The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the WvW new dailies are really, really good.

The PvP daylies are ok: I’m not a fan of “X class winner”, the first days it lead to weird team compositions (like 4 lvl2 X classes) but now I see that way less, so I figure people have understood that nobody forces them to create a new toon just for a daily.

I’m sorry to say that I do not enjoy the new PvE dailies; I think the previous iteration was far superior.
They are specific in a weird way, while WvW and PvP are generic (as a daily should be). A lot of people say that you are not forced to do them, and I agree, but that is not a reason to make PvE daily less enjoyable than the dailies from the other categories.

A person should be able to do the PvE dailies with the same level of “comfort” (or “ease”, or whatever) the other dailies offer.
Chopping wood you don’t need doesn’t seem like a good reason to teleport to a particular map, in my opinion. It feels clunky and weird. A daily should be something you naturally do during you gaming session.

The new dailies feel like a good step forward for WvW and PvP, and an incomprehensible step back for PvE.

Once you master the choir bell with a Charr, you can do it with any character, of any race.

At the beginning I didn’t like this activity at all, but after some practice I mastered it and started enjoying myself.

The key is to completely ignore the way your character moves, because the animation has a delay that can screw up you timing. Just press the button once the glowing ball enters the blue circle: if it helps, do not even look at you character.

I’ve got 2 lvl 80 Guardians for what ever reason and decided to try a Warrior. I’m assuming while I level it’s a straight 5 signets with GS.

Once I hit 80 I assume I use signet of healing, the epic Signet, and banners for the rest?

If you are just doing open world PvE you can use whatever you want.
If you are doing dungeons there is a specific meta build to maximise dps, for WvW and PvP there are a variety of builds, depending on your play style.

Regarding Banners though how short are the CDs, I worry I’ll drop them down for some trash and then not have them for other fights, do you only drop them for bosses and champs?

I normally use banners in organized or semi organized contexts, like Tequatl or dungeons. In a dungeon you know the encounters, so you know when to use the banner.

Do banners have a recall mechanism like Shaman in WoW used to have so that they were picked back up on the move?

I’m not familiar with WoW.
Once you used the skill, you can pick up a banner if you are next to it, was that what you meant? That does not recharge the cooldown, it just allows you to move it around.

PS if I roll a Charr are the only decent armors the cultural ones?

Basically yes. The arah chestpiece can look good, and you have a certain degree of freedom with shoulders, gloves and boots, but in general most armours look very weird.

I am now at the point in “Hidden Arcana” when I need to speak to Ogden Stonehealer, but instead of giving me the option to click on the hour glass, I only get dialogue options about lore. Hence, I cannot progress forward at all! The correct dialogue box tries to open up, but then closes and the second dialogue box you are supposed to get AFTER completing the instance pops up instead.

This has happened to me too a couple of times.

I was lucky since I was able to get the 3 challenge mote achievements, but I can confirm that each of the three motes (“Meeting the Asura”, “No refuge” and “Tracking the aspect masters”) sometimes does not appear.
Actually, in “Tracking the aspect masters” the mote almost never appears.

I have not found a reliable workaround, seems quite random.
If you have an alternate character you can try doing a story mission with that one, and then log out and try again, but I can’t guarantee it’ll work…

I believe the content was deactivated because of an exploit (reported on this forum) that allowed people reading the letter to cap stuff in WvW while being invulnerable.

As far as I know, everyone had completed the story mode for “No Refuge”.

Moreover, the party thing happened again today, this time with “Tracking the Aspect Masters”, and this time I know for certain each of us had the chapter completed, since each of us tried hosting, to no avail: no one could see the mote.

To sum it up:
- the challenge mote appears only rarely, both for solo attempts and party attempts;
- this problem seems more common in the “Tracking the Aspect Masters”, but it has happened also during “No Refuge” and “Meeting the Asura”.

If I may add a thought, this is a particularly vexing problem when attempting Dancer in the dark, because sometimes after you die the deformed mini teargriff stay spawned (or maybe the Teargriff boss keeps spawning them) because of what I assume to be another bug, forcing you to log off (the fight becomes not winnable); but, after logging off, at the following attempt the mote isn’t there, and so on…

Hello.

As some people have already pointed out, the challenge mote in the “Tracking the Aspect Masters” chapter is not there.

I did see the challenge mote a couple of times, but most of the times I have tried to get the achievement Dancer in the dark, the mote wasn’t there. At the moment it’s absent from my game.

I decided to open a new thread because “Tracking the Aspect Masters” is not the only chapter with a non-working challenge mote. A few days ago I was trying to get the achievement Wicked rodeo, and the mote wasn’t there either; I was in a party, no one could see it, and relogging did not solve the issue.

I have yet to try to get the achievements of “Meeting the Asura”, so at the moment I’m unable to give feedback concerning that chapter: what I do know is that at least 2 out of the 3 challenge motes are bugged, so the issue may need a look at.

Every class has a special mechanic. People complain about the recent Warrior nerf because the update wrecked such mechanic.

I’ll explain. A Warrior gains Adrenaline in combat, and the higher the Adrenaline the better (several traits rely on having a full Adrenaline bar). The game puts you in combat only if you are hitting an enemy, or if you receive a hit.

If you are running around in the middle of a horde, but you haven’t been hit in x seconds, the game will put you out of combat (even though you are clearly in a combat situation), and Adrenaline will start to decay. The update made the Adrenaline decay so fast that if you disengage (by mistake, or because the next enemy is a few pixels away and you have to run to reach them, or because you are fighting against human players that know about this huge weakness) you are done, Adrenaline is gone and you are now more vulnerable.

So if your first character is a Warrior there is a chance it’ll get longer for you to get accustomed to class mechanics, just because you won’t have as many chances to use them as people had before.

With that said, Warrior is fun to play. You need to be mobile and fast (you are not a tank, and our passive heal is extremely low compared to some other classes), and the learning curve in PvE is newbie-fiendly.

Whether you would like playing as a Warrior or not depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

[Personal rant] If you pick a Warrior, be prepared: whatever happens people will keep opening threads on the forum about the Warrior being super OP, so you’ll end up dreading every game update.
I’m really sorry to say it, but that’s how it is. I am worried about the next balance update, because we just got a major nerf and people are already asking for more warrior nerfs.

Basically, correct me if I’m wrong, you believe that unlocking POIs should be the reward given to those who can not only hold their own, but also can count on the support of their team…? (example: if a guy is going for the vista on the ruins, and the ruins are surrounded by that guy’s team mates, it means he has earned the right to unlock the POI)
Did I understand correctly?

Pretty much, although the tone of how you’re writing this is affected incredulous disbelief.

That wasn’t my tone. I was just being cautious because, since I was interpreting someone else’s thoughts and feelings, I didn’t want to so sound rude or like a know-it-all.
In other words I didn’t want to sound like a guy who puts words in other people’s mouth.

English is not my first language so if my tone is misinterpreted it is probably my fault.

In truth I’m not incredulous; I even kind of understand the reasoning, even though I personally disagree with it.

The second M in MMORPG is for “Multiplayer”, and if you want to circumvent that for some personal solo endeavor (which isn’t required for the game, of course) then it’s on you and not everybody else to make that happen. No consideration of you has to be given, and none should be expected.

You are going into a competition-based area of the game and wanting others to bend that mode so you can treat it as a single-player offline experience… no.

You either learn how to do it alone (swiftness, stealth, gods help you fighting ability), in which case your argument holds no water, or you conform to the game mode and help your server control those areas which will let you get your POIs and skill points.

If you want to treat WvW maps like PvE, then let me throw down siege in PvE and have the npcs ignore me while I’m doing map completion. Let me know when you’ve got that ready for me, and I’ll personally escort you through my server’s map in WvW.

As I stated before, I got most of the 4 maps while playing WvW normally (except some minor stuff like the skritt and centaur skill points), in a group, following commanders and having fun while taking down gates. And I’ll keep playing WvW because it’s fun.

I feel like some of you might have misunderstood and thought this was about me having a hard time in WvW, when it’s really not the case. Once I started playing WvW I ended up completing the maps, but my goal was to play WvW: map completion was just a natural consequence.

The thing is, even though I have fun in WvW I don’t expect everyone else to enjoy WvW, and I don’t expect other people to play in groups.
As a direct consequence, I feel it’s not my (or anyone’s) place to force map completionists to run with zergs just so they can get their POI.
Plus, I really feel bad at the thought of ruining the efforts of a guy hopping on a vista on the other side of the map from their spawn.

The goal of this thread was just to have people discuss about their own feeling toward harmless red players that are doing map completion.

Many of you say that if you see a red player you want to attack them. So my question to you is “why do you prefer option 3 instead of option 2? what difference does it make to you to wait a few seconds before starting the fight?”

Always 1.

The devs put PvE in a PvP zone. I just like fighting people fairly. If someone is trying to get a friggin vista for their epic legendary weapon, I’m not gonna ruin life for them. Some people try for months to get particular vistas, pois, and skill points. To prevent them from getting it a pretty messed up move. Sadly, this is an online community and people find it fun ruining another’s day and then hiding behind the excuse, “it’s a warzone.” That’s like taking candy from a baby and then saying, “it’s not healthy for him.”

To be clear, I should probably say I do the first option and then some. When I see my server trying to kill the person I try to stop them as much as I can.

I really like the comparison.

Also, cheers for your gentlemanly behaviour.

Any build is viable to do most of the PvE content.

If you were looking for the most optimal build though, the one you posted isn’t really close, as the others pointed out before me…

If you want to do dungeons, give some serious consideration about following the meta build. It’s really good, and gives you purpose as a party member.
If you want to do “yellow” world bosses, since you can’t crit you are going to want to go full soldier for those specific encounters.

IMHO a full Berserker set (armor, trinketsand weapons like axe, mace, greatsword, etc) is a must if you want an optimal build that’s gonna be great for most of your PvE experience; then, if you got extra gold and like world bosses so much that you want an optimal build for those too, get a soldier set with trooper runes…

Without food, even with Healing Power gear (which by the way isn’t good for a warrior, because our passive heal is only marginally influenced by healing power) you are going to be well below 1500hp per second.

Our Healing Signet heals for 362 + (0.05 x Healing Power) hit points per second, and Adrenal Health (which adds some small passive healing) is useless in PvE because after the last nerf you cannot retain adrenaline in most combat situations.

Not that in PvE you really need more passive healing than that; dps oriented gear can make fights against mobs very short…
A Warrior, in PvE, survives by making the fight short (and, well, dodging).

PS: I wrote a bit more about our passive healing in this post.
Basically for an abysmal gain in hit points per second we loose a ton of damage, which in turn makes us less likely to survive because the fights last longer.

Events may be not synchronized, but it shouldn’t be a huge problem, you just press “ok” as soon as you are done with your current event.

Like ShadowDragoon I too have had the prompt appear to me only very late at night, especially in zones that just got “emptied” because the world boss train had moved to the next one.

If at all possible I would like to read more in-depth reasons than “PvP is PvP”, though.

How can we get more in-depth? I like killing everyone – except for people dueling

With getting more in depth I mean, for example, describing what makes option 3 better that option 2.
I understand the desire to engage a red player, what I have a hard time figuring out is the need to do so in a hostile manner.

I do not feel proud or beaming with confidence stomping a PvEr who barely fights back its more funny/pathetic – that does not mean you get a free lunch though

Basically, correct me if I’m wrong, you believe that unlocking POIs should be the reward given to those who can not only hold their own, but also can count on the support of their team…? 3. It’s the same type of behavior that WvW players get in PvE for having something like a single piece of PVT gear on during a dungeon run.

Kicking people because of their gear isn’t a nice thing to do, no doubt, but it’s easy to avoid parties that require you to post your gear in chat.
Also I’m not sure that kicking because of gear implies the same level of spite and malice of someone that just pushes you of the ledge while you are a few pixels away from the vista, jumping and waving to show you are not hostile…

To me having a degree of respect towards fellow GW2 players seems just natural, since we are on different sides just to have fun and there isn’t real conflict (it’s a make-believe war, not a real one).

Oh it’s real… it’s SO real~!!!

This makes me even more curious, is there bad blood among shards in the American WvW community?

To clear: I’m not saying there shouldn’t be fighting in PvP, my point is that videogame make-believe fights should still be friendly…

Your opinion of it is that of a PvE carebear so I am pretty sure you got trolled while trying to map complete

Believe me when I say that I was fairly sure that someone would assume this.

And yet you are mistaken: I got most of my map completion by following commanders and playing WvW normally. Which incidentally is the reason why I completed the 4 WvW maps in a really, really short time.
I got killed while doing a vista exactly once, and it was basically next to my spawn so I didn’t even care.

I’m just curious to hear what other players feel.

Your take on enemy map completionists

Maxwell.7843

I’m curious, what’s your behaviour in WvW towards enemy players who are obviously doing some map completion stuff?

For example, imagine you see a lone enemy player that is climbing to reach a vista, or commuting with a skill point location.
What do you do?

1- If he/she seems friendly (jumps or waves), do you let them be?
2- Do you attack them, but only after they unlock the skill/vista/whatever?
3- Or do you actively try to prevent them from unlocking the skill/vista/whatever? Even if the guy just spent a lot of time to get to that place in the map because there are no waypoints?

Whatever your answer is, I’d like also to read your reasoning behind it.

In my opinion the 3rd one is a major kitten move, and it’s a really childish behaviour because it implies a degree of malice that is unbecoming of mature adults (you are free to disagree, obviously, but give a reason). It’s even more kittenish that using offensive emotes over dead enemy bodies.
Of course if someone ventures in WvW they must be prepared for the eventuality of fighting and dying, but in that case the 2nd option seems more reasonable and way less malicious. To me having a degree of respect towards fellow GW2 players seems just natural, since we are on different sides just to have fun and there isn’t real conflict (it’s a make-believe war, not a real one).

So I would lean towards options 1 and 2, depending on the situation.

Chris and Jonathan, thank you both for answering.

I really appreciate it, and I don’t want to sound ungrateful (I do realize that you are both busy and that addressing our questions and concerns in by no means a light task), but I still feel that this matter needs to be addressed on the Warrior subforum, as I pointed out in my previous post.

Right now the first 4 to 5 pages in said forum are basically just threads of people who talk about this nerf. That’s a lot of threads…

So I’m still of the opinion that it would be good if someone from the team maybe created a red thread in that forum (something like “You feedback on the recent Warrior changes”), and these are the reasons why I believe it would be for the best:
- such a thread would give the Warrior players a chance to post their opinions in a single discussion, while they are now scattered across tens of threads. It seems like a good way to have a constructive conversation
- if we keep talking about it here, we risk “derailing” this thread, and it would be detrimental to everyone’s efforts
- if we don’t talk about it at all, then we are ignoring (or worse, dismissing) the issue.

I can see that you guys stand by the change and I know that you have a better level of awareness concerning the overall balance, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that those Warrior players do not have a point.

I tried using Overwolf but it doesn’t work well with my GW2 keybindings. :-s

It seems to have this weird bug: whenever you go back to the game from any Overwolf window (be it an app, the browser, the settings…), it’s as if someone has pressed “Shift” on my keybard. On GW2 I switch weapons with “Shift”, so if I use Overwolf my character keeps switching weapons.

This happens even if you remap all of the Overwolf hotkeys in a way so that “Shift” doesn’t appear anywhere. Also, it happens even if you disable the hotkeys…

I land a couple of hits (and I’m surprised when I see they do a lot of damage), he pushes me off the bridge (stability had run out).
I survive, because there is a “platform” of solid ground under that portion of the bridge.

I know it’s in no way epic, but it was my first encounter and it felt exciting. When the guy pushed me off the bridge I wasn’t even upset, my thoughts were more along the lines of “I totally deserved to fall to my death” and “Nice one buddy” xD

Would it be possible for someone from the team to take a look at the feedback in the Warrior forum, please?

To sum it up, many people feel that the adrenaline decay outside of combat make the warrior’s profession mechanic unusable. I believe it’s true. That’s because you end up being “out of combat” even if you are actually surrounded by foes.

One of the suggestions was to make the adrenaline decay start only if you stay out of combat for X seconds, so that you have time to get to the next enemy without an empty bar. It was also suggested to decrease the rate of decay a bit.

While I do realize that a lot of people complain when there are balance changes, I do honestly and wholeheartedly believe that the Warrior players have a point.

I’m NOT saying “omg now the [insert profession] can reset the fight it’s so unfair”, what I’m saying is “I think I understand what you guys did, but the concrete result is that burst skills now are broken”.
I am not asking to go back to the previous system, just to rework the decay rate out of combat.
I don’t believe it’s working as intended, because no profession should be locked out of their mechanic. I assume the goal was to prevent the warriors from carrying a full bar of adrenaline long outside of combat, and I agree, but we went from one extreme to another extreme.
If a Warrior is in a combat situation (which doesn’t mean “in combat”), he should be able to retain his adrenaline. The easiest way is to introduce an X seconds timer (for example 10 seconds) before the decay starts.

Thank you for your attention.

PS: I know that Mesmers have the same issue with loosing their clones; I don’t know that profession, but in the interest of fairness I think they should have a similar chance.

PPS: I’m one of those people who were very saddened about the disappearance of part of the personal story (the “greatest fear” storyline), so thank you for looking into that too.

I don’t think the exotic spoons replace a different exotic that might have dropped, I think
Astral Projections has a point. I hope

Honestly I’m ok with their drop rate; this collection feels a bit like an introduction to hidden collections, so everyone should have a chance to complete it without grinding for weeks.
I assume the price was calculated according to its drop rate, so I wouldn’t change anything here.

I mean yeah I don’t love the fact that the ascended spoon isn’t really useful, but I guess that’s part of the point (a collection is something that has value as a group, the objects do not need to be useful or valuable on their own).

Hello.

I read about the tournament, and since I’ve never participated in one, I’d like to use this chance.

The thing, I don’t quite understand how the tournament is going to work, and where it will take place (Eternal Battleground, Borderlands, EotM?).

Do I just pick a commander and follow him/her? Or is someone on my server coordinating the whole war effort?
Do I need to install TeamSpeak, if that’s the case?

I am on Desolation.

Maybe it’s a bug.

From what I understand, they took some of the features of the Chinese client, but reworking them in the western client created a huge amount of bugs that they are still trying to sort out…

I don’t understand, have those missions been removed, or not?

Could someone from the dev team please pop by and clarify?

If they have not been removed, how come some players report their absence? Is it a bug?
And if they indeed have been removed from the game, may we know why and if there is a chance to have them back? The “greatest fear” storyline was good, and it’s a real shame if it’s not part of the Personal Story anymore

Hyped for incoming VIP status in Gem Store!

The VIP option will have ZERO negative effect on your game play, but hey, act like a child and quit over something that will only benefit you by giving Anet another source of revenue for future development.

If non-vips can sell a maximum of 5 items a day on the TP, it has a huge impact on everyone’s gameplay.

Look, I understand that some people would like to pay a monthly fee.

But if not being a vip means that some parts of the game get heavily restricted (5 trades on the TP), it can’t be possibly fair. That’s the kind of thing that you find on the worst free to play games; in such games the addict user is forced to spend money just to have a playable game.

So I think it’s understandable if players are worried.
