The bad part is it’s looking like your gonna have to PvE dungeon crawl to get the best gear for PvP.
From the sound of her “enthusiasm” in the blog, it seems like this is only the beginning. I don’t want to care about being “Decked out in full Ascended armor with infusions”. THat’s not why I play this game. I play it for WvW and if this gear-grind is a trend then it will most definitely have a negative impact on WvW, and that is when I’ll be gone.
The Future of Items Progression
This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.
The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).
…….welp. Swaping GW2 off the SSD and WoW back on to it.
New Ascended Gear & Infusions
Introducing Ascended items, artifacts of great power that can be improved by a special new type of upgrade called Infusions, which can be found in dungeons. Look for more information about Ascended gear soon!
Anyone else see how their main Lost Shores feature page seemed to be recently changed to the above? No longer says anything about the gear being better or above Exotics.
Interesting post. You do know WoW has gear progression AND the most players right now, right?
Yes that is right. And those of us that do like that as our primary style of game will still continue to play that game. I play GW2 because I liked WvW before it got all messed up. But if I’m going to have to regear all my characters in this game like I do in WoW. I’m just going to continue to play WoW because honestly it’s better at what it does then all the others.
Making this game in to just another WoW clone will lead to same fate that all the other WoW clones are. Caugh SWTOR Cough Aeon, Sniffle Sniffle Rift etc you get the point. If you want people to play your game instead of WoW make it different then WoW.
Wait. So I have worked my tail off to get 4 exotic armor sets for my level 80 character for different styles of play and now they are going to be basically useless because of a new tier of armor… Oh my…
Two months in and all our gear is obsolete…
No offense to the “this game isn’t about gear” Zealots…….WoW at least gives yah 5-8 months between seasons not 2.5. Especially for a game based on horizontal progression. Just sayin.
Without knowing for sure. But if AN was smart they’d make it a % damage and defense against new mobs or those in that new zone. Leave everything else at it’s exotic level. While I play WoW and prefer the stat grind. Those of us that do are playing games like that not so much GW2 anymore. AN should pick it’s market. I don’t think it can compete with the vertical scaling games. Others try and fail AN is no different.
I really hate to break this too you, but the game will not last long if all the upgrading a players character can achieve is minor fluff via skins.
If this all Anet plan to have for character advancement, they truely are stuck 10 years in the past on thier GW1 platform, which today, is not what this genre of gamers want.
It would be enough to keep me and many others playing if WvW worked. But free transfers for over two months and completely destroyed that community. “Skin” grinds are even more worthless then “stat” grinds. Right now the only thing I find that’s fun in the game left is world PvE and dynamic events. Those are still awesome but……. come to this game for the PvP. I don’t really find PvE entertaining for long. Right I’m having more fun playing MWO and WoW Battlegrounds. I’ll keep checking in through to see if they figure out how to fix the mess they’ve created with WvW. But not holding my breath on that one.
I’m curious to see how AN plans to keep players playing and buying stuff in the Gem store. Hmmm I wonder if this could be called Fantasy version of SW in terms of player retention?
Other more developed games such as WoW you can not cap while stealth nor prevent capping. If you are stealth you don’t exist for objective purposes. I don’t know why it has escaped Arena Net.
Either way, some additional measures need to be taken. All 4 of my friends stopped playing Guild Wars 2 due to unbalanced issue with WvW server transfers. After all WvW is the best “endgame” imo, and at the moment it is hurting.
Same! I have one friend who will try it because she’s interested in seeing what it was we were talking about for a month. But I doubt she’ll buy the game. I can’t say that I’d really recommend it to anyone at this point. If it was a subscription based game I’d of canceled after the 2nd month. WoW has more of a sense of server community and identity and this is the game that’s supposed to have huge realm vs realms. But when I can just transfer to whatever server I want every day, well now every week, I really couldn’t care what server I’m on.
The problem is, the problem can’t really be fixed. People have stopped playing the game and gone back to WoW and other games. Say what you want but 10+ mil monthly subscribers vs 2 mil box sales. Now GW2 is out of sight out of mind and even if they were to prevent server transfers at this point the alliances and in some cases the guilds that would have made the game awesome are gone to greener pastures. I’d almost rather uninstall the game then be my current server and have to pay money to transfer to a good one in the future. Perhaps if they flagged each account to have one transfer and you could move to any server no matter what the population level was then guilds could group back up. But I’m guessing nobody really cares at this point.
GW you had so much potential to be better then SWTOR. It’s sad that the game was torpedo’d not by game play and mechanics, but by lack of developer experience and lack of understanding of online communities. That is how Blizzard can be so successful with a lesser game. The game while not being as fun the entertainment is in the community.

When trying to use Heartseeker as a Thief it is a pain in the rear when you hit escape and then the ability rapidly just to find out that you didn’t deselect a target. For some reason some time I have to double tap escape to deselect my target. Other times a double tap on escape bring up the game menu. Extremely frustrating.
So please give us a button that we can keybind to drop all targets or allow us to remap the game menu to another key other then escape.
Thank you,
The queue lengths are a pain, but it is the randomness that really drives me nuts.
I don’t mind the wait so much if they give an audio que that the que has popped so I can have it sit in the background.
What I do mind is I que at 6PM. Buddy gets home from work Que’s for the same WvW I told him to que for. He que’s at 7PM he gets a pop at 7:30 PM I get pop at 10PM. Has happened many times sometimes I’m the one with the short que and he with the never ending. We have only been able to both get in WvW at the same time twice since release.
That is not a playable game.

Finally, I would like to ask everyone to post any additional queue comments to this thread only from now on and refrain from creating additional threads about it.
Thank you all for your understanding and patience.
Was thinking that this should be posted under suggestions but since it’s related to this topic I am posting here.
So right now the last few weeks have had several 5-8 hour que times. This is fine because I am working on world completion and “grinding” out Fine crafting mats for trade skills. However when this is done, which will be rather quickly playing WvW will be the draw to this game.
I am, and many others will not sit staring at their screens waiting for a que to pop to play the game, wasting night after night hoping to play. Especially with and WoW and for others major Rift expansions coming out.
Will ArenaNet have their que problem fixed by Sept 28th, or will they have a Taskbar or audio alert of some kind to tell players that that are waiting in que tabbed out playing other games that their que has popped so they can decide if they want to take the que if they’re not too engrossed in what they have decided to to in the mean time while waiting. Also disable afk booting for people waiting in WvW que.
My personal limit will be one hour. Login if que doesn’t pop in an hour it’s out to another game for that evening. Being able to play the main feature of the game shouldn’t be too much to ask. The game can ether be played or it can’t, quite literally only time will tell.
