The game is gold based tho… he made 1100g.

he can buy full sets of ascended armor.

He made 1100g from 6 weeks of intensive farming.
Of course a thousand gold is a lot, but let’s put things into context. He spent a lot of time doing this.

Also, through normal playing most players don’t come even close to having that many bags of loot. So you gotta look it that way too: if I play normally, what are my chances of getting some nice loot?

I think that a lot of players that complain about loot, do so because they feel that playing “normally” is not rewarding in terms of loot.
While poor loot is something that right now doesn’t bother me that much (I think I never posted in threads about unrewarding loot), I can understand these players’ point of view.

How many hours did it take to open them all and sort everything out?

I spent over 10 hours on opening them all.

Thanks for answering, and thanks for taking the time to conduct this research, with the drops on the blog and all.

For over hour’s worth of my salaried time, which is roughly $17.50/hour, 24/7/365, I could buy as of the time of this posting one $15 gem card for most of an hour’s worth of my employed time. That’s 1200 gems.

To buy 1200 gems with gold at this moment, I would have to spend 187g 20s.

To convert those 1200 gems to gold, I would make almost an even 120g.
[…]

Can’t argue with maths.
But not all players have disposable income (students, young adults, etc). Moreover, the parallel is bit flawed because playing is something people do in their free time, working has timetables: you can’t phone your boss at 3am and say “hey boss, imma work 1hour now, send me 15€, kthanks gnite”.
So “time is better spent working rather than farming” is not an absolute rule, because the time you spend farming cannot be always converted in time spent working.

Some people can find farming relaxing or fun: in that case it makes sense to do it.

But still, AirimirOfGondor’s idea makes sense, because the content would be permanent only for those making some form of commitment.

I never tried the SAB, and I don’t own the ICC.

I’m absolutely in favour of AirimirOfGondor’s idea. I think that since you guys purchased the coin, you should be able to access the SAB.

The idea seems totally reasonable and I can’t see this as taking away huge amounts of time from HoT, especially since OP is not asking for new worlds, he’s just asking access to already existing content.

EDIT: since the thread was merged, I’ll quote the message I’m talking about

Problem Identified:
People who purchased the Infinite Continue Coin (“ICC”) were only able to use it for, at most, just under 1 month (if they bought it on day 1) back at the start of Fall in 2013 (cite below). That was over 1 year and 4 months ago (as of time of writing 1/31/15).

Solution Proposed:
Click the ICC to take you into the Super Adventure Box lobby, with the ability to play from there. Like the Home Portal Stone(“HPS”).

Pros:
Makes ICC useable for the first time in 1 year and 4 months.
Allow people to access content related to their money/gem store purchase.
No harm/impact to players without the item/not interested in SAB.
No one ever enters the SAB while forgetting to bring the ICC.
New revenue on an old item (see “cons” below).

Cons:
New functionality means players might have bought it but did not way back then.
Sub-solution: Re-release the ICC on the gem store. Fixes this problem and produces new revenue from an old item.

Obstacles:
Will need to apply similar code to the HPS, placing players in the start of the SAB. Work expected to be minimal.

Cite:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infinite_Continue_Coin (ICC description)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Home_Portal_Stone (Already-existing item with desired effect)

Please let me know if I have overlooked something about this idea. I believe the impact on those not interested in the SAB is nearly nonexistent or minimal at the very least. If you like the idea, please show support and maybe it can become a reality. Thank you.

Equipment stats in PvP and WvWvW

in Players Helping Players

Maxwell.7843

In PvP the equipment is cosmetic, and the stats are determined by the pvp amulet. Also, almost all traits are unlocked.
The build panel lets you choose traits, amulet, rune set and sigils.

In WvW you use your PvE equipment, stats and traits. This means traits need to be unlocked and gear (sigils, runes, weapons, armour) must be purchased.
Anything less that exotic gear on a lvl 80 character will very likely make you an easy pray for enemy players.

All sylvari characters are unable to log in, and a pop up warns the player that he is a “suspected Mordremoth sympathizer”.

I strongly advise against erasing your character.
You don’t want to give up a character with all its traits unlocked, trust me.

Every new character you create will start with no traits, and for each of them you will need to either pay gold to buy trait unlocking guides, or do the same tasks over and over (for each character). More information here.

It is worth mentioning that this system will change in one of the future updates. As of yet we don’t know how or when.

As far as the New Player Experience (NPE), since your character is lvl40 you are still going to experience it while leveling from 40 to 80. So no point in erasing your toon and rolling a new one.

Maxwell.7843

I had been thinking for a while of moving my keybindings to the right (even before I incurred in this issue).
Right now my utilities are E(heal) R F(usually a short cooldown skill) C X(elite).
I was thinking to rebind my weapon skills in a similar fashion, and make the profession skills bound to 1234 instead of F1 F2 F3 F4…
I don’t know, I need to give this some thought.

I use the same keybind, but why would that be problematic? It’s annoying, I agree, but it’s not exactly problematic or game breaking.

Not gamebreaking, I agree, it’s just a bit problematic if I end up switching from AxeSword to Longbow and I can’t block.

No doubt some of it is a L2P issue. I probably need more experience to learn how to call for help before the situation gets dire, but sometimes it’s so fast.
It probably doesn’t help that I started playing PvP not long ago, and in unranked I often get paired up with people that ignore mapchat, don’t want to have strategies (the answer to “shall we discuss strategy?” is either no answer, or “we kill them”), don’t peel from lost fights, suicide at far…
To be clear I’m not complaining or saying I’m better, I’m the first to say that there is a lot I still need to learn.

Pretty sure the flame don’t scale but the number of shadows that smother the flames will increase for each additional player.

I tested it in a 2 players party, the number of flames scaled up, only one shadow.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Maxwell.7843

Here’s my issue with the dailies, I’ve been playing for 3 hours now since reset and I’m still at 0 for the daily. I’ve followed the PvE World Bosses train, been gathering, etc. And yet, not one item on the daily. I think if you actively play for 3 hours you should be getting AP for it. AP should increase as players put in work in the game. Right now the AP is too gated and narrow in scope.

Again, dailies are not supposed to be automated. That’s what log-in rewards are.

I wager no one wants dailies to be automated.
A lot of people just want PvE dailies to be as natural (not automated) as PvP and WvW dailies.

If you defend the current state of PvE dailies, than you must dislike WvW and PvP ones, since these two categories are gained through normal playing.
Do you dislike the current PvP and WvW dailies? :-)

So what you – and a lot of people – seem to truly lament is the loss of daily AP gain for basically “just” playing the game, right?

Nope.
I play all of the 3 game types, I get my dailies quickly.
I just want this game to be great all around, for all kinds of players.

The current system could go back to being for everyone with just a couple minor changes. No major overhauls are needed.

On an almost unrelated note, I gotta say that the reason I believe a lot of people start with Warrior is another one though: it’s very straight forward, with a profession mechanic everyone is already familiar with. That doesn’t need to be a bad thing.
I know I picked Warrior for that reason, when my newbie self first approached this game.

Yes. But you don’t dye them the same way you dye armour.

For lack of a better comparison, an outfit is like a full body armour piece with 4 (I think…) dye slots. I don’t know if what I wrote is understandable…

What I mean is that with an armour you are free to dye every singe piece, with an outfit you dye the whole thing (with up to 4 colours… If it is indeed 4).

Maxwell.7843

But if you have natural dailies, that is, they’re expected to be completely anyhow, why not just remove the needless complexity and either completely remove the need for the rewards + the dailies, or just give them… on logging in?

I mean, that’s kinda how the current log-in rewards work. They replace the old, automated, dailies, with something automated and less complex.

Actually, the modifications I suggested are not that huge as to warrant saying that the challenge is removed. On the contrary, they would make content more challenging since there wouldn’t be a train melting every mob.

My suggestion for natural PvE dailies really boils down to:

  • Make event completion worldwide instead of map based
  • If possible make also the other map based things worldwide
  • Add some stuff, like “Kill x mobs” and “Daily costume brawl”. More variety is good.

The weekly thing is just an idea.

But “Do x event in this map” needs to go.
I’m happy if a player asks me for help or information in-game. I like reading funny stuff or helpful stuff in mapchat.
It saddens me to read unpleasant stuff, and seeing people on edge or unnecessarily rude.

Also, as I stated before, that achievement is super clunky.

Small group of players, apparently all knew each other, apparently with 11K AP, all tagged up at the same time, same coulour, same area, and started popping bubbles on the hardest boss encounter… And when addressed, reportedly answered by mocking: “the supply dolly told me to tag up”

Add to that the fact that some people feel a particularly strong inclination to disrupt something when they know that special effort went into the organization…

In my experience, in situation like this the solution often lies with taking a break and trying again the following day, or the day after.

You remember that centaur boss with Caithe? Well, one night I tried challenge mode on my own and failed enough times to have all my armour broken.
The following day I ate a mango pie, a potion of centaur slaying, and did it on my first attempt.

I’m telling you, if you killed the centaur, you can kill this dragon.

Some tips for this encounter:

  • A decent speed uptime is your friend in navigating the arena without having to dodge too much.
  • Since it’s story mode, you don’t need to detonate the bombs. But, if a couple of bombs happens to be on your path, you are better off detonating them (you need to run through the middle, where the roots of the bombs separate). This video by Dulfy shows how to detonate all bombs, just take notice on what’s the correct way to safely navigate through them. Keep in mind you do not need to detonate them.
  • When lighting the fire after the first burn phase, a shadowy mordrem will appear to smother the flame. You need to kill it, and to do so you need to be imbued with divine fire. It’s a good strategy to kill the shadowy modrem from range, while you are standing inside the divine fire aoe. This way you can then immediately run and light another part of the ring.
  • Braham’s dome should give you stability and protection if I recall correctly. Take advantage of it. In any case, bring a utility that gives you stability if you want to be on the safe side.
  • The dragon is a yellow enemy, which means you can’t crit. You can equip a full Soldier set and do as much damage as a Berserker.
  • Bring some condition cleansing for the occasional poison.
  • Bring some food that can boost your survivability. Mango Pie is cheap and gives you health regeneration and vitality, but there are other options. Some foods let you dodge more often for instance.

Good luck, let us know how it goes when you do try it again! :-D

I’m a 99% solo player so the idea didn’t dawn on me to try this, I’d have thought the fight would scale up for more players. Silly me for thinking that way. It’s not as if not getting some modicum of balance on this done would stop story line progress or anything like that could be both frustrating and impeding to some of your players.

Devs – as a game making note – for a story phase to be easy if grouped but impossible if alone seems to me to maybe – need a look at so the difficulty is even across the dang spectrum of how many are playing the thing. I was assuming the “Play he way you want to play” for a story series of solo capable quests to not force me to change that abruptly. This one absolutely needs balancing for solo players. Just like the original story for which you got an ear-full from soloers about in the first story line.

Finally if you wish to have content that doesn’t scale to party size please say so up from in the quest description. Had I known the solution to this I wouldn’t have tried in vain for hours to get the bloody thing done as i did.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but the fight is definitely soloable, and personally I really enjoyed it.

1. Transmutation Stones: Im not brand NEW to GW2, so its been a while. I know to some degree how the stones work, but my issue is, As im progressing through levels and Story, I get nice/fashionable looking armor pieces, whenever I try to equip it, it tells me to buy stones. So I remember when I was playing a while back, it was only for cash item gear. But now, it’s with any gear I unlock in the game. So my question is, is the game nickel and dining on armour pieces now? Or is there another way to get these stones, so I can equip what I have.

It appears you are trying to equip gear from the Wardrobe tab, which is actually used to change the skins.
Armour and weapons are actually equipped from the Equipment tab.

Sounds like you got the Mystic Coin bag. You used to get one each day for completing the daily achievement, now they come in lumps as a reward for clicking “Log in”.

Unfortunately, they’re not worth very much, and are only useful when throwing things into the mystic forge.

Now that we get less coins in a 28 day period, the TP price is almost 4 times what it used to be a couple moths ago…
So they are not that whorthless, if you sell a stack you make a decent amount of gold.

Anyhow, the idea is instead to get players to try things they haven’t considered much yet. Is Gendarran a good place for events? Is WvW-running with a zerg and taking a tower fun for me? Do I enjoy my Thief in sPvP?
Do this a few times, fueled by dailies, and either you start ignoring the daily, or engaging the activity on your own even without the daily. Either is a good outcome for the devs.

This gives me an idea.

I believe that dailies should be something that feels natural (you get them while playing normally), but that doesn’t mean there can’t be another achievement category that encourages players to try something new.
I know that monthlies were just taken out, but I feel that a monthly (or weekly) format lends itself better to the idea of “trying out something new”, so please hear me out!

My proposal can be divided in two parts: Natural dailies (which is something that I believe needs to happen) and Try this out weekly (which is just an idea).

Natural dailies
In the first place, I would like the dailies to go back to feeling natural and not clunky, which for me means making the following changes:

  • WvW dailies: The ones we have right now are perfect, nothing to change here.
  • PvP dailies: Remove “x class winner” and make it into “Daily winner”.
  • PvE dailies: The worst offender is definitely “4 events in x map”, which I would like to see changed to “x events anywhere”. I already explained a few posts back why I believe this one needs to go.
In addition to that, I’d like to see any daily that is now valid in a specific region (miner, harvester, Vista viewer…) become valid worldwide, but I don’t see this change as important as removing “4 events in x map” is.
“Daily activity” and “Daily world boss” in my opinion are fine.
I would like to see added “Kill x enemies” and “Daily costume brawl”, like in the old dailies. I miss the costume brawls you saw during Halloween.

“Check this out!” weekly/monthly
Now that the important improvements are out of the way, I’ll throw around some ideas to get players to try something new.
The idea behind this achievement category is “Hey, during this week (or forthnight, or month, or whatever period of time), while you are at it, why don’t you try this thing?”.
To me a more extended period of time is key here. You should try something new only if and when you feel like it, and my reasoning is that in a longer period of time people are more likely to want to try new things.
Think about it: daily is something that goes together with the idea of routine, and doing things you are comfortable with. A longer timespan goes together with doing new things. For example, you go to work daily, but in the span of a month you may try rock climbing.

So, in a weekly category (or biweekly, or monthly… From now on I’ll only write “week” and you guys will know what I mean) I would put stuff like:

  • This week, try these 5 Jumping puzzles
  • This week, try the Obsidian Sanctum
  • This, week try Elementalist and Thief in PvP (win x matches while playing these classes)
  • This week, try Fractals
  • This week, try these 4 dungeons in explorable mode
  • etc…

That’s all at the moment, let me know what you guys think

NPE Feedback [Merged] - Please read 1st post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Maxwell.7843

Maxwell.7843

I thought I would provide some feedback.

Since the introduction of the NPE, I have created and brought to level 80 two characters.
My thoughts are going to revolve around just a couple of changes, the ones that impacted me the most.

Firstly, the fact that skills 2-5 (weapon skills) are now unlocked at a certain level, opposed to just using a particular weapon until all of its skills were unlocked.
I am conflicted in regards to this change. While playing, I found myself enjoying this new method more than the previous one (with my very first character, I remember I didn’t like Mace at the time, and didn’t enjoy using it just for the sake of unlocking its skills): it feels convenient to grab a weapon for the first time and see that some of its skills are already unlocked because your level is high enough. On the other hand, I feel that the previous method gave me a better understanding on what every skill did (since I was forced to spend time using that weapon).
So I think that, while my personal experience was better with the new method, maybe the previous one was better for learning.

The second thing I’d like to address is the level gating in the Personal Story. For me this was a bad, bad change. I mentioned leveling both of my NPE characters to 80, what I didn’t mention was that I did it on EotM, and I did it just so that I would be able to play the Personal Story with my own pace.
After finishing a chapter, having to wait for almost 10 levels doesn’t feel great.

The other changes didn’t really impact me personally, not that I can remember at least.

I already stated my opinion (WvW ones are great, PvP ones are good except “x profession” winner, PvE ones are bad).

I’m coming back to this thread because I witnessed unfriendly behaviour and unnecessary tension among players in the map hosting the “4 events in x map daily”.
A lot of people seem to be in a craze to get the daily done, and it creates a bad atmosphere in-game.

After what I read concerning the Quuensdale train, I can’t believe “4 events in x map daily” was implemented… Wasn’t it foreseeable that the interaction among players would suffer from something like this daily?

Personally, I think we exchanged a vastly superior system for something that not only is clunky, but also bad for the community.
I wish the dailies for the PvE category went back to the previous iteration.

Yeah, contact support, it definitely shouldn’t happen.

Everyone and their mom is a Warrior

Other classes have more complicated rotations, of course, but what you describe is not even close to the optimal rotation for a Warrior, and no semi-competent Warrior player is going to use that.

You totally missed the point.

I never said it was optimal I just merely stated what I’ve observed “pug” warriors doing in runs.
You think most players care about what is optimal? You honestly think most players care if they kill something twice as fast if it means they have to think about playing?

I doubt it. You’re talking about semi-competent players.. I really think you over estimate their ability or under estimate how lazy they are.

Of course a lot of people just autoattack and spam 2 when off cooldown.
And a lot of people believe that a 5 warrior party will clear a dungeon faster than anything.

But in your previous post your meaning was a bit unclear, since you compared the ease of a bad Warrior “rotation” to the difficulty of proper Ele or Engie rotations.
My point was that this sort of comparison doesn’t make much sense.

Then if you want to argue that Warrior is more forgiving than some other classes, I think everyone can agree.

What? No new legendary weapons have been announced as far as I know.

Source?

DOn’t tell me I grinded all that stuff for a bow I don’t even like.

The PAX announcement.

Masteries will allow to build collections that will unlock precursors. Moreover there will also be new legendaries.

Please do not abandon your team.

If your only goal is capping a point, if you don’t plan on playing the whole match and/or if you don’t plan on actively participating (supporting your team and interacting with them on teamchat), there is hotjoin, aka Practice.

Let's Talk About: Specializations

I would really like to know if there is something more than just a fancy name about those specializations… because if you get new weapon, skills and some traits, it doesn’t mean it’s any different, there should be something what makes the druid different from ranger, a reason not to specialize… otherwise they could just add new weapon and skills without a need to call it specialization… specialization implies you get something in a trade for something else so I expect more than just unlocked 1 weapon, few skills and few traits…

Colin hinted that the profession mechanic undergoes some changes if you specialize.
I would have to rewatch the video, it was something about Druids not relying on pets the same way Rangers do…
