phenomenal fun quest

I doubt anyone is going to get the achievement by any other way than buying, actually.

Because you see, I’d like to have the chest, but if I happen to find one of the items and it sells for 800g on the tp, there’s no way I’m not gonna sell it.

So at the end it’s reasonable to assume that the chest will be owned only by the very rich, because an average player can’t pass up the chance to sell a single item for hundreds of gold.

Just a thought.

Maxwell, I just ran a test alt through the human starter quest, and yes…that appears to be true. Also, you open weapon skills by level, rather than by using weapons, so that at the end of the human starter intro, you still only have a single weapon skill.
(…)

Thanks!

Exploring was fun with my first character precisely because I could 100% an area in a single, fluid, experince.
I hate backtraking-style stuff, so no more exploring with new alts I guess

omg, This change won’t really affect us vet MMO gamers who have been playing MMOS for 10+ years. Most of us will fly through the levels so fast these changes won’t mater anyways. Those who are super new to MMOs or totally confused as to how GW2 works compared to a game like (sigh) WoW will have a more accessible game. This is no complaint I’m reading in the OP, this is pure elitism at it’s finest.

I disagree, in particular with the “more accessible game” part.

GW2 was my fist mmorpg.
The game did feel overwhelming during the first hour or so, BUT not because I had a skill bar! To me the quantity of skills was never a problem, and I remember that when my character was low level I wished I had more utilities unlocked, to make the fights more interesting and varied.

What made the game overwhelming was the huge amount of stuff not covered by the tutorial, stuff that I could figure out only thanks to the wiki.

This update “dumbs down” things that for me were never difficult to grasp, while not addressing the things that actually need a Google search.
So, to me, the game now is actually less accessible: not only it still lacks a good and complete tutorial (that was what it needed in the first place), now leveling is a worse experience too.

Calling people you don’t know dumb…. is the reason people like me are telling people to calm down. I most certainly am NOT dumb… and I had a hard time with the learning curve of this game… No, 5 skills is not hard to handle, but it combined with everything else that just kind of poured on top of you at the start was very jarring.

Furthermore, to anyone else who had trouble at the start of this game I am sorry people are calling you dumb because they don’t wanna take the time to empathize with you. Don’t take it to heart, cause its totally rude.

The game at the beginning is overwhelming because the tutorial is not good enough.

That’s the real issue.
The modifications to traits before and leveling now are not a real solution. It’s not a matter of “people need time to get used to skills and mechanic”, it’s a matter of “people need information to better understand how skills and mechanics work”.
Both new players and people that want to level an alt are going to have a harder time.

Lol thanks xD

I amend my previous calculation then:

Assuming you are using Healing Signet (362+0.05xHealingPower) and you have Adrenal Health (117+0.05xHealingPower), and assuming a full adrenaline bar, your total healing per second should be
479+0.1xHealingPower

Which means that, in the best conditions, your loss of 14.93% crit dmg is opposed to an extra 22.4 healing per second.
It doesn’t seem it’s worth it.

Oh, by the way, I looked at the runes that give additional Healing Power, and it seems to me they are not meant to be used by warriors.

  • World Map UI gets reduced by not showing you instantly anymore how much % you already explored of the game from begin on. POI’s won’t be shown to you directly as like also the Vistas won’t be shown to you directly, stuff that will get unlocked later so that players shouldn’t get “overwhelmed” cough too early with too many information that they maybe may not understand directly.
howver, you can still directly interact with them, you just don’t see them directly as a Newbie on the World Map (whatever a sense this should make at all)
  • Material Nodes also won’t be shown anymore directly on the Map. All Low Level Areas have no Material Nodes anymore directly!! He believes, from Level 9 on that your character “learns” then to gather materials first…

If one only switches the 6 armor pieces from Berserker to Zealot, 224 points go from Ferocity to Healing Power (I’m assuming exotic armor, because there’s no way I can ever afford ascended armor).

One gains 1% additional critical damage every 15 Ferocity points, so this switch in gear would net in a 14.93% loss in critical damage.

Assuming you are using Healing Signet (362+0.05*HealingPower) and you have Adrenal Health (351+0.15*HealingPower), and assuming a full adrenaline bar, your total healing per second should be
711+0.2*HealingPower

Which means that, in the best conditions, your loss of 14.93% crit dmg is opposed to an extra 44.8 healing per second.
It doesn’t seem it’s worth it.

I’m sure that healing per second can be made more substantial, but only with an even heavier loss.

How can people buy legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Maxwell.7843

A lot of people horde for whatever reason, but it’s healthy to periodically gut your collections tab in bank and sell it all.

I would tend to agree, but with the caveat “if you are reasonably sure you aren’t gonna need those mats anytime soon, and if their price seems rather stable”

Otherwise you may end up waste quite some time if you decide to level up a crafting profession. Or you may regret making 10 a week ago knowing that you could have made 15 today…
This last thing is particularly true when saving up for a precursor, since they get more and more expensive and gold loses more and more value. Mats on the other end are more likely to keep up with the inflation, getting more expensive and thus “retaining” more value than gold.

PS: my last point has been better discussed on this tread by several other players.

Even right now warriors have lower DPS than guardians.

After the patch, the only two classes that will have lower DPS than warrior will be ranger and necro.

In a group setting, like a dungeon run, what is in your opinion the Warrior’s role?

By that I mean, what’s a Warrior really good at? What does a Warrior do better than any other class?

I’m asking this because I read Nike’s guide, your guide and Element’s guide (and found them all enlightening, so thank you guys all for the time and effort spent on them!), and I was left with the idea that our role as warriors is having a high damage output, a decent capability at stacking vuln, while also boosting the reast of the party with our banners and shouts.

BUT if our personal dps is actually among the lowest, what are we good for?
An engi can stack more vuln then us, an ele can provide might and fury to the party… Are we only useful because of our banners? :-s

Welcome back.

I haven’t been around long enough to know how farming used to be, so I can’t help you on that matter. I do know that there is a champion train in Frostgorge Sound too (I actually had a much better experience in Frostgorge than in Arah: last time I visited the Cursed Shore the whole grup wasted like 30 minutes in the tunnel without getting anything out of it… In the same amount of time you can complete a bunch of dungeon paths with a decent PUG)
So yeah if you’re interested in a champ train check Frostgorge Sound out. There are also trains going on in the Edge of the Mist, i think.

As far as Triple Trouble (and Tequatl) there are some guilds that specifically tackle these two events, more infos here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/triple-trouble-the-power-of-one-guild/page/2#post4350010

Acended Armor: they easiest way to get exactly what you want is probably crafting, keep in mind it’s gonna be expensive. Very expensive, because you’ll need to reach grandmaster level (500) in the crafting discipline.
If you don’t plan on doing high level fractals, stick with Exotic armor and Ascended trinkets.

Living World S1 coming to the journal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Maxwell.7843

I have a question for ANet concerning Season 1 and the journal.

At the beginning of Season 2, the journal system was introduced, and the blog post stated that you guys wanted to implement Season 1 as well.
I just wondered if you could elaborate a little bit more; we (the players) know that Season 1 wasn’t crated with the journal in mind, but that doesn’t really make us aware of the difficulties of implementing the feature.

You see, I really enjoyed my character’s personal story. I really want to play Season 2, but it feels weird without having played Season 1: I created my character during the Festival of the Four Winds, and during the the introductory sequence (the one at the port, with Ellen Kiel and those guys that appear in the cinematic of Scarlet’s death) I felt out of place.
Even after watching the Season 1 recap it feels like I’m missing a lot. Also, S1 really seems like great fun from what i gather from reading the wiki, and this fuels my desire to play it.

Hence I’d like, if possible, some more details on the matter of adding Season 1 to the journal.
I can imagine such an endeavor is not on the easy side, what I’m asking is whether the amount of work is titanic (so I shouldn’t get my hopes up of seeing S1 in a few months, or ever), or if it is something that can be done in a bunch of months and it is being worked on.

Right now I’m postponing going forward with S2 because I wish I could do S1 first, but if you guys tell me it’s unlikely to see it on the journal until several months I’ll just go on, play S2 and “forget” about S1 until it eventually comes out…

To sum it up, I’m not making demands , I’d just like to get out from this “limbo” of uncertainty xD

[Suggestion]Unlockable stats on ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Maxwell.7843

*This is a suggestion. *
For me its pretty good, so read it few times before you will start criticize it.

IDEA

Create elastic gear (since gear has stats) that would work well to help players use many builds, rest them and don’t punish them for mistakes, but help them learn and get better.

HOW?

The idea would be to create Ascended with one stats and then by mixing it in Mystic Forge with: new ascended insignias (so market is balanced), explorable item (scavenge hunt), and some skill points (sink) to unlock that new stats on that ascended weapon.

(…)

This is, in my opinion, a great idea and I would love to see it implemented.

Would it be acceptable to just have Net Profit show as a tooltip when we hover over the other numbers?

No offense, but it seems a bit counterintuitive.

I like the tooltip idea, but I would use in a different way, which I’m gonna explain below.

Right now the NTP shows
1- the price at which you sell the item
2- the listing fee (-5%)
3- the sale tax (-10%)
A lot of users would like to also see
4- the final profit (0.85)

It would be really cool if, by hovering with the mouse over each of these value, a tooltip appeared, explaining what that value is.

The tooltips would read as such, respectively:
1- “This is the amount of coin your buyer needs to pay”
2- “This fee will be subtracted from you wallet, in order to list your item”
3- “This tax will be applied once you sell the item”
4- “This is the neat amount of coin you earn after this sale”

This way even the most clueless new player knows exactly what’s going on!

I would indeed like to see the “final” projected profit when I sell something; I’m glad you guys at Anet are considering it, but a part of me wishes you didn’t decide against it in the first place (since you discussed it).

By the way, thank you Curtis Johnson for taking the time to answer our questions.

I for one love this gathering tool.

I don’t really understand the complaints against it. Almost ALL the items in the gem store offer an extra advantage, or some exclusive capabilities.
The pick is pay2win because it gives a bit of sprockets? Seriously?
Then I guess some of you think that the Copper Fed Salvage-o-matic is also pay2win, since it’s more efficient than the basic salvage kit.
Repair canisters and rez orbs are pay2win since they give you another chance in some situations?
I’m trying to understand here, because it seems to me that according to this same kind of logic, buying gems and converting them to gold is pay2win…

Let’s be realistic and fair. Do many of the gem store items offer some kind of advantage? Yes.
Is it ok? Absolutely. You spend additional money, you get an extra feature that makes life easier. That’s the same principle that gives the “summon wolves” elite to those who bought the deluxe ed.

Pay2win would be something like “ascended items are ONLY available through the gem store”… Or stuff that would give an unfair advantage against other players.

The pick is fine. And actually I wish all the infinite gathering tools sold on the gem store had a similar feature.

Maxwell.7843

Hello Jon Peters.
As I stated previously on this thread, I am a new(ish) player with a single character, that is now lvl 80. I’m glad to provide feedback on this traits issue.

I have never experienced the previous system, so I can’t make comparisons. What I can say is that, to me, unlocking the traits felt more like a chore than a rewarding challenge.

Of course unlocking some of them was kind of painless, but only because I was doing the personal story and I want to get 100% world completion.
Unlocking other traits, though, required patience and/or sheer luck.
In certain cases I had to give up and buy the thing, and from a newbie standpoint it didn’t feel great, because I didn’t have gold to spare. It felt like the trait system was ultimately something for “rich” players.

You ask for specifics on the offensive trait unlock locations; I find myself agreeing with Kain Francois.4328:

X- 100% anything… No, no, no, no!!!! I do not want to do map completion on my 5th alt.
X- Kill Champion X [Group Event] and timegates. Waiting for Champ to spawn, then waiting for people to help…
X- Personal Story Traits… Too little, too late. A possible consequence of traits unlocking at level 30 instead of level 10.
X- “Find the grand chest near Scholar Fryxx.” (Straits of Devastation) This one is just annoying.
X- Any WvW objectives… This is THE worst of all trait unlocks! It combines time gates of waiting until an Ogre Camp expires, so that you could cap it… Then it also has the issue of no one wanted to help out. I’m sure even your own metrics will report that trying to kill the Overgrown Grub is dumb.

That said, I have the strong feeling that the fix is going to revolve around switching the most offensive trait unlock locations. In my opinion that may not be an ideal solution.
I’d much rather have the trait unlock valid for all my future characters: in all honesty one of the reasons I don’t feel like creating a new character is that I don’t look forward to repeating those same events/activities/missions.

So I add my voice to those who ask to please make the traits unlocks “account bound”.

I don’t understand: I read the blog entry about the changes to the commander system, and it doesn’t say anything about paying extra for the colours.

On the other end, I keep reading posts which seem to hint that the information on the post I linked is obsolete… Could someone explain it to me?

They were going to change Tags so they were an account upgrade and refund any bought beyond 3. To balance this they were changing the price to 300g instead of 100g.

They also are going to add new colors. These colors would have been separate compendium books one would have to buy for 300g a pop to unlock the new colors.

We the player-base let Anet know how much of an absolutely “terrible” (I’d use more colorful language were it not for moderation/censorship) idea this was and they Xbox180’d and changed the system so on the 9th we will still be getting the account tags for 300g but they will now include all colors for the one time purchase price. Hence, people are going crazy and buying them up now while they are cheap so they can spam the rainbow then the update comes and save 200g.

Thanks

I am a relatively new player, so naturally I’ve only ever known the current system.
I gotta say, unlocking the traits has been a real chore: I was able to start to experience some build diversity only long after reaching lvl 80.
There are still a couple I’m missing (think “The Long Way Around”…) and I can’t be bothered to spend gold on them since I can’t be certain I’ll ever need them.

Also, thinking that I’ll have to do it all over again for every new character feels disheartening…

I think that this way of unlocking traits is the kind of thing that maybe looked good on paper, but then in practice end up being a hassle.
I get it, it’s supposed to feel rewarding, but instead you actually feel extremely limited.

Reconsider greatsword damage nerf

in Warrior

Posted by: Maxwell.7843

Maxwell.7843

Even though I’m not loosing any sleep over this warrior nerf, I can’t say I love it…

I like PVE, I like doing dungeons with my warrior.

Loosing adrenaline outside of combat? I doesn’t seem too unfair to be honest; I kinda hope it brings more variety, with builds that don’t rely on Berserker’s Power for example, while still being efficient.
Damage nerf on the GS? Not a fan, I wish they left it the way it was, but hey we’ll manage…
Nerfing the Signet of Rage on the other hand seems unwarranted. I mean it’s the only good Elite we have (or had), was it really necessary to make it 5 seconds (16,67%) shorter? :-s

In several threads, people were defending the nerf by saying that other classes have it worse (worse elites, worse survaivability, less balanced this, less balanced that…).
I can sympathize, but I think it would have been better to improve those classes instead of fixing stuff that wasn’t broken.

Also, the “buffs” the warrior is receiving feel a tiny bit like a slap in the face, in the sense that some of the stuff they boosted will keep not being used by anyone in any situation…

My 2 cents on the issue.
