Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

You say that WoW have raid for people that are into it ? Well so is fractals , if your into it do it , otherwise don’t. And in pvp in GW2 you HAVE the best gear , it does’nt take little effort…It takes NO effort….You can’t get less grind than that. Also Ascended have a 5-10% increase in stats If you dont plan on doing fractals it ain’t needed

But see you ware wrong. If you don’t have Ascended gear you don’t have the best gear in game. What you think is or is not needed is subjective. What has the best stats is not subjective. Ascended gear is the best in game. It is massive grind taking several months to get. So your “NO effort….You can’t get less grind than that.” is the coolaid the devs have been feeding you. Wake up and look at reality and not swallow the hype.

Also if you run up against an opponent that is 10% better then you on all their stats. You have 10% more health and armor to get through of theirs while they’re beating you down 10% faster. It’s WAY MORE then just 5-10% better you don’t need it. Math helps just a hint.

Ohh one thing was going to mention. If this is what free to play games are like. It’s the perfect example of you get what you pay for. I happily give Blizz a monthly sub. The only reason I’d be interested in a GW2 expansion is to actually see the sales numbers on an earnings call and see how many actually play still.

My questions would be when are they going to get back to a game that is played for fun rather then played to grind? Grind for gold, grind for gear. When they released the game it was all about playing to have fun and running around killing Yaks all day in WvW was a blast. Then they brought out Ascended, Fractals, and a slew of other grind fests. I am playing through War Lords of Draenor and there is no sense of grinding at all. Even at the end of Pandaria there wasn’t any grinding. There was some fun guild raids and PUG raids if you were in to that. But the PvP you could get the best gear in the game relatively quickly and then just play.

It sounds like GW2 promised something different from the other big games, but then it evolved to to the worse case of it then any of the other games. Right now not playing GW2 and doing anything else in other games or RL is time better spent.

I don’t know if they can fix that. Even if they did remove ascended gear,(which would tick off a ton, but wouldn’t be the first time they just remove some achievements), or made Legendary’s non pay to win they’d still be going back to a concept that most who have left don’t associate the game with. They won’t get those people back and they’d still be trying to go back and fix a game that’s now 2 years old. Like if they came out with the legendary scavenger hunt. Great we’re now able still have to put a ton of grind in for something that’s two years old……… Dunno how they’re gonna fix the game I don’t know that I could even from that state they’ve put it in. Probably just let it pass in to history as just another next big WoW contender that failed.

Why is exotic gear so easy to get ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: McSlappy.1372

McSlappy.1372

Because back in the day the game was released to be a fun to play. Exotics you could get relatively easy and then play for fun. Then 3 months later the game massive grind fest(biggest and worst in the industry) was introduced. This leads to massive boring grinding over and over to get gold or the pay win route to be used to get the best gear in game. Personally I am paying for a MMO. I’m having way more fun exploring the new content in WoW. More content in the Warlords expansion then in the entire living story released to date. And still WAY LESS GRIND lawl. GW2 promised so much and delivered so little.

The really bad part though is how the game was released was awesome. Then they started changing it and ruining it.

Running around endlessly in circles to get what I want in a game…… Too many fun things in RL to do rather then that. Watch Youtube or Netflix is more entertaining. Doing large events for no reward? I could do large events in other games and get lots of reward. Why play this game?

Having said that, we do need some kind of big game changer, something to shift the game at its core, or some hard (as in having a major impact) effect content, such as a new profession, PvP game mode, race, etc. Yes, I am saying an ‘expansion’ but anet is trying to see it as that, and trying to grow the game by a different method. Whether it works or not, since it seems to be done through the living story, remains to be seen.

GW2 definitely isn’t that. EQ Next maybe but we’ll see. Also a lot is changing in Warlords so that could be interesting too.

There are times I wonder if MMO’s are slowly phasing out. Facebook/mobile games have demonstrated that a game produced at miniscule cost can generate as much or more revenue as an MMO that takes 5 years and who knows how much to make. I wonder if the MMO consumer base is getting older and not adding new players at the same rate as it’s bleeding older players.

Yes. Over all the market is shrinking. The Market share is a lot smaller. LoL blew up that entire class of games. It created its market share. People play games just to play that. WoW did the same thing. While EQ and a few others started it out it didn’t become huge till WoW. Even WoW is in decline from it’s peak of nearly 13 mil active subs down to I think just over 6 mil now. If you stand a chance of being in this market you have to take money away from that game. If you don’t you may be somewhat profitable but probably not worth the investment risk. The market is getting smaller and they still are the chunk of it.

The reason why WoW wins because they do what players over all like and enjoy. There’s something for everyone. If something in another game becomes popular it finds its way in to WoW in some form normally refined. If you want the latest and most researched fun things to do in a game play WoW because they’ll adapt to it. GW2 started out with promoting things that were revolutionary in the industry. But as time went on they changed the game to have none of the good and plenty of the bad.

Like myself getting older and less time for gaming. When I do sit down to play a game I look at it as okay I have a bit of time to burn what shall I do. If I play GW2 I can sit down and do some stuff. Maybe work towards making a few more goal to the thousands needed for the precursor. Just to have to do more later and may get it done a year from now. So I can spend time and get nothing for it. Or I can log in to WoW for the same amount of time to do some PvP and get maybe a piece or two for my set right now. Which am I going to do? 99.9% of the time it’s lets go accomplish something in WoW. Even if there’s no gear involved raising or lowering my PvP rating. It’s something. With GW2 the same amount of time really results in not a whole lot of anything different. It truly is better to do something else then play the game.

Don’t know if they’ll fix it and make it fun or not. If they do cool maybe people will look at it and give it another chance. Or they may look at it and go it’s a 2-3 year old game that sucks why do that again. I don’t know what would happen. Either way for me my money will be spent where the company listens to the playerbase and works to make the game better. Even if it doesn’t always work out and mistake are made, there’s a lot more effort displayed there.

Anyways just bought 5 more months of WoW time so it was a fun two days on the forums and game. See you maybe in another 6-12 months see if anything improved.

Do you believe the hype has been stopped?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: McSlappy.1372

McSlappy.1372

We’d already bought the game, yes. But you know very well that there’s more than that to buy. Players that feel that the game is going to improve are more likely to stick around and spend money on other things related to the game. To let players believe that they’re working on a desired feature, and then quietly end work on it and never get back to it is akin to holding a dog treat in front of your dog to convince him to sit, and then putting the treat away once he does. I can think of twice ANet has pulled this, and I bet others can come up with more.

This exactly. I spend a lot of money on gaming. Multiple EVE accounts and WoW subscriptions. If GW2 had the stuff advertized pre launch all that money from me and tons of others looking at guild rosters would be theirs. But this is not the case.

And TBH even if they came out with the precursor quest and fixed a bunch of the stuff it is probably way too little way to late to get people back. Lets see the game is what two years old now? Even if they came out with the precursor stuff by the end of the year, then takes a few months to get. Is it worth bothering for a game that at that point is 3 years old and really hasn’t gone anywhere? Probably not.

The game maybe fun to mess around with for a few days every 6-12 months or so but definitely not worth spending any more money on.

No it is near a kin to false advertising. However it isn’t really working. Of course they are able to dupe a few people. To be honest it’s okay the first or maybe the 2nd time through so it’s worth the box price. There are games on steam that you can spend the same on and get a lot less entertainment out of. I log in every now and then when they introduced Ascended gear realized the hype about the game was a scam and stopped giving them money in the gem store. Came back and did the WvW Season 1 meta achievement and was not surprised but was hoping against hope still that it would be rewarding. Nope tons of time vs garbage reward delivered. Never again will participate in that. Can’t tell you how many in passing have mentioned trying GW2 while in BGs. Many have been swayed away from wasting their money and time. Logged in again last night after almost a year of not playing. Only 5 people around lately from my release guild. This is probably the worst of the many “WoW killers” that have been hyped about over the years.

That being said once you’ve done everything once or twice the game becomes completely unrewarding. Like the OP mentioned the precursor. The game advertises play as you want. There is no way to obtain a legendary in game without extreme luck or using gems (pay to win) to buy it. To save up to that with the unrewarding loot droops in game is just not worth the boring in game content vs doing things in RL. This effectively makes the game free to play but pay to win.

If this is what most free to play games are like then pay to play is the way better option. I know it is not. LoL from talking to the people i know who do play that game it’s pretty much all cosmetic for cash shop. Again don’t necessarily know 100% for that game because I don’t play it. However I do play WoW and gladly give them 15 a month. If I want a legendary I can go do it. It’s a long list of things to do but it can be done in a reasonable amount of time. The old adage definitely applies, you get what you pay for.

The thing that hasn’t changed since around the Ascended gear came out is the devs claiming to be listening and taking your input. Yet the same things are talked about can be seen briefly reading over the first page of forum threads. The exact same stuff! The devs actions show they are not listening or care at all about what their players are looking for. Hint that’s why WoW while half the subs it once was still takes in 105 mil in subs a month, plus expansions, plus additional cash shop services.

Do you enjoy doing the content the second time? How about the third time? Fourth time? Fifth time?

How many repetitions does it take before your level of enjoyment drops? Before it drops to a point the rewards aren’t worth the repetition?

For me, it’s about 3 times. With some content, more than that, but this is usually just the really awesome stuff.

Three times is laughably small for an MMO. Since the refinement of WoW, the entire genre is based around getting players to repeat content on an ongoing basis by waving carrots in their faces. Even the most lucrative MMO ever relies on these methods. Expecting an MMO that is not the most lucrative to provide content to the extent that players can do said content three times and then be able to move to something new is not realistic. Heck, it’s just not going to happen.

There is a big difference between repeating content for your guildmates or yourself to get loot. At least in the case of WoW and many other games there is a likely carrot at the end of the stick. As most have seen in this game there tends to be just more of the stick.

Dunno from my experience the devs of this game have never been in touch with what players have wanted since release. I check back every so many seasons to see if they actually ever fix the game.

There were constant tons of players bandwagoning to our server so we left. This cause HoD to plummet to if not the bottom dang near close because most of the skilled players left leaving all the unskilled bandwagoning masses there to forge for themselves. Yup they sucked and it showed.

I rolled a human for many reasons including t3 armor etc, people who are calling people who dislike the human cult armor being sold at the cash shop and calling them “kittenes” are morons. The set costs less than half of actual armor. That’s crap, how would you like it if something you paid hard time or money for, had to pick a certain race to get it and suddenly it’s for everyone?

It’s not fair to anyone who rolled a human for the armor because they cannot race change. So stop calling people who complain selfish, you kittenes are the ones being selfish because it’s all benefits for you.

10 real life dollars > make believe money

Your mistaken thought the armor did not cost 10 real life dollars. The armor cost 800gem’s which technically have no real monetary value since there backed by no governments.

Anet made true on there promise when you gave them 10 dollars they gave you 800 gem’s to spend.

This is correct. You choose to give them your money. If you do not feel that you got the value you were expecting perhaps you should refrain from giving them your money in the future.

Because I have now wiped on it repeatedly trying just to get it done. Seems it’s only doable with either very experienced players or with people who have meta knowledge of how it works.

And no WP, which I cannot believe made it through even the most basic test process.

If I were a new player, this experience would convince me to either never enter a fractal again, or switch to a different game. I’m newish, and I know the fractals can be very cool, but this instance is remarkably poorly implemented. Probably the most disappointing thing I’ve seen since I started playing.

I did it with a PUG last night. And we all wiped but one of the guy’s got back in I think by sacrificing his chance at loot we didn’t know. But anyways the while time party chat was mostly ripping on Anet and saying how bad the content was. Getting a box of greens and blues with no gold nor any exotics means this new content is pretty much a big ridden waste of time inline with the previous fractals.

Fortunately this means I’m pretty much done with the game. In a week will be re-subbing to WoW. Got my Season One WvW key and almost time to be out of this mess for a game.

If I liked grinding I would buy a game that is based on it (and there are tons of grind-based MMOs), and not one that promotes itself as the opposite. But maybe thats just me.

Your talking here so you bought GW2. So you have purchased a game based on grind.

Well, no. Since I bought this game under the premise that it would be based on horizontal progression. But youre right about this game (after ascended introduction) being based on mandatory grind.

Sorry didn’t emphasis the sarcasm enough. I know I bought the game based on a next to no grind just as you did. Then 3 months later it turned in to the most grindy MMO in existence. Making WoW look more like the the manifesto then the game they have evolved.

So I’ve looked at the manifesto again this afternoon. Blizzard has delivered on every single point in there except for the trinity which seeing how ANet has failed with it I’d say it’s better the other way. They haven’t reinvented the game but there are elements of everything in the manifesto in the current parts of the WoW expansion and probably will be going forward.

This game has found a niche and there’s nothing else that can satisfy the people who like it.

That is true people that like repetitive grind have an excellent home here.

It may be in the future that something else will come along to challenge that, but so far, it’s not the case.

Challenge? EVE currently as of right now has 46,000+ concurrent connections. With 400,000+ active subs I think it was 500k but don’t have the quote so will knock it down abit X $15 per month comes out to 6mil + a month. That games numbers keep going up. With 24 mil per quarter for GW2 you average about 8 mil a month in Gem store sales. They are generally unstable by their nature but tend to be much much higher profits then a monthly sub. So just vs EVE GW2 is only a little better numerically putting it WAY BELOW trend for the industry.

Don’t even compare to WoW that has nearly as many subscribers each month as dollars in ANets earning call……

There is no challenge GW2s not even a contender lol.

I hope they answer the question why they even think about resetting the Levels. Besides leaderbaords are no excuse because for fair competition they should start at 0.
And if they consider rez orb or doing even or odd Levels only to advance an exploit?

Well while I never got past 30 in fractals, and I never even knew you could exploit past 50. But the reason for the reset seemed pretty obvious to me.

They said that they are introducing a leader board and reworking fractals levels 30+. Even without the leaderboard I still think they’d reset progress (like they did for discoveries in crafting). For ascended crafting it was to allow people to gain exp, here its so no one can already have “beaten” all of their new content, with the Mistlock Instability with a boss level at ever floor.

It makes the people who are already at 48 plus to have to work back up to the top. For crafting it would have been unfair to people that already discovered everything to have to get exp from just crafting (though I saw at least one person angry because he just wanted to discover everything) here it would be unfair to not reset people. If it becomes harder now anyone who was already at 50 would be getting a “free pass” (not saying a lvl 50 fractal is easy, but I think you understand my point) and not have to work up through 30. At least that’s why it made sense to me why everything was getting reset.

soo as a fractals Player I Need to hope that they reset pvp/ wvw ranks as well with next season it’s unfair if they implement legendaries out of pvp chests ( wich they will do (datamined chatcodes already ingame) because some ppl don’t have a that high rank and everybody should start of same feet. If they get the Server Population Thing done with wvw they should reset so not ppl on zergservers have higher wxp ranks than others… you think this is fair.. you only don’t care because it’s an aspect of the game you haven’t played…

it’s sad how ignorant ppl are on those Forums just ignore Facts and stuff …

sad sad ignorant community ….

Actually they will reset your WvW abilities again just like they did this Season. You’ll still have points you’ve earned and can then reassign them where you want them for the next season. I know this is different from your reward level but the difference is the WvW point are “spent” the award from fractals are not. Your not loosing anything your getting scaled down to what 80 would be in the new and coming current scale.

[Merged] Fractal level reset is equity wiped. Discuss.

As far as no reply’s from ANet, they can’t. If they tell you it’s going to happen anyways it’d PR bust. It’s coming out tomorrow so it’s coming out the way they intended so for them the best best is silence and to delete posts and threads. You have a choice. You can like I will try them out and see if they are more rewarding to do then other content. Or not it’s that simple. If you choose to do them cool. If not there other GW2 content or content in other games.

I personally played my part in protesting Anet by this weekend making sure that two people I met this weekend at a gaming group will not bother to even consider buying GW2. They asked what games I play and I listed them and mentioned that they really didn’t wanna even bother with GW2 because…..then went in to many of the unfun blunders they’ve made over the past year. Will continue to get the word out about how aweful it is till they’ve fixed their game.

But for us that already have it you have a choice. Do what if anything you think is fun in the game.

Ether way I spent the time and gold farming so I’d get the better stats then exotic. If there were not better stats would not have bothered so I’d like and many others to get refunds on any crafted Ascended weapons. If they would refund the materials that went in to leveling to 500 and the weapons themselves I’d be more then fine with them getting rid of Ascended gear or making them equal.

To the OP you may want to look in to some psychological analysis by a certified professional. They may or may not be able to help but they can at least let you know if you have anything serious you need to deal with.

Depending on what they say is better rewards it’s a good thing. If the rewards are still not worth the time then it doesn’t really matter that they changed it.

Good luck to new fractal players...

Odds are very good you will find more people running them. I wasn’t about to grind out tons of levels of fractals with no reward to get all the way up to a high level to start getting a chance of drops. It just isn’t worth the time vs other game and RL activities. But now with them dropping more rewards and lower levels it is tempting to do them vs other things like champ trains.

If Ascended Gear was reversed, you’d have an even larger group rushing to these forums screaming just like you are about their inclusion. The masses wanted vertical progression. The masses got what they wanted. I’m sorry it’s not what you wanted.

It’s never going away. Deal with it.

TBH this is probably true. The people that viewed this as a massive blunder and show of incompetence on ANets part have already left for better designed games.

The 3% of players who complain about ascended gear on the forums would ecstatic, 20% wouldn’t care, and everyone else would be really mad.

Care to site a source for those stats? Doubt it.
