAME OVER.
c) If you find an event that is up to 15 lvls higher, you must TRY to do it.
d) If you find a veteran up to 5 lvls higher, you must kill it.
e) You can only use items you find. Can’t use the TP unless you run into one.
f) If you run into a heart you must TRY to do it.
g) You can’t use your traits until you run into a mayor city.
i) Choose your way wisely and stick to it: The higher your world discovery is, the less points for you.

HARD MODE:

A) Higher players can’t scort you.
B) You can’t leave a zone until you are the average lvl for that zone. Example: In a zone 25-35, you must be lvl 30 to leave. (25+35=60/2=30).
C) If there’s a dungeon near you you must lvl up in that zone and do it.
D) Kill any champions on your way home.
E) You are just some guy who got lost: you don’t have any traits at all.
F) You are anything but Elite. Not elite skills for you.
G) Replace all of the above “TRYs” for “MUST”.
I) If you use a WP to go back to some place, you must walk again. No WP use back and forth between known zones.

You can also play with your friends and see who makes it home faster, with a higher lvl, from further away, with less % of the map discovered.

CLARIFICATIONS

  • Rules E and G apply to anywhere you can find a BTP or a trainer. It doesn’t have to be a mayor city.
  • Rule C applies to Group event as well. Trying does not means dying 100 times. But at least try to save the day so you have some stories to tell back home!
  • Less discovery points is better because it means you wandered less around. If you wandered less it means your way was straight home, even when the map was blurry. If you go changing ways everytime you find a veteran or an impossible event it should be reflected.

I will keep adding new rules and clarifications as you guys improve the game.

Living World has broken me

Truths:

1- The LS could wait a little more than 2 week. It would not harm it. We’d rather have a compelling story than farming. Or at least I would like to think so.
2- We need the story telling of the Living STORY. Not on the website. IN GAME. Otherwise it feels lackluster.
3- Things need a little bit more of polish. Really. After the Queen’s Jubilee instance I was so excited to see what was going down on the QS, but my heart was hurted instead after the glitched cinematics and the so called Scarlet.
4- You have A GREAT CONCEPT, I love the Living Story, but unfortunately, the concept is good, the execution not so much.
5- I think it is ok to have easy achivements and hard achivements. If somebody can’t do the kittenes, screw them. Don’t change that.

Opportunities:
1- Instanced gameplay works. If you can’t come out with better things than crazy zergs, don’t be afraid of instancing more stuff.

You can improve Anet. You are a wonderful team and company. Give more participation for your story writters and base the game a little more around lore, not lore around the game.

Its the STORY part of the Living Story. We have the living, we need the story!

This brings all the sense to the game.

Same as many people here:

a) Scarlet’s lips didn’t move.
b) She dissapeared and the gun stayed.
c) Jennah’s movements were not veyr fluid.

I, as well, have an above average setup: HD 6850, Phenom II x4 @3.4 and 8gb RAM. 3mbps connection.

You might not need it and I can only wonder why. But obviously most of us do. You are not getting punished.
You can’t look at it that way. Have you heard of fidelity programs? If you have certain time using a product or are among the first people to ever use it, you get a thankful notification from the company. It might be a letter or a free article. Its not supposed to be expensive, but to show greatfulness for support and loyalty. This is very used on Europe.

If a player was not there when certain events happened, who’s to blame? Are new players who don’t have the “Volunteer” tittle being punished? When your account get its 1st year gift, are new players being punished by it?

Punishing is not an issue here.

In ten days it will be a year. I had chased Guild Wars 2 since they reveleaded the Elementalist. I was there on the first beta, on the second, on the third. I was there on headstart.

On the launching day I recieved the newcomers. My friends and I saw the Karkas head on Lion’s Arch, tracked the Shadow of the Mad King, got to meet Tixx on his ship for Wintersday…I was there to stop the Molten Alliance and returned to Southsun Cove to save the refugees.

My adventure began when Guild Wars 2 opened its doors and still goes on. Its been a great time and for that I’m very thankful. These guys have done an extraordinary job, the best job in my opinion.

However…knowing that my character’s birthday is the very same as the game…I cannot help but to want something to communicate this to people. I want them to know I was there.

Soon, everybody will have a mini Queen Jennah, even those who start playing on the 19th…And I ask: Will we, the 1st players EVER get some love from Anet?

I really, really hope you are planning to make something special for us. A title, an unique item, whatever. We just want something to show we were there. So please…we deserve it.

Very nice indeed.
I was thinking on a way of integrating these kind of stories into the game and its actually very complicated. Doing a cutscene must be a lot of work.

So I’m glad we have these posts so whoever is into it can read. A lot of my friends won’t bother reading them (they even skip cutscenes haha). But I can say I’m 100% into it.

Like I said, I like to have windows on 1920×1080, but I just can’t play gw2 like that!

Hi there.

Is it possible to adjust the resolution of Windowed Full Screen?

My card is not very powerfull but my screen is huge. So I have my desktop on 1920×1080 but when I play GW2 on windowed full screen it takes up that same resolution (it takes what Window’s desktop is set to) and I cannot play like that because of low FPS.

So, I want my desktop to be 1920×1080 while my Gw2 must be 1360×768. Any tricks for this?

Soon they will make something like:

“Random Skin box: get a random skin from this chest 100% guaranteed”.

Then will fight against that as well, until they make it:

“Assured skin box: get one skin ticket from this box and nothing else 100% guaranteed”.

Then people will be happy. As it goes, day per day RNGs are losing more costumers, it won’t be long before the buying population is halved. Just remember: DO NOT BUY RNG BOXES.

Or you could run p/d and just use #3 to get away? Seriously, you have a ton of range increasing skills on top of stealth. Sometimes you just have to combo skills together instead of just blindly pressing them to get some magical effect. You have 2 sets of weapons and 3 utilities, figure out a way to do it instead of just asking for a blind buff. And god forbid you have to be patient and wait to use an ability instead of just blindly using it to get the bonus from it…

So, your options if I’m not mistaken are:

1- Equip one weapon set I don’t have any use for just for the sake og recovering my already hard to earn distance from my target.
2- Steal then stealth and get away, and unlike any other class, having to use a complementary skill to make up for the lacks of my mechanic.
3- Wait. For what? I don’t exactly know. I just wait. Maybe if I wait long enough people will stop spamming their skills and let me steal them and then retreat to my original distance so we can start fighting again. Maybe, if they are polite enough, they will let me shoot first.

1) P/P has black powder and daze, both viable options to get in and out safe, Shortbow #5 gets you out, P/D you can CnD or use #3, option are options use them
2) You do realize that to land half of our abilities on a moving target a guardian is almost required to use Judge’s intervention to do it? RoW, Zealot’s embrace, ZD, WW, All of them are easy to just walk away from, and require that specific gap closer to have pretty much any chance of landing. I think you can suffer through 1 ability requiring a secondary skill.
3) I don’t know, try not stealing into a WW or mighty blow or any other insert generic burst skill here? Most people use them pretty frequently, its not that hard to just not steal while they are up. For a class that has the best mobility and escapes, you sure to fret about possibly going into melee range on what, a kitten cd? And if you can keep someone away from you 100% of the time anyways, why would you need that steal anyways?

The main reason why you steal is not for the item you get but for the initiave you regain. When thiefs steal is because they are out or almost out of initiave, so using a high consuming skill like Daze before you steal is not viable because you will be spending 4 PI to gain 3. And on top of that you will lose the gap.

You either steal for closing gaps when melee or you need IP. Conditions, damage or life steal are not strong enough reasons, specially in PvP. While the item you get has a 45% of being of any use, so I won’t count it either.

You know what? I won’t even reply to you anymore. Go play a Thief and come back after 100 hours of playing it. Like a great fighter once said:

“Everybody has a plan until they get hit.”

Or you could run p/d and just use #3 to get away? Seriously, you have a ton of range increasing skills on top of stealth. Sometimes you just have to combo skills together instead of just blindly pressing them to get some magical effect. You have 2 sets of weapons and 3 utilities, figure out a way to do it instead of just asking for a blind buff. And god forbid you have to be patient and wait to use an ability instead of just blindly using it to get the bonus from it…

So, your options if I’m not mistaken are:

1- Equip one weapon set I don’t have any use for just for the sake og recovering my already hard to earn distance from my target.
2- Steal then stealth and get away, and unlike any other class, having to use a complementary skill to make up for the lacks of my mechanic.
3- Wait. For what? I don’t exactly know. I just wait. Maybe if I wait long enough people will stop spamming their skills and let me steal them and then retreat to my original distance so we can start fighting again. Maybe, if they are polite enough, they will let me shoot first.

This may change with the trait changes, but you can increase your steal range with VI in trickery.

Or do you mean literally that you want to do away with the shadowstep, and just steal bundle skill from them at range? I’d be against that personally.

We need two Steals:

F1: Shadowstep to your target and steal a random item, etc (Stays the same)
F2: Throw a Scorpion Wire to your target and steal a random item
OR at least:
F2: Shadowstep AWAY from your target etc, etc

Steal is great from close combat Thiefs. If you are using D/D then you chase victims around with it, close gaps and don’t allow him/her to run for his life or range you. However, when the situation is reversed, it becomes useless:

There’s a champion in front of you and you naturally equip your ranges. In that situation Steal becomes strategically useless since using it means you will have to leap to an opponent that might very well kill you if he gets a hold of you. You gotta ask yourself: Should I risk my life in Stealing him for three initiave points/ a couple of boons/ some life steal/ some damage?

I think that question answers itself…

Not being a thief myself, and I’m sorry if this comes off as insulting, but um, learn to time the steal between attacks/moments of weakness so you don’t get your face bit off? Most mobs in this game have very predictable AI and HUGE tells for their massive damage skills, It isn’t that hard to avoid.

As far as other players, try timing a headshot/black powder cast to reduce risk of injury? Or just steal from then when they get close with a gap closer anyways.

Sounds like a good suggestion when you are not who is bound to it. It’s just plain contra-productive. Also, what about PvP? Should I wait for you to finish skill 1, steal you and roll back before you press skill 2 when I had you 20 feets from me and was doing the same damage?

My life or strategy shouldn’t be at risk when using my profession skill! It should be helpfull and resoursefull, not limitating!

I was excited when I read that Necros were getting a new Mechanic-bount skill, (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-skill-and-trait-changes/) I thought we had a chance, but no. We did not.

Anet…we seriously need to be able to steal from a certain range….

Everytime I’m playing P/P (which is my favorite style) and I have to shorten my 15 meters of distance from my target in order to use Steal…and then I just land at his feet and get steam rolled or badly injured…I feel so bad inside…

Why should a ranged player have to rush to his victim?? It makes no sense…

In my opinion something as simple a “Scorpion Wire” renamed to “Steal Wire” would work. Just a line-of-sight skill that throws a cable or something and steals from your target without having to get closer to it…

We need this!

How many lifes will have to be sacrificed so NCsoft/Nexon stops the selling of RNG? So many disgusted customers, so much anger and dissapointment, so much rage quiting and mother cursing…

All that when getting a weapon skin should be a pleseant experience. Just like when you bought Rox’s quiver or Braham’s set…lay down money for a limited skin that shall never return…lay it down for sure. Get it. Treat your character like a Barbie doll and dress it up…

Not coming to the forums and finding out its a 1/100 chance and a MAJOR invesment to get a skirt and saying out loud, in a personal whisper for yourself: 1/100 chance? Flock you Anet. Flock YOU.

What is the community meant to do? Start one of those pledges and get 100k signs for you to stop the RNG?

Canach's Mutation? Radical Change

Canach’s look has indeed undergone a major change since The Lost Shores, and I regret that there isn’t more background available regarding how it happened, but let me address the question here: his change in appearance is almost entirely due to the hardships he’s endured since he escaped Lionguard custody. He’s a fugitive from justice, he’s had Noll’s freelance decommission teams trying to kill him, and he’s utterly alone, so it’s been a tough couple of months for the sylvari fugitive.

Being on the run, fighting for his life, and killing the killers sent after him have weathered Canach; plus, he made a concerted effort to change his look (hairstyle, etc.) so as not to be recognized and arrested by the Lionguard. It’s quite a come down from the high position and status he enjoyed as a secondborn (even if that status was never as high as he thought it should be), and his new, grimmer look is meant to reflect the psychological toll he’s had to pay as well as the physical one.

As for the flaming gauntlets, remember that Canach is a seasoned combat veteran and an experienced guerilla fighter with a fairly twisted sense of what’s right. When he heard about the Molten Alliance refugees resettling on Southsun Cove, he saw a chance to help other Consortium victims and get even with Noll. But like a good soldier, he wanted to understand the situation in which he was about to involve himself, so he made a point of seeking out one of the Molten Alliance weapons facilities and clearing it. He obtained the gauntlets from that escapade and wears them now as a symbol of his newly adopted (and so far poorly executed) role as a champion of the weak…right before he set out for Southsun Cove to settle things with Noll.

There’s a lot of people interested in the story aspects of Gw2. The PvE players and Roleplayers pay close attention to that kind of things that pull the story together. So it intrigues me that you mentioned that “I regret that there isn’t more background available regarding how it happened”. It’s not like you have to pay for posting on Gw2’s Site, so I think I speak on behalf of everyone here: Don’t allow information to pass by. Post them. May it be a small story like the ones we are accostumed, or maybe a few more blocks of text. People who afe trully interested will read them. Pretty please :P.

I’m going to watch the whole thing, I promise. If it’s one thing this game needs, it’s some machinima support.

First suggestion though, break the video down into parts. An hour long youtube video is a chore. Think of 15 to 20 minutes max per part, with a structure of three acts overall and a coherent beginning, middle, and end in each of the smaller videos.

Hi guys.

This is a project I’ve been working on my free time for all of us to enjoy. I did it thinking that everybody deserves to know of the history that the players and the staff at Arenanet are building. Events that changed the course of our online world forever and a history that otherwise would be lost.

I tied together the events in the entire Fire and Frost saga to my character, looking at them in a personal and maybe different way and going all the way to the end. Sadly, I was not able to round all of the little details in the story, because it would be hours to no end. It’s not much I confess, but I hope you like it. And maybe, in a year or two, when a new friend or a nephew or perhaps even a new girlfriend joins you in the game and Frostbite has become this huge devourer, you will tell them: “Hey, want to see when Rox and Frostbite met?” and will link them to my video.

I’ll try to make more videos and improve in the process!
