So... Dungeon Finder?

Not a fan of Dungeon finder like in Rift, I hope they dont go that route. Dungeons are not faceroll enough like in those other games that make a dungeon finder into a good solution. However a LFG feature with more bells and whistles would be very welcome.

Do you remember when the game is started and the areas had a lot of player? I want it back!

What is “so few” though? The poster right above you considers anything under 10 a “small group” unable to do some group events and such a force is plenty for most events in the game … it might not be enough for the few events requiring high participation but its certainly not a small group. Personally I see the need for zones to have a certain population but running around in a mob of 20 most of the time lost its appeal really fast while leveling “with the crowd”…

Group events are too easy

Well level-scaling needs to be adjusted. I want to be slightly more powerful then the level-appropriate characters at best, not the faceroll mode that going into a 50 or below zone is right now.

The other thing is event scaling needs to be tuned, many events are simply no challenge at all once you have 8 or more players around. It seems to me the scaling just adds monsters or additional waves? It should upgrade some of them to veteran (or even champion depending on player count), and add some different types of monsters that use other tactics (add some archers to a melee wave etc).

Diminishing returns need to go.

I would like DR removed OR clearly pointed out inside the game. The former is a pipe dream. So lets focus on the latter: if a player is being hit by diminishing returns the drops that are withheld by the DR should be replaced by something that has a tooltip explaining the situation. I dont want to wonder if I am already in the DR frame or just hitting a dry spell on drops. I dont want to time my playing to the minute and switch areas at the right time before the DR. If I get something like the ruined plant fibers from logging with the wrong axe at least I know its time to leave.

Every Scepter #1 Hit Should Summon a Clone

Mastruq.2463

I am in favor of the first autoattack causing a condition, so the clones created by it are more useful (they are currently useful for shatters, distraction and so on). Preferably that would be confusion, balanced in duration to account for a clone or two using it alongside you. If confusion is really too strong use another condition, or give it a random mix of 2 or 3. Maybe confusion or daze or chill on hit, since they all have the shared theme of messing with the target’s skills.

Lower the price of Character Slots

in Suggestions

Mastruq.2463

I see no problem with the price of character slots. Usually the argument is based created for storage reasons anyway, that’s not the point of character slots, although they are (ab)used for that. If you want to discuss character slots on a “cents per storage slot” basis you need to re-examine your options, and possibly be less of a pack rat =P

On the other hand, if you want to make another character to play it, the cost seems fine considering you can play 5/8 classes already with the base game, most players wont like a few classes so normally you need none or few extra slots. At worst its 3 if you want one of each class, and you dont need them all now.

Please whatever you do to combat the market development, do not make legendaries easier, cheaper or faster to get. They need to be able to be worth the title and not turn into a default that every player that bought the game owns within two months.

Some of the above suggestions are awesome though, especially the idea of some instanced story involvement instead of the simple gold and material hoarding they are now. Look to the Everquest 1 epic weapon quests, those were pretty awesome 10 years ago (would have to update concepts to 2012 mechanics of course).

Can you combine a type of lesser, more common lodestones into the expensive ones (no idea really, havent looked into those recipes too much)? If not mybe that would be the idea, make a common lodestone fragment that drops more often but you need to combine up 100 to make a full lodestone. That way at least you feel some progress from farming.

Question: Are players buying gold from 3rd party sources being banned along with the seller acccounts when a ban wave happens?

I am convinced that they cannot stamp out the botting by just banning the bot accounts every other week. Many hacked accounts are abused for botting and even the loss of their own accounts is planned for by the bot owners. But imagine if every other week many gold buyers would be banned too. That would make gold buying to risky for most players very quickly, and when the demand dries up the botting will go down as well simply because it is less profitable.

The downside is the loss of actual customers instead of just bots, I guess, but since the buyers are the true reason for all the bot problems I say good riddance. Maybe if a permanent ban is considered too severe they should get a 1 month suspension. Suspending an account for 24 or 72 hours just doesnt do it, if that happened to me I would just do whatever else in those 3 days, and I might not even notice a 24h ban before it is lifted.

The part you are all missing is that the problem must obviously come from class design, since the OP (and friends!) are better players then the mentioned thief. That’s a known fact and should be the basis of this discussion.

Really though, my suggestion would be to actually play a thief (and not just 10 minutes) to learn their weaknesses, that you probably just werent aware of. Otherwise sure he could have run away but not killed or posed a threat to 5 coordinated players.

I would be happy with more utilities that are intended to be used in most/every fight as an extension of your weapon setup, instead of the 40-200 second emergency buttons. In that vein I would also like basic weapon skills to be balanced with that assumption. 40+ second cooldown skills have no business hogging one of those precious 5 slots (should be utilities then, despite that contradicting with my other concern, its better having the choice on utilities then being forced into it on a weapon).

The ideal change without massive rebalancing would be to give 1 additional utility slot and some short cooldown utilities, and give each weapon 1-2 more skills that are switchable for into any slot position of that weapon. Preferably one with auto-attack capability so you have an alternative there.

I find many parts of the game too easy, especially when it comes to outdoor content, and twice so when I am in a lower level area (level-adjusted of course). The game felt better during Beta weekend #2 as far as difficulty of PVE is concerned.

I dont think Anet would go back to making outdoor PVE harder across the board, but I hope the concerns are heard and they make new areas (caves, hidden valleys etc) that feature a higher difficulty, denser veteran monster count and a champ here and there for those that want to challenge themselves with 2-3 players outside of the structured environment of a dungeon.

I’m no fan of the trash-trash-trash-Boss-trash-trash-Boss-trash-End_Boss linearity of modern dungeons. Ideally Anet would add some non-instanced dungeons comparable to Guk, Sebillis or the old version of Blackrock Depths+Spire (but not instanced) to the game .

15 different enemies or 5 events seem to be the last hurdle every time. That ijs ok obviously something has to be the last thing on the list. Knowing that you can plan for it though. Keep a few spots in mind where you most often find an event going or can trigger it yourself (collecting skale eggs in Queensdale is mine), and simply have a second character in a very different area you log into for those last 3-4 monster types, gets that done within 2 minutes.

Why is their limit on bank storage purchases?

I hope they adjust the amount to something unrealistic like 20 tabs, or give the option to increase the size of the tab with gems as well. There’s a workaround anyway so increasing storage means more money for Anet. I think that’s good. While I am not at the limit yet I probably will be within a few months, being a packrat with armor sets and all.

P.S. accusations of being a gold buyer just because someone fills his bank are petty, think before you post.

I’m fine with fun being the only reward for things like keg brawl. If you do want to add incentives then make sure they arent the “grind it x times for item y kinda deal”. And make the incentives diverse, like a mix of achievements (already got that there), and give out free booze for it and other gimmicks for the coming activities. Town clothes are missing in general so maybe this is a good way to add some, they could be activity related in style.

I tried for 20 or 30 minutes and decided it wasn’t fun. According to the designer it was designed to have 95% failure rate. Apparently he didn’t make it hard enough. I don’t particularly enjoy this brand of console game so I don’t play them.

That said some people do enjoy them and good for them. I think it should have been shoved off somewhere in the corner of the world where people who want to prove how ‘leet they are can go do so. I don’t think an event designed for mass failure should have been a central feature of the Halloween experience.

For the condescending people claiming that people that didn’t find it fun should try one more time. Try and understand that I did not find it fun, if I ever did succeed I would not feel accomplishment I would feel stupid for having wasted that much time on something I didn’t enjoy.

Notice that I’m not calling for it to be nerfed, removed or anything else. At most I suggest it be shoved off into a corner like it deserves.

I find the tone of this post very passive-aggressive… but looking past that and at the content of your post, they did exactly what you wanted. The tower IS shoved off into some corner. Nobody even gets there without going to the labyrinth first and then asking an npc for a port to the tower.

I did really enjoy the event, one of the best holiday MMO patches imo. I found it a bit short, should run a full two weeks i think. I was out of town for some of it and skipped an act due to that. You’ll never account for every vacation but two weeks is not too long for an event either.

I think the Mad King armor set should definitely have a unique skin. No doubt about that, its the only dissapointing thing about the event for me.

The event seems VERY focused on random rare drops. That’s actually fine with me, but I would prefer if there were some costly but definite goals to work towards while farming the rare drops. This time the intermediate stuff was all for the crafting. Would have liked a Mini pet you get from the forge for like 50 of each rare ingredient and 1000+ candy (however you make the candy part possible, maybe 4x 250 makes a big bag of candy first).

Hair clipping with the witch hat has to be fixed!

I think a good quick fix that doesnt require as much effort as the suggestions above would be to make more and more monsters veteran the more player you have at the event. Mad Mems: only for high level characters

Takatsu is not about being spoon fed everything. There are various ways to make something fun or harder without having to throw the lower levels into 30-40-50-60 zones.

As I see it the completed memoirs are intended for mid level characters. I conclude that from the placement of the various memoir chapters in mid level zones. I am glad A.net did not slap required levels on the quest so someone that wants to get help from friends has a chance at getting it this year instead of waiting for halloween 2013.

Sadly too many players see it differently. I just hope when they design the next holiday events A.net decides to go with level requirements instead of restricting their designs to the newbie zones to make sure every level 5 can get there.

Was it ever mentioned anywhere that you had to be a high level character to complete this quest? I now find out I wasted all my time spent on this over the last week. Boo on Anet, and thanks for nothing.

I like that the event takes you to different zones, it was more fun that way. I dont understand where the sense of entitlement of every low level mules comes from suddenly, the game had content you cant do at lower levels, the events are no different. Do the stuff with characters that are high enough, get help from other players or if you actually dont have a character high enough enjoy the rest of the game since there is plenty of it left, and do the rest of the event next year.

If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mastruq.2463

Mastruq.2463

The downscaling is one of the best features of Guild Wars 2. I can play with friends that are not my level with any of my characters without turning the content into a boring instant mass destruction laser show. I can explore zones I missed while leveling without being bored to tears because monsters basically roll over dead as soon as I am in range. Add to that the global currencies gold and karma dont scale too badly, and you have one brilliant addition to the genre (you obviously get worse returns in lower areas then doing Orr, at least its something).

I hate how in other MMOs most content becomes entirely useless and boring even if you go do it just because you outleveled. Truth is the downscaling could be more effective, because at level 80 with rare or better gear and and full traits, the lower zones are too easy even while downleveled. I hope they twiddle with the scaling a bit in the future.

Personal Story Difficulty Unacceptable

in Personal Story

Posted by: Mastruq.2463

Mastruq.2463

I found most of the personal story (for a human mesmer) had acceptable difficulty, with it getting actually easier with the 50-80 steps. Only one I considered very difficult ( beatable solo but I did die twice) was the one in Divinities reach about stopping the grizwhirl. And that one was tuned down later on.

Alot of the early difficulty comes from not being familiar with the class and the game mechanics (one shots you can avoid with dodge etc). I’m happy with the difficulty in general as experienced so far.

If the concern is about specific missions its probably best to single them out in a seperate thread instead of this general complaint about difficulty. That way people that did them can chime in on their experience with that particular mission.

Mesmers, Engineers, PvE DE Tagging, PvP effectiveness

I think the mesmer could need some more fast ae capability, but within the class and not tacked on. A good way would be to speed up the movement of illusions after a shatter, and/or increase the projective travel time of staff attacks, esp the bounces.

Remove vulnerability from the staff autoattack

in Mesmer

Posted by: Mastruq.2463

Mastruq.2463

Increasing the attack speed and the projectile travel speed should be high on the list for staff fixes (same for scepter really). That aside, replacing the vulnerability with poison is the most useful suggestion here I think. With 3 random conditions, each should be considered useful on its own merit. The damaging conditions do that, snaring conditions would be very useful too. Vuln(1) just doesnt amount to much, so if they want to keep it increasing the duration *and" making it vuln(2) would go a long way towards making it seem less insignificant.

Throw my vote in the hat for fixing the misc bugs and oversights like ground traveling projectiles, different bounce counts and condition durations of course, but even with that I think the suggested changed would be needed. There is a following that says we have versatility and must have downsides, but imo other classes have plenty versatility too and arent forced to deal with so much inconsistency and lack of polish.
