If you’re a D/D ele the only way you can get perma swiftness is if you get the Air I trait and waste your auras and swap in and out of air with the V trait in arcana. Oh and btw gg when your Frost Aura is on cooldown because you were using it to roam in the first place…point is we have to trait for it; other classes don’t.
Whether we can 1v1 a class or not is irrelevant. My original post was making the point that we MUST stop and fight practically everyone that picks a fight with us whereas other classes can troll across the entire map until they reach their zergs or keeps. Due to our long cooldowns, and squishiness we can’t afford to run while the other class is hammering us at range. I honestly can’t figure out what kittening math you’re doing to not understand that when 40 seconds of cooldowns are DONE…another class that has an ability on a 10, 15, 20, 25 sec cooldown can catch up.
They are not helpless to kill you. A bunker ranger doesn’t die…has gap closers, can cripple you, not to mention his pet can also have CC like..immobilize..fear.. Good luck killing him with your kittenty dps as an elementalist when he does finally catch up to you. Usually when they catch up it’s just the two of us kitten slapping each other until someone else’s friends show up to help out. My point is..I can’t just run away and move on. If a ranger is set on trolling me well I gotta sit there and deal with it.
Warriors have no problem keeping up or escaping. Blade trail and Rush…both less than 20 second cooldowns. But not to worry though if they are. Switch to warhorn to grant swiftness and remove all movement impairing affects. Every weapon they have has a stun, immobilize, or cripple with less than a 20 second cooldown…most of them 10-15.. So glad I have RTL, LF(which no longer is a stun break), and Forst Armor on 40 + second cooldowns and occasionally FGS that requires you to stop to cast, an elite, can’t cast any of your other spells, and has a 180 second cooldown. How could he EVER possibly catch up to me.
Mesmers. This one I will concede could or could not keep up with you depeneding on different variables; however, it is NOT impossible. Pistol 5, or Focus 4 (probably have one or the other) Sword 3 which you can’t RTL out of. Their blink is only on a 30 sec cooldown and can even trait it for less and it’s a stun break. They can become invulnerable with F4. Many of them have Centaur runes that synergizes well with most of their builds and makes their heal a swiftness buff, that combined with focus 4, which many of them carry for mobility means they have perma swiftness and they can easily catch up after your cooldowns are blown. And let’s say they don’t have Centaur runes..they can still Blink within range after you use RTL to GS you in the kitten the whole time you’re running away. The only thing we can have close to perma swifitness is if we go with the Air Trait that gives our auras swiftness. So, no, it’s not impossible for them to chase down an elementalist. Oh and if the roles are reversed where they’re running away, they have their stealth and invisibilites on top of that. I don’t feel sorry for this class.
Thiefs…lol
Engineeers
Tool Kit : Box of Nails and Magnet 10 and 25 sec cooldowns respectively
Elixir Gun: Elixir F on an 8 sec cooldown
Bomb Kit: Glue on 25 sec cooldown
Grenade Kit: Freeze Grenade on 20 sec cooldown
Med Kit: 20 sec cooldown
Rocket Boots: Cures immobilize, crippled, and chill on a 20 sec cooldown
Guardian:
Chains of light on a 20 sec cooldown…lawl never seen that happen before
Hammer has a immobilize with 1200 range and 15 sec cooldown
Staff has swiftness on 15 sec cooldown
Now look at Elementalists escape skills
RTL – 40 second cooldown
Frost aura – 40 second cooldown
Frozen burst – 25 sec cooldown and they have to be in melee range
^ All the above pray you’re not on attunement cooldown in addition to the above. And lawl if the person chasing you removes your entire ONE condition you put on them with Frost or Frozen burst
Lightning flash – 40 second cooldown
THE OMG BEST SKILL EVER —FGS 180 sec cooldown, stop to cast, and can’t cast any other ability
so….please stop telling me that only one class can catch up. Every other class has either a swiftness or an anti movement ability or BOTH that they can use at least 2x’s some times 3 x’s more often then any of our escape skills.
I’m not a fan of the animation and rings around the wrist either. Simply because it’s like announcing to the enemy player, “HEY JUST SWITCHED TO AIR OVER HERE. Get ready to dodge updraft.”
kitten ….You guys keep bringing up RTL can counter the one X skill on a class. Yes…ONE time…once the cooldowns are done on an ele they are DONE and the other class can catch up. Another class just simply has to wait a few seconds for our our cooldowns and then they’re on our kitten again. They don’t have to go across the map to accomplish this…just simply wait less than 20 secs.
Again, a situation where skills are put to the wrong use and then used to invalidate those skills and indeed the entire class.
Does no one in this thread know how to use a staff? This is just sad….
Show us, oh glorious PvP masters. Teach the peasants how staff is an amazing weapon and isn’t a free kill like every other person in the entire game thinks it is.
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm
Here’s a free video capture program if you don’t have one. Show me your incredible use of staff.
Yes, and while you’re at it, show us how DD eles can escape any class with 40+ second cooldowns.
You just listed every class as if they’re stuck to one weapon and can’t swap to another weapon set that affords them the mobility they need to come after you.
Oh good to know we need to use an elite skill on a 180 second cooldown for an escape….sounds balanced. I’ll say it again. YES, we have tools to escape; but, it doesn’t matter cuz every class can outlast our long cooldowns on those escapes. What don’t you get about the fact that all our escape skills have a 40+ second cooldown and other classes skills to counter them are under 20?
Again…we’re talking about the ability to bow out of a fight. Mesmers are balanced in the fact that they have stealth options to get out of combat which makes up for their lack of swiftness buffs. Even then, most go with rune of the centaur which synergizes well with most mesmer builds anyway.
I play an 80 mesmer, which was my first main, and I"m now going back to. Their ability to disengage is leaps and bounds greater than my ele’s. Decoy (stealth, stun break), Blink (half the cooldown of lightning flash AND still a stun break), Mass Invisibility (another stealth). Also F4 for invulnerability. And if you have staff equiped that’s a blink every 20 seconds.
Thieves are just a joke. As stated before..best mobility, best burst, stealth when they still newb up the above.
Anyone who thinks an elementalist is more mobile and has a better ability to disengage greater than any profession save a necro just flat out has never played one for any length of time.
That’s the whole point. We used to be able to disengage, but according to A-net’s logic it’s only OP for an elementalist to do it, but if it’s a thief their response is, “move on; you’re not going to catch them.” No kitten…they really said that.
Hi Isaiah,
Could you post a video of you fighting in WvW or sPvP with all these great changes. I think that would be a bit more enlightening to see it in practice
People won’t blow condi removal on a chill?…hmmm… is that right.. I’m not saying that we don’t have any tools. What I’m saying is that every other class can out last the few mobility tricks we have. If someone is bent on pursuing us, after a few sec of us blowing every escape trick we have…they’re right there on our nuts. So, again…your only option is to fight every single player that picks a fight with you or die running away.
BTW just because our skills make our characters’ bodies “move” doesn’t mean we’re the most mobile. When we refer to mobility we mean being able to move in and out of danger. Just because my ele is flopping around like a fish out of water due to spell animations doesn’t mean it’s mobile.
Even ANet recently admitted that Ele’s were the most mobile of all professions, so I’m not sure that I understand your point. The one profession that actually has no means of disengagement or escape — per ANet’s stated design — are Necros.
It’d be interesting to know what build/weapons you run with that you feel you can’t escape at will.
ummmm then Anet is just dead kittening wrong…sorry. I’m usually d/d with a mix of zerker, celestial, and cavalier gear. Before patch did 0/15/0/25/30. Since patch…can’t make up my mind on what half -as- spec to use.
The problem is…other classes have spammable conditions for chill and cripple. Yes, we have condition removal but the second you take it off you’re back to where you started. We have dagger water 3 on a cooldown, earth 3 if it ever hits…like….ever, maybe earth 4…but since you have to be close to the target, I would think that defeats the purpose of getting away. Ride the lightning once..and gg while they giggle and catch up….sooo how are we the most mobile profession exactly?
Staff is actually more mobile than d/d. You can lay down air 5, earth 4, water 4 fields. But, again…the net gain you have on running away is usually negated by other classes’ ability to spam movement impairing conditions on you.
I think what annoys me more than anything about this class is that you MUST stop and fight everyone that picks a fight with you. I can’t tell you how many times in WvWvW or in sPvP I simply just want to get from point A to B, and here comes the troll Ranger, Thief, Warrior, Mesmer, Guardian, Necro, Engi that will NOT leave you alone. I can’t run away because if I do they’ll just tear me down, so I’m forced to fight. I fight and then if I’m actually winning I feel like every class has a way to disengage (but OMG RTL was overpowered cuz god forbid if we could disengage like any other class). And every other class knows it because they actively seek us out since we have no way of escaping. Our cantrips, before their nerf just simply gave us like 3 seconds of breathing room before class X goes back to two buttoning our life away. I’m speaking from the perspective of an 80 Ele and 80 Mesmer. I definitely don’t feel like I’m constantly being trolled to death on my Mesmer like I do my ele.
Maybe it’s perspective. I certainly wanted to play my ele because I like the fact that it is a class that relies on synergy on multiple ability combinations rather than hitting 2,2,2,2,2,2,2 stealth, 2,2,2,2,2 like a thief. Definitely not bored playing an ele. Just get frustrated with the little reward you get from playing it well.
agreed. I don’t know why this is such a difficult thing to code into the game.
If dev is already struggling to balance classes, why was a new condition thrown into the game – torment? Furthermore, what was the thought process for giving it to Mesmers and Thieves? Were they struggling to keep up with their opponents?
What was the reasoning behind placing a stun break on glyph of elemental power? It is an on use ability to add to one’s dps, but now it has to be saved as a get out of jail free card? It’s like a bad infomercial. Check out this great new tool wrench/pliers! No, you now have a tool that is a crappier version of its two originals.
Why are you trying to make lightning flash an offensive skill? In your experience, did you see elementalists teleporting TOO danger? Do you honestly think the added damage bonus is a sufficient incentive for elemental to start using this ability offensively?
Will there be any consideration to having an out of combat weapon swap?
Can the cooldown on Ride the Lightning be reduced for out of combat if it doesn’t hit a target?
What vision DOES dev have for the elementalist? Due to our low hit points, low armor, low damage output, nerfed mobility – what is your expectation of this class?
How exactly did an ele “wreck” your zerg?!?!?! I’m assuming the ele would attack for a few seconds and run back inside the keep. Was he a D/D ele cleaving the raid with entire 1-2k lightning whips? Did he single out the most important player in the zerg and get a 5k fire grab? Did you let him sit there and cast churning earth for 3 seconds? Did you guys wipe to this OP’ness?
(edited by Mek.2947)
It wrecks structures.
This
I just read the link to the upcoming changes. What irritates me more is the fact that thieves are getting the condition torment. As if they didn’t have enough tools at their disposal to be up your a—h0le already. That one condition being added to the game is going to hammer us hard since our survival is dependent on our mobility.
I hope they dont forget to change the cooldown accordingly when they move the stunbreak. A non stunbreaker lightning flash has then no reason to have a longer cd than the mesmers stunbreak blink for example
^this. unfortunately, the mesmers blink spell is also a stun break. it already has no reason to have a longer cooldown.
Our’s does damage. Although I don’t think I have ever used it as a mechanism to damage the enemy.
I dare to say, that elite players, the ones who are skilled, experienced and don’t need any more lessons how to play, are NOT the core of the game community. They are maybe 10% of the whole playerbase, maybe even less. 90% are people who are average players. Telling them “l2p” just because they have problems with the hide and seek concept of fighting a thief is just a proof of arogance.
You know, we tried telling everyone how to kill us multiple times. The only thing that ever came out of it was spam and flame. Now we feel its more practical to tell everyone l2p since it packs everything we’ve said into 3 letters and brings about more of a response.
If the thief community keeps telling everyone to l2p, eventually they will l2p and then come back with testimonies like the second link in my sig. So no we are not arrogant, we just want everyone to get off our kitten .
Yes, your sig is a thread where the OP gives an apocryphal story with no specifics as to how he manages his liteness against thieves as a warrior, and every other post in the thread gives actual specifics about how yes….stealth is in fact difficult to counter. It’s pretty ironic that the thieves mantra in these forums is “L2P we can easily be countered” when in fact the only way stealth is countered is when the thief himself doesn’t know how to L2P.
Dear Blankverse,
I am not a stealthaholic and I have been sober for 3 months.
L2P
Love,
Zacchary
ooooh someone had a well thought out explanation of how thieves are in a tricky situation where thieves can be god mode, but can’t be fixed without completely breaking them, and it took less than one page for one to write L2P.
….and the thief community is shocked, SHOCKED!! that there’s so much hate towards them.
I started off with an 80 mesmer for my main, and now I have a level 80 ele. I mostly do WvW with guildies, in either small scale skirmishes or participating in the zergs to take out a keep.
I LOVED my mesmer, but it’s hard to tag people due to limited ranged AoE. However, if you can find a 1v1 or a small scale skirmish they’re loads of fun. Mesmers do have some great utility as well with their portals, feedback, mass invisibility.
I do like my elementalist way more in WvW. I just feel like the ele is more well rounded. Small scale skirmishes I can help chase down runners, support the group, while dealing damage using D/D. If I’m in a zerg then I can switch to staff and soak up the badges.
Edit: I never considered the slowness of mesmer when deciding. For me, I didn’t think that was too game breaking with focus and blink.
I was just wondering if you would ever consider allowing race changes for a gem purchase. When I first started the game I didn’t know anything about the races and their culture gear. Now that I’m well into the game almost a year later I know this stuff. I would have loved to pick a human for my mesmer instead of a norn due to the fact their culture gear looks more “mesmerish”. I really don’t want to start over from 80 again.
I know there’s the whole story component, but maybe there could be some type of quest or something to go through the story modes …or changing race could be part of the story.
I think we’ve all been in that boat when we first start sPvP. It takes a while to get used to your abilities and cooldowns. You’re just really going to take it up the a— by everyone until all your skills become second nature. I found reading Dark Phoenix’s guide very helpful. If nothing else I learned about combos I never considered.
I have to say last night I respeced from 0/10/0/25/30 to 0/0/20/20/30. I used Celestial trinket with berserker rune. For armor I used two monk, two water, and two melandru. OMG it was God mode!!! Damage was a little weak but you really do outlast everyone. skills I used mistform, lighting blast, and armor of earth with glyph of elementals.

Did you know that thief can easily chain 12 seconds of stealth from just 1 black powder? (4 x hs)
Yeah, and if you attack someone while stealthed…you’re no longer stealthed. That’s 12 seconds where the thief is useless at doing anything but hiding.
No, its 12 sec of him wasting time of few other ppl, because if they justleave him, he will kill dolly, destroy siege or w/e
You don’t need to be a thief to destroy a dolyak or siege. :-P
Nope, you only need to be a thief if you want to destroy a dolyak or siege with 5+ people guarding it and get away.
Fixed that for you. Any high burst build can do it easily, its the getting away part that is hard for anyone but a thief.
Touche…everyone else needs to WP back afterwards.

The honest truth is vs a good thief there is no way you can win. I do not mean every fight. I mean that on paper and in practice with perfect play a thief always wins. That being said there are things you can do to stop some of what they do. 1v1 your not going to out run the thief. However be aware of where you are in relation to water. If you can get to it then get to it. Thief water combat is weak and ele while low DPS is strong in the CC side. Once you get there if you do the right things for a glass cannon thief this is simply a fight they can not win.
In the wild far away from water its burst and hope hes dumb enough not the reset the fight. The higher the tier the less likely this is. However vs most thieves you’ll do just fine scepter dagger bursting. Remember channels follow you into stealth so use the ones you have. CC is good but most thieves carry enough stun breaks and ports to make ele CC a joke. Conditions will work vs many glass specs until they decide to drop shadow step.
The best advice I got is CC on the run and make a run fr it yourself. Never stand still and try to say aware of the thief’s location. Get some help.
Not to give an impossible to beat impression. Some classes can wreck a thief if things go just right. Mesmer has a shot with focus offhand and so does engineer with a tool kit and nades. However thieves are one of the best 1 v 1 classes and likely that wont be changing much.
Pretty good advice. I’ve found that 1v1’ing a competent thief is impossible. If the going gets tough they just press their “i don’t feel like losing this one” button…and wait for cooldowns.
One tip for D/D that might give you a fighting chance against stealth is generally they do pop it when they realize “oh sh—- they’re actually reacting to me.” When you get their health to below 50% (this is assuming they haven’t killed you from 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, already) that’s when they usually press their I win stealth button. If you correctly anticipate this, cast your earth 3 ability to root them, followed by earth 4 for KD. Then unload all your PBAOE and pray that you actually killed him. I doubt you will get your earth 5 ability off in time, so you might want to use arcane wave, earth 2, fire 2, and water 2, and water 3 and throw some lightning whips in there. You won’t see any numbers indicating that you actually hit him so at that point it’s guess..and maybe you’ll see him in a downed state.
If you did, congrats you brought him to phase II.
Try to heal yourself up. Your first stomp won’t be successful unless you have lightning blast…and even then if he times his number 2 downed ability well, you won’t have time to locate him to lightning blast to his new location, so it may take 2 attempts.
More often then not though, I’ll spam every defensive cooldown…but it doesn’t matter. They just have to face slam 222222222222222222222222222 until you’re dead. You won’t be able to outrun him so don’t try. The most you can do is make him work a little harder for his kill.
I like that the loot bags spawn at your feet instead of having to actually loot the person’s body. However, they are very difficult to notice, and I find myself spamming FFFFFFFFFFF in addition to my abilities. Even THEN… I will be dead or about to leave the area and notice that I missed a bag or two.
Things to help:
1)Make badges currency that automatically gets awarded instead of looted.
2)Make looting an AoE with a large range. Like press F once and loot all bags within a 1200 foot area.
3)And if Anet wants to go balls out…after implementing #2 above, make it so that you can loot the bags until you WP back.
I know they look good already, but I’m just wondering if they’re still a work in progress.
Is anet still looking into updating the legendaries, or was the patch a few months ago it? I’m having a hard time deciding between bifrost and incinerator for my ele. I like that incinerator changes some of the spell effects, and also leaves a ground aura. However, I don’t like that it only appears when you have it drawn.
I love the bifrost skin and the aura, but it has no spell effects. I would love for it to change my meteor storm into falling care-bears that explode into hearts or something hahaha.
Decisions, decisions….and I don’t know what to do because I don’t know if they’ll get beefed up at all..
(Note: we all know meteorlogicus and menstral need an update, so I’ll save you the time by acknowledging it now.)
Did anyone even see the thief? from the video he was either in perma stealth or culled out or not rendered by you client due to your settings.
If in deed he is in perma stealth that is just kitten how can you fight or target something you can’t see further more how is that balanced? sure i can see tell tales of stealth application but he is long gone from that spot rather quickly.
Your point? Was he going to backstab one shot the gate? It’s not like the thief is drawing a battle marker, he’s just being a nuisance.
Honestly, this.
I see so much “OMG LOOK @ PERMA STEALTH” but I never see “OMG look…he didn’t do a single thing to anyone nor can he!” Yes it can be bloody annoying but really, what’s he gonna do in there? Port players in? Gank every character as they get out? Solo the entire keep? Kill all your outter wall siege? No. All he’s doing is kitten ing you off and guess what, people let him.
I would agree to just move on, except one night my guildies and I had to waste much of a night in WvW because of this. The reason being,..there was a dead mesmer who wouldn’t release inside the keep. This mesmer/thief combo did this to eeeevery keep we took. While the rest of the zerg mindlessly moved on and took keeps we had to sit there and get trolled by a thief. Otherwise we would lose a keep which we invested gold and resources to D up to a cheap one-trick pony class.

Stealth classes in every MMO are always OP just by the simple fact that it allows those classes to pick and choose their battles and plan out their approach.
Anyone who has this mindset will forever be terrible at MMO PvP. I am literally disgusted that people have so many issues with stealth based characters in literally every game they play. If you haven’t learned to adapt to the play style yet, you are a hopeless cause.
Yes, stealth characters usually are OP in most MMO’s. For the first month or two. Then, like clockwork, people kitten and complain about them to the point where they are perfectly balanced for that game. But because people have a stigma against it already, they continue to complain under false pretenses that “The Rogue only beat me because of his class, plz nerf!!!”. Yes, reveal timer could be longer, and Anet could get rid of Stealth stacking. Too bad you’re STILL going to die against them and blame the class.
Just look at WoW during The Burning Crusade. Rogues could take down squishy targets easily, but against heavy armored opponents (Warriors + Paladins) they had to resort to asinine tactics to even compete. But people continued to complain, and when WotLK came out, Rogues really weren’t up to snuff anymore.
Funny how that same mentality still applies to GW2, where EVERY class is squishy unless geared for more sustain. But apparently people just want to be Glass Cannons, then complain when they shatter from a hammer to the face against a class designed to pick it’s battles.
Throw some Knight’s gear on there, deal with the slightly less damage, and survive Thief bursts with ease. It’ not like Thieves don’t have the LOWEST base HP pool in the game (Guardians have Heavy Armor and constant Regen, so they really don’t apply).
You just quoted part of what I said, and then said I’m terrible without stating one thing wrong with my arguments. Thieves have an insane amount of burst, and when the going gets tough they can leave the fight. Stealth as a mechanic should only be used as a gap closer, not an I don’t feel like losing button.
BTW I’m not a guardian, I’m an ele..so don’t cry to me about health pools.
2) There are also false-postive mines. You’ll shoot them with the correct ray, the hit will register, and the mine will change to its green color. However within 2-3 seconds after the color switch, the mine will instantly revert back to its hostile state and it will trigger if you’re close. These mines seem to be rare and only showed up around 5% – 10% of the time. Once Canach does his move to trigger all of the mines in a room, these false-positive mines un-bug when they respawn (though they can still be affected by Bug #1).
Are you sure that this isn’t because of Canachs skill when he reactivates all the mines?
Cause when he does that all green mines turn red again. With a bad timing your green mines won’t be green for long.
I had the same thing happen to me. I’m 100% sure I deactivated the mine. It would appear green and then revert back to red. I only remember because, when I first did it, I was confused as hell. They exploded when I deactivated them and they exploded when I didn’t…It took a few deaths but I finally figured out it didn’t catch for whatever reason.
Can we please get an out of combat weapon swap? Would it really be that game breaking? I know there are probably other threads out there somewhere on the same issues…but…I figure if you throw enough kitten on the walls some of it will eventually stick.
Dramatic much? Yes everyone should be prevented from playing because YOU like to use siege equipment.
Just to add to my QQ train about this topic. Last night I was trying to do map discovery in WvW. Naturally I come across a ranger who would NOT leave me alone. I’m semi bunkerish build. I follow dark phoenix guide using 0/15/0/25/30 with a mix of zerker and toughness gear.
Anyway, we were underwater fighting. I killed the ranger FOUR TIMES. In underwater combat you can’t stomp the person so you have to DPS them down to kill them in downed state. All four times I could not kill him in time before his pet could do lick wounds and resurrect. This fight went on for like 15 min. Finally about 5 people showed up and finished me off…so yey for him..he got a loot bag and I didn’t get kitten for killing him 4 kittening times.
I guess I could have killed the pet? Problem is…then he gets free dps to do whatever he wants to me which would have ended up in my dying anyway.
Sooooo excited about Air 1 fix….now for Fire 5…..
How are laurels only accessible to PVE players? Are there not PvP dailies too? I’m not following.
PVP != WvW.
While they did add a WvW Daily, that’s one per day, and for those who don’t touch PVE or PVP, they don’t get the monthly.
I’ll let you do the math on that one.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Daily
8 of those you can do without leaving WvW….you need 5 to complete a daily…I’ll let you do the math on that one.
How are laurels only accessible to PVE players? Are there not PvP dailies too? I’m not following.
I liked Warhammer Online’s approach to stealth. Stealth had a timer. I think it was like 20 seconds or so. The only purpose of stealth was to grant Witch Hunters and Witch Elves the ability to access the enemy lines to take someone out – that’s it!
Stealth classes in every MMO are always OP just by the simple fact that it allows those classes to pick and choose their battles and plan out their approach. For thieves in GW2 right now it’s indefinite, whereas every other class must think on their feet and deal with the blows as they come. You can nerf their damage as much as you want. The problem is they have an insane amount of survivability because they can bow out of any fight that’s too tough for them.
I’ve been using d/d in some dungeons like CoF, AC, and some fights in TA. At the beginning of TA with all the volatile flowers I find it easier to use staff air. I haven’t really been running anything else lately. I’ve been following da.phoenix’s guide, and in it he has a link to a dps PvE dungeon spec 0/15/0/25/30. He said it’s for staff or scepter, but I’ve been using it for D/D and it works pretty nicely.
I think most groups appreciate having an ele in the group for the combo fields, might stacks, aura shares, and heals.
Appreciate? WHAT?
Combo fields are already flawed by their design.
Their offensive part creates conditions with the stats from the finisher.
1.) Nobody runs a condition build, which means that every combo is basically crap with absolute minimal duration and literaly no damage.
2.) Projectile finisher are on range weapons, which are designed to suck compared to the glorious greatsword master race. Finishers are therefore rare if you don’t run with several rangers. (which are also better in meele range)The defensive part requires blast finisher. When was the last time you saw somebody using a mace or hammer? (no counting elementalist with lightning hammer build) Propably never, since if you are already meele, you’d most likely chose the option that deals damage.
Also, as already said, might is easier caped by warriors and guardians, Same for fury from our auras by warrior banners.
Aura sharing? Which one? Chill? If it’s already on the enemy it doesn’t change anything. Magnetic? -> Wall of reflection/feedback. They also work on ground projectiles and not only if the enemy actually targets the player.
Lightning? Fine, but the uptime doesn’t justify it.That leaves us with the healbot. Yes, we are quite good healbots, but they arn’t necessary as soon as people learn to dodge. From that point it’s “LF FULL ZERK PING GEAR, MAX DPS, SPEEDRUN!”
Staff Water 4 & 5 blast finishers give instant heavy heals
Staff Fire 2 & Earth 2 can be stacked on top of each other for additional blasts and area might as well as stacked within Water 5 for heals.
Staff Air 5 cc’s and adds vulnerability
D/D
Fire field → Earth 4, Earth 5, Arcane Wave if you have it.
S/D Dragon tooth → Fire Field → Phoenix → Earth 4 → Earth 5 → Arcane Wave if you have it again = a kitten-ton of might.
Also you’re making it out like projectiles are the only finshers…there’s this thing called whirls that melee have access to.
Sorry mispoke about auras. I meant elemental attunement →Might, Regneration, Swiftness, Protection….don’t think those are exactly worthless boons in a dungeon.
I think most groups appreciate having an ele in the group for the combo fields, might stacks, aura shares, and heals. On top of that you can do some decent damage. I find D/D to be kinda difficult due to mobs aggroing based on proximity, damage & toughness. If you have toughness you might have to switch those stats out with vitality.
The only groups that don’t want ele’s are like speed runners that only have a mesmer, guardian, warrior.
I’m not saying I beat other classes and rangers are my only problem. There are definitely other classes that beat me on a consistent basis. I’m just saying that it’s not an instant win for them. They actually have to work to get the kill. I think rangers know it too cuz they will chase me across the map to get their kill. Maybe it’s just perspective…I don’t know.
The only thing that’s glass canon about my build is the berserker daggers. All my other equipment has vitality or toughness on it. I will admit I don’t have much healing. The problem is, with gearing high into healing you’re gimping already average dps and then you REALLY have no burst as an ele.
I’ll play around with some healing. I know I started with the tank ele stats and I had a really difficult time. I didn’t get killed easily, but I sure wasn’t killing anything either. All I was doing was just tickling other people’s balls.
Nah it’s cool. I’m just wondering if it was something I’m missing about how to deal.
And if you go to their forums they talk about how broken they are……like, what more do you want? Like do you want the pet to actually eat the other player in one bite and then sh——- a picture of the player’s decomposed body on the player’s class forums?
GOD they make me nerd rage and QQ more than any other class. I will take a thief, warrior, guardian, mesmer any day over a ranger. I don’t know anything about their class other than they have a set it and forget it pet that does ridiculous dmg and cc, they can rip you to shreds from a distance, and when you do close the gap, they take sooooo little damage. Granted I’m not the best pro ele in the world, but I feel like if another class kills me, they at least had to work for it. I generally go D/D 0/20/0/20/30 with arcane aoe blast/projectile skill and ether renewal.
I have valkyrie gear with divinity runes, toughness for my accessories (forgot the names and I’m at work), and berserker daggers. rune of battle and accuracy.
Any tips?
