To the dude above me. You need to go back and play those games. I currently raid and play with friends in all of them, and in comparison to gw2 how it is now, vs last Oct the ‘grind’ you are talking about is 150% easier in wow etc, in fact its so easy that i geared up a brand new toon in full purple gear in heroic raiding in under one month and that was not playing more than twice a week. I haven’t been able to touch that here. So your comparison is bad since you obviously don’t play those games, you like to use as a comparison for what grind even means, and sit here and defend guild wars.
This game has way more of a grind than anyone wants to admit. You should just own up to it.

Yeah I read his long winded post. The Sixtheenth has some fairly significant miss conceptions about how math works and the current state in other games. In 2 months of casual play in WoW PvP. I can have All BiS for non rated players. If I get go for rating that season and get it the moment I get 2200 then I go get the rated weapon. It’s always entertaining to pick out the people that just babble about other games that really don’t have a clue about them.

The weapons don’t give much advantage, a mere 8% on stats, on your global stat it is insignificant since you have the trinket. Doing daily is not grinding, plus if you do it in PvP, it usually takes 3 matches, you won’t have to do the pve one.

This is just flat out wrong but before we get to that.

The reason others left to go back to WoW or other games is there really is less of a grind in them vs the reward that you get. In WoW I can do X and get Y legendary. In GW2 you do X^2 and get a [bold]chance[/bold] at the starting item to the legendary.

Giving the game another chance during the WvW Season 1 these things don’t bug me as much because the best PvP weapons can not be obtained in PvP. When they wanted you to grind out repeated boring PvE over and over again to get the PvP gear that was designed by someone with a room temp IQ in game design. But now at least it can be ground out by actually playing the game you want. Before that the dev’s claims were utter lies and falsehoods. I know they don’t like it when people say that but maybe that’s because the statement is true O_o

Now however you can get the trinkets and even craft the Ascended items which are equal to the Legendary’s in stats. This pretty much mitigates the above paragraph. That was then and this is now. I’m looking in to the ascended crafting but so far it looks like you can get the stuff by PvPing for the most part. Still need to look at the dailies people are talking about. But if I put in the effort over the course of Season One that should put me fairly close by the end to getting an Ascended weapon and I’m find with that. Legendary not at all interested anymore. Ascended weapons being equal BiS is fine don’t need to hot swap the stats and don’t care about the graphics since when I’m looking for targets to put in the ground I’m zoomed out full anyways.

Now to the utterly wrong statement. In WoW the 2200+ rated players had access to weapons that are only 5% above the non 2200 gear and it makes an enormous difference. People think it’s just a few % and they fail to realize how math and game mechanics work. Your hitting that % harder on your opponent meaning your doing damage that much faster. Your healing that extra but more. Your mitigating that much more damage. So when you add it all up that 5% really compounds to be about a 20% better character. So apply that to GW2 with what 8% you said? That’s simply HUGE.

Ascended Gear Options

To the OP. Yes I’ve been doing a comparison between WoW and GW2. In WoW you can spend a lot of time doing a Legendary quest line. You maybe need to get the help of friends and a raiding guild but you can do the quest. In PvE and PvP you can get your in a variety of fashions and play the way you want to play.

My experience in GW2 is that you have to spend a ton of gold on the chance of getting the piece that allows you to start the legendary question. You put in a ton of work and still never get a good roll on the dice. Your other options are to Pay to Win to buy the money to purchase the precursor from someone who was lucky with the RNG. Until recently even the whole fallacy of the games claim to play how you want to play. For you to get the best gear for PvP you had to grind out PvE content in the Fractals. Seriously false advertising with this game.

Just bought GW2.

Pretty much agree with the posts here. The game was awesome before Nov 15th, 2012. Then it became the #1 best selling AND #1 most grindy game of all time. For the game that didn’t have vertical progression they sure seem to go to extreme lengths to put grind in the game. Until recently you had to grind PvE to get the Ascended gear for PvP. At least in WoW you can get your PvP gear by doing PvP.

We’ll see how it plays out I’m experimenting till Halloween. I’m forcing myself to give it a try but so far I’ve been pretty much convinced of you get what you pay for even with MMOs.

GW 2 was advertised as a fun, casual MMO.

Hahahaha same arguments with the same problems a year later hahaha. If you want to have a decent progression path….play better games. I’ve been doing it the past year and haven’t really looked back at all. Checked in because saw a bunch of the 1 year since release video’s. Looks like they’ve expanded on the poor design that was contrary to what they said they were building the game as and haven’t really made the game fun to play.

Ahahaha. Stopped playing last year after the game went to garbage on Nov 15th with the release of the Ascended items. Haven’t actually even come to the forums at all in about 6 months. Just checked in to find that Legendary weapons are still kittened Number Generator with no way to for time=reward. Also as expected the Ascended items have been expanded on making it just another WoW clone. Well see you all in another year to see if they fix the game.

Yes I was thinking of wvw. I never got in to the whole sPvP. That also seemed kind of pointless. The way you can get people on and Que in to Battlegrounds is way better. I know they tried to make it more like an arena because they wanted to do the whole esports thing. Yeah AN how’s that going for yah? Ohh yeah.

But in WoW you can use PvP gear and PvE gear in the other. However you will be disadvantaged by using the wrong gear. The base PvE tier will allow you get your pvp base gear and versa. But if you want the best PvE gear you do PvE. If you want the best crushing PvP gear you get that in PvP. Your not forced to do PvE to get the best PvP gear. Like I said before you get what you pay for. Pay a monthly sub get a better designed product.

This is another aspect of you get what you Pay for. Games like WoW have their leader boards tied to content seasons. So if your an old member you still have to long term achievements and if you scored high on an old leader board you still have that. However new people to the game will have the same potential to be on the leader board for the current and subsequent seasons. Your status is based on you and your ability, not how long you have played the game. Far more competitive environment.

“Give them something distinctive that says “I am the best” and not just “I put in a lot of time, spent a lot of real-world money and/or got really lucky.””

That right there is pretty much why I can’t take this game seriously. A buddy of mine are going to give it another shot. Already I’m like meh this still sucks. Having to do PvE to get the best PvP gear in the game rather lame. The other big name games that you pay a sub for don’t have these failings. I could see it maybe it may be worth off time like while watching a movie or something to do PvE dungeons but not really.

Your legendary is also based on RNG. There’s nothing epic about it other then time wasted saving for the parts and the epic roll if you manage to get a precursor. Nothing skill or talent involved. Just seems kinda lame. Tons of grind with a chance of payout.

I’ll give it one more go however since my buddy wants to play it. He likes it basically because it can be played as a single player Non MMO game. It’s going to be hard justifying the time wasted though. Like what they say in RL. You get what you Pay for.

Would you pay a subscription to play GW2?

What are your plans for grinding out vertical gear levels with ascended gear and beyond?

Idea, make fun again & bring back players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: McSlappy.1372

McSlappy.1372

1) Keep the current method for legendary save one change, every account chooses one precursor. If you want more then one then use the current methods. But give every person something to start working on in the game other then just farming up currency to buy something to work on.

2) Set Ascended gear to Exotic stats with the exception of infusion for the PvE fractals. Ascended gear will only benefit PvE instances then and have 0 impact on PvP. New content comes out upgrade the infusions but have them not count while in PvP.

3) Make Fractals a little more lucrative then open world additionally make it the best place to farm for your legendary by far. New legendary or new content the best place to farm it would be in the new instances. This only works if the following is implemented though.

4) Ascended gear to run the #3 Fractals and instances can only be obtained out in the open world. For you to excel in the Legendary and newly introduced content you need the Ascended gear. To get the Ascended gear you need to be questing out in the open world.

Lastly, send out an email to all those that have purchased the game. Explain the mistake of putting gear grind in to a advertised as Horizontal Progression game in an attempt bring back players that have swore off the game and anything else AN produced. Hope they believe you and give the game another chance.

Newbies and Realm Transferring

The smart and reasonable thing for them to do would be every account gets one free server transfer. I don’t play the game anymore tbh however if your stuck on one for the majority of the deserted servers in the game it would really suck for you to be stuck on that server now that everyone has transferred off for free.

Like I said don’t personally care but would feel bad for someone now stuck. Would just be more incentive for them to stop playing then spend more $$ to move because of months of free transfers caused a major population imbalance.

In my view, the Trinity Needs to Come Back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

McSlappy.1372

What do you mean ‘needs to come back’?

Its not like you bought it knowing it has a trinity system, and then they changed it. This game never had a trinity system as far as I know.

Do you know what is the cost of redesigning the classes to become a trinity system (assuming you are right that trinity is better)? Might as well make a new game.

That being said, I still don’t understand why would you force yourself on GW2 if you liked the trinity system and you know that this game doesn’t have it.

I didn’t force myself onto anything. I knew this game wouldn’t have the trinity and I was naive enough to think Arenanet would be capable of making it work. Clearly my hope was misplaced.

Clearly it was.

So what are you still doing here?

As a dissatisfied customer it is my right to voice my dissatisfaction and advise the creator of said sub-par product how to improve and maybe win back my support.

Sure it is. But to think for a second that Anet is going to totally revamp the fundamental game mechanics that the game is built upon is just totally naive. If you truly believe the game is broken because of the lack of a trinity then don’t play. <shrug>

Do you WvW? If not, what's stopping you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

McSlappy.1372

As the topic states, if you no longer WvW what keeps you from logging in? Just interested in what drives people away from this feature.

Because there is no sense of server community and rivalry. If you work on a server and make it awesome like HoD and BG back at launch then you’ll just be swapped with band-wagoners. So it’s actually better for your server to not do as well. Also with unlimited server transfers you can move servers every week depending on what your looking for.

In better games such as those made by Blizzard your servers have an identity. Some good some bad. Tichondrius is probably one of the best PvP servers out there. And you will get a sense of rivalry on the forums etc. Between Darkspear, Tich, KT, Illidan etc. You don’t have people flipping back and forth every other week.

In GW2 the whole sense of server identity is kind of meh. Honestly the forums provide more entertainment then the game itself.

I heard transfers are still free just because they are working on the “guest system”, where you can play with other servers PVE. Until that is done it is supposed to go for payments. Though, it wont be much of an issue to keep transfering even with paid methods, with the gold to gems exchange, but atleast it will be controlled and won’t be changing servers every week.

Way too late for that. TA, Ascension, and many other of the alliances, the guilds, and even the members in them have moved on to other games and are not looking back. The server communities are pretty much gone. Ohh well that is something that could have been awesome had it continued that takes it’s place with stuff like, horizontal progression that got thrown out the window by AN.

I am interested to see how well they’re going to do with Esports after they sent Cease and Desist orders to the pro gamers that were streaming their matches a few months ago that have sworn off the game. Good job with that =P

Anyways off to run some BGs cya in a week.

I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.

However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.

Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full. Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?

Server status is based on the number of accounts tied to a server, not the number of players actively online. Even if Tarnished Coast was completely empty of players it would still read full. Shame Arenanet chose to lie about their subscriber numbers like that. : /

Apparently you don’t know how the system works but first…… AN’s subscriber number is 0. No actually it really is 0. Think about it for a minute. Yup still 0.

2nd of all the status of the full server is based on how many players are currently connected to the server and playing. We were able to move entire Titan Alliance guilds to full servers by having several guilds have all their members logout of game synchronized on TS and other voice apps. If what you say were true this wouldn’t work.

It is based on active accounts on the server. Don’t know exactly how many. However I’ll give you the following and you can draw your own conclusion.

At the end of TA when we were moving our and other guilds to other servers. We would have friendly guilds on the server we were moving too do entire guild log outs on Teamspeak. With all the TA members that were wanting to go to that server ready to login. The log out would be called and then 10 seconds later the in coming guild would login. This was usually enough to create a minute or two window to transfer.

Worked more then well enough to get every who wanted to transfer moved to whatever servers they wanted.

Horrible quality. Used to play EVE as my main game. It was awesome back in the day. Been getting worse each expansion for the past 5-6 years. EVE good game garbage company. If the devs would make it so that future expansions require a subscription, it would benefit both the community and also the developers. It would allow for the developers to have resources available to continuously develop new content, and also allow continuous endgame content for players who desire to continue further.

All in all, I believe it was a great decision to make the original game free, but allow for players who desire to play future expansions the ability to subscribe.

Thanks.

This game isn’t really worth free time at the moment let alone a subscription. WoW and MWO Beta have it beat. MWO a little on the grindie side but still only a fraction of the GW2 Grind.

Then the good designers may be able to repair the damage by removing or nurfing the Ascendeds down to the Exotic level. Then they’d only have to figure out how to sell their game to people that have already left.

What grind? Seriously, this game has NO grinds compared to other MMO’s. It has NO gear threadmill worth mentioning. And still people keep referring to this as a WoW clone. I seriously doubt those players played WoW on a raiding level, where a tedious grind every day was required to be even prepared).

This game is very easy going, you can get by perfectly without 1 serious grind.
You can do grinds (for legendaries for example) but that’s your own choice: it’s optional.

You grind instances to get tokens for cosmetic gear. Have you seen what they call legendary, biggest grind I have seen in any MMO. This game has huge grind and it just got a lot worse. Before you had diversity of the world. Now from what I hear you grind one instance over and over and over and over.

If you had to grind everyday in WoW to be prepared you were doing it wrong, sorry. They daily quests that they have now sure if you want to bang out every one your going to be super tired and it will take forever. But that’s not what your supposed to do. If your smart you only do a couple per day to have the max effect.

Since not playing GW2 anymore I leveled up a hunter upon dinging 90 I didn’t need to grind out my 450 item. I walked in to scenario and killed 5 bosses with a friend. No grind at all. I enjoy playing rated and unrated battlegrounds. Will be doing them regardless because I like doing them kinda like WvW. I will over time get the best gear in the game through doing my PvP. I don’t have have grind anything. However if I wanted to I could grind PvE stuff out.

So right now WoW has as much or as little grind as a person wants. Kinda sounds a lot better then GW2 at the moment. I think 10 mil monthly subs confirms it. Bringing in monthly 25% more then GW2s total box sales each month. The numbers have it.

Not gonna happen. Yeah ANet sucks as a company but that’s about all your gonna get. You’d have to prove damages. Good luck. If AN is providing refunds cool. That is their choice. EULAs are debatable if their enforceable or not. Their agreed to after point of sale and can be ruled against as has past cases ruled depending on the circumstances. However some recording by the Devs talking about their vision for what the game may or may not be is not grounds as false advertising. Especially when that was published while the game was in development.

All in all you think you have a chance at a case? Go for it! Let me know how that turns out for you.

People here complain alot about difrante staff and it makes them quit the game. What do u guyz think Anet can change in the game so people would come back or that will draw others into the game?

A they would have to make the Ascended and legendary gear equal to the Exotics again and that would just be the fix.

B now that many have gone on to go back to other games, personally really enjoying MoP a lot more then I thought I would having leveled two characters to 90, they would have to give up a very good carrot to entice people back. Even if they fixed the game now that we are having fun elsewhere why should we abandon our progress there? Possibly giving everyone a precursor of their choosing as a reward. You could even make it a storyline quest. But they’ll have to go over just a fix at this point to bring people back.

Just saying things will be better would be laughable at best.

I have hope that they’ll point out they made a mistake in the AMA, and talk about how they’re going to fix it (it’s OK to admit you made a mistake, ArenaNet! CCP did!).

Unfortunately, that’s just hope. What I think will actually happen is some kind of spin job on the whole thing.

Time will tell. Hopefully they’ll convince me and a lot of other people to give GW2 a second chance.

Like I said I would in previous posts I haven’t logged in the LS event. Didn’t do any of them because I was doing refer a buddy of which we recommended not to get the game. It was just neat for her to see what we had all been talking about for the last few months. But she agreed that if we’re not going to be playing no point in her buying the game. It was fun but not enough to switch from WoW.

What AN spins is really irrelevant. They’ve proven that what they say and do are completely different. The effects which were predicted are already occurring and will continue to get worse. Division of the community, people not on the level playing field they were expecting in the game etc. As time goes on more and more players will bleed away. The wayfair players will go to the new MMOs and the rest of us will go back to WoW which does vertical progression correctly. We generally don’t stay in a WoW knockoff (which is what GW2 has become) for long.

What AN would have to do to fix it would be massive. For most who have left it’s in the past. Few of us still read the forums even though we don’t log in. They’d have to go back to what made the game unique in the industry. Making the Ascended items the same item level as Exotics. They’d have to make the gear drops in FotM equilivant to Orr. That is just the fix……………..

That may stop the bleeding if the game hasn’t become too much of a empty ghost town to make it feel less like an MMO. To bring people back they’d have to come up with some way of getting the attention of people who’ve left the game behind. The problem with that is most of the people are happily seated in their other games (just finished leveling out my hunter now working on gearing) and also figure out a way to say the new advertisements to the people that don’t believe a word they say. So they’d need a huge ad campaign which would cost a ton of money.

Probably it’d have to be an expansion that sets everyone back to an even playing field gear wise. If you come back to the game your prior exotics are the top gear again and for logging in you get a legendary precursor for coming back to the game. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. So RIP but like movie about a sinking ship some people enjoy watching.

Exactly! I really liked the concepts that were advertised about GW2. However I still really like WoW PvP and with MoP they’ve made it even better. Ok CC could be toned down a bit but that’s another issue.

Now that GW2 is going to gear grind it’s just like everything else on a conceptual level. So gonna go play that game that has got it right. If you can get 10mil + people to pay you 15 a month your doing it right =P

That reasoning is surely legitimate from your point of view, and perfectly illustrates where introducing tiers of gear will lead GW2: if ArenaNet tries to fight Blizzard on Blizzard’s ground, they will sorely lose.

The only way they can win (and thus survive and even thrive) is by doing right what WoW did wrong. That’s what they were doing before introducing ascended gear. What we needed was just more content, not a wink in WoW’s direction.

Exactly. You don’t have a chance in beating WoW at their game. They do it perfectly as has been proven no matter what the haters say. Time and time again game companies try and fail. If your are going to succeed you need to make your game as different from WoW as possible. Which is what GW2 was at launch. If I want to play a WoW grind game I’m just going to play WoW.

I really liked the whole idea that after doing my Rated BGs I could log over to my GW2 account and do some WvW before free transfers slowly destroyed that. But I didn’t have to worry about grinding gear. If I have to grind gear I’m only doing it in one game and WoW wins that battle. GW2 should of stayed unique.

Also to set one thing straight. Most of us who are enjoying the new content update coming out never played that horrible game WoW.

I know I personally never touched it, granted I’ve played plenty of other amazing games that have gear progression to them.

Yup so horrible it has as of last earning call over 5 times the number of monthly subs then total GW2 box sales. Yup must be horrible.

I love how he says he never played it, but says it’s horrible anyway. He must be psychic. I’ve played it and I don’t like it, but at least I came to that conclusion on my own, I didn’t just follow popular hate trends. It really must suck to not be able to think for yourself.

GW2 Manifesto looks like the Pirates Code… “Its more like guidelines”

I can see Mike O’Brien doing the Johnny Depp run from all of the former GW2 customers

Firstly a non gear progression clause wasn’t part of your Gem purchase…….

Secondly your not a developer so the Maifesto doesn’t apply to you.

Thirdly anything on Youtube is more of a guideline. Welcome to Guild Wars 2!

Right because Wow is dead.

And that’s a game with gear progression IN PVP.

I’m sorry but your history seems a bit different from mine.

A with the sub numbers going up and currently over 10 mil + WoW is far from dead. But I’m thinking you are being cynical here and I would agree with that. However if this game is going to have gear progression just like WoW well then I’m going to spend my time and money in WoW. Their implementation of BGs and Arena is way more stable and balanced in MoP then GW2. WvW is a joke with free transfers to the server of the week. We were on this game because it was different.

Anyways done posting see you at this weekends event before we move back to WoW. Have a 85 Hunter to work on in the meantime.

I like WvW. Will ascended gear’s better stats count in that? A year from now am I going to find myself at a distinct stat based disadvantage against somebody with all ascended gear in WvW because I don’t want to spend my time grinding for it?

And that is another huge problem with the game. Currently you can buy or craft the end tier stuff or even get it from Karma vendors. If you have to do dungeons to get the new ascended stuff then your forcing PvPers to do PvE and welp we all know how that goes. To the next game!…..or back to others.

I wonder if their really trying to cater to PvEers after they alienated the eSports community with the cease and decist orders on monetized streams. I know several professional eSports teams swore off the game after AN did that. I wonder if loosing it’s PvP community is spurring this change.

ArenaNet. “Take ads off streams of our gameplay”
Streamer, “But eSports and we make money off streaming your game”
ArenaNet. “You will not make money off our game!”
Streamer, “Okay we’ll go professionally play games that we can stream”
ArenaNet. “Where did all of our eSports players go? Hmm maybe we need to add PvE grind to the game.”

1) I wonder about the situation of people who have spent substantial amounts of real money in in-game armour/weapons that are now devalued, because wrong “assuring” information was given to them by Arenanet in advance. Isn’t that actually something similar to fraud?

A good luck finding an attorney to pick that up. Unless you plan to sue and fund it yourself this is an empty threat.

Besides that no you can’t. You paid for an in game currency. Just like in the real markets changes happen and can cause currency to be higher or lower valued. You can’t sue over decisions you made in the past like that. Could you imagine the stock market? I lost money because your stock value went down I’m going to sue you to get my money back!!!! Ummm no sorry. Also look at the real estate market. You buy a house and it devalues. You don’t get to sue the previous owner for fraud.

Gear grinding and dungeon grinding is not what Guild Wars 2 is about

Obviously from the most recent blog it is about gear and dungeon grinding like most of the other MMOs. Too bad their dungeons sucks compared to WoWs.

They wont have a response other than pushing this content live and silently telling us to deal with it. Too bad for them that the way I deal with it is with my wallet.

Forget the wallet. I deal with it by spending time else where. Currently checking the forums for updates in between Mech Drops.
