In before Cosley has full on diarrhea in the thread about GS.
I was running Oscicat’s non-shatter cat build for a while – (20/20/30/0/0) with staff/scepter/torch and full rabid. I really liked it, and it definitely has huge survivability and great for trolling. But, I just had a really hard time actually killing anyone.
I hadn’t run a shatter build in a while, and switched to 20/20/0/0/30 last night with full zerk gs/staff, and I was having a blast. I was waaaay squishier but also able to unload some pain.
That was good for hot join, but I’m still conflicted for WvW. I like being able to do small skirmish, but I also like PU build just for the buffs that we give to everyone…so can’t make up my mind
It will be interesting to see what the next patch does. Some of the classes are just ridiculous and I’m glad they are finally getting the nerf bat they need. There was a warrior who was soooooo bad last night but kept winning a lot of fights. He attacked every clone before the player just swinging aimlessly and just flat out terrible. He could survive his terribleness with his regen, and put out a ton of damage when he actually did land a hit, and was still able to scoot by. THEN he has the nerve to brag as if he were good. Playing against warriors is like playing chess with pigeons. They just knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and then strut around claiming victory.
Would Scholars be the best DPS increase for PvE? I have two sets of gear..one for WvW and one for PvE. WvW I use perplexity on rabid gear with PU staff/scepter/torch build. I run 10/10/0/25/25 phantasm build for PvE with zerk gear. Just wondering if there was a better option then scholars and why.
I actually like the glow effects and I think the designer of the Sylvari armor is the best in the game. There isn’t a weak armor set in all the tiers. But whatever. Can’t please everyone, and some people will complain about anything.
I’m kinda confused about what you’re arguing for? Less skimpy armor for women or more skimpy armor for men? I personally would like to see more armor that can make male toons look like a stud. Let’s get some chest, delts, thighs, and biceps in the mix.
I mean it’s a suggestion. Is it urgent? no. Is it worth rerolling a character just to have a different look or different racials? For me that would be a no too. People are just saying they would welcome a purchasable race change and spend money to do it.
People are also saying that there aren’t any cons to allowing it. It’s more money in Anet’s pocket and the people who want the race change probably wouldn’t care about the story being auto-converted to another story of another race.
If they coded it, then I think it would be beneficial to everyone. If you’re that much of an RPer to where you would be concerned about it…..then don’t purchase it if they make it available.
MIND
BLOWN!!!
OMG weapon dyes is an awesome idea!
edit: I don’t know how you could make that work with particle effects.
Agree with OP. I would love to have a race change. It’s not that you had no clue what your character looked like leveling it to 80, it’s just that maybe you didn’t know all the things that were available. For example, my first character and my main to this day is a Norn Mesmer. When I first started this game I had no clue what culture gear was or what it looked like. Had I known about it, I would have made a human. So, I think people would like to switch races in light of new information they come across throughout their game play.
I think the arguments against it are weak. As far as personal story goes …just come up with an equation. If you chose path 1 as a Human then that equals path 1 as a Sylvari, etc. If RPers are that worried about it then let them reroll.
In regards to the culture gear achievement, you receive the achievement when you BUY the gear, not when you equip it. So just have a conversion for the skins. If the person wants the achievement then they can buy the gear again.
How much life do you usually get from Mug? I’m debating between 10 in Deadly Arts for mug or 10 in Acrobatics for Descent of Shadows. I’m currently level 38, but plan on making my Thief for WvW. Mainly do small havoc squads of 5 -10 people.
That’s the biggest thing that makes this class a whipping board. Every other class has a meta that allows them crazy survivability and still able to dish out pain as opposed to eles who can I guess somewhat survive for a few add’l seconds and not put out any dmg in the process. I don’t know how you can survive without going 30 in arcane or water and using heavy vit/toughness gear. You can’t even go full toughness without vitality because you’ll end up with a WHOPPING 10k hit points. Most classes can easily dish out 8k + dmg within a matter of seconds even when you have 1600 + toughness.
Oh and can I just say…immobilize is ridiculous now. So glad I have my earth 3 ability on dagger that never lands so I can participate in the immobilize wars.
I really try to play this class because I do like the play style. But, after a few hot joins I just rage quit and start playing my Mesmer.
This class really is a whipping board for every other class. I took a break from ele for a few months to play my original main, a Mesmer. I figured I’d try out the new ele changes in sPvP last night..OMG…I seriously was ready to punch my monitor.
I had to pull every trick out of my a— just to not insta die..meanwhile, I wasn’t doing any damage that would put a dent in any of the regen builds that everyone is running. I might add that I was running a soldier rune in sPvP and people were still able to tear me apart. If I killed someone with staff it’s because they kitten kitten ed and marinated in the OBVIOUS pbaoe on the ground, or if I was running dagger dagger…hmm come to think of it I don’t think I killed anyone with dagger dagger.
I don’t understand why guardians, rangers, necros, engineers, mesmers, and warriors have so much survivability while still able to keep pressure on their opponents, but nope not eles…that would just be IMBALANCED!!
Can’t say for certain but I think the reasoning is that a single conjure is actually 5 skills.
At the loss of 20 other skills.
Anyone try this yet. I notice that they can’t stack together.
I’ve tried it out in sPvP and WvW and LOVE it.
I have trouble playing against Rangers (whichever ones are the ones traited to never die..they don’t stomp me, but I can’t kill them either),
Necros, and Engineers or Thiefs that can place turrets and traps in enclosed areas where you don’t have room to run around. Basically anyone that can load you up with conditions and have high removal or toughness can give you problems. That’s just conditions in general, I don’t think that’s anything specific to Mesmers.
I have one question though. Does debilitating dissipation apply conditions when the clones shatter due to being replaced by new ones, or is it only when a player/mob kills it?
Only if we get a fan lift like Kitana
Only want MH pistol cuz I think Quip is so mesmerish, but it’s kind of a waste in OH spot.
I don’t understand why Anet doesn’t have test servers like WoW where the player base can test changes and offer feedback on how these ideas work in practice. I really like this game, but lately there have just been some bone headed ideas that could have been avoided if they were piloted better.
Yes. Lets all cry a river.
Its funny. Ive never run glamour bomb, never run veil bot, or been expected to be some sort of portal kitten. Yet my commander was contacted by the enemy BG forces we often face asking after me. They conveyed their feelings on how good I was.
I think you need to look deep inside yourself and stop blaming Anet for whatever it is youve got going on. Hell, just yesterday a random guy on my server pm’d me to say I made him want to roll mesmer. No more excuses. Get out there. Be awesome.
Just curious…what spec/armor set/weapon set do you run that attracts the attention of the masses?
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has tried using celestial gear in WvW and what were your thoughts. I currently run Staff/Sw/x 0/20/20/0/30 shatter build. I’m looking to update my gear for more survivability without sacrificing too much dmg (currently using all zerk with cavalier trinkets 2.5k armor – a warrior hit me for 16k with kill shot yesterday with this gear…..so yeah…guess I need more toughness).
Thanks for the great feedback. Do you know if those boons get applied to the anyone who passes through it, or just yourself?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering what you think might be a good zerg build. My guild likes to run WvW organized zergs, where we have about 10+ people running together. Our goal is to take on groups that are much larger than us. We usually ball up and gather blast buffs and run as a group into the enemy. Our goal is survivability with as much disabling of the opponent as possible.
For this style of play I’m thinking of going with something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsaWl0zqqHWTqGb9IhJFDH5nUw8mj6R3tO3B-jEyAYfioRSEIRIQpPBtEoCbZrIas6aMlLRUtQAsmAA-w
Galmours traited to blind, null field to remove their boons and our conditions, Staff to add AOE buffs, Mirror Images for additional reflects.
Anything you would do differently trait/skill/stat wise?
Edit: updated spec with armor stats
(edited by Mek.2947)
you still take a greatsword with 30/0/0/10/30 but just swap for the 100b and swap back to your a+m. Any other build is simply not as effective.
Exactly, he is right.
Even with Greatsword, 30-0-0-10-30 will give you more overall DPS.
For further info read this
I’m definitely no expert on the class. I just got to level 80 on the warrior myself 2 weeks ago with full exotics. I’ve tried running this build in fractals, and I find it really hard to be melee in a lot of the fights. I know people say learn to dodge blah blah…but the problem is you can dodge two attacks but what then if the boss is up your kitten
I don’t think that’s a good spec to start off with unless you’re running something easy like CoF. I think I’m going to go with rifle/GS with 30 in arms and the VII rifle trait and 15 in defense for the passive regen with healing signet equipped until I get used to the fights. Because right now my group just picks me up off he floor the whole time if I try to melee.
If nothing else let the clones show off hands.
OMG using seige to defend and zergs to take other towers is soooooooooooooooooo stupid in WvW.
pfft Noobs…4 man kitten like REAL players.
I’ve always wanted to respond with a haiku so here I go!
Warriors are OP
Dodging more effectively
Huge animation
Oh and I forgot to mention. I like to do small skirmishes with 1 to 2 parties, taking camps and towers.
Hey everyone,
I’m leveling up a warrior (have an 80 ele and mesmer so far) and I want to do PvX. A couple things that I know will hamper me, but I can’t get past:
1. I want to use GS. I plan on getting Sunrise and well I want to show the kitten thing off wherever I go.
2. I only want to have one set of armor. I plan on getting the tier 3 culture gear and I can’t really afford to transmute more than one set of gear with it sooo….yeah want to show that off too.
So yes, I know my shallowness will not make for the most ideal situation , but I’m looking for ideas to make the most of what I plan to have equipped. With that said, I plan on having full zerk for PvE. So my GS, oh mace and armor will have zerk stats and prob scholar runes. For WvW I was thinking about using GS/ mace/mace and swapping out my zerk jewelry with cavalier. Below is the link to what I plan on using for WvW:
Thoughts? Am I completely going off in the wrong direction with this?
Hey everyone,
I’m new to warrior (level 31 so far), and I am having a blast with it so far. Not going to lie, I made a warrior just for a norn female in a thong with tier 3 armor, and just happened to really like the class as I got into it.
I’ve had a fair bit of experience in dungeons where I play a full zerk mesmer and a tankyish ele. I’ve seen some zerk warriors who totally own in dungeons and having them present made a VERY noticeable difference in how fast bosses went down. On the other hand I’ve seen zerk warriors where we spent the whole dungeon picking them up off the floor.
I was just curious, those of you who do run full zerk what do you do to stay alive? Is it just a matter of simply dodging appropriately? Is there a particular heal that is better than others, utilities that help you stay alive? As a mesmer I can run full zerk because there are tricks to stay alive such as blurred frenzy, invulnerability, etc. Since I’m new to a warrior I’d like to get some ideas how you make zerk work for you in dungeons.
…aaaaand is it viable in WvW, or does that require a different spec?
Thanks for the pro tips in advance!
Ok, new question. You don’t appear to be wearing TA armor. Did you get your armor set fully from TA and then transmute it to something else +put in new runes?
I’m wearing Whispers armor with TA stats and runes of the mesmer, but I transmuted it like a year ago lol and it’s not from me being hit. Also, it’s not a problem with the rune of perplexity, cause i don’t have those yet.
It might be that. We have a mesmer in our guild who transmuted/re-runed the CoE gear a loooooong time ago, and she still summons a golem every so often. It’s totally random.
Well I mainly use S/F when I’m in dungeons. I only switch to GS when range is needed or to start off a fight with the berserker and to get some might up with sword 2. After reading pyroatheist’s posts, I think the staff might actually be a good supplement to the phantasm build with the Warlock. Plus, it will probably offer more support with winds of chaos, chaos storm, chaos armor, etc. I’m also a heavy staff user in WvW where I play a shatter variant with 0/20/20/0/30, so that’s why I wanted to go with bifrost.
I was thinking about switching to shatter build, but I really do love playing with a focus in dungsons, and there isn’t room for 20 pts in inspiration with a shatter build.
Anyway, thanks so much for offering your thoughts. It really helped.
Nice. I dont’ think condition up time will be too bad. Usually grouped with warrior, condi ranger, guardian, and ele. Thanks for the advice.
Think I should keep my spec the same then and not worry about the extra bounce with illusionary elasticity?
Hey everyone. Currently I’m running 10/20/0/30/10 phantasm build with full zerk, GS/Sw/F. My goal is to do DPS while offering support in PvE with glamours and reflective focus trait.
I’m working towards getting bifrost and I want to switch out my GS with Staff, but I’m worried that my range dps will take a hit. So I’m thinking of going 10/20/0/20/20 to keep reflective focus trait and to pick up illusionary elasticity. My illusions will take a 15% dmg loss but my staff will get an extra bounce on hits…doubling it’s dmg.
I know staff applies conditions, but if I switch to staff would it be ok to keep full zerk or should I switch to something else to optimize my dps with new weapon/traits? I’m assuming power/prec/crit dmg applies to conditions too? Just seeing if I can make this work without getting a second set of gear.
Make interrupts more rewarding!
There is absolutely no reason to go for interrupts at the moment, simply because everything you get from interrupt traits, there’s a better one instead. Damage on interrupt? Why take a risky trait that may not cause any damage at all when you have +20% more damage on MW or 15% more damage for Phantasms (or others). These are reliably sources of damage that don’t suffer from the 2 issues mentioned above. Why gain might on interrupt when you have might on shatter and can go full pew pew.
All these interrupt traits HAVE to be significantly stronger than their counterparts, due to the huge risk of doing nothing at all.I think interrupts are pretty rewarding with Bountiful Interruption. I regularly get 25 stacks might with this trait and can distribute it with Signet of Inspiration to the whole group. With boon duration runes and the Signet of Midnight I get a whole lot of 80% boon duration which makes those might stacks last 18 seconds.
So the reward for me for interrupting is that I provide 18 seconds of 25 might stacks to the whole group pretty often. Not counting the other boons I can distribute with the Signet of Inspiration.
I’ve never used bountiful interruption before. How are you getting 25 stacks of might? Is it one stack of might/interrupt or more?
Why was Magnetic Grasp even on their radar? It didn’t even work half the kittening time you used it.
Wave, not Grasp, the patch notes state Magnetic WAVE! That is a #4 skill on the focus, which is by far, the least used Ele weapon, yet as we may see from reactions of some people, it is clearly enough to rage quit over it…. funny
Oops totally misread that…my bad! But I guess the same question remains but different reason behind it. Why was THAT on their radar? Were people getting owned by Focus Eles left and right?
(edited by Mek.2947)
I just hate that our focus swiftness doesn’t stack with any other swiftness. I guess there was a bug a while back where people could run circles through temporal curtain to get a huge amount of swiftness stacks. So, Anet’s fix was to make it not stack at all. Really sucks if you put your temporal curtain down too soon and you still have like a .5 sec left on your centaur speed buff. I don’t know why they can’t just program it to grant one buff of swiftness, and still allow it to stack with other swiftness buffs…..you know…like the way guardians work….
Why was Magnetic Grasp even on their radar? It didn’t even work half the kittening time you used it.
disregard haha reading comprehension fail

EA is not just used for the water heal. People also use it as a blast finisher for earth and also aoe fire puts out nice direct damage. The only weak one is the air where you have to dodge into the target to blind.
EA heal is huge to survivability. People either need it OR the 15 water trait for extra heals. If they nerf EA heal to a chill effect (it would be a complete nerf) then everyone would just spec 15 water as the new mandatory trait. That would make already crappy build diversity worse.
They need to buff our terrible traits, not nerf our only useful ones.
Umm focus pull is actually pretty amazing in PvE with a Mesmer. You can place the curtain properly in front of the mobs so that it pulls them to the line instead of past the line in different directions. This pulls the mobs together so that everyone can cleave….and the Mesmer can do this without aggroing the mobs.
Honestly they offer two different utilities to a party. It’s like saying who’s more important to a business, an HR professional or the accountant.
I would love to see these self-proclaimed “I find eles easy” put out some videos of their amazing skill – especially the ones poo pooing daphoenix.
Anyone who said they copy pasted the D/D rotation and face rolled people with it, are either lying, were against someone who was AFK, fighting someone who was distracted by another player, or someone who just picked up the game less than a month ago.
You make it out like enemy players are just NPCs that just stand there and let you execute an entire rotation on them. It’s not that hard to hear/see the big ball of light going BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZSHT towards you to figure out, “hmm now might be a good time to dodge”.
Nice troll thread though.
Maybe it’s perspective. I certainly wanted to play my ele because I like the fact that it is a class that relies on synergy on multiple ability combinations rather than hitting 2,2,2,2,2,2,2 stealth, 2,2,2,2,2 like a thief. Definitely not bored playing an ele. Just get frustrated with the little reward you get from playing it well.
I really think you are just a terrible player which explains why you even mention HS spam and it also explains why you get little reward. Because you don’t play it well. Also I’ve noticed that a lot of elementalists (not all but a nice chunk) seem to think in their minds that they are superior to all other players because they have to click more buttons. Kinda funny really.
Wow you really assumed a lot in order to make the point of being a troll. I’m sorry you didn’t have anything to contribute to the conversation.
I would be happy if cleaning fire were a blast finisher.
People complain because they truly do like the class and want to play it, but for whatever reason any time we have a fighting chance we get nerfed when three other classes can do the same thing. Somehow it’s OP when we do it but not for them.
You used to always hear about what a complex class we were, and if played well and if all abilities were utilized then you could really pull off some amazing stuff. Well people DID learn the class, DID play well, and the the other 2 button classes got their panties in a twist, so we got nerfed while other classes kept their insane burst and survivability. But woe to the ele that steps up and says anything about these other classes. They will be struck down and told L2P even though those very classes couldn’t do the same for themselves back during our hey day.
Like others said, if you’re so confused about why eles complain, read the threads.
I don’t even play my thief because I can literally slap my kitten all over the keyboard and still kill most people.
I almost never die to a thief in wvw. I noticed a lot of thieves haven’t taken the time to know their class very well, and are very easy to counter.
My absolute favorite are d/d basilisk venom thieves. I will see them pop their BV, so ill go ahead and pop mine as well. It usually boils down to who will steal first right? So i look at my steal bar (or if you aren’t a thief any 900 range skill will work), and as soon as the out of range indicator disappears i dodge forward. The thief will almost always steal to me with a precasted cloak and dagger and you have not only wasted their BV, but also up to half of their initiative
. Its super easy to do and will throw off a surprising number of thieves.
Doubtful. I’d love to see vids of your ele owning thieves.
Hint: Fluffy little ambient creatures are placed all throughout the map… Planning RtL around them can seriously increase your mobility by halving the cd. If you really really want the old cd, spec Aeromancer’s Alacrity. The capacity of most non-sPVP elementalists to complain without ever playing with non-standard builds astounds me.
Oh cool….I never realized those fluffy creatures could be positioned in the direction you need to go, were easy to target, and easy to find while getting your teeth kicked in. Thank you so much for clearing this up for us. IT NEVER CROSSED OUR MINDS!!
And the whole time you’re doing this, the other classes don’t have any cooldowns of their own to catch up with you right?
And I never said I don’t do all of the above. I’m saying that I do…and it still doesn’t work because for like the umpteenth time….I have 40 second cooldowns when the class chasing me has less than 20. I’m not saying it’s a 100% all the time thing. I’m just saying that it is a marked difference between playing my ele and playing other classes. You’re making it out like I believe I should be able to just use the arrow keys on the keyboard to escape. Contrary to your assumptions about me, I’m not a kittened monkey, and I know what the ele’s abilities are. My point again and again is that if another class is still bent on catching up to you they WILL , and it doesn’t take that long until every trick you have is on a cooldown.
I don’t know why it spawned such a bug up your kitten that I compared my experience with multiple classes. I know the tricks of the elementalist, and so far my ability to disengage and get to where I want to go is much more miserable then when I’m playing other classes in WvW. I doubt you’re as leet as you think you are, and that you get away as much as you say, but clearly you’re convinced that you are, so whatever….
. Its super easy to do and will throw off a surprising number of thieves.
