If bought some and didn’t get a single new dye. Again I was fooled into the RNG real money trap.

You are the reason we cant have nice things =(

If they gate something behind the RNG wall, do not buy it if you want them to use the RNG wall less often in the future. Vote with your wallet and all that jazz.

Topic on End Game

Endgame in the way most people use it is asking for raids simply because most people grew up on WoW by now, and all you have there is raidgame or pvp-point grind.

I wish they would add more small explorable open world dungeons with a chest at the end. Not a pure jumping puzzle but a mix of real puzzle elements (pressure plates, switches, trapdoors etc) with challenging combat, time pressure due to respawns and some precarious jumping shortcuts. Put a nice chest at the end and voila.

I wish they would add different additional rare loot by region (Ascalon, Kryta, etc) so it actually matters a bit in which part of the world you are (could be equipment with skins that only drop there, region-appropriate mini pets, etc).

GW1 actually had specific rare drop skins you could farm for a long time, something GW2 has discarded in favor of the WoW token grind. Is that better or not, I dont know. Endgame is certainly lacking something.

They’ have other options for cosmetic rewards besides what they use currently, too (item skins is all they do cosmetics-wise). There arent any alternate visual skill effects you can acquire through playing, for example.

yea one player is nice but actually solo players have the outdoor world to explore and play in that ranges from very easy to kinda easy (sorry no hard content, wish there was). However, people that want to play with 1-2 friends have NO interesting content at all unless they want to tackle the instances designed for 5 players (which might work on some, to a degree, but is not practical).

So instead of your suggestion for more solo content, I want content tuned towards 3 players. That fills the content void between the solo player and the 5-player group.

Dont cling to such a pipe dream, you’ll only get bitter from the dissapointment. After the Halloween and Lost Isles backlash, you can bet they would have made it known if they planned on another way distribute those skins. The flavor text blurb doesnt indicate it either, its just a blurb of flavor about dismantling the source of the upgraded monsters we fought throughout this story arc.

I think complaining about the treadmill comes a couple of months late, doesnt it? They added ascended items (for the record, I own none) half a year and havent added another tier, nor expanded ascended item into armor or weapons. Its pretty obvious that if they stick with the current speed its less of a treadmill and more of a slight incline.

Any of them become easy to navigate and familiar if you spend some time there. And if you dont spend time there, why care about the map design there?. I really like the diversity and size of the cities (considering you can wp anywhere in them anytime, i think bigger is better).

I agree that the heavy focus on LA should be changed towards providing interesting reasons to visit the other cities.

A lot of people (including myself) prefer that there be no trinity, it saves time on making groups since you don’t have to wait for specific classes that nobody likes playing, well, except for a few (monks).

Then how do you explain advertisements like “need 1 more mesmer” or “only warriors”?

The loss of the holy trinity has its pros and its cons, and there are times where the cons severely outweigh the pros, especially when some classes have underwhelming dps compared to warriors or mesmers (aka necros).

There are always people in every single game who absolutely MUST do things most efficiently. They feel somehow they’re wasting time if a boss battle takes 7 minutes instead of 5. I’m not one of them and a lot of other people aren’t too.

The difference between a trinity system and what we have here is that in other games, you absolutely MUST have a tank and you absolutely MUST have a healer. There is no alternative.

Here there is. I run dungeons all the time, and almost never run with a warrior. My guild is mostly engies, necros, rangers, guardians and mesmers…with a couple of eles. And we run dungeons all the time…and beat them.

Try that with a trinity.

For what it’s worth, Everquest was a “omg the evil holy trinity” game, and the most memorable and fun dungeon runs were those where you didnt have the trinity. So you can do that in a trinity game just the same (unless you are one of those efficiency people).

What if PvE was very difficult?

I’d love if the open world wasnt so faceroll boring.

Imo they should introduce whole areas in the maps that more difficult to tackle to provide content for people that still enjoy a good challenge instead of the optimal path to their points. GW1 had the higher difficulty mode, but I find that ill-suited for a persistant world such as GW2. Instead have caves, canyons or islands that are harder to beat (either more opponents, more veterans, difficult to handle abilities, challenging environment, etc).

Re: keeping it for dungeons/fractals only: thats very scripted content specifically for designed for 5 people. I’d love to play an open world area with 1-2 friends without falling asleep.

Re: Orr was like that. True but Orr wasnt just a side area it was pretty much the whole endgame, and that was the issue. If you let the difficult and easy content exist side by side everyone can pick their prefered meal. Southsun cove has a better difficulty but is very barren and one-dimensional, unfortunately. Lets hope it improves soon.

guild bounty tier 2+ impossible!

in Dynamic Events

They have different tiers for a reason. Depending on guild size and commitment you can complete the more difficult ones and get more points, working as intended (and requiring more scouts and organization IS more difficulty, even if the bounties dont have more hp through it). So if you find your guild isnt cut out for tier 2 or 3 work on the one you can do and sometimes organize attempts at the higher tiers when you can muster the needed players.

Re: Solo friendly – Except for the very final mission in a story arc spanning from character creation to its conclusion everything was soloable. Thats soloable enough really, I dont begrudge one group mission throughout all that, after all this is a MMORPG.

What I want to see in the future: I want to see more independent chapters that each character can choose to do or skip. You could only skip the last chapter simply because there is none behind it so far and end your story prematurely, but not joining an order wasnt possible. I liked that about the living story, if I wanted to help one those npcs I could do that and skip the other one, or do both, or none.

So several mostly independent chapters that maybe sometimes weave through each other is what I want to see.

Buff all low level world bosses

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Mastruq.2463

Mastruq.2463

80s arent two-shotting any of the bosses, the issue is broken scaling. The 80s there are stronger then an appropriate level character, but not that much since they are downscaled. But if the encounter only scales properly until 20 players are reached, 40 players are going to make it a faceroll no matter their level.

A.net needs to allocate resources to improving the scaling mechanics in the game. That includes upscaling event difficulty (both the big fights as well as your regular events, those are faceroll with 10 players too), as well as ensuring the downscaled players are at a proper power level (slightly too strong atm, imo).

. There are numerous skills to allow players to outrun mobs if we don’t want to fight them, these periscopes force players to deal with them when they are trying to do something else.

If you didnt pay enough attention and run into a periscope while traveling (guilty myself, tend to read chat or organize bags while running) you get knocked back out of its radius by the first or second attack. At that point you just circle around it. Is that “being forced to deal with them”? If yes then lets agree to disagree because to me thats not a big deal. No different then avoiding a cluster of ettins because they are annoying, or circumvent the missing bridge that was destroyed in an event, etc.

Edit: when I was scouting Diessa for the guild bounty I simply took the changes into account and used 1-2 utility slots on stability. Yea that is adapting to the current situation in the area I am traveling through, but to me thats is a good thing. Everything being always the same and predictable gets boring.

Its direct feedback to what they are doing and that can only help with improving the game, as long as they also stick to their design document and not just implement the latest forum fad.

A new cave complex with a story instance inside in which you beat back the Molten Alliance and free the prisoners. I think the conclusion of the instanced story line is a given.

The cave complex should be a fairly large industrious area, maybe include a jumping puzzle or at least some jumping elements. It remains in game after the chapter ends in a defeated state, with an event chain or two to stop the MA from re-organizing. Essentially this is the lasting effect the living story had on this section of the shiverpeaks.

Edit: I’d love an actual real dungeon located inside that cave. It can have a story mode (concluding the two npc stories) and a defeated explorable mode like all other dungeons, fits perfectly. However I remember reading that this arc will not feature a new dungeon?

How are you suppose to get 150 audio logs?

in Flame and Frost

I dunno, seems easy enough to me. There are 50 periscopes you can pick up daily, so to describe the extremes:

- do all 50 on 3 days during the month
- pick up 6 of them on 25 days during the month

Both solutions seem less effort then seeking out and completing enough jumping puzzles to me, although everyone of course has their own preference.

Personally I’m just playing normally and see how many logs I end with (got 80ish now) and might have to do a round through their spawns on the last weekend to get the last few to 150.

Technical and programming issues aside, this just begs for player exploitation. You are aware of the spawn window, be there early enough and wait a bit.

As much as everything now appears like it is supposed to be on-demand content due to 3rd party timer websites, that wasnt the intention and catering to it by Anet would be a bad move imo.

Granted that is true, however it doesn’t change the fact that it is happening and because of that many players are having to forsake doing a META event because of the masses of people on the map.

So are we happy to say “Not gonna work” and accept that it’s going to be the case from now on… or shall we work on making a suggestion for AN to look into?

Well everyone can have their own opinion about it, mine is that “not gonna work” as you suggest is acceptable.

I am currently farming ectos and catch every bonus event I can get, and yea in the evenings I miss one to overflow here and there. That is ok, I’m not entitled to every bonus chest on every day. Nobody has to chase every bonus chest spawn (that is what brought this situation upon us, combined with websites metagaming the event timers). If you WANT to chose every bonus chest, be in the zone early enough, and accept the fact that miss one to overflow from time to time.

Chest Loot Timer, anti-melee or just dumb?

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: Mastruq.2463

Mastruq.2463

The rage aside he does have a point, and its not limited to melee. The despawn timer on the rewards from the world chest is too short. Having to weave through triple serpent shots and jotun knockbacks in the attempt to loot the first bauble makes me not want to do chests. The problem already annoyed me with wintersday but I figured its not worth bringing up. However if they use the same method for this and possibly further events (down to the same spawn points), they should increase the despawn timer for the reward item.

Of course you can give suggestions to avoid knockback, adds or choosing other skills, but there is really no harm done by letting them stay a minute longer and the whole matter would be off the table, no complaints. The “for fun” temporary content should not be aggravating (unless its a JP, then all bets are off)

Also annoying: the already close to despawn baubles being on/near a dead npc or harvest node so you cant pick it up before rezzing/harvesting, and by then its gone.

Mastruq.2463

I agree that the living story is a new approach and personally I enjoy it now that it gets into swing (parts 1 + 2 were too small). I assume there WILL be new permanent content as the OP is asking for at the end of the chapter. The new homestead in wayfarer foothills at least because they arent gonna wipe it off the map. My guess would be once this chapter closes the doors are opened and you have a heart, skill challenge and so on inside. I expect the same to happen to southsun, gradually (there are changes with this patch for example).

I understand your concern because obviously thats less permanent content then putting 100% of the dev time into a full new zone. But they tried that with southsun originally and it kinda fell flat. Lets give them till their anniversary to get the living story chapters into full swing and judge from there.

Finally I want to make a comparison to another game (omg how dare I do that): WoW back when I played many years ago would have a content patch every 5-10 months with a new dungeon/raid, outpost and some hearts+events (quests). Thats it. If every chapter of living story ends with a new outpost like this homestead and some content revolving around that, we’re halfway there. if you keep in mind that they already added a permanent dungeon style thing (fractals) then imo the first year is on course so far.

Lotro did something similar with a town called Hytbold recently. Not well implemented there, but I liked the idea. No reason this concept couldn’t work in GW2 as you say, especially if the players could contribute to it’s construction. I like Southson and this would give the island a real boost. They could easily wall of a section of the island that would be protected against the Karka.

Turning the island into something like the place from the King Kong movie, good idea. We could sacrifice Asura to keep the great Karka calm.

Mastruq.2463

I like that they intend to have challenging open world content, its one of the main reasons for playing PVE in this game imo. I can do dungeons in various other games, the outdoors being interesting and worthwhile is what sets GW2 apart in PVE.

That said I am in favor of a better reward structure. Not sure if guaranteed rares are the way to go, but guaranteed masterwork items with a good chance at rare/exotic, plus more coin/karma for the DEs that require more time/coordination/effort is needed.

Personally I am also in favor of making the big DEs more uncommon. This might rub people the wrong way but I feel dragons every 3 hours takes away from their awesomeness. Having them on a say 9-13 hour timer allows for a dragon per day, so even if some of them are on a timer that doesnt fit your schedule you can get the other one.

When they announced Orr back before beta it really sounded more grand then it turns out to be, and I hope they take another shot at difficult, interconnected DEs with a specific end goal event thats truly massive and requires teamwork and coordination. Something guilds do together.

From an immersion point of view this bother me greatly, and they could have avoided it more. You can have plateaus with a guaranteed death drop as a zone border for example, or large lakes with the “strong current” solutionswe have in the oceans. using the mountains method in almost every case is a lazy solution. Since they went that way though they could at least havve made some mountains broader to have some non-square zones. I hope this aspect of world design improves in the future.

As a tangent to this, does anyone feel lost shores doesnt look right on the map? The isle is just too big and oddly colored to look like it belongs there.

Relative disadvantages in something that matters alor for teams staying together, mobility of the group and so on arent something I really care for. I’m in the “legendary weapons are missed opportunity” camp. Nothing legendary about shelling out a few hundred or thousand gold or farm basic materials for a while then throwing it in the forge in LA. They should’ve called green items something else and these expensive crafted items “masterwork”. That would’ve left the door open to use the “legendary” tag on something that deserves it.

For something to be called legendary they should have at least put in a token effort with some background to learn about the weapon on the intermediate hand-ins and like a trek into a remote location where you fight a veteran to access a special forge to make it. The scavenger hunts for the halloween and lost shores events had more flavor then making a legendary weapon, kinda makes you wonder.

The honest-to-goodness truth is that it earns the company alot of money and thus keeps them employed. That is somewhat obvious. If the question is why they are so mean and dont just sell tem for a fixed price, the answer is there enough rich/foolish/OCD in the 1 million+ playerbase that blow so much money on the RNG that it makes them more money then a fixed price, and it’s hard to convince a company to intentionally make less money then they could.

It’s not impossible though: Change their minds by increasing fixed-price item revenue and reducing RNG-item revenue through your purchases and give it half a year to a year for that change to actually show a trend on their revenue charts and they will start to design more fixed-price items. This responsibility is on everyone here though, as long as enough rich/foolish/OCD people throw money at the RNG, nothing will change.

So to anyone that still spend $50 or $100 on the cristmas RNG even after we witnessed the Halloween and Lost Shores RNG, YOU are the reason they do this. YOU need to change what you are buying so they change what they are selling, not the other way around.

You might not know yet if you havent read up on everything, but the game keeps a low power curve in items and after you get lvl80 (takes a week or two max) and buy/craft the exotic items of your choice, you are done. The only way to further improve your stats, by only a few percent, is to grind 9 small instances over and over (fotm). Creating Legendary items needs to be changed

Let me preface this with stating that I dont have a problem with the costs associated with legendaries. Since they are entirely buyable they need to be very very very expensive to still retain a “wow look at that” factor after the game is out a few months. In the long run they might even be too cheap, we’ll know next christmas if by then everyone has two.

My beef with legendaries is that simply hoarding trade components and farming gold isnt exactly the stuff of legend. I think they should add a quest line similar to a personal story arc to each of them (or more likely, to any new legendaries) that means the player obtaining it has to achieve something besides buying it on the trading post and eqipping.
